Little Grouse on the Prairie
From the moment we entered the restaurant, until we left, we felt special! The food was fantastic. The staff was very friendly. Any questions about the menu were answered pleasantly and with knowledge. It was a great Anniversary memory.
Excellent service, food, and atmosphere
The meal was tasty. The crab was not appealing and oozed something when picked up. The asparagus salad for $16 was 2 bites. The pastas were delicious but overpriced. The restaurant is small and you uncomfortably jammed in.
Food and service was amazing. Noise level was too loud.
We had the 6 course tasting menu and it was amazing. Top notch service. Only thing I might do differently next time is sit up at the counter to watch the chefs. We will be back for sure!
The food was excellent and the kitchen was very accommodating with food restrictions. Our server was terrific and provided great recommendations for wine pairing.
Cosy, homey, very personal service. Food was excellent, although some Italian ‘classics’ missing off the menu, but everything was prepared exquisitely, and the experience was great.
This dining experience was really great. From the greeting at the door to receiving our bill, everything was elegant. The staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and we were made to feel very comfortable. The space is small and intimate and yet very lively and fun. The decor, dishes and even the choice of napkins were perfect.
I was extremely impressed with this quaint gem. They staff were amazing and extremely knowledgeable about food and wine pairings. They did a great job explaining the menu since I do have some food allergies.
We decided to go with the Chef's Table and it was amazing. My favourite dish was the ricotta ravioli with the sage brown butter sauce and the stake Bavaglino. The spaghetti carbonara was so extremely flavourful but was not heavy or overpowering.
I will definately be back here. I have had the pleasure of dining in many parts of the world and this dining experience met and often exceeded dining at Michelin star restaurants in Paris. I was impressed by the quality of the food.
I loved the decor and enjoyed the open kitchen.
My only negative comment would be that this restaurant was not accessible from the street, which would be so easy to do as the store right next to it has a ramp. But once inside I was able to navigate to where I needed to go.
We had had not such a good last meal and called management they gave us a bit of credit so we decided we would give them a chance it was Amazing food service
Drink menu needs a pic up and it’s loud but everything else was great
I had hoped with the revamped menu Little Grouse would have turned things around. Firstly I must thank our server who was wonderful, caring, and helpful. We did the familia menu for the five of us. The starters and first past were excellent. The pasta carbonara had way too much cracked pepper, to the point that you could not taste the pork or pasta, as you were looking for water. The new wine list is great, and the choices were good and reasonable priced. The dessert was wonderful, a peanut butter chocolate in a "pot". Again the service was great, but the big downer was the pasta. Think I will wait until I return.
Love the Grouse!
We were very excited to try Little Grouse, as we are huge fans of the other restaurants in the restaurant group and love locally sourced food. While it is disappointing that the menu has changed significantly to mostly Italian fare, the food was quite good. The portions are small but rich. However, the service was less than impressive. Two of us are previous servers, and found the woman to be overly casual in her demeanor and bordering on unfriendly. She took offense when told the water was not very carbonated, and seemed very put off by a request from a vegetarian to add some lettuce and tomatoes to a cheese plate. As a restaurant that is in the pricey range, the kitchen should do everything they can to accommodate their guests, especially something as simple as adding some salad to make a meal. We also weren't fans of the tables facing the kitchen. I usually appreciate an open kitchen, but it was distracting watching the waitresses and kitchen staff talking casually (and could actually see our waitress talking to the other about us). The staff were eating (yes, putting food in their mouths as we were sitting there eating the food they had prepared). The decor of the restaurant is quite nice, but our table and another are open to a space that has a very makeshift bar (bottles on some shelves), and a cash register - giving the impression of a diner. We would absolutely not go back and would not recommend, especially given the numerous amazing restaurant this city has to offer.
Did the 6 course alla famigglia. Food was outstanding!
Went there to try the new menu and was a bit disappointed overall. The starters were great (burrata and carpaccio). The mains were only average, when in times past they have been great. Ravioli with brown butter was under seasoned and the pasta was a bit tough. The butter was not really browned but more just melted. The carbonara was fine, nothing amazing but not terrible. The asparagus risotto was very disappointing. It was really watered down and didn’t come together like a nice creamy risotto. Usually they have some of the best risotto I’ve tried but this time was not good. It was average, but for the price we expect better than average
Amazing! Everything was perfect.
Love your new menu; quality of food was superb! Wish your cocktail menu and wine list were both a little more extensive. Feel like you should be able to get a cappuccino in an Italian restaurant.
Unfortunately the table we were assigned for our reservation was very small with little leg room and adjectent the entry way. My husband is 6’3” and I am 5’8” tall. This made the experience challenging to enjoy, otherwise the gods was delicious.
Best dining experience and food I've had in years, possibly ever. We had the 9 course famiglia sharing plates. One of the appetizers I wanted wasn't on the rotation that night, but our server had the chef substitute it in. The price is not conducive to regular dining, but it is well worth it for a special occasion. There is so much thought and artfulness injected into every element of the dining experience.
Small but cosy. Food was very good. Fish excellent. If you are just going to have a pasta dish you need to order some sort of salad/veggies before, as there is nothing on the dish except the pasta.
Absolutely great food and service!
This restaurant has changed, in a bad way, since Jesse left. The food was lacking. Kind of felt like we were rushed through super. Used to be a 2 hour experience with wonderful food. This time was mediocre food and done in 45 min. Really upsetting, it was our favorite restaurant in Saskatoon. Now we have to find a new one.
Horribly under stocked bar - no tequila, and very little help from server deciding other options. We decided on vodka, which was served in glasses still hot from the dishwasher.
Server was completely out of her depth. Wine was continuously late to the table. For what is being charged the service should be top notch.
Food was quite good but we won’t be back.
I feel bad giving a a negative review since I had high hopes for our dinner but overall it was very underwhelming. Maybe it was just an off night for The lil Grouse. The servers were pleasant but things seemed slow. The burrata was pretty good but at $19 I'd expect more out of it. I had the prawn risotto which sounded amazing but disappointed. Four small shrimp and a fairly bland risotto left me hungry. My colleague had the walleye which he said was decent. They warned us that the beer was pouring warm so we knew it wouldn't be ideal. It seemed like a great atmosphere but the chef appeared to be shorthanded on this evening so maybe that had something to do with the negative experience. I have had an opportunity to eat at some pretty good restaurants across Canada and I had hoped to add this to the list but unfortunately the meal just left us eating wings and cold beer at the pub behind them. :(
Best place for dinner in saskatoon by far, was very impress!!
Great foods and atmosphere. Small and cozy. Great Carbonara. Compared to our Italy trip!
Outstanding new menu! Jupiter Cotes du Rhône red wine was fruity, full bodied. The aged meatball & softshell crab appetizers were superb, the Walleye, Linguine & Spaghetti Carbonara excellent, but the best part of the meal was the raspberry sorbet limonatta, full of flavor, texture & color. Simply put, to die for!
We will be back!
We had great service but were annoyed that we were charged extra for every piece of bread that was brought to our table, when the appetizers were served with an inadequate amount of bread to begin with. We spent a lot of money here and it seemed petty that a couple slices of bread were not complimentary. The risotto was disappointing, as it was very bland. Pastas and appetizers were otherwise delicious!
Outstanding! Really enjoyed the food, ambiance, wine and overall dining experience. Would eat again there anytime!
Cozy atmosphere perhaps a bit too close with the other diners. Ordered the meatballs which had a very good tomato sauce. Also the mozza ball like soft cheese with the bread. It lacked flavour but nice texture and the grilled bread was good. The clam linguine was enjoyable and the flank steak was quite tender considering the cut. Would have liked more options for beer.
New chef, new menu. We ordered the 10 course Alla Famiglia tasting menu and every dish was delicious. Great food, great service!! We will be back!
First time in Saskatoon and was delighted by the dining experiences. Little Grouse was especially lovely - small open kitchen vibes, great service, and creative fresh Italian menu. Barrel aged negroni was also a hit.
Food and service was excellent! Expensive but delicious. The music was strange and way too loud.
It was a great experience and excellent service.
We did the 6 course meal, but the food was fancy but tasted very average.
Well I’m italy we say: Nella botte piccola c’è il vino buono; which means, in the small barrel there is the good wine. Small restaurant and delicious food.
I went last Tuesday with my girlfriend; we had two different starter and main dishes; all four were awesome!!
The intalian cuisine is really strong and well mixed with Canedian product as meat and lake fish! 10 out of 10 the score for this restaurant!
Went out for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend, our first visit for both of us. The barrel aged old fashioned was delicious! We started with aged beef meatballs which were incredible. Unfortunately, the burrata was out until next week and was one of the reasons I wanted to come here the most. The fresh pasta was beautifully done. Definitely would come back again! Our server was great and brought out a birthday dessert for me as well.
Food and service was excellent. Staff were very attentive and accommodating. Food, although expensive, was amazing and worth it. Next time I'll try the six course to get a larger taste of the different dishes. Really enjoyed the experience and will come again.
Delicious. Good service. We did the smaller famiglia and with a
Couple of drinks it was a bit pricey but well worth, it given the quality.
I chose Little Grouse for my birthday supper as I had wanted to try it for quite some time and was looking forward to having great Italian food. However I was very disappointed with my meal as were the other 4 members of my party. I had ordered the Beef Ragu with olives and capers, but what I got was not a Ragu at all but instead ground beef with a little bit of flavour, not a caper or olive to be seen. My husband had ordered the Risotto and it was flavorless and runny. We certainly didn’t feel we got the quality of food expected for the cost. I do have to commend the service as our server was excellent and the wines we ordered were wonderful. But because of the disappointment in the food we will not be returning.
