Like its Southern California namesake, Montecito combines a casual elegance with effortless sophistication in the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment District. Our two-storey dining room, lounge and outdoor patio is located steps away from Film Festival Headquarters at TIFF Bell Lightbox. While our Farm-to-Table menu highlights various purveyors from across Canada and changes weekly based on seasonal availability.
Have you Discovered Montecito?
The town of Montecito is a suburb of Santa Barbara California, and it is not known for any cuisine. The restaurant by that name in Toronto has pretentious food in odd portions with high prices that result from their lack of completeness in the dishes. The item I ordered, Perth County Pork Chop (Perth County is of course near Ottawa, not in California). I assume the name refers to its origin and not the style. It was a very large chunk of not so tasty pork and not so tender either. There was nothing else on the plate except some microscopic lentils. If you want bread - that would be another $10. You want a potato - another $10. And a vegetable? $10. They are all for two - no alternative for one or three. The Chicken Montecito, which I think is named for the restaurant, not the city, came with salad. Some pieces were dry, some not. The best thing about the place is that it has lots of room. The next best thing is where it's located. The servers are attentive, and they are eager to please. They'll even clean up while you're eating . They also fold your serviette if you don't. If you like dishes that are a large chunk of meat with a lot of décor and not much else, you've arrived. As for me, the price was high for what it is but not high in what it might be. There is a special deal in the wine bar upstairs but no one was there. Why did I go up there and down a dark hall: to find a washroom. They are nice little places for one.
Kale salad is delicious. The noise level was intrusive and made it hard to have a normal level conversation.
Our second time, and probably won't come back again. This time the kale salad was excellent, plenty of dressing and very tasty. The lamb pasta dish was quite good, but the sirloin and the lobster spaghetti were very disappointing. The lobster spaghetti was very rich, and had only one small chunk of lobster in it. The steak was not very tasty.
The wait staff was very attentive to time because we were going to theatre, and the manager gave us her card due to the poor lobster spaghetti.
This is a lovely restaurant with great decor, nice atmosphere and a great staff from hostess to servers to managers - unfortunately the food just doesn't live up to what they get right.
The pork belly as an appie was excellent. The wines were well priced. Really like the cool movie decor in the restaurant!
Great place for a couple. Also make sure you ask about parking options before you get there.
We loved the attention paid to locally sourced ingredients.
Food was absolutely delicious! It's a great location and the staff made us feel very comfortable
Great food, service and attention to detail. Thanks for offering a great space for our business lunch!
Food: we shared the kale salad to start and each of us had the hose specialty chicken . Both the salad and entree were excellent.
Service: The server was knowledgeable about the food, but fell short on the attentiveness towards us.
We have been to this restaurant a few times and do highly recommend it.
We had a late reservation so the place was fairly empty. There were 6 of us. The waiter was very nice but it took quite a while to get our drink order. It took a while to get our appetizers. I ordered bread (which should have been complimentary) and it wasn’t terribly fresh and the churned butter was extremely salty. Our main meals took forever to get to the table and the waiter didn’t return to get us drink refills. Once our food came, I was disappointed with the presentation. I had the chicken and it was basically two breasts of chicken and a huge side of wiry-looking mixed greens. What happened to getting a carb with your meal or a vegetable? The tables are made of a type of granite so my plate kept slipping around while I was cutting my meat. The chicken was juicy but I didn’t care for the spices used, too much garlic, I think. For the price we paid, I wouldn’t return. Too bad, the ambience was excellent.
We had order the bone in Filet for two. It was embarrassing how small the portion was. For $130 it wasn't enough to feed one person. The potato side was underdone. My wife had the lamb pasta which was okay.
Wonderful! Always go there.
We celebrated our first wedding anniversary here and they did not disappoint: impeccable service, atmosphere, food, wine, and staff. This restaurant is top of my list in Toronto.
The service was good. The server came over often to ask if we need anything else but he never smile, he is very cold, we tried to joke to make him smile to give people a warmer service. Noticed the other servers are the same. Not sure if this is their training. Hopefully their service will be warmer for my next visit.
We stumbled upon this place while vacating Toronto and glad we did. The food was amazing as well as the service. Drinks were a little pricey but the best we’ve had. Very nice place and will definitely come back if we’re in town again.
Anniversary dinner. Service was fantastic and the food was terrific!
Great wine list. Especially the Pinot Noirs
First time going there. It was an excellent experience.
We were greeted warmly by the host and brought to a special table set up for two. Quite romantic as we were celebrating our anniversary. The waiter was superb. He gave us menus that read Happy Anniversary on the front page. We were given one to ale home. We were also given complimentary “bubbly” to begin the evening. Our meals were absolutely delicious as was the dessert, which was also complimentary. It was the perfect evening.
Awesome experience! Awesome experience. There was a wedding party on the upper level that was quite loud.⁹
Tasty food, charming and hip atmosphere and stellar service. Peaches and cream were excellent, the Montecito chicken was perfectly tender and the Ontario grass fed steak was tender and had a very tasty carrot purée on it. Perfect place for a nice romantic date night.
Food and service super. Wait staff were flawless; very knowledgeable, attentive, and great menu and beverage advice. Only drawbacks as that the noise level was distracting.
Overall a great experience.
the environment is good, very nice and quiet place, the food is okay, however, I am excepting better foods.
I took my fiancé here to celebrate his birthday and the staff at Montecito made our experience so memorable! Every dish tasted so fresh and full of flavour. The staff was very knowledgeable with the menu and recommended great options to us. To finish off the night they brought our dessert on a wooden board which read happy birthday on it and the display was beautifully decorated with flower petals and candles.
I have a hospitality background and the service here blew me away. 5 star service!
Will definitely be back in the future!
did not expect such low quality food at a high end look restaurant
The lights were so long that we had to use cell phone flashlight to read the menu.
The music was quite loud and throbbing.
However we were pleased with the service and the food.
Excellent service. Food was tasty. But the prices are high, and the portions really small.
Horrible service, rude servers and lack of attention to paying customers who were not VIP. TIFF isn’t an excuse to ignore others customers.
Loved the Fogo Island Cod cake & Endive salad. Even more pivot to provide additional gluten & dairy free options always appreciated!
All staff made sure to please. I will definitely return and recommend to others.
Server was excellent.
After TIFF film. Service was amazing
Nice evening, great service and food!! Thank you
To be honest, the food was just okay, my husband and I both had pastas and I still regret not sending mine back or saying something.
Our server was great! We went for our anniversary dinner. It was a quiet Saturday night at the restaurant, almost seemed empty (7:30pm-10pm).
I'd go back for drinks, as they had a nice cocktail list, but likely not for food.
I would not recommend this place. The food was terrible. We were starving after our meal. They didn’t update the menu on their website so of course I was disappointed to learn they changed their menu after we arrived. We also specifically went there for the second floor only to learn it’s only opened Thursday-Sunday. The staff was great and very accommodating but the food was terrible.
The salad was too salty, server forgot an order all together and the pasta dish had clumpy noodles and was so spicy that it left us sweating! We are used to eating spicy food and it was still too much.... very disappointed second visit.
Very pricey but mostly very good food and cocktails, aside from some very questionable menu items (uncooked shrimp in a pasta?) overall a nice experience if you are willing to spend
Tried two fish dishes. Neither were great. One was halibut on a buttery mess of unappetizing "harvest vegetables" which were leafy greens without leaves... more like twigs. The cod had beans which were barely cooked. The pita and hummus appetizer was the best part of our meal. Good service and ambiance however.
Great ambiance for a Wednesday patio session with the girls. All staff were attentive, super friendly and personable. Throw in half priced wine bottles and appetizers, it was a great evening to catch up in style. Food input: The charcuterie board is devine!! Otherwise the group agreed the ribs were a bit dry and the shrimp a bit mushy. Near perfect.
This was my first time coming here and it was amazing, I also took a date here and she was in love with the place. The server was amazing and saw the nerves of the first date. She walked us through the menu and gave us amazing recommendations! Lovely place
Love the menu here.
