Located in historic Gastown between Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley, built in the 19th century on the site of Vancouver's first jail and originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past. Set in a refurbished brick and beam building combining classic French tile work with industrial fixtures and natural wood, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge, elevated dining room and a plush, light soaked atrium as well as private dining rooms. Chef/Owner Lee Cooper is dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating & drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting. Service is expertly orchestrated to be unpretentious yet refined. The French-influenced West Coast fare is paired with the eclectic wine program and the bar team's innovative cocktail list to offer a truly unique dining experience.

Staff very attentive yet discreet. Floor lead manager extremely professional and knowledgeable about wine selections.
Food was well presented and timely. Could become a regular spot for Friday/Saturday dining.
We felt special.

What an amazing meal! From the moment we walked in to when we left, the staff was fantastic. Our somm, Andrew, was so incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The food was off the charts delicious - the duck was a perfect blend of all-spice, red peppercorn and acid with the vinegar reduction - a must try on their Sichuan riff. Our server, Heather, was so much fun and made our evening “Empty Glass, Empty Soul” 😂😂😂

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of both the meals and service. To us they go hand in hand and although the price point is high, we feel that the quality for both exceeded our expectations.
We will definitely return, for future special occasions.

My girlfriend and I decided to celebrate our 2 year anniversary with a nice dinner. The food was great and the drinks were good too. My major problem was that right beside our table there was mouse droppings!! And when I told the manager she tried to make an excuse that it’s an old building. Didn’t offer anything to us or even thank me for telling her. Very poor customer service on the managers part. I am very disappointed.

Visiting from La Quinta, CA. Recommended by a server at a fine French restaurant in Palm Springs, Le Vallauris. Had a lovely table on 2nd floor looking toward the lively action on the street. Mia, Melissa, and Christy were very pleasant, helpful and diligent as well as the rest of the servers. The foie gras was to die for. The quail was a bit salty and stuffed with sausage, not to my wife’s liking. She also enjoyed the seared foie gras. I had the beef tartare. Did not enjoy the shaved Brussel sprouts on top- thought they dried out the dish. My entree was veal sweetbreads which were delicious but the presentation of them sitting on a thick piece of toasted bread was uninviting. Did not eat the bread. A bit disappointing. Red wine from Languedoc great.

Excellent food and service. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

However, for a high-end restaurant to only offer French press coffee at the end of meal shows lack of knowledge of their clientele.

This restaurant needs to install a good Italian espresso machine!

Already made a reservation and bring the bday cake to celebrate with friend’s bday.

The bartender told me can’t have a cake coz allergy issue, the way to talk a little dry clean cut made me look stupid front of my friend’s face.

Then the manager (I guessed) nicely try to explain and we understand this is restaurant policy. Kept the cake to refrigerate until we finished the dinner.

The food and service was very good.

overall the foods were okay. Some hit and miss the sweetbread that we ordered was overcooked and the toast was tough. But the beef tartare was really good and inspiring. Love the presentation and service otherwise

Our third time to this restaurant within a year and it does not disappoint. Food, cocktails, wine, ambience are all what you would expect in a high class restaurant but without the stuffiness. Serving staff and sommelier are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. We will be back.

The food in general was ok, the bread was good, still hot when they served it. The duck was not bad, and the steak was ok, the Hamachi was bitter because of the Yuzu sauce. Overall not impressive. And the restaurant itself is very small and loud, no air conditioner, it’s like paying fine dining bill, but not in a fine dining environment.

After a Super day, a super night at a super restaurant. Food was delicious, Michelle our server was careful and sommelier recommended perfect wine to pair with our main courses. We’ll go gain for sure and bring friends with us!

There’s a reason why this restaurant is in the top 25 in Canada. Everything was perfect. The food, the drinks, the service it was all great. I would go back there on a regular basis if I lived in Vancouver.

Upscale and contemporary space for some fine dining. Food presentation was mastered to the finest degree. We had the lobster and duck and each bite was full of flavour. Highly recommend this place for foodies looking for something special

Good food overall, but portions are small and a little pricey for what you get. Very accommodating for kids and would highly recommend for a nice dinner out

One on my favourite Vancouver restaurants for a nice meal. I have been coming for years, and the food and service levels have remained high. Tasty, creative dishes. Visually beautiful too.

This restaurant is an example of consistency. Since my first visit when it opened and every visit to Vancouver since, the food has remained as innovative and fresh. From reinvented classics to the newly created, the care in ingredients selection and preparation is evident. The floor staff is exceedingly friendly and effective. Bit noisy, but nothing worse than any other restaurant. The back room, while feeling disconnected, is much quieter.
