Chef & Owner Josiah Citrin has revived his Michelin 2-Star institution with an intimate, 14-seat restaurant with Chef/Partner Ken Takayama. In a setting that blurs the line between kitchen and dining room, Chefs and service staff guide guests through a 2.5-hour culinary experience.

Collaborating with California farmers from San Diego to Napa Valley, Chef Josiah sources the most unique and exclusive ingredients available. An 8-course tasting menu is bookended by canapés, amuse-bouches and mignardise, all of which showcase global flavors using both modern and classic techniques.

    My wife and I are foodies and have visited numerous Michelin-starred restaurants across the world and many 2 stars. Melisse was a giant disappointment. Below are my thoughts comparing Melisse to other 2-star Michelin restaurants. Pros 1. Outstanding service. 2. It's fun being in a room within a restaurant. Only 10 people were part of the service. 3. Very good wine pairings. Cons 1. Food creativity is poor compared to Ever, Oriole, Providence, etc. 2. Food presentation was poor, as was the dinnerware. 3. The taste wasn't bad, but it wasn't fantastic either. For the incredible cost, every bite should be an amazing experience. 4. Fine dining should also be healthy. None of the courses had any fermented elements and there were very few vegetables. 4 - 5 items were fried. In our last 10 Michelin visits, there was a total of one fried item. 5. The owner was eating in the room and didn't bother to stop at the other tables. There were only 4 to visit. 6. The room is an embarrassment. Plain floor and Crate & Barrel style tables and chairs. 7. No professional designer worked on this room. 8. I was joking that Melisse must have paid off Michelin.

    Wonderful creative tasty delicious with attentive service. The best food/restaurant in Los Aneles, expensive yes but for that special occasion or just the need to get the best food Melisse is perfect

    The absolute best. Start to finish the best fine dining experience in LA. I would be staging just to learn that croissant desert recipe

    Melisse exceeded expectations and was more than deserving of its 2 Michelin stars. The service was excellent, thoughtful, and exceptionally gracious. There was a clear passion by the waitstaff and the intimacy of the experience was exceptional. I was very impressed by our server, Vayou, who had an encyclopedic knowledge of the wine being served. The food was also exceptional, with many dishes being so good you wanted more. If anything, that was my only real wish. But isn't that always the case with fine dining? I honestly think Melisse would have its third star if it had a better space to work from. It's not to say the small, wonderfully intimate dining room is deficient in any way. But it lacks the beauty and ambiance of The French Laundry (even if does meet or exceed its culinary quality). I highly recommend Melisse to anyone who appreciates fine dining and experiencing Michelin-rated restaurants. If you know what to expect and appreciate such things, you will love it.

    Marvelous food, marvelous service. The wine pairing knocks the price into the stratosphere. It hurt, but we didn’t regret it.
