Little Grouse on the Prairie Ratings and Reviews
Little Grouse on the Prairie was one of the best culinary experiences I have had in Saskatchewan. The attention to detail on every plate, the phenomenal knowledge of the servers (I believe the bar tender and one of the servers were both Sommeliers?!), wonderful service from every server, and the flavours....astounding. It was worth every penny and made the night magical!
Most amazing food I’ve ever eaten ! Recommend to everyone! The service was on point and each dish brought its own uniqueness to the table . The chefs should be very proud of what they serve ! Can’t wait to go back and try the rest of there menu !
The atmosphere was great, the food was amazing. The serving staff and kitchen staff we very engaged throughout the entire meal. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends and will be back again for sure.
Excellent meal - had the alla familia with the wine pairing. The pairing was outstanding! The only dish that I felt could have been better was the risotto - it was a little watery and lacking flavor. Every other dish was outstanding. The veal chops were tender and delicious! I would definitely come back again with friends! Great atmosphere and super friendly and informative staff!
The chef choices were outstanding and the service was impeccable. Everything we tasted was delicious and fresh. We will definitely be back.
Great food and wine tasting menu! However the restaurant is very expensive - certainly not a place we could afford to visit often which is too bad... I’d love to go back! It’s very small and tables are very close together so not a good spot for a quiet romantic dinner... Great Italian family style food with a “fancy” twist! Amazing pasta!
We had a wonderful dining experience with an out-of-the-ordinary culinary experience. The food was wonderful! Unfortunately, because of the horrible acoustics, we were unable to enjoy quiet conversation during our dining experience. The struggle to hear was a problem. Talking about the courses was what one would want to do in a place like this. The space is small with very limited seating. The courses were wonderful, and the wine was fabulous. However, I would have expected a more well-dressed serving staff from a top-notch restaurant that charges $70 per plate and up. Jeans and runners didn't cut it for me. But the servers were well-versed and experts in their craft, which added to the experience. I would return for the food, but it would be a difficult decision to make if I wanted to have conversation with friends or family. Turn your hearing aid up, put on your yelling voice, and prepare for a wonderful dining experience like you've never had in Saskatoon, and one you'll not soon forget!
Best dining experience in Saskatchewan, for sure! The timing if the 7 courses, the recommended wine pairing, the dessert taste experience to conclude the night - it all made for an unforgettable evening with friends!!
The food here was amazing. It is some of the best I have ever had in Saskatoon. I would definitely go back, especially for their fresh pasta.
I highly recommend doing the alla famiglia dinning experience.
Once again Little Grouse was exceptional! We went for a girl's nice and did the large tasting menu with wine pairings. The food was excellent and the service was amazing. A great place for a special occasion. I can't wait to go back!
While the food was very good and beautifully presented we felt it was way overpriced. We have had many excellent meals over the years in Saskatoon for far less than we paid here. Service was excellent tho. Our position near the front entrance was also very cold and I had to wear my coat for the duration of our stay (The couple next to us also had to move because of the cold) I did note this to our server and he said that they are addressing the problem by installing an extra heater.
Food was outstanding. This restaurant is easily the best in the province and arguably one of the best in North America right now. Scallops melted in your mouth and lamb was done to perfection. Worth every penny.
A great find and well worth taking in if you have the chance
This was our third visit and we enjoyed it immensely. The occasion was our 47th anniversary. We had the "small" tasting menu with wine pairings. It was a thoughtful approach for them to pack up any of the courses thawe didn't finish - more restaurants should consider this approach. Yes it was an expensive meal but worth it for a special occasion such as our's.
Amazing food! The pasta is so yummy! Only downside was that we were placed at a table by the window and you would feel a draft of cold air whenever someone walked into the restaurant.
We had an absolutely amazing experience at the Grouse this past Saturday. All of the staff were extremely knowledgeable without being pretentious and made our evening that much better. We will be back!
Amazing food. Alla famiglia option is the way to go. Will definitely return. Excited that restaurant is expanding to Regina
I was SO excited try Little Grouse as I'm a huge fan of Ayden and Sticks and Stones and the meals at those restaurants are always plentiful and amazing, but this experience left me less than satisfied. The portions were tiny and very very expensive for the amount of food you get - so much so I had to stop at a drive through on the way home because I was starving (and I don't have a huge appetite to begin with)! Oh well, at least you do get a very large delicious glass of wine and the staff is wonderful. It breaks my heart to say I won't be going back :(
Our third visit proved as good as the first two.
Saskatoon has some good places to eat, but on our visits there it's hard not to choose Little Grouse.
The food is excellent, with a nice selection of pastas, main courses, and desserts. Each course shows imagination in the combination of ingredients, but they're also focused.
We shared a pasta, and each of us had a main course and a dessert. We felt well fed, but not overstuffed.
The wine selection by the glass is more than an adequate (though it's always nice to have more), and they have an excellent selection of bottles. Many of the wines and digestifs on the menu are not things you can find in Saskatchewan liquor stores. The Sommelier knows what he's doing and is happy to share information and samples.
The service is excellent: relaxed, informed, attentive.
The room isn't a big one, and noise levels are moderate. We like to sit at the bar and watch the kitchen staff prepare the meals.
Can't recommend this place highly enough. We will certainly be back next time we're in Saskatoon, and we're looking forward to their pop-up in Regina in February 2018.
Superb meal. I hosted a guest and we thoroughly enjoyed the 7 course meal. Nicely paced. Portions not too large. Very attentive and expert staff.
Only negative comment: we were seated near the front door in -20 weather. Every time the door opens, we were blasted with frigid air. Also acoustics challenging for dinner conversations
Highly recommend this place. Every time I have had the 7 course meal, it has been different and excellent
We really wanted to love the place... the food was good, but wasn't memorable for the price!
First time at Little Grouse this past Saturday. Wanted somewhere special to celebrate my son's birthday. We both enjoy good food and seek out restaurants that are not your typical chain type of food. I drove in from Edmonton for my son's birthday. Easily made reservations on Open Table and Little Grouse confirmed the day before just to ensure we had not changed our plans. We opted for the large tasting menu and wine flight. Service was pretty perfect. The wine came out prior to the food (except for once) and all the food came out quickly from the kitchen so hot food was hot ,etc. (except our lamb chop which wasn't hot). The timing of the meal was spot on. Although previous reviews had mentioned the small portions we were more than satisfied after the end of our meal. My son is 24 and 6 ft. 3 in. so does not have a small appetite and he was full.
That night we had the opportunity to try the white truffle so it was nice to have an unique experience.
All the food was delicious and well-prepared and seasoned to our liking. For example, the lamb chop, although not hot when it arrived, was perfectly cooked and the ragu it sat on was so yummy it was one of the highlights.
We plan on coming back . Although a bit pricey it was fairly priced based on the number of dishes, the ingredients and the effort of those dishes.
best place to eat in Saskatoon will definitely go back
7-course tasting menu had great variety and distinctive flavours. Perfect blend of traditional and slightly experimental. Smallish portions of each course combined for a very satisfying meal. Choose a weeknight so you'll have time to savour.
All the food was terrible. Left a message with the restaurant addressing my concern, no one responded back. Unprofessional in my opinion. Didn't want to leave a bad review since I am hoping it was just an off day, but the lack of response to my concern forces me to do so.
I would have given this experience an overall 2 except, after experiencing the bill while leaving a restaurant hungry, I have trouble calling that "fair". First I will say that most of what we tasted (note that I didn't say "ate") was really delicious, the wine and drinks were also lovely, and our waiter and sommelier were so good at their jobs and were much appreciated and handsomely tipped. But ... the place was so noisy. So noisy that at our table of six we could hardly even hear the person across from us and often could not hear the wait staff very well either. We had both young and middle-aged adult ears at our table, so it wasn't just an "age thing". And then ... the portions were laughably small. When I saw my adult (and normal sized) son's main dish with the teeny weeny single lamb chop sitting atop a little cluster of ground lamb and ingredients (about a quarter of a cup's worth) beneath it, my heart wept and I wanted to stand up and say (yell), "seriously??!!" Between the six of us us we shared 3 appetizers ... mere single bites of each ... two pasta dishes and one risotto dish to share (as recommended by our server) and one main each. Had the mains been reasonably sized, this would have been enough. As it was we were left feeling a bit hollow in stomach and wallet, we went elsewhere for drinks and dessert and then, I believe, we all went home and had a snack before licking our wounds. The cost is, in my opinion, outrageous and the portions ridiculously small for even the most excellent food. I won't be going there again and won't be recommending it to others unless they have hundreds of dollars they want to burn before they make a run to a fast food place to fill the hole that is left. I have an appropriate quote to add here, "Art is anything you can get away with” – Marshall McLuhan or Andy Warhol. And it appears that LG on the P is getting away with it. The Emperor's New Clothes also comes to mind when I read all the 5/5 reviews.
MUST try the ravioli! And let them recommend your wine after you have ordered! The full Alla Famiglia experience isn’t something I would do frequently because it is a bit more, but it’s a beautiful meal/experience for a special occasion. Otherwise, or at other times, I would just go and eat pasta.
Such a gem of a place. Great service, cute decor, beautiful food.
I was disappointed as we had the alla familia. It was 70.00 per person. The food was very good, however with 3 grown men it wasn’t enough food. The service was exceptional.
Small portions for the money. Tables were really close together. Food was tasty but the portions were just way too small. I had a pasta dish and it arrived cold. They made another dish and comped it. Our party of 6 was there for close to 3 hours.
Will not be back...ever.
This was our first time dining at Little Grouse and it definitely won’t be our last time!! It is a little gem that for sure! The 2 waiters were both extremely knowledgeable and so very friendly - it was a real treat to see how passionate they were about everything on the menu. We had the salami sampler for an appetizer and then tried 2 different kinds of the pasta - although it was very hard to choose since they all sounded delicious. Our meal was fabulous to say the least! Loved it. Only downside was not having room for dessert - next time!! Thanks for the awesome meal!!
Fantastic! Alla Famiglia is the way to go and looking forward to the long version. Great service, great food, attentive service. This restaurant rates very, very high on our list of favourites!
I always try to get here when I’m in Saskatoon. Fantastic on all fronts! Sit at the bar and chat with Jesse about the food.
Food was excellent as usual. This is a place for special occasions, if big portions are your thing then don’t come here. Having said that it does seems to me that portion sizes have actually gotten smaller. Given the fact we dropped $600 for 4 (before tip) this can be a concern for some. Embrace the experience though, this is something special.
This is a small, quaint restaurant. The service was excellent. It did get quite loud as the evening progressed. The food was excellent but pricey. Portions are on the small side. A main course would not be enough for most...you need to add at least one or two appy or secondi dishes. In the end, the multi-course dinner would have been a better value for our group. Wine list had decent variety but again, pricey. A $100 bottle was seen in the liquor store for $16. That's an obscene mark up!!
I would definitely recommend it for foodies, and those who don't mind an expensive night out. It isn't rushed.
Second time at the little grouse. Did the tasting menu. It was excellent. I don't think you can ever leave this place hungry! Recommend this place to everyone.
Already recommended this place to others.
I really enjoyed the food, the right space of time between meals, the right amount of service without appearing overbearing.
We enjoyed our time very much and look forward to another night there!
Lots of talk but little food (portions). Hot food came cold. Deserts were tiny, bland and downright weird....anything but tasty. Save your $ for 3 outings a good restaurant for the price of a single outing here.
I recently visited Little Grouse with a friend who was visiting from Edmonton. I had heard amazing reviews about this restaurant and I wanted to show her the best of Saskatoon as she was only in for a short period of time. We were so happy with our choice! The ambiance was lovely, I hadn't expected such a tiny establishment but it only added to the experience. It was never too loud and we were able to carry on conversation with ease. We decided to go with the small Alla Famiglia and wine pairing. The food was phenomenal and the wine enhanced the flavours. We couldn't stop talking about the meal after we had left. It was such a nice evening out and I would recommend it to anybody looking for a special night out with loved ones.
Never going back. Main courses smaller than appetizers. Outrageously expensive.
Food was underwhelming at best. Plain. Little flavour. Wine recommendations were ok. Very loud!!
