Our server Blair was awesome! Very knowledgeable and friendly!
Great meal and service. Wait times were reasonable, food was amazing! Definitely on my list of favorites!
I thought second time might be the charm but not for us. No problem with the wait staff as she did as much as she could. Our server came to us at 805 and told us our food would be just a few minutes. Reservation at 645 received entree at 835. Pasta and a burger??? Food was fine when we got it. Table next to us got served and done while we waited and they arrived 15 minutes after us. Some how a table of 10 downstairs bumped us down in the queue. Appreciated manager coming to us and offering an apology and comp desserts. Would still recommend you to others but with some caveats.
Great experience, highly recommend!
Excellent service. Very good selection of wine to accompany the delicious halibut and lamb. The fish soup is just what you need to get warmed up on a cool evening.
Went for happy hour with some girl friends. Great food and drinks. Service is always awesome. Will be back :)
Multi generational birthday dinner. The menu was varied and had something interesting for everybody, the quality and preparation of the food was excellent, portions were generous, service was attentive and engaging and the noise levels were low so plenty of opportunity for comfortable conversation. Overall a great experience.
Me and my fiancé love coming here! Duck nachos are our absolute favorite. Service is always great!
Excellent food, fantastic service. Fairly priced. Be will eat here again for sure.
Staff are awesome. Welcoming, engaging, friendly and smart. Food choice and quality are both excellent as well.
A great dining experience. Will go again!
A bit of a wait on drinks but not so much to deter you from enjoying the night.
Great crowd and amazing food:)
We went at 5:00 pm for happy hour and had the restaurant to ourselves. Service and food was fantastic. As the restaurant filled up it became quite loud and difficult to carry on a conversation. We would definitely eat there again.
Food was cooked to perfection. Baked cod special was amazing. Our server Laura was attentive, knowledgeable and made us feel at home. Can’t wait to go back.
I am over 50 and a candle on the table would have been handy for reading the Menu. I had to use my flashlight.
Great food and service!
Good friendly service, good happy hour prices and tasty food. We both had the seafood soup - lots of fish and mussels and good value.
The hostess was great in helping get comfortable seating for my elderly mother. We placed our food order with the waitress but then waited over an hour without food. I got up from the table and found her and told her we were starving (we noticed the table next to us got their food fairly quickly). Somehow our food order did not make it to the kitchen due to an electronic problem. When it eventually came, we were pleased with the calamari app and the rack of lamb main was delicious. However, two in the party ordered the special fish of the day (pan fried cod) but it turned out to be tough. I suspect it was due to quality of the fish rather than the cooking.
I'll probably try this place again as the food and service is normally very good here. Half of our party is very doubtful though.
This place exceeded my expectations beyond great to utterly devine from app to main. The phyllo Brie app was a perfect app for two and was sooooo good!!! The salmon was the best I’ve had since I was in Vancouver 3 years ago. I’ve had lots of good salmon but the cook on this one was absolutely delicious perfection! My partners pasta was fresh and delicious as well! We didn’t have desert because our belly’s were so full and happy! I’d definitely go back here again and recommend anyone try this place!!!
This is our favourite place to eat. The food is always excellent.
Showed up for a 7:30 reservation. Seated promptly. Server arrived and introduced herself and said “I’ll let you settle in for a little while”. 5 or 10 minutes later she returned to take our drink order...water plus a bottle of wine, both of which arrived promptly. Four tiny slices of bread with specialty butter arrived soon as well...off to a good start. About 15 minutes after we had arrived we placed our order...4 appetizers that we like to share. A salad, a baked brie, chicken wings and duck confit nachos. Our server stated that it would be best to have the salad and brie served first followed by the other two. Our first two appies arrived one hour after we ordered them...almost an hour and a half after we arrived. Our wine was nearly gone. The salad was delicious (heart of palm) and the brie also was very good. After finishing these quite quickly due to our hunger, we waited a further 45 minutes for the last two appies. The chicken wings were room temperature as they must have been sitting for a while. I mentioned this to my server and she ran off with them stating that the entire order would be replaced. I would have been satisfied with a quick microwave to heat them up, but she was gone. 25 minutes later she returned with some steaming hot wings, but by this time we were late for my wife’s birthday celebration with friends, so had them boxed up and left. Two and a half hours for four appetizers is simply way too long. We heard multiple other tables being offered apologies for incorrect orders and mixed up orders. The table next to ours had a family of four, who received incorrect dinner orders, followed by regular tea when chamomile was ordered. I heard two other tables receive a “I’m so sorry. Oh we mixed that up. I’m so sorry.” The patrons to their credit all said “no worries”, but the constant mistakes were almost laughable. I will possibly return with the knowledge that dinner out at Magnum and Steins is actually your whole night out.
Unfortunately the service was nowhere near usual. Had to wait 15 minutes beyond our reservation time to be seated. 110 minutes from appetizers to main course.
Generally good as always. Got the shareable fish plate. Though told about the absence of mussels the plate was noticeably lacking on calamari and smoked salmon. Plenty of corn chips. Won’t reorder.
It was a busy night and food was a little slower getting to table than expected.
But will come back again...Thanks
Never have a bad meal here! Amazing drinks, food, and service!
Our server was super nice… the food absolutely delish… I had the salmon (the best I ever had and my husband had the lamb… which he thoroughly enjoyed….
The best food!!! The atmosphere and service is second to none!!! Great value for your money!!!
I’d give 10 stars if I could. This restaurant is one of the best dining experiences in St. John’s. If you’re a local, here on business or a tourist this is definitely a must try culinary delight.
The food is always on point and Bernie, Laura and staff are honestly amazing. They always seem to go that extra mile… 🙏🏻
Try the Duck Confit Nachos, what a gem. Beef is always a hit as well as their fish selections.
I’ve read some people who have eaten in the lower bar mention they felt a little crowded. If you are someone that likes their space be sure to book upstairs. If you like bumping elbows and a little more upbeat atmosphere reserve the lower bar! That’s where we always eat (or the patio in season).
Just wanted to leave a review for an excellent locally owned & operated gem! If you haven’t been, get up off the couch and make a visit. You’ll have a wonderful meal with wonderful people.
Overall the experience was good - but I had fish and chips and ordered a diet cola...
it took over an hour and a half to get the main course and so I had refills just to have something to sip on and they charged for every glass. They also charge separate for the fries with burgers so a burger and fries was over $ 26. That did not impress me much.
Food was amazing and the service was great!!
Each time I visit the bar and eat I am rarely disappointed. Staff and food are wonderful. Recommended highly.
One of the best meals we have had anywhere, outstanding! Service was excellent and we would highly recommend.
Our whole experience was exceptional. The food was incredible and I mean both in taste and presentation. The service, friendly, professional, helpful and not rushed. Thanks Kelly Ann. It all made for a most enjoyable evening and we will return.
Awesome as always!
Server was friendly however service was very slow. 1 hour, 40 minutes to get our mains. Once arrived, taste was good but all proteins were overcooked and dry. My 13 year old requested ketchup for her burger and fries but the restaurant did not have any. We thought it was odd to have a bar menu with no condiments.
Overall prices are high for the quality of food.
Entree’s came 40 minutes after the appetizer, halibut raw in the middle had to send it back
This was the best meal we had in St. Johns the Halibut and cod were amazing as was Kelly our server!
We had reservations made for inside. When we got there they wanted to sit us outside which we refused. We were then sat in a room with barely any lights and no other patrons. After waiting 15 minutes to be acknowledged by staff and no sign of anyone to serve us we left. We told the greeter that we were leaving. She never really seemed bothered. It seemed that they did not have enough staff for the room that we were seated in despite having reservations. They did not seem like they wanted to sit us inside.
We were ignorred for about 45 minutes and we had to go to the hostess and ask for out food and more water, food was half cold when it came out. And protion sizes were very small
Great food with a large variety and very friendly staff who are always able to assist and accommodate when needed. I have dietary needs and found this restaurant made adjustments to the menu without a problem. Is also a neat old building to dine in. Great spot!
