Located in historic Gastown between Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley, built in the 19th century on the site of Vancouver's first jail and originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past. Set in a refurbished brick and beam building combining classic French tile work with industrial fixtures and natural wood, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge, elevated dining room and a plush, light soaked atrium as well as private dining rooms. Chef/Owner Lee Cooper is dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating & drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting.     In celebration of our 13th anniversary, experience Chef Lee Cooper's three course menu featuring a selection of L'Abattoir favorites and 2010 throwback pricing from June 11th until October 18th. Guests can select a starter, main course, and dessert from our 2010 Prix Fixe menu with limited seating available before 6:00pm daily and must be reserved in advance. No payment is required upon booking, the menu cost of $75 plus tax and gratuity is due at the restaurant. We request a credit card number to confirm all reservations, a $50 charge per person will be applied in the case of a cancellation or “no-show” within 24 hours of the reservation.

    The food was great. Very inventive and lots of flavor. Service was outstanding. They even had a non-alcoholic Prosecco which was lovely. Unfortunately not many restaurants have a NA selection.

    I go every year or two. I am always delighted with my experience. but this past Sunday it was just extra phenomenal. Very well staffed, great food, lovely wine choices by the glass. An inpired mocktail for my dry husband. All of it, outstanding

    We ate from the A La Carte menu. The service is the best feature of this restaurant, friendly, informative and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good but not “best meal I’ve ever had” territory. My husband has the scallop and the lingcod. I had the duck terrine and the halibut. We shared a mille-feuille dessert which was not to my taste, but my husband ate it. We started with cocktails (large ice cubes!) and drank a recommended BC Chardonnay which was delicious. The restaurant is dark and quite noisy with the tables close together. After it started emptying out at 9pm, conversation became easier.

    Food and service was great, definitely recommend the Sablefish. It was pretty loud though, which took away from the intended romance of the evening as we could barely hear each other.

    The food is absolutely fabulous! The ambience, tables, and level of noise, however, are not a good venue for a high-end French restaurant. If you want intimacy and more quiet, I would not recommend this restaurant. Again, though, the food is incredible!

    Dear god in heaven, this place is unbelievable and a must dine in French restaurant in the heart of gas town Vancouver. Having dinned a few times here it was time to try the chefs tastings and wine parings. It was even better than we could have imaged and worth every moment and dollar spent. You have to try it for yourself.

    It has been awhile since I dined at l’Abattoir. I was bringing out of town guests. Everything was and more as I’d remembered and expected it to be. My out of town guests raved about the food, the ambience and the service. An evening full of wonderful memories. The staff is tops.

    One of the best wine pairing experience by Michelle the Somm! She clearly knows everything about the bottles. From history, winemaking, climate, to it’s flavour profile, Michelle is so passionate and keen on bringing customers into the wine world, which I am quite shocked by the quality and value of BC wines. Will certainly visit again!

    We had the most lovely experience here. The chef’s menu was so delicious (and not too much food that it was off putting). Special mention to the wine sommelier (a lady, whose name I didn’t catch) as the BC wine pairings were fabulous and really added to the meal. I would gladly go back and do the evening again tonight !

    This place was phenomal from start to finish. Everything was out of this world from the service to the food to the wine pairings. The only downfall is that I will forever be chasing this level of meal that was packed with innovation and intention. We were also incredibly pleased to learn that this is a nut-free kitchen making one of our diner's allergy concerns a non-issue. Treat yourself and do the chef's menu. The creativity and care that is put into each dish really shines and the wine was perfectly paired. Thank you sommelier! Thank you, thank you, thank you for an unforgettable experience.

    I enjoyed the Chef's dinner immensely. Absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the BC wine pairing for a taste of 'local' Canadian wines. Service was impeccable.

    The chef’s tasting menu was outstanding as was the service. The sommelier did an excellent job with the wine pairing and explanations. My wife and I found it a wonderful choice for our 56th anniversary dinner!

    I took a lovely lady to your restaurant recently and it was the best dining experience. From the food to the service to the ambiance and music, top shelf! The prices are a bit rich, but you get what you pay for. Its quite the dining experience

    The Chef's menu was one of the best dining experiences. Not a bad course to be had... but bring your appetite! Loved the staff-- friendly, informative, attractive. Open, airy vibe in the space. The only negative was a couple with a toddler and an infant, which seemed a little odd in a restaurant of this type... and the children became noisier as the evening went on.

    I have been Labattoir more than 15 time. It was fist time so disappointed with them. They must changed the chef or owner. The menu is totally different, I ordered all 6 entry and 4/6 main course. No one more tasting like before. Labattoir is not Labattoir any more. I will never go back again

    We made a reservation for a girls trip to Vancouver. Very convenient location, upscale, great options on the menu whether you want to do the tasting menu or a la carte. Service was friendly, but also left us alone to eat and converse. Prices were reasonable for a fine dining experience. Highly recommend!

    With all the outstanding chef tables and tasting menus in the city (Burdock and Co, Published etc) I was excited to try L'Abottoire after recent media coverage. I was quite disappointed in the menu, the small portions at the start (much of which was most likely pre-made) and heaviness of the over-all dinner. Nothing really stood out for me and my guests. And for the price being charged, not a tasty value at all.

    We have been here quite a few times. Last year we tried the Prix Fix menu and it was so good we decided to try it again this year. We were not disappointed and even liked it more if that is possible. The gazpacho was fantastic along. with all of the other courses. Splurge a little and give the prix fix a try. You will not be disappointed.

    Excellent service- 5 star. Our entrees we’re not what we expected. The ingredients were good but the fish had too much oil in the sauce and the gnocchi were dry. So, that’s was disappointing. The bread and custard were great!

    We ordered the chef's menu. Every dish made me feel the chef's intentions. The decorative art is also a visual treat, and the taste is amazing. In addition, the dessert part is my favorite mixed berry and sorbet . This birthday experience is really Very memorable.
