Our server was fantastic and put my husbands food under the heater because he was walking with the baby. He did a wonderful job giving my mom a birthday surprise! Beautiful restaurant and the manager Mike was amazing too!

I had the brunch menu. The corn bread and crab louie salad were excellent. I also had the single serving of eggs bendict and it was under whelming not only in presentation but taste. Two out of three are not bad!

Not exactly a Vancouver high end restaurant. And yet, just as expensive. $325 for two, including a cocktail each and a mediocre $105 wine from their limited wine list. Tip and taxes also included in the $325.
There were only two red meat selections. My chicken was, well, chicken. Food was good but not excellent. The “OMG Chocolate cake” was fabulous.
This is a hotel restaurant, so I suppose it did live up to our expectations.

My wife and I had dinner here recently for our 35th wedding anniversary. The restaurant knowing that this was a very special occasion for us really looked after us. We were seated at a really nice table in front of the fireplace. We We given a complimentary glass each of prosecco as well as a complimentary dessert. The staff, especially Christian, were very friendly and attentive.

Although the restaurant is a little pricey, overall, we were made to feel very special and had a great dining experience.

Went to notch 8 for anniversary celebration, it
did not meet our standards and it was a bad experience; personally will not go back again as there are many other luxury dining choices in downtown.

We arrived at the restaurant and was brought to our table, overall the decoration and atmosphere was good. The server came and took our drink order and had to come back twice just to tell me the beer I order was not available, which is fine but that took about 20mins. After we were ready to order the food we told the server he said he would be right back. That took about 20-30mins as I saw him rushing to every other table, I wouldnt blame the server as it seemed like one server had to take food+drink order from lots of tables. That was odd as most luxury restaurant would have a seperate server for drink and food. So after one hour of sitting down we finally got to order our food. We ordered the course set meal at $75 with other mains and the prime rib was delicious. Chicken wings were so salty that was not even edible, which I told them and got a new one less salty. It was definitely not the experience I had hoped for at a restaurant this level. And half way through the dinner, out of nowhere one manager came and told us we need to move table as they have this row of table scheduled for a big group. I totally understand in their perspective and wouldve happily moved, but the first manager was extremely unprofessional and the way he said it was like pushing us need to move now and said sorry our employee did not tell you ahead of time without giving us a choice. We were treated two drinks for free by the other manager, but with everything since arriving at this restaurant it was problem after problem. It was the first time I had this kind of bad experience at a up-scale restaurant. I would definitely not go back again and would not recommend to others. There are numerous luxury restaurant in downtown with better service.

I have enjoyed Notch 8 for years. Consistently it’s a balance of food, service and ambience for me.

Today, I went in for my husband’s birthday brunch. I mentioned it during booking, so they knew it was a celebratory time. We ordered. The short ribs were the star, tender and well presented. The salmon toast looked a little underwhelming for the same price.

Service was oddly cold. I think that’s what made my experience lacklustre. Nobody wished my husband happy birthday. Water was not served, we asked for it at the end of our meal. Coffee was borderline warm. I didn’t ask for the bill but the waiter quickly brought it to me, after I said I didn’t have anything to add. I felt rushed. My bill was brought to me, 42 mins after we arrived.

I was hoping to stay, maybe finish my water but I decided to leave with my family. Sometimes, I understand that a turnover is needed during busy times. But Notch 8 had plenty of empty tables.

Fairmont/Notch 8 is usually known for getting all the small details right. Today it was flat b/c it didn’t feel welcoming. That’s a big miss for me.

It's a gorgeous dining room and calm relaxing environment. My only complaint is that they don't have a very good happy hour beer selection. All that have is Labatt Blue and Bud Light. I wouldn't have expected this from such a great restaurant. Seriously they need to think their happy hour beer selections to draw in a larger happy hour crowd.

I love the understated elegance and quiet ambience. But I was not impressed by the food nor service.

The food was very ordinary.
We ordered: Salmon Avocado Toast, Notch8 Potatoes, (Kids) Grilled Cheese with Fries, and Beef Ribs.

Overall, it was a lackluster experience.

Very accommodating, friendly wait staff. Food and wine selection were very good and the food was delicious. Really enjoyed the live music. My one small quibble; all these otherwise top notch (and expensive!) Restaurants seem compelled to have a big screen TV playing sports. Canada, eh?

Notch 8 is much larger than it first appears. We walked through two rooms of diners, were led down some steps and were seated at a cozy table for two in the "library". It was quieter than the main parts of the restaurant which was fine for us as we like to chat during dinner.
Our waitress, Duchess, was very friendly and helpful. The food was quite good. My wife enjoyed her risotto and I had the Notch 8 version of steak frites (pan steak) which was one of the best that I've ever had.
Highly recommend this restaurant for the food, attentive service and ambiance.

Inattentive to orders (two mistakes for a party of two), avoid pastries (small and dry), just okay food otherwise. Staff okay, but not particularly friendly. They miscommunicated when brunch was for the long weekend. Make sure you ask about what (breakfast vs. Brunch) is actually offered and at what time, because it seems subject to change without notice.

The service, ambience and food were all excellent. However, they only have one bathroom for the entire restaurant which is extremely inconvenient. The restaurant seats 50+ people at a time. Poorly designed and a poor decision to think one bathroom would suffice for an entire restaurant. I’m not sure how that’s up to code. When dining here just be ready to wait in an extremely long line for the bathroom.
Also, the cleaning lady was cleaning the bathroom during the brunch buffet which was another decision that was poorly thought out.
