Little Grouse on the Prairie Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time dining at Little Grouse and it definitely won’t be our last time!! It is a little gem that for sure! The 2 waiters were both extremely knowledgeable and so very friendly - it was a real treat to see how passionate they were about everything on the menu. We had the salami sampler for an appetizer and then tried 2 different kinds of the pasta - although it was very hard to choose since they all sounded delicious. Our meal was fabulous to say the least! Loved it. Only downside was not having room for dessert - next time!! Thanks for the awesome meal!!
Fantastic! Alla Famiglia is the way to go and looking forward to the long version. Great service, great food, attentive service. This restaurant rates very, very high on our list of favourites!
I always try to get here when I’m in Saskatoon. Fantastic on all fronts! Sit at the bar and chat with Jesse about the food.
Food was excellent as usual. This is a place for special occasions, if big portions are your thing then don’t come here. Having said that it does seems to me that portion sizes have actually gotten smaller. Given the fact we dropped $600 for 4 (before tip) this can be a concern for some. Embrace the experience though, this is something special.
This is a small, quaint restaurant. The service was excellent. It did get quite loud as the evening progressed. The food was excellent but pricey. Portions are on the small side. A main course would not be enough for most...you need to add at least one or two appy or secondi dishes. In the end, the multi-course dinner would have been a better value for our group. Wine list had decent variety but again, pricey. A $100 bottle was seen in the liquor store for $16. That's an obscene mark up!!
I would definitely recommend it for foodies, and those who don't mind an expensive night out. It isn't rushed.
Second time at the little grouse. Did the tasting menu. It was excellent. I don't think you can ever leave this place hungry! Recommend this place to everyone.
Already recommended this place to others.
I really enjoyed the food, the right space of time between meals, the right amount of service without appearing overbearing.
We enjoyed our time very much and look forward to another night there!
Lots of talk but little food (portions). Hot food came cold. Deserts were tiny, bland and downright weird....anything but tasty. Save your $ for 3 outings a good restaurant for the price of a single outing here.
I recently visited Little Grouse with a friend who was visiting from Edmonton. I had heard amazing reviews about this restaurant and I wanted to show her the best of Saskatoon as she was only in for a short period of time. We were so happy with our choice! The ambiance was lovely, I hadn't expected such a tiny establishment but it only added to the experience. It was never too loud and we were able to carry on conversation with ease. We decided to go with the small Alla Famiglia and wine pairing. The food was phenomenal and the wine enhanced the flavours. We couldn't stop talking about the meal after we had left. It was such a nice evening out and I would recommend it to anybody looking for a special night out with loved ones.
Never going back. Main courses smaller than appetizers. Outrageously expensive.
Food was underwhelming at best. Plain. Little flavour. Wine recommendations were ok. Very loud!!
Overpriced, friendly knowledgeable staff, uncomfortable seating, noisy, food was good.
Awesome food. Noisy atmosphere
We had heard a lot of positive reviews about Little Grouse so were looking forward to our first visit. While the Alla Famiglia menu was interesting, and the wine pairings were quite well done, my overall impression of the food offerings both in terms of size and tastiness of portion, was less than spectacular, especially when the final bill for the AF, with wine pairings and tip without any additional drinks, was significantly north of 3 Cnotes. Having said that, the experience was still quite good, as the service was phenomenal!
the service was congenial, friendly and professional. We were recognized as past customers. The food was awesome!! It is always a treat to eat at Little Grouse when we are in Saskatoon.
The lovely atmosphere, great service and good wine weren't enough to make up for the teenie sample sized bites which were fine... some were even tasty - but waaayyy overpriced for tummy teasers. We left hungry after our table of 4 shared 5 appies and ate a full meal each. Oh- and dessert too.... SO little food and SO much money.... don't bother.
Ambience was perfect and the music was quiet background noise and did not feel we had to yell over it. Server was absolutely fabulous, exceptionally personable and educated with the menu/dishes. The food was by far the best we have had yet in Saskatoon!!!! Absolute gem and the best celebration/date night we've had.
I had fun trying new food combinations. Atmosphere was nice but a little to close to other guests which didn't give to much room for privacy
Dinner at Little Grouse is always a unique experience. Each dish has its own twist to set it apart from the ordinary. And the service is always impeccable.
We had an excellent meal with great service. We tried the 10 course tasting menu. I enjoyed it, but my partner felt it was too long. If trying the tasting menu, make sure you are ready to spend 2 hours eating. Next time we will order from the menu.
Many people are crazy for this place but I wasn't overly impressed. Expensive and inconsistent experience. Was disappointed in the small portion sizes. I would not return, but please read other reviews on this restaurant as I'm fairly sure my opinion doesn't reflect the average experience.
The tasting menu was mediocre and too small in proportion for 70 bulks per person.
We found it to be quite loud, it was difficult to have a conversation. It could also use some upgraded seating (cushioning on chairs) as most people are there for at least 2 hours. Those chairs get hard! My husband's back was quite sore.
The food was amazing, highly recommend the "alla famiglia" option!!
I'm also not sure how you would fit a larger group in there? My husband works for the University and they are always looking for venues for taking visiting profs or potential new hires out for meals during the interview process. This would mean a group of at least 8 to 10 people.
Amazing experience. Food was unbelievable. Very accommodating to our special menu requests. Great wine pairings!
Excellent, great food, wine and service, as usual.
Little Grouse lived up to the expectation of one of Saskatoon's best restaurants. Will definitely be coming back. Be ready to spend money.
Although some of the dishes were very tasty the portions were small. The scallops were sliced across to make it look like there was more there but it was really only 2 scallops for $19 I think. $100 wine. $150 for food plus tip and we left starving and went for more food elsewhere
Too bad. I love to support local restaurants but this one was just too over priced for what you got
A culinary gem in Saskatoon! We never leave disappointed :-)
I'm no stranger to fine dining after 10 years in the San Francisco area so I'm not expecting giant portions. However, the prices here are double what you would expect for the portions. Very, very small portions for the price. $15 for 6 pieces of 2" asparagus with a quail egg! Really? Food is decent but they need to increase portion size or decrease the price.
Great place with terrific service from all the staff! Sommeliers had great knowledge of the wine list and the wine pairing with the alla famiglia menu was delicious! You must try their amaretto - truly extraordinary!
My husband and I have been wanting to try a meal at Little Grouse. We had the 10 course Alla Famiglia with wine pairings. The meal was absolutely delicious! We had a wonderful time! Thank you for a great night!
I've been here twice and both time I let the chef decide what I should eat and drink. Turned out to be a great choice both times. Food was excellent. Wine pairings were perfect. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Great experience.
We had a wonderful meal, the four of us ordered the Alla Famiglia with wine pairings. Every course was excellent and although each was small, overall there was plenty of food. Both the waiter and the somm were attentive and friendly. The only caution is the price - this is not an inexpensive restaurant!
Terrific meal with excellent service. We got the Alla Famiglia dinner which was a 6 course meal with wine pairings. Scallops appetizer and beef entree were our favorites.
Seemed a little rushed as there was very little time between courses. We were in and out of the restaurant in an hour and a half.
We will be back to try other items on the menu.
The entire experience was exceptional. First visit for my friends return visit for me
This is Saskatoon's version of Mario Batali's amazing Babbo in NYC. I love it so so much. Thanks for bringing quality big city taste and experience to YXE. ❤️
Interesting tasting menu sharing format, and very flexible as to suggestions of what we'd like to include. This is kind of rare to find and we really appreciated it.
Food and service was good. We opted for the tasting menu ( Alla Familia ) which provided us with 7 different sampler dishes to share. Portion sizes were smaller than some of the other unique dining locations we have visited in Saskatoon and in other places ( i.e. Gordon Ramsay Steak Las Vegas ) The tasting menu was to the chef's discretion, so it was difficult to know what was coming. Although the staff asked us if we had any allergies, we would have opted not to have the NZ lamb or the beef tartare, as my wife doesn't care for either of these options. So I partly blame myself for not mentioning this, but had we known, we would have opted out of these choices. The ravioli was very good...probably the best item we tried. All in all, it was a good experience, but value for your money can be had elsewhere. No disrespect to the waitstaff or the food, but I guess I expected more.
World class food in a comfortable setting that
transports you to Tuscany!!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Little Grouse on the Prairie. It will definitely be our go to place for all special occasions from now on. Great good, ambience and exceptional service.
