Located in historic Gastown between Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley, built in the 19th century on the site of Vancouver's first jail and originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past. Set in a refurbished brick and beam building combining classic French tile work with industrial fixtures and natural wood, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge, elevated dining room and a plush, light soaked atrium as well as private dining rooms. Chef/Owner Lee Cooper is dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating & drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting. Service is expertly orchestrated to be unpretentious yet refined. The French-influenced West Coast fare is paired with the eclectic wine program and the bar team's innovative cocktail list to offer a truly unique dining experience.

    $80.00 per person

    Multiple dates available
    Experience L'Abattoir's Avant-Première three course menu featuring a choice of two starters, 3 main courses and 3 desserts. Reservations are only available before 6pm and are limited to 2 hours so that guests can enjoy an indulgent dinner before continuing on with their evening of entertainment, whether it be the theatre, a concert, a sporting event or other plans later in the evening. Visit labattoir.ca to view the current Avant-Première menu. No payment is required upon booking, the menu cost of $80 plus tax and gratuity which are due at the restaurant. We request a credit card number to confirm all reservations, a $50 charge per person will be applied in the case of a cancellation or “no-show” within 24 hours of the reservation.

    This was absolutely the best. We chose the chef menu, but didn’t do the wine paring (chose our own as we wanted) It was a nine course menu and each serving was better and better! Fun attentive staff gave birthday candles on the dessert to help us celebrate! Highly recommended!

    L’Abattoir is my favourite Vancouver restaurant. This was by far the best meal I’ve had in 2024. I found that the bread service in particular was exemplary. As well the portion sizes were fabulous. It was definitely worth the value I paid. I hope I will be able to come back again this year to try out more of the menu.

    Wow! Food presentation and tastes were amazing. Staff explained each dish very well. Highly recommend the baked oysters and the steak Diane. Halibut was also superb. Noise level was excessive (granted it was a Saturday night)

    We had to wait so long for our mains to come out… it is understandable if they give us a heads up or somewhat an apologetic way of saying it will take a lil longer but when asked, they just said because we ordered things that would take longer to cook (?) the mains will require longer cooking time and wont come out for at least another 15min (after what felt like forever wait after our appz… the food were alr sinking in by the time i asked for updates on the main). Appetizers were good but the mains were disappointing and the sauce seemed repetitive from one main to the other. Maybe worth trying once but I expect a lot better service and food at this type of restaurant:) Wine was good!

    Everything was fantastic. I will definitely be going back with my friends and future business associates. Beautifully presented food and delicious in flavor. The sommelier helped us choose our wine which went with each dish. Our friends from Chicago commented how non pretentious it was and that the food was so high end with fabulous presentation and flavor

    I want to premise by saying that quality and presentation/attention to detail of food was excellent; especially great were the bread, foie gras, and the lamb. However, the choice of desserts was very limited and there were not light options that go well with the dinner. My two very disappointing notes are the following: 1) the acoustic was terrible, and indeed it was so loud we could barely hear each other at the table; 2) even though waiting stuff was cordial, we waited about 45 minutes between appetisers and mains, which is absolutely unacceptable. We received somewhat of an apology and they offered a small glass of iceweine as well as the palate cleanser from the tasting menu, but that is not enough. If they don’t fix this, they will never earn a Michelin star. Would I go back? Given here in Vancouver there are better options (Saint Lawrence or Le Crocodile), I highly doubt it.

    My first experience at the French restaurant was truly delightful. The food was amazing and the ambiance had a really good vibe. Both my partner and I were thoroughly impressed.

    Wonderful meal. Highly recommended. Seafood dishes are all superb and especially the baked oysters app. but don't have too many.
