We got to our 8:00 reservation around 7:55 and waited until 8:15 to be seated.
The service was normal, nothing spectacular but nothing horrible.
The food was phenomenal.
We would definitely go again.
We were a party of 3 and we all enjoyed our meals very much. Especially enjoefinding things not always seen on a menu - cassoulet was outstanding. Great service and advice from Josh, he was attentive without hovering.
The food was outstanding! Niçoise Salad was perfectly interpreted. A taste of the Mediterranean, right here in Kingston. The service was attentive without being intrusive. It was a lovely lunch!
I have been dining at the Le Chien Noir for many decades. I appreciate the incremental changes made over the years.
See note to restaurant. There is very little more to say, I hope that’s enough “characters” for you.
Simply awesome. Great food and atmosphere. Revcomend 100%
Very nice date at Chien noir
We had an amazing brunch.
food was superrrr charred. too pricy for quality. would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want to give away money to a bunch of scammers trying to sell you crap in the name of French experience.
Very nice space, and authentic tastes. Expensive but nice for a special occasion
Excellent food and service!
We had a great experience with yummy dinner and drinks before our event. Our server was excellent with a great sense of humour. I love this restaurant with its lovely atmosphere and I’m always pleased with the food and service. I highly recommend it!
Reservation online, fine. However, no possibility to choose seating, not good.
I had tuna tartar ...delicious..a beer and a few oysters...everything was excellent the oysters were fresh although a bit small , maybe the variety I picked..my wife had the flatiron steak it was perfection and delicious..a bit pricey but a great night out for a treat.
Disappointed with meals. Were fair but not fabulous.
The tables at the front are pretty tiny and a bit too close together. The food is delicious!..I had the mussels..broth was a meal in itself! The creme brulee is unctuous.
Great place for a date!
Great food and service. If you are in Kingston and want to get together for dinner with friends, this is just a place to be!
The menu has changed a lot since my last visit, and I enjoyed the updated god and format. The restaurant has an accessible entrance, but the washrooms are down 12 steps or so, which is unfortunate. Food very good, with the tuna tartare being exceptional. Service excellent.
Excellent food and ambiance. Very attentive staff. Main dish could have been a bit warmer. Lively and fun.
Chein Noir is the jewel in the Black Dog crown along side Atomica and Harpers. All three places do what they do well. Above average quality, with appropriate pricing. Not expensive but there is no case for exceptional value either. Consistently a good meal and that is really what you want. Much better than any of the chain kitchens like Keg, Milestones, Jack Astor's etc...
A good meal, food cooked excellent. Service was not good. We waited a long time for our dirty dishes to be cleared (probably 10 to 15 minutes after we’d both finished). Very slow for drink refills (only had our water refilled once at the beginning). Our server seemed more interested in chatting with his co-workers at the bar.
We had a lovely dinner at le Chien Noir. The menu is varied with small and large plates. Food was really good.
Food was great as always - service subpar. We felt hurried and rushed towards the end of dinner when our server brought the bill over without asking us. We had a late reservation (9pm) and we were finished by 10:15pm. We felt hurried by the staff to vacate while our bill amounted to almost $300 before tip. She was also not very knowdagle with the charcuterie selections or wine list. Sad that the food was accompanied with such poor service.
Our favorite Thursday night dinner place (although any other night is just as good:)). Tim and his staff - Dorry, Josh, Andrew and all the rest are welcoming and lots of fun. We love it!
Our first visit to this restaurant and will definitely be back. Great food and fantastic service!
Limited menu options, meat heavy. Wish there were more vegetable options.
We enjoyed the tasty food and the great service. The presentation of the food was very good. We were fortunate enough to sit in the heated back patio where the noise level was not loud.
One of our party enjoyed her food. One person’s expectations of the meal were not met. My meal was below average.
Snobbish service and for what??? food is overrated, the server has barely manner and feel impatient. we have let 15% of tips by habits but really he deceives a full 2%. we have bought the 2 x 50$ gift certificat and it was the second that we use. First time was not better.
Great atmosphere and great food! And the frites are to die for.
Fourth time at this restaurant- never had a bad meal there. So flavourful...... love the lemon butter and the beet burger.
Food has not been as good the last couple of times we have dined at chien noir. This occasion was Sunday lunch and I thought the menu lacked variety. While my meal was good, it was pricy for what it was. My husband noted his frites had been oveesalted and our dining companion was quite disappointed noted her omelette of the day was uninspiring. There was very little in the way of gluten free or no egg options on the menu.
Have been to Le Chien Noir many times over the years and it does not disappoint. Been there for business, birthdays, occasions and casual dining. Last Sunday was with a dear friend. We were there for over two hours and were served well--attentive without hovering. Just had fun.
It was a long awaited date night for my husband and I. We were seated next to a large group of ladies that were very loud, to the point that we could not hear each other. There were other tables readily available and we had to endure this. They were only about 2 feet away which made us feel like we were eating with them. The water that we were served was warm, the fountain pop was flat and I was made to feel like I was being fussy when I wouldn’t accept the flat pop the second time. Our $29 steak dinner was nothing to write home about. It was a steak, nothing else. Although the peppercorn jus was absolutely delicious. Not $29 worth but very good. I won’t be back. Date nights are too important to waste on noisy tables that are way too close, and a mediocre meal. I will say the service was outstanding!
Food was bland, chicken overcooked, too much money for what we got. Small table meant I was sitting almost on a strangers lap. Won't be back.
Le Cien Noir is my absolute favourite restaurant in the City of Kingston. Amazing food, service and atmosphere!
The jazz night at Musukii in the adjacent patio was rather overwhelming which meant that onversation was a challenge. The food was good, but I felt it was terribly overpriced for supper. The service was excellent.
Chien Noir is a gem. Best restaurant between Toronto and Ottawa.
Our server was outstanding! He made helpful and honest suggestions and recommendations. We asked to share a salad and this did not pose any problems. The steak was excellent, but the frites were lukewarm. As well, the halibut was excellent, but the accompaniments were not hot.
