As a local, we have very many places we can eat. Many are better than the best restaurant in many other cities. The reason I love the Pelican Club and call it my Favorite Restaurant in New Orleans is because of several reasons. The bartenders, Adam and Bronco, are some of the best in the city. They provide awsome cocktails and wine by the glass with speed and humor. The wait staff is well trained and consistently pleasant and knowledgeable. The kitchen is one of the most stable in town. Richard (the owner and executive chef) has an incredible culinary repertoire. Bruce, Melvin, and Jose are in charge of cooking and provide the best duck, quail, lamb chops, seafood, and steaks in town. The menu is always consistent and for out of towners who visit occasionally you will always find your favorite dish on the menu. That being said, there are specials which are indeed, special! They consistently get the wine spectator award of excellence for their wine list which is reasonably priced. The corckage fee is also reasonable for locals.
My favorite dishes are the jerked pork chop and filet and my wife loves the fresh panneed gulf fish. We both love the seafood ravigote and gumbo.
I would recommend this restaurant as my favorite among my many favorites in this city with a well deserved great reputation for food.
