   Food was DELICIOUS. I have been to the sister location, “Madi”, and they are pretty similar. This location was beautiful and food was super yummy. Would go again!

   After being seated in the outdoor parklet, it took twenty minutes for someone to even come by with water, and then another five minutes for the server to greet us. We ended up putting our whole order in at once (drinks, starters, entrees) as we didn’t know when the server would come around again. Drinks and starters were great, the steak frites and tuna tartare were delicious. Entrees were disappointing, the short ribs were drowning in sauce and the pork chop was extremely dry. We asked the server to put two desserts in to go and then close us out so we could avoid another long wait. Server disappeared and 20 minutes later a runner brings our desserts out all bagged up and ready to go. Great, however the server is still nowhere in sight and we need to pay. My boyfriend finally ended up walking inside the restaurant to pay our bill because we had clearly been forgotten about. As we were leaving there were more couples who had also been seated and forgotten about, it seems this place was a little overwhelmed and not able to provide timely service.

   My recent visit to Madison in University Heights was an absolute delight. With a keen focus on delivering a unique dining experience, this eatery shone through in all respects, from the exquisite food to the captivating ambiance. The star of the evening was the Chicken Milanese. This dish was artfully prepared, radiating elegance in every bite. The chicken was perfectly cooked, maintaining a delicate balance between crispiness and juiciness. But the real highlight was the delightful combination of arugula dressed in a lemon vinaigrette. The tanginess of the vinaigrette cut through the richness of the chicken, providing a light, refreshing taste that was utterly divine. Of course, it would be remiss of me not to mention the Brie. Presented as a half wheel with a side of apricot-habanero jam and grilled bread, it was a promising start. However, the Brie itself didn’t quite hit the mark - it lacked the usual creaminess that one would expect from this cheese. On the bright side, the accompanying apricot-habanero jam was a revelation. It provided the perfect amount of heat, elevating the taste of the Brie. The jam’s sweet and spicy profile interacted wonderfully with the cheese, proving that even if the Brie was just okay, the thoughtfulness behind the pairing was commendable. To accompany the meal, I opted for the Any Port in a Storm cocktail - a unique spin on the classic tiki drink. Distinguished by its inclusion of port, this cocktail took a fascinating detour from tradition. It was a smooth and balanced blend, the port adding an intriguing depth of flavor that was truly memorable. Adding to the overall delightful experience at Madison was the impeccable service. Attentive and professional, the staff ensured we felt cared for throughout the evening. We were checked upon regularly, ensuring our glasses were never empty and our needs were met.

   Probably this is the last time I’m gonna be there. We went there and food was below average. We ordered the sea bass and the fish smelled really bad to the point that we could not even taste a bite. The server said absolutely no problem, I’ll take it back and we ordered a salad. Then on the bill, the charged us for the sea bass. When I asked the sever she said the manager said it won’t be returned unless it’s a mess up by the kitchen. I told her that in all restaurants I have been to, if you didn’t like the dish or the dish didn’t look or taste good, the return it with no charge. But clearly this place isn’t among the top places anymore. We used to go there a lot , but food quality has dropped dramatically as well as the service. It’s not worth the price you are paying.

   Our waiter Tony was awesome and nothing like some jazz music to lighten the mood. The service staff here are always so friendly and chipper for such a cool/hip joint! Love this place… plus natty wine menu = a plus!

   Definitely a cute, airy, fun and upbeat space. We ordered a lot of food and some standout dishes were the gnocchi, ravioli, and burger. The short rib and chicken weren’t as good as expected :( Drinks were amazing and highly recommend getting the tarot drink for a fun experience!

   Great ambience. An experience. Loved the Jazz Tuesday nights. Would advise more nonalcoholic choices and specialty coffees. I asked for an Irish coffee and received what tasted like a Folgers with a shot of cheap whiskey. Wa s not impressed with the pasta dishes. Would stick with the wonderful appetizers and a filet or pork chop choice. The craft cocktails are amazing

    The food was really good and we had a lovely time. Only note, our waiter was distracted and forgot us a few times. We played a game to see how long it would take him to get back to us; sometimes it was 5 minutes, sometimes 15, sometimes 20.

    This was my second time here, unfortunately the experience could've been better. Food was great, but we had to wait 35 min for our table despite having a reservation. The hostess offered to give us free drinks as an apology, but when the check came this was not the case. We had to remind our waiter about this.

    Enjoyed an excellent meal at Madison! The sea bass entree and burrata and roasted tomatoes app was fantastic! On a previous visit the burger was top-notch. Our server JB was friendly and so professional. Highly recommend!

    First I would like to state that we just love the food servers, individually and collectively. That said, the quality of food was abysmal in terms of my entree. I ordered the chicken piccata special and it was literally a notch or two above a Swanson's TV dinner - and that's being kind. Not sure that I would even pay $8 for this meal no less $27. We have been patrons of Madison for as long as they have been open and have always had a 5-star meal. What happened Madison????

    The evening started out with great service but then our server just disappeared. We were going to order dessert but after so much time had elapsed, we decided to just get the bill and leave. The tables around us were also waiting. I had to go in and get the server. The drinks were amazing but the food was unremarkable.

    The space us beautiful but the noise level is way too high. You need to shout across the table. The food is just okay. Some plates were just pasta with sauce, like you could do at home. Too pricey for the quality

    Took 2 friends who have never been to restaurant before and was excited to share a great experience . It didn’t happen - had reservation for 5 pm- hostess stand wasn’t organized but got seated at a nice table - long time for waiter to greet us- VERY long time( more than 10 minutes for my friend to get her wine and only after we asked another employee for her drink. Food took LONG TIME and arrived warm not hot or fresh. We waited another 15 minutes to try and pay and check out and finally I literally held up the credit card and tray and had to borderline yell to get anyone’s attention. Very bad experience and for $200 for 3 people expected much better service - one of the worst server experiences I’ve had in SD. Hesitant to come back, which is sad, as just started going back to this place and are locals.

    Took our family here for Mother’s Day brunch, and everyone liked it a lot!! We were seated in the front patio so it wasn’t quite as cute as inside or the back patio, but still very nice. It was quiet out front which was good for us. Food and drinks were delicious and unique, and our server was great! We will be back for brunch again!

    We were welcomed by Natalie, who helped us to a booth of our preference. Then, Tony, our server, took great care of us during the evening. We enjoyed the blues band, but could see that in the main dining room, it could be very loud… We were grateful for some gluten-free options on the menu, and would encourage the restaurant to consider tamari sauce over soy sauce as the poke, when “naked” was uninspiring… Burrata was good as was the fish. Loved the atmosphere. I recommend it.

Unfortunately, all the dishes we wanted to try were apparently taken off the menu the week before- super disappointed. The service was exceptional & the dishes we ordered were exceptional.     This place is one of the gem restaurants in the San Diego area. Everything in this place is extraordinary. The foods, drinks, desserts everything is amazing. Staff are very friendly and attentive. This Saturday night where we were sitting inside was a bit breezy and not any heat torch close by to keep you and the food warm.
