Two of us had the striploin. We compared notes at the end of the meal and agreed it was the toughest piece of meat we had ever eaten. At $39, it was extremely disappointing. One had liver and said it was good. One had duck confit and said it was fine. Atmosphere was good, waiter please try and not intrusive. But strip loin was really disappointing.
Pure amazing. Would recommend. Probably the best food I've had in a long time.
A bit cold.... The doors always open and you can feel the cold
It took 1.5 hours to see any of the food. No complementary food was offered. A waiter never offered any help or suggestions to the menu. It was my first time there and I'm not coming back. Cheers.
The overall lunch experience was okay....the other people had a burger and two Reuben sandwiches and they were pleased with their meal. I, on the other hand, ordered the beet salad and was not impressed at all. The beets were tough and the choice of greens was poor. I order beet salads a lot at other places and am always happy with my choice. I could not believe that was a $14.00 salad!!!
We really enjoyed dining at Le Chien Noir. The atmosphere was cozy, the food was fantastic and our server (Josh) was excellent. Thanks!
Great service! Great food!! A favourite place!!!!
The food and drinks were presented well and tasted very good.
Nice that they have a children’s menu. Always great food and service.
As usual great!
It was far too expensive for what it was. Two guests, two soups and sandwiches, two desserts, and two pops $57.00. The soup was leek and potato and had a chicken broth base, but it was full of safe. So poultry seasoning or herbs de provence was probably used. It gave the soup a vile flavour. Unfortunately you either like sage or you don't. It nearly ruined my lunch. The tiny little piece of cheese cake for $11.00 was also way over priced. The chicken salad sandwich had a nice flavour. The staff was lovely.
Another great meal!
Always have great service and food when we go. Have not been disappointed yet.
Service and food was excellent. Had not been there in a while but we will be back soon! Well worth a visit. Thanks for a great and relaxing time.
Family day dinner was delicious.
Our server was attentive and helpful. The special of scallops and cauliflower risotto was delicious, although I felt it was over-priced for two scallops. The salad de Maison was large and flavourful. The lemon meringue tart was a great dessert choice. The lemon was a bit runny but still very good.
Fabulous food as always. Love the duck poutine - the mushroom bourignon was not as good as I thought it might be.
Our visit was great I didn't get a window table but once we were seated it wasn't all that important the service, food ambiance and energy of La Chien was perfect!
Food was fantastic! Service was great. The only complaint we had was that we didn’t get our dessert but still got charged for it. Otherwise, it was excellent.
Lived in Kingston my whole life and this was my first time at Chien Noir. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, and in my opinion very reasonably priced for the quality. Will definitely go again!
The food was very good. As was the quality and service. However, there were very few vegetarian options, and only one pseudo veg option for main course (tuna nicoise) so my choices were limited.
Loved the food! My only problem was what to choose! But by far my favourite dish offered is the beef tartare so please never get rid of it! We sat at the back near the kitchen which was nice and enjoying to watch the chefs at work. 10/10 will be back
My wife and I enjoyed the striploin steaks; very generous portions. The black bean soup was hearty, with a touch of heat to complement the stock. The gentleman that was our server was prompt and courteous. Overall, we would recommend this restaurant to our friends and family.
Was excited to visit for the first time for the Febulicious special, as this place has been on my "must go" list of restaurants for a while. But was very disappointed with the food will not be going back! My boyfriend ordered the french onion soup, the lamb, and the creme brûlée. I got the french onion soup, mushroom bourguignon and the flourless chocolate torte. We were expecting to love the food and also ordered a bottle of wine. The restaurant was gorgeous and our server was great and attentive. The soups were good, and the desserts were okay, but our mains were TERRIBLE! They came cold, first of all, and the lamb was not seasoned at all and did not taste like anything except straight up meat-- the little bit of gnocchi it came with was the only thing my boyfriend ended up eating. The mushroom bourguignon was the worst meal I've ever had at a nice restaurant-- weird textures, flavours that did not go together, rock-hard "chips" mixed in, etc. We literally pushed our food around on our plate, nibbled a little, and gave up on it, not even getting to-go boxes-- and we were hungry coming in! The best thing I ate all night was the bread with the house butter. Later, I had terrible stomach pains as well and I'm not sure if it was related to the food or not but I suspect it was. Everything I've heard about the restaurant was so positive and the reviews are all so great that I was truly shocked and disappointed. For spending $130 on a celebratory dinner for two, I was embarrassed to have picked a place with food we hated so much. Would've been better off going any one of the dozens of cheaper restaurants in Kingston. Maybe this is an experience unique to their Febulicious menu, but beware!
We have always enjoyed Le Chien Noir. On a Tuesday night in February, noise was tolerable as it was not busy. The food was very good and our waiter was very friendly, but we were puzzled that the service was so slow. A 3-course meal took 2 hours. That was OK while catching up with a friend, but the bench seats did become uncomfortable and the gaps between courses were disappointing.
We are locals and Chien Noir is a favourite spot to relax over reliably good food and wine. This time, one of us had the duck confit and one the flatiron steak. Both were excellent.
Our dinner for 2 was excellent -- we had the mussels and the seafood special of the day and were impressed with the food quality, service, ambiance and overall experience. We will return!
My husband and I always go here it’s our very favourite restaurant!!! Unfortunately our last visit our waiter came over and told us right off the hop that there was another booking coming in a hour and a half so we had to be quick...sorta left a bad vibe through our dinner. But the food was still amazing!
Took our niece (who is attending Queens) out for lunch...my husband and she had some soup to start - it came out quickly and was well received. Our mains however, took forever!! Frustrating when the resto wasn't that busy. When they finally arrived...my Beet & Black Bean Burger (on a Vegan bun) was out of this world! and the sandwiches (Ruben & Roast Beef) looked fantastic as well! Thank you for an enjoyable lunch - other than the hiccup of timing - it was a great experience! When we visit Kingston again - we'll be back!!
We enjoyed a wonderful meal with outstanding service.
We had a lovely meal for our 32 wedding anniversary. The service was excellent, the food delicious and the environment cosy. It seemed a little loud for quiet conversation but not distractingly so. Overall, a lovely evening out
Great food... great service... had a great time
Always a great place for date night! wait staff is superb! Food is delicious and well presented! Great atmosphere for romance!
Loved the experience
This is one of my favourite restaurants. When I visit my family in Kingston we always try to have a night to enjoy the delicious food. The charcuterie and oysters are always fresh but my go to is the tuna tartare! It’s also a great spot for picky eaters, they can experience a delicious meal while the foodie in the family also enjoys their meal.
my chicken was greasy & under cooked, my husbands steak was cold. felt sick all night and the next day. attached is a photo of my chicken & my takeout container after being in the refrigerated greasy :( went right in the garbage
New Year’s Eve. Special menu, not too crowded..just what we wanted! Our server, Taylor was great, always good service at chien noir. Wish they had a bigger oyster selection (but it’s winter, what can you do)still, overall a good experience. As usual!
The food was very good and the presentation was incredible!
Lovely to find good quality French fare so close by. My husband and I just returned from a trip to Paris a few weeks ago and we found the food comparable to the real deal!
Fantastic place to grab a bite knowledgeable and personable staff
