We thoroughly enjoyed it! Food was excellent, and the service was great! The only minor issue was that the three of us (out of the 4) received our food, and according to the server, the kitchen had made an error on the 4th order so it was delayed. However, she brought a soup, on the house, for this person who was able to start eating with us. It didn't take long for the order to come, and it was stunning, not only the presentation of it but the taste! It was the lingcod and was amazing! Thank you!
Can be fancy, can be casual good for larger groups.
Big portions, nice presentation, good cocktails. Seasar salad was great. Wednesday Porchetta special was very greasy. Atlantic char was good but the meal was not very hot. We had higher expectations, especially given the prices.
Had a late lunch with my husband and daughter today at Notch 8 restaurant. We were seated promptly by the hostess. After waiting for 10 minutes before anyone came by to acknowledge our presence and offer us drinks, I had to flag down a waiter. I understand that they were changing staff from serving the brunch buffet that starts from 11:30-2:30pm, but they had enough staff running around the restaurant to at least check on the newly seated patrons would have been nice. I noticed a couple of tables were having a hard time trying to flag someone down too. As for the food, I had ordered steak and fries, while my husband had fish and chips and my daughter had chicken strips and fries. The steak portion was very small...about six slices of meat that was slightly burnt. There was more fries than steak. Definitely not worth the expensive price tag. Perhaps management should take notes from Milestones or Earls on customer service and staff management. Not impressed and will not return anytime soon.
Eggs benny was disappointing but everything else was great!
We were originally going to Notch8 for brunch but realized when you arrived they only served brunch on Sundays. As we did not have reservations elsewhere we decided to stay for lunch. We were celebrating an occasion where all my girls was not working and we could spend time together as a family. We can say the lunch was delicious especially the West Coast sandwich! We were a little disappointed with the steak frites as it did not provide value for its price. I would definitely like to commend our server Wendy as she was friendly and attentive. To top things off, when she found out we were originally there for a brunch and found out it was only on Sundays, she surprised us with an awesome dessert. Nice Work! I do recommend this restaurant for special occasions and friendly and attentive service.
Excellent food and beautiful ambience. We had live music with our dinner on Thursday night. Highly recommend.
I would never recommend Notch8 to anyone I know.
The server on February 26, 2019 reserved at 8:45pm table was horrible.
In long sentences short; his attitude was very unpleasant. My friend and I were very excited to have a bit of cocktail moment for my birthday and I did not expect this type of horrible service at all. The server was in a bad mood to start with. We didn't even get a glass of water until we were about to leave. His motion of handing out the menu and serving the drinks seems like he was basically throwing it. To make matters more uncomfortable, he was forcing us to order anything on the menu although we just wanted cocktails for the night. I didn't want to make the situation awkward for my friend who I have invited so we ordered a cheese platter. I was going to give complaints, but I didn't want him or Notch8 to make my day more awful.
Additionally, I would very much like a sincere apology for adding extra charge to my credit card.
Took my boyfriend here for his 21st birthday. He loved it! The restaurant was nice and the service was great. It also wasn't noisy at all so it was very romantic. They also gave him a complimentary birthday dessert.
Went for the high tea which ended up being disappointing from start to finish. First our reservation was messed up then when we were able to get a seat we ended up in what I can only describe as a basement. The tea was fine but you could get the same thing with better deserts and seating at Starbucks. If you are looking for ambiance or an interesting experience go elsewhere.
The Sunday brunch is awesome!! Includes a ceased from the Caesar bar!!
The flow of the restaurant needs some serious revamp as guests are bumping into waitstaff and there's no clear path andseems chaotic. DJ music does not seem appropriate.
Bread appetizer was dry and bland. Med-rare steak came out blue and cold while the sides varied from crunchy and cold to overdone. Salad was okay. Drink was below par. Server was very polite and the atmosphere was nice overall. Would have rather stayed home 👌🏻
I ordered the daily feature which was the BBQ ribs. I was expecting them to be slow cooked and fall off the bone, the type most restaurants offer as thier feature meal. I was very dissatisfied when they were sticking to the bone, seemed like they were super rushed in making them.
Great food, great service, great company! What else can you ask for.
The food was very tasty but was cold. They need to find a way to keep things on the buffet at the proper temp. I had their brussel sprouts/cauliflower veg dish which i thought was delish but it was cold, and i got it both times i went up to the buffet but was cold both times! If they were more prudent about checking the dishes (not just the ones that are empty but for quality and temp) then it would be 5 stars. Cold veg will only get them 3.5-4.
Service was great but it was too loud and not much of privacy. Didn’t realized that we couldn’t get regular lunch during lunch buffet hours but the food turned out great!
It was a nice place to spend time with your family or friends. The quality of food is awesome. Just want more choices.
Notch 8 was "Top Notch". Each item was prepared with care and attention. Service staff was also trained well--exemplary employees who had a commitment to superior service. The restaurant was very nice, but the area to get the food could get very crowded.
Our recent dinner at Notch 8 in the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver was fabulous.
I had the "Sea"sar Salad with the Smoked Salmon Bacon, the Crab & Shrimp Risotto and the Sticky Toffee Pudding. My husband had the Classic C.A.B. (Certified Angus Beef) 10 oz Strip Loin (cooked perfectly rare) with Roasted Potatoes and Vegetables.
We would recommend all of these dishes to try.
The food was amazing and the presentation was fantastic. However, the server was horrible. I felt like I was in a diner rather than a high end restaurant. I would have had a 5/5 experience, if I had a courteous server.
The overall service is good but the hostess is a little awkward as she gave us a small table that was in the middle of an aisle and was not an ideal spot for dinner. We were settled in a bigger table of a more cozy area only after our request. She probably needs more training.
Delicious NY strip
Menu is creative and food is good. Bison had great flavour, but on the small side. NY steak was awesome.
Service very slow, but good people.
Great for special occasions
The brunch starts at 11:30am. Variety of delicious food. The desserts were okay. The servers were attentive and cleared our plates quickly.
Ambiance excellent. Good food. Would return.
We REALLY enjoyed the food. We were originally seated at a table that was too cold/drafty for us, and we were promptly moved upon request. We were then seated next to the fireplace, which was too hot. Again, upon request, the fireplace next to us was turned off, and we were finally comfortable. Our server was lacking the flare that we like to enjoy when we go our for an expensive dinner. The food was to die for, and the drinks were excellent. We don't mind paying more for a really good meal, and that's exactly what this was. All in all, we rate it a 4 out of 5 stars because we would definitely return due to the food, but the periphery things that turn a great meal into an unforgettable evening could be tuned up a little.
Very nice food
Amazing! Super good service, excellent drinks and deliciously perfectly cooked steak. Will be back, many times. Get the baked Alaskan for desert. Insane
My friends and I had a terrible experience on Saturday night at Notch 8. I chose it to try what they had for the Dine Out Vancouver event and it was awful. From the wait staff who clearly did not understand how to engage with clientele, or to serve (in general), and were even rude (Brandon) - I'd be looking into the way they serve people. Then the appy - ONE single scallop on a few sprigs of greens, on a shell. As a first course?! It was insulting. Then the main was luke warm. It was sent back and then returned hot. Venison was nice but there was no fresh flavours on the plate - just heavy and fusion wise, boring. Desert was supposed to be a chocolate mousse cake but the cake was dry and there wasn't very much mousse...the macha was disgusting on the plate. All in all...a shame that a restaurant can be in business and provide such awful food and service. If I owned it - I'd do a complete overhaul!
We went to Notch8 for DineOut Vancouver and that was our mistake. You don't approach that type of restaurant when they offer a fix-priced menu. The plate itself was well prepared and the food was good (not special) but the table overall was "naked". The waiter was nice and took care of us but didn't present the plates nor was able to answer my questions on some ingredients.
I'd like to try the restaurant on a regular night to see if matches my expectations.
Presentation was over the top let alone the dish.. they were all good or excellent. perfect night for dine out and for me to conclude that i would definitely come back anytime soon.
Food was delicious and well presented. Nice to be served by mature staff who were very well trained
and efficient as well as very engaging. Having dined here previously, Notch 8 never disappoints.
Decor is lovely and live entertainment is an added plus. It is a pleasure to have such a warm and
inviting venue to bring a guest or to gather with friends in the middle of the city. I would not
hesitate to recommend this fine dining establishment, a real gem.
Brandon Smith: improvement needed for his cold attitude towards me when I went in , could not find my name till I showed him my reservation number. Brandon was inefficient when he processed my gift card payment, he as the manager, he should have had better communication with the server Danny to serve me better.
Danny: he could use Tagalog to my friend but he didn't although I understand most Filipinos can speak not bad English with a weird accent. Unlike me I speak perfect English although English is my 2nd language.
Seating: I requested a quiet table but we were sitting next to the entrance with all the traffic. We could have be seated by a nice booth. Poor arrangements.
Dineout Vancouver: I have been to many dineout Vancouver including some Fairmont hotel restaurants like Pacific Rim, or Fairmont YVR, even it's dineout Vancouver but the quality was still high. But at Notch8 quality is lower than other Fairmont hotel restaurants food from their regular menu.
I don't need Brandon and Danny to get fired except they coaching and improvements.
Perfect night, ambiance is perfect, noise level , we were able to talk .
Servers and food at the top.
Went for Dine Out menu.
Not serving any dinner breads. Unlike any other fine dining.
Food is good. But very small portions.
Our server did her job well.
Overall good experience.
I am going to be completely honest about this review. My husband my best friend and I went to go dine here for dine out 2019. I didnt like anything from the dine out menu so I ended up ordering from their actual menu. I ordered the french onion soup and the prime rib. The soup was so salty that I had to send it back. The prime rib was delicious, but again almost was to the too salty level, but just had it anyways as we were all very hungry. My husband and friend ordered the venison entree from the dineout menu. It too was so salty that it had to get sent back. We asked the waitress to try it when going back into the kitchen and also agreed it was way too salty and apologized. My friend didnt want to be rude so he picked at his meal and I shared my prime rib with him (my husband also got some of my meal too because we had to wait for another dish- which was their fish entree... not salty, but not fresh and not tasty at all from what my husband thought.
The restaurant atmosphere was very nice and our server was respectful, professional and wonderful, thus why I would say service was good, but my goodness they need to cut down on the salt. I have read a few other reviews stating how salty the food was for them too so Im thinking this is just how the chefs do it there, but I would never go back and probably would be embarrassed to take anyone there. We are not sensitive to salty foods, but the saltiness of our food made the whole experience not enjoyable at all.
We were very much excited to try Notch 8 for the first time, and unfortunately were not very impressed. We found the appetizer portion to be very small, even for fine dining and slightly cold. The mains were a bit better, still slightly cold and came very quickly back to back with not much time to socialize in between. We had a chocolate mousse with a matcha creation on the side, and it tasted quite plasticy - as if store bought. The best part of the meal was the vanilla ice cream on the side which was delicious... as well as a bottle of the Burrowing Owl which will never dissappoint. The ambiance was nothing special. We very much enjoy beautiful food and a great ambiance within the amazing restaurants Vancouver has to offer, sadly this isnt one of them. Money for value? Better spent somewhere else :(
We came here during dineout. The food was amazing, the arctic char was unbelievably tasty. Presentation was great. However, the overall dinning experience wasn't that great. I'm not sure whether if it's because we didn't order any drinks or what, our server wasn't being rude, but she wasn't being nice either: no smiling, food arrived way before we have our cutlery, (actually our food arrived within 2 minutes of ordering, and we essentially finished all three courses in 45 mins ) generally we felt pretty rushed the whole meal, and the restaurant wasn't even that full! Perhaps this is something we should expect during dineout?
