We were charged $2 for chips and salsa. All other Mexican restaurants it is free. No indication from wait staff that it was a charge. Also asked if we wanted avocado or guac with our veggie rice bowl. We said yes but not informed it was an additional $3 for each. These should be indicated to the customer.

My favorite was the Chile Relleno, which was fabulous before COVID. I love the sweetness of the crystallized fruit and spices. Since then it has been losing flavor and Wednesday it was unacceptable. There was no crystallized fruit, only a couple of raisins and part of a pecan. The meat was bland as if no spice was added. I complained to our waitress, who was apologetic and said she would talk to the manager. She brought our bill and told us she removed the charge for our desserts. I asked to speak to the manager, she agreed to send him over. Andrew obviously did not want to talk to us but came to our table. I told him that it appears the recipe for the Chile Relleno has been changed or is not being followed. He said it's the same recipe. The chef who makes it has been here a year. Other cooks have been here longer. He insisted that I was wrong and he stood there shrugging his shoulders with his arms crossed. I only wanted him to agree to look into the problem. He continued to say there was no problem.

My family and I have been coming to Las Palomas for nearly 20 years and, over the last couple of years, while the food remains consistent, the staff is not what it used to be and the entire restaurant is SO incredibly loud, unless you are sitting right next to someone at the table (not across from, but immediately next to) it is nearly impossible to have a conversation. The adults are loud, the children are loud and totally uncontrollable (and the staff does address it). I know it is a neighborhood restaurant, that is one of the things I love about it, but that doesn't mean folks cannot be respectful of the guests around them. Perhaps Las Palomas needs to invest in sound buffering, but I know from my many years of coming for dinner, something has changed and the restaurant used to be MUCH quieter and therefore much more enjoyable. Not sure I am going to come back, unfortunately.

Ryan, our waiter, is a true professional! He always gets our order right, and after 5 years of visits with dairy restrictions, that is amazing. I ordered shrimp Al Limon. Love this dish. Others had chicken enchiladas Verde and salmon dishes. Everyone was happy with their meal. We all had the mini margaritas which were also very good. We didn't know until later it was National Margarita Day.

Las Palomas has been for 40 years and continues to be our favorite Mexican food restaurant. The welcoming personality of the owner permeates throughout the staff, many of whom we have known for years. And, oh yeah, the food is great. Personally, I cannot get enough of their mole, caldo soup or fresh & tasty chips and salsa.

Great early dinner on a Saturday night. The Las Palomas margaritas are the real thing - good tequila, no agave syrup, and fresh lime. Warm fresh chips and delicious salsa. Las Palomas Combo plate - sumptuous. It was really busy and the service was slow but very pleasant and we didn’t mind because we could enjoy the live music and have another margarita. So lucky to have this gem in the neighborhood.

Our favorite genuine central Mexico resturant in Austin. We have been going weekly for nearly 17 years when ever we were in town. Best chips & salsa I. Town. Good guacamole. Margaritas are very good and there are many menu items which are excellent otherwise we would not be the regulars we are. Staff is friendly and willing with recommendations. The live music options on Thursday - Saturday evenings are a plus.

So disappointed with the food. Tortillas aren't made from scratch (but tacos cost $20 for 2). The beef was flavorless. The white rice was pointless. The beans were bland. It was $90 for 2 adults, 1 kid and no alcohol. Taco Bell would have been more satisfying.
