We had an amazing time. Been here before but it had been a while. The menu has changed for the better more vegetarian options and the beet burger was simply delicious. Will be back real soon!
Went to Canteen pre-theatre. Started with cocktails. A flavourless vodka and soda with muddled grapes and a Manhattan served in an ice cue ball that was a challenge to drink. Bring an ice pick or endure a watered-down beverage. Our appetizer of choice was out of stock. The salmon and burger were okay and served hot. The fries were good. Service was slow yet the restaurant was not busy. Hmm. Good news is there are lots of restaurants in the theatre district. Won't be going back to Canteen.
I usually like Canteen, today was okay. This was the first time with the new menu so I tried the Sheppard's Pie. It was okay , the potato was good but the rest needed more substance - lentils were not enough to recreate a vegetarian traditional Sheppard's Pie. I miss some of the vegetarian options on the old menu. The worst part was our server who really seemed to be struggling to be the least bit cordial. He disappeared near the end of our meal and the other staff had to come and help us. The music is usually too loud (I wouldn't call it energetic) but tonight it was manageable, so thank you for that.
The experience was OK
Always good service and food. Great place to meet up before or after a movie or show.
Great spot for a quick bite before Tiff . Fresh ingredients ..grilled salmon was delicious cooked to perfection !
The food has improved and so has the menu. The service was exceptional. I'll still go there when I'm going to see a film.
Everything was great, brussels sprouts are the way to go ! Well done
I gave the service a poor rating.
The reason is that the hostess gave me a table next to the kitchen traffic area even though I had a reservation.
I complained and then got a nice table next to the window.
Message Recieved : “ We don’t really want you at our resto. I will give you a poor table because you are stupid and don’t know the difference. I am saving the better tables for someone who we like better.”
Our actual server however was very good..
This is not the first time that this has happened at your resto.
The place was a convenient location, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to a friend and I will avoid going there.
The service was quick, and the waiter gave us good advice. The food was delicious, and it was also healthier than I can typically find in a restaurant. I will definitely go to the Canteen the next time I’m in the area!
Really appreciated the friendliness and attention of the staff
Delicious food and friendly staff but noisy. Very close to the theatres on King St and a short walk from Union Station for those coming in to the city by GO train. The menu has a good variety of dishes with some unique dishes so it was not “Same old Same old”
I am now a regular at the Canteen. Great place for dinner before a movie. Food is always very good and good value. Staff is incredibly helpful and friendly
We really enjoyed our visit to O&B Canteen before going to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. My granddaughters were able to order something each of them enjoyed...and eggs Benedict first time for one! They were particularly thrilled with the hot apple cider with the star anise and cinnamon stick. We were served promptly and were able to complete our lunch with ample time to leisurely make our way to the theatre. A lovely experience for all!
I was impressed that after we drew our server's attention (Ashton) to our last visit when we both had a bad experience with our Avocado Toast selections that changes had been made. The chef actually asked if my meal was better than the last time since they had changed the toast to something not quite as, in his words, robust. It was excellent. Thanks for listening and making the changes. Our brunch was excellent and the service was just as good! Good job O & B.
Great accommodations made for my larger group, hostess even called to confirm that high-top seating would be OK and that there were no accessibility needs. Great food and lots of good options for vegans.
Great service. Calamari tacos (2 served) were dry any of little taste.
Other dinners were all good.
We loved the vegetarian options. Not your average selection. Delicious. Our server was so knowledgeable and warm!
An excellent pre Mirvish theatre dinner option. Great location and fast service.
Food was good. Lighting was too bright over the tables in the middle of the restaurant floor. Tables by the window had a nicer ambiance.
Everything great except the noise level. Impossible to carry on a conversation across the table. 85dB - that’s dangerous to one’s hearing.
Convenient for BellTIFF attendees although I think it could use some work on the service and the ambience. Salmon Poke was ok, although nothing spectacular. My dinner guest had a sweet potato taco which she enjoyed. Lots of vegetarian options which makes it a good choice.
We were staying at the hotel down the street and ended up having lunch there everyday and dinner once. Always great. The staff is amazing. One take out lunch didn’t contain the salmon I ordered. I told the staff at dinner and they bent over backwards to make us happy. They were fabulous. Great vibe and great food!!
Great dinner before enjoying a special screening at TIFF Lightbox. Ambience is great, informal, open, and friendly. Server was fantastic. Menu very creative with something for every taste, dietary need and preference.
It was really good for dinner. Both our meals was delicious.Only negative point was our table was a bit cramped,we had to lift the table and moved it over so the girl next to us could get.
Great location, decent food, reasonable prices for food & drinks, in a fairly noisy restaurant. The one major flaw was that the service was extremely rushed, and it really felt like they wanted to ‘turn the table”. Probably won’t return.
Great Spot for dinner. Service was prompt. Reservations are recommended as some folks who arrived after us had to wait. Imaginative cocktails and food that changes with seasons. Will be back later this month for an encore.
Superb food and ambience.
always seems to be good value and great menu selections
Enjoyed the cappuccino and biscotti at the end of the meal. Server was a bit abrupt.
Good place to grab a bite before the TIFF movie. Menu varied enough for everyone.
Very limited selection on the Sunday menu
Ordered Mac and Cheese with the meat in it
Way to heavy and extremely large portion that both my daughter and I could not finish
We asked for dessert we were limited to a cookie or a muffin
Kids menu should come with drink option.
Disappointed have eaten at other O& B in Bayview Village and Collingwood which were great
Surely you do a better job at this location
Horrific lack of lighting for the perimeter tables - like eating in a subway tunnel
Canteen is a great spot pre-theatre. Portions are on the small side - diners with larger appetites will want to order something like their delicious burger and fries, or reuben sandwich, which come with fries and are a little more filling. The pasta dishes are delicious, but small. Service is wonderful - you can tell that the staff is carefully selected and well trained.
I see you call your highest noise level “energetic”. I just call it annoying and frustrating when I can’t even hear what my friend is saying across the table. I like the convenience of your restaurant but there are many restaurants in the area and this is the second less than stellar experience I have had at O&B. Too crowded (too many tables crammed in together), too noisy, and the service was poor the last two times. On Tuesday, I asked for more hot water for my tea, and my friend asked for tea. After 30 minutes someone came to confirm that we had ordered hot water and tea, and after another wait a server brought my teapot back with hot water but had added my friend’s order of camomile tea bag into my teapot, and nothing for my friend. Finally I got my tea with a new teabag (which I had originally just asked for more hot water added to my original teabag) and my friend did get her camomile tea. I’m surprised after that that my friend was charged for her tea. I was not charged as I had not ordered a fresh teabag, just hot water. Very disappointing. Two weeks ago my friends and I ate there before the theatre. My friend had to send back her dinner as it was very poor. In short, nothing about O&B is so exceptional that would make me want to return any time soon. I have eaten there quite often but time for a change I think.
This restaurant is in a great location for the pre theatre crowd. Place was bustling. Interesting drink and food selections. Our food was delicious and service excellent. Will dine again!!
Exceptional hosting and service. Flavorful and interesting food choices. Always on my short list.
The service was very good and our food came out super fast. We really enjoy our entrees as suggested by manager, Ben. The short rib was so tender and juicy and the salmon was grilled to perfection. Very good dining experience tonight!
Great staff, food and efficient service with a smile!
Great service, delicious food, a great find. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
