Los Colibris Ratings and Reviews
We had a fine experience, but likely won’t return. Food was good, but menu was only in Spanish and there wasn’t a lot we were interested in. Our portions were small, but we split an appetizer, had an entree each and left the restaurant full but not weighed down. I consider that fine, but I’m also not able to give full marks for “value”.
The ambiance was great, calm and reasonable noise level so you could have a conversation with your party without being overpowered by those of others. The staff was very attentive, maybe overly so.
The men’s restroom was out of service at one point so I had to use the place next door (which was attached and likely also owned by the same operator) and my wife indicated the ladies room was mildly disturbing.
Overall I have to give 4 stars as it was a good experience, but not one we would be interested in enjoying again. If anything, the place next door looked more hip and was likely more our speed. This establishment strikes me as trying very hard to be cliche 5-star, is a little over-pretentious (no English menu), and falls a little south of the standard they have set for themselves as a result. Upon leaving, we could take a bit of a breath, shake off the act and consider where next for some fun.
Food was delicious but felt the entrees were a bit pricey for what you received.
Food was delicious. Perfect spot for dinner as it is right next to the Royal Alex theatre. Recommend it to everyone.
We always enjoy our pre-theatre dinners at Los Colibris. Great atmosphere. Great food. Enjoy.
Fantastic food and a lovely atmosphere. Delicious, fresh flavours in the tuna tostada and the salmon ceviche! Great for date night! Very aware of gluten-free requirements making the dinning experience that much better!
Enjoyed every second and every mouthful. Food was really tasty and desert was excellent (carrot cheesecake BTW)
Prior to seeing Come from Away, my husband and I enjoyed another, of many great Valentine dinners. Great service and atmosphere. We will be back. Thank you!!
$20 for each vodka martini???? Really??? My friend and I were there pre Unique Lives at RTH. Last year when we ate at Los Colibris before each Unique Lives talk - we paid $12/martini. $20 and being told by our not too pleasant waitress that $20 was standard, really spoiled the dinner. We each had 2 martinis — so $40 each. When we complained they lowered the price to $16 each - sooo $32 each — $64 for us to have 2 martinis. What a rip off!!!
Great food...Great ambience...Great Service
It had snowed quite a bit on the day that we went to the restaurant. The steps were very slippery, and we had to tread with caution. Once we were past that, we were treated well by the staff at the restaurant. They have plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. We went with the Guacamole and Tostadas for starters, the Vegetarian special of the day for the main course, and Panacotta for dessert. It isn't the traditional Mexican fare I have come to expect, but the flavors were brilliant. I would definitely go back for more.
We ordered from the $43 Winterlicious it was definitely worth the money. If we were to have ordered off the regular menu I would have found it tad pricey. Appetizers were slow coming out so we were given free guac and chips which was excellent recovery by servers. There was Birthday at our table they gave us delicious churro & ice cream dessert. I would go back for drinks and apps.
Had lunch with 3 other friends who all enjoyed themselves too. Atmosphere was nice. The Mexican theme was great and not over done at all. The food was quite good. We all had the winterlicious menu. Pulled pork tacos with habaneros was just spicy enough so you got that great flavour but not over powering or painful. Would definitely recommend to others and would go back again. Wish they served lunch outside of Winterlicious.
We were there for Winterlicious and wanted to try the restaurant. Only odd and disappointing thing -- all 3 first courses were chicken based. And and of 1 of the 3 second courses was chicken. Should have been called Chickenlicious!
Excellent choice for dinner, shame they don’t have Mexican wines
The food was incredibly delicious, a definite step up from your standard Mexican fare. Both in terms of the types of flavour combinations as well as presentation, it absolutely elevated simple dishes into delicious and challenging indulgences.
The service was wonderful from everyone we talked to. The menu was great with a lot of interesting and tastes options. I only wish we brought more people so we could have sampled more things. We will be back
Delicious food, fine dining ambience and polished service, what's not to like! Amazing cocktails too!
This was our 5 year anniversary dinner and it was a memorable experience. Kat was wonderful and the food was delicious! We will definitely be back again!
I try to eat at Los Colibris any time I'm in Toronto - the food, service and ambience are always excellent. A rich interior space with a lovely bar area and ample seating, white tablecloths, muted lighting, dark wood surfaces - it's a contemporary interpretation of old-world sophistication. The menu is sublime, but I particularly like sharing the wonderful appetizers - gorgeous, fresh and citrusy ceviches with a hint of heat and velvety avocado, a variety of small hand-made empanadas with dark, mole-inspired sauces for dipping, spicy grilled shrimp on a bed of smooth corn puree. The whole menu is about perfectly matched tastes and textures - try the Tacos de Rajas Poblanas, confit chicken in a cream sauce dotted with sweet corn and flecks of roasted poblano chilis, dusted with panela cheese, which you can stuff into house-made flour or corn tortillas. As my dining companion said, who knew corn (the tortillas, the kernels nestled in cream and poblanos, the corn puree) tasted like this? If you want a delicious entree, try the Chiles en Nogata -a roasted, pork-stuffed poblano pepper with creamy walnut sauce and poblano rice. Ask the server to recommend wines - these flavours demand the right combinations - or, better yet, try a proper margarita or browse the tequila menu. Highly recommended.
Amazing service and guacamole! The atmosphere is great for a small get together, very intimate atmosphere but casual. Los Colibris has coat check, booth seating, and it is a dinner resto that opens at 5pm.
Great overall experience! Winterlicious menu was great. I will definitely go back
We just weren't very happy with the food. It looked amazing but it didn't seem to have enough seasoning and the ingredients didn't seem fresh.
Overall it was good but their vegetarian Entree wasn’t good. Rest of the food was great. Margaritas were good but really small in size for $15 (3 sips and done).
The service at Los Colibris was superb to say the least. The waiters and waitresses were very attentive and very helpful with describing the dishes especially since my friend and I were not familiar with the authentic Mexican cuisine. Overall, it was a good experience.
My husband and I needed a quick / close dinner option for a mid-week pre-symphony dinner. I had been to the taco bar downstairs for afterwork drinks and snacks and loved the authentic mexican flavours. Since them I had been wanting to dine at Los Colibris for a more intimate dinner. They did not disappoint! From the ambiance -- dark yet warm and inviting -- to the amazing smells wafting from the open kitchen, and the carefully balanced flavours of each dish, everything was just right. The service was also good with attentive and down to earth servers, who recommended options to us for a tasting / tapas meal to share. The wine was also reasonably priced and offered decent quality selections. We had the guacamole with pomegranate seeds, queso fundido, sweet corn cakes with brisket, and tacos con pollo with crema, paired with a few glasses of Valleymore Riojo -- all in for $100.
Great food but my only comment would be that I had made reservations a day before on-line and when we arrived, they gave us a terrible table. Other than that, great waitress and overall a wonderful meal :)
The food was okay. I found the apps we’re much better than the mains. The service started off great, but once our waiter left and another one started serving us, it was terrible. He went to pick up our plates while we were still eating and not finished. They cleared our table while one of the glasses was half full of wine and our cappuccino’s were cold; we asked for new ones. It seemed very rushed and unprofessional. Definitely won’t be attending again.
A very enjoyable night. A lovely spot for the winter, cozy and warm colours inside. They hit every mark.
=Fantastic, I will for sure go again and refer others as well
Food and atmosphere was great. Service was excellent. Will definitely go back.
We have been to Los Colibris at least 5 times. The food was delicious. It did feel a little different as in previous visits the waiter would explain the dishes when placed in front of us. I missed that. As well, I found the appetizers had more flare in the plating previously. Overall food was still very good, but a lesser more traditional experience.
We were two couples, we sat in a round booth with two chairs outside, very comfortable and leads to good eye contact all around. Food presentation was excellent, the food was great, the service was so-so with some mistakes. The coat check out was congested a bit.
Overall very good value
Another fabulous evening with friends at Los Colibris. Our server, Pat, was attentive to our needs and explained the menu in an easy-going manner. We had the guacamole and cheese appetizers which were a great precursor to our mains. The two men had the sea bass which was quite tasty. The ladies shared the chiles en nogada which they are still raving about. We then finished the evening by sharing their famous churro sandwich which is deliciously decadent.
A wonderful dining experience that we will repeat real soon
Nice surprise - chose the restaurant for its location, opposite Roy Thomson Hall, and found the food, service and ambiance all well above expectations! So many good menu options, we decided to order multiple starters, just to try a variety of things. Top choice, the ceviche; just average, an empanada with mushroom reduction (seemed overcooked). Other starters all very good!
Overpriced. Skimpy portions. Need vegetables. Tempid cappuccino. Tasty. Great service.
Great restaurant, surprised my girlfriend for her birthday and she loved it.
Will go there again
SECOND VISIT TO THIS RESTAURANT. ALL AROUND AMAZING !!!!
The only thing I would change is tables for 2 are very close together.
Once again phenomenal service and great food. Lots of tasty tequilas and liqueurs. Love this restaurant and the staff.
Great food, attentive service. A bit pricey but I figure that is due to the location in the theatre district.
We were staying near Rogers Centre and wanted a place we could walk to that was upscale but still casual. The staff was very friendly and were patient with my wife's dietary restrictions. The atmosphere was great, dimmed lights and friendly banter from the kitchen. My only negative would be the limited beer selection. All in all a great experience!
