North and Navy
Our menu is inspired by tradition and dictated by the quality and availability of ingredients. We play off the similarities between the climates of Eastern Ontario and Northeast Italy, and create our take on classic dishes made with seasonal game, seafood and vegetables. Plus, sometimes we’ll just add whatever we want.
Loved the location and ambiance of the space. Food was good and service excellent. Would go back again for sure. We were there for Sunday night which has a set menu but we would like to try their a la carte choices the next time.
Excellent experience would recommend
North and Navy is one of my favorite restaurants in Ottawa. I have dined there on several occasions and enjoyed the overall experience every time. However, this weekend was different.
I usual sit in one of the banquettes unfortunately, this time around, our table was located right above the heat exchanger making it a very uncomfortable evening of overheating.
As for the food, it was a hit and miss experience for my partner and friends. Some of us had delicious plates (polpette, mint & pea parpadelle, beet cavatelli with burrata) while others were sadly disappointed. The flavors were simply overpowering the main ingredient (sea buckthorn and the scallop crudo) while others just didn’t seem to come together (roasted corn ravioli & shrimp and the rabbit & polenta). On a more positive note, the wine paring was very well done.
I will most probably return but will definitely wait for new items to be added to the menu.
This restaurants is overpriced and the food is unexceptional. The restaurant purports to serve "northern Italian cuisine" with their own take and/or sometimes they "just add whatever we want". My advice, stick to classic northern Italian cuisine like risottos and other traditional northern Italian dishes and please don't add whatever you want. The result does not elevate the dish, rather it makes for a resulting clash of tastes that is not in my experience pleasant (coconut milk infused polenta??). I'd like to say that the service somehow redeemed the poor food, but I can't even do that. The service was lacklustre at best and at times even a little truculent. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. You are better off spending your money buying a northern Italian cookbook and making good food at home!
This was a first visit for my wife and I. There was a very nice set menu with a wide selection of items to choose from. We'll have to go back to explore their regular menu!
Amazing place for foodies with great atmosphere and superb service. It always amazes me how the quality and delivery of service/product is consistently perfect.
Amazing experience from start to finish, the staff are all exceptional!
North and Navy was an excellent choice for my group of 10. the service was outstanding, very attentive yet not not too much and very accommodating to everyone. Food is very good and nice ambiance. highly recommend.
Absolutely incredible experience.
The venue is charming; intimate, quiet, and comfortable. I especially liked that we could talk at normal / low volume and hear each other across the table. Makes for a very nice ambiance.
The staff are attentive and charismatic - special shout out to our server and the head bartender of the night. Great advice on our meals and cocktails! They did not disappoint in the slightest!
Finally the food - oh my gosh the food! Each dish was unique and executed perfectly. The portions are quite healthy, so if you have a smaller appetite two plates are plenty. We went for the full three courses; I have a medium appetite and though two plates would have left me content, the quality of the meals ensured I ate absolutely everything. I had the house-cured pork shoulder to start, which was delicious. I wish I could pick a favourite between the Mint & Pea Pappardelle and the Coniglio (Rabbit) e Polenta, but alas - they're tied. My partner thoroughly enjoyed his Nova Scotia Scallop Crudo and his Primi dish (though I cannot remember what it was - sorry!), but the Grilled Swordfish "Saltimbocca" won his over entire soul. He was honestly transported away during the main - which gave both me and our server a chuckle.
I was blown away by the experience. 5/5, 10/10, whatever the scale of measure is, award full points. Even Mr. Never-The-Same-Place-Twice agrees, we will be back again!
Nous avons eu une expérience incroyable. Les plats étaient audacieux, assaisonné à la perfection, et les portions étaient parfaite. Un plus pour les vins natures sur la carte.
It was a Wonderful Experience with an outstanding waitress Mia. Will definitely go back
We chose restaurant as our evening out in Ottawa during our visit. The service and food was great. We ordered three starters and they were great. Ambiance was great. Waiter was very helpful and helped in choosing wine.
Perfect date night! We loved the food, service, ambience and decor of this cozy and inviting restaurant. It is hard to choose what to eat as every menu option looked delicious (and all of our picks were!). This is a wonderful spot for a special dinner with a loved one or a group of friends! We would highly reccomend and will certainly be back. You will not be disappointed!
Exceptional food and service. North and Navy never disappoints.
Beautiful old house on Nepean street. Service, food and ambiance are great as always. Cocktails very tasty and wine suggestions always a hit.
I did however think the mains were a little small for the price. I ordered rabbit which was a deboned rabbit leg consisting of 4 pieces. The polenta helped fill me up but still thought it was a tad overpriced.
Will be back but definately will verify what the main actually consists of.
The food is a delightful series of taste sensations and beautifully presented. The service is top notch. The atmosphere is a wonderful combination of laid-back and make-you-feel-special. Highly recommend!
Excellent food, drink and service as always! We were placed in a very nice room to the side of the bar area to accommodate the size of our group, which was much appreciated.
I found the food a little out there for my liking.
Food and service on point. Filling, and didn’t feel bloated after the meal. Will definitely come back.
Service was great! We were a group of 6 celebrating a birthday and they put us in the little "private" nook at the front of the restaurant, it was perfect! Was not a huge fan of the Cichèti Plate but the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese e Uovo was super delicious!!!
Noise level was not energetic. It was oppressively loud. I will not return until you do something to make your restaurant quieter.
N&N is our go to for a guaranteed great time. Dinner at Nona’s has been nothing but amazing in our last three visits this will yet. Thanks for the great service and always fantastic dinning and drinks!
First time and we will be back. We loved the entire experience.
Food was excellent, all of the staff were very understanding of a shellfish allergy and reassured us at every step that what we were ordering would be safe , and our server was awesome! Will definitely come back again!
Excellent, food was fantastic great portion size not over the top. We loved it.
We all had fantastic meals, and the service was great. My only quibble is that the dessert took over 20 minutes. We had to leave, so cancelled it. It was brought anyway (without the coffees we had ordered) and was not comped.
Our 1st visit, we sat at the bar, very casual, food and service was great and we will return.
Absolutely fantastic food and service and atmosphere. Always spend 1-2 nights at N&N when we’re in town!
Excellent as always. First time dining on a Sunday and the Sunday Gravy was superb!
My husband said he enjoyed the best meal of his life for his birthday. Our thank you for nonna meal today.
Another outstanding meal and wonderful service from Fraser! Thank you!!
We were there for a 6pm reservation so it was quiet. We got great wine recommendations for our meals. Great service. Terrific meals. Terrific deserts. It’s pricey but worth every penny. We will be recommending to friends.
As always, the food was amazing and service was fantastic.
Atmosphere is lovely, very charming.
Service was wonderful, attentive, helpful and friendly. Will definitely go back!
My mother was in town and she wanted to go somewhere a little different. The food was different and not your ordinary menu. Had the potato ravioli style dish and it was delicious. My sister enjoyed the liver dish.
It's not the only noisy restaurant but the noise was exceptional. The atmosphere is OK and, again not that unusual even for a top of the line restaurant. The service was excellent. However, it falls to the staff to meticulously translate the Italian writing, and we had to use the phone flashlight to even see the menu. Not the first time for that either. The menu choice was slightly small, so we had a time deciding on our choices after the translation, which is normally the sign of great things to come. However, the quail was good, but the sauce and polenta were bland. My friend's scallops were good but the sauce was bland as well. The appetizer mixed plate, which we shared, was great and we were too full to try the deserts. I will say that this was nothing like the first time I went with a group and we all sighed over the dishes we ordered.
The absolute best
A wonderful meal with an old high school friend who’s worked in the restaurant industry for years. We loved our food, the decor, the ambiance and the service. Highly recommend NoNa for our next night out!!!
We went out to celebrate St.Niklaus day.
Fabulous service and fabulous food.
