Enjoyed as a great spot before theatre. Very friendly and relaxed.
Disappointing that the restaurant didn't have GF bread available, especially as I have frequented the location before and it has been available. They did have other GF options though for diners.
Grilled Salmon was delicious, amazing service. Will go back there soon
My Salad Nicoise was not great; however the beet short rib my husband ordered was excellent.
The menu has changed; I liked in better before. The menu was too limited and the portions were small.
Also the sangria has grapefruit juice in it, and unless we asked we wouldn't have known. A lot of people cannot have grapefruit juice because it interferes with their medication, so it should be listed on the menu.
Portions were too smal, menu limited and repetitive. Best is the taco calamari
We have been to the O &B Canteen several times and it is consistently excellent. Service is thorough, friendly and professional and the food is great.
We asked for a window table and got it as requested. The server was delightful - friendly and efficient.
The food was excellent. It is not a quiet venue so we did have trouble hearing one another but the convenience of the location after seeing a movie and the menu made it all worthwhile.
Interesting and tasty food close to concert halls and theaters. Our server was excellent. Great value.
Our server was very friendly and understanding. The food took a long time to come to our table and our server took a long time to check up on our table. We ordered the poutine where they tried to get fancy with the gravy but it just altered the core taste of a poutine and not for the better. We got garlic shrimp on the side that looked and tasted as if someone took shrimp from a shrimp ring and cooked it. It was inedible. We also ordered the calamari tacos. If you're calling it calamari then it needs to be crispy and a nice coating...this was barely coated, rubbery and the flavour didn't match the corn tortilla. We had to send all of it back and because it took so long for the food all we ended up eating was a plate of fries. The short rib mac and cheese however was delightful.
I took some visitors from England there and we all raved about the food. Service was friendly and efficient. Complimentary appetizers were a plus as was the fact that we could have a conversation and hear each other! We will be back for sure.
My eggs benedict were cold...and for the price it is totally unacceptable. Hard to find an accessible place for Sunday brunch. Will not go back. My husband enjoyed his burger
Wait staff seemed a bit over worked. Had to ask for coffee refill. Waiter and/or kitchen forgot to give me the smoked salmon eggs benedict versus the ham. Was corrected quickly, though.
Millennials only... please give me a restaurant without weird names for food, with good old fashioned GOOD food? Flakey names do not a meal make.
Handicap accessibility was good. Reception staff excellent. Waitress good. Smoked salmon eggs Benedict was good. Strawberry and rhubarb dessert was not good especially @ $9.00 plus tax. Meringue was not good.
My friend Violet and were seeing a show at SecondCity that evening and went to Canteen to dine beforehand. I'd been there before, she hadn't, and I chose it for its proximity to the venue and because I remembered the food was good! Thankfully, we were NOT disappointed.
Ginny was our server, and she was exceptional! She was friendly, knowledgable and answered all our questions, being sure to note and clarify on our dietary needs. She came to check on us throughout our time there, but was unobtrusive, which was appreciated.
We didn't have to wait long for our meals to arrive, and the food was delicious, with good size portions for the prices. There are a number of vegetarian choices as well, and our experience was so good, we will definitely return and have been telling friends about it.
Thanks again to Ginny. Keep doing what you're doing, your managers are fortunate to have you on staff :)
Service very slow though place was only about 1/3 full within an hour of us sitting down. Heavy grease smell in the air. Steak for kids grisly and tough. Broccoli bland and limp. And the place is not cheap
Ordered the jerk chicken. The dish was full of very small, fine chicken bones which I needed to constantly pick off or spit out. We had to swat at fruit flies the entire time. It was a really hot and humid day which is why we opted to sit indoors. But there was no AC, doors were wide open and we were sweating by the end of the meal. We were served only one glass of water with our meal. Food is extremely overpriced for what it is. Definitely not going back.
good restaurant for pre theater dining in busy theatre district in Toronto
I always enjoy it here. Service and food are very good /excellent. Very noisy during the dinner hour, a bit difficult for conversation. I always ask for a table by the window as we do not like being at the tables set separately in the middle of everything. Each time we get there they have assigned us a badly located table, even though I request a window table in the reservation. But they are always gracious in finding us a more appropriately located table. It is a very busy restaurant and I do appreciate the restaurant’s regard for their bottom line - but in my opinion and experience there are too many tables jammed into the space and that does take away from the enjoyment of the dining experience. I think in future I will try to dine there at other than peak times.
Food was great, numerous vegetarian and gluten free options.
Meal was tasty, but too expensive for portion size.
Canteen is my go-to for all get togethers, especially out of town friends. Great food guaranteed, location is fantastic and the vibe is fun casual but feels grown up. Love Canteen! They change up their menus so I never get bored. Been for brunch and dinner and I'm impressed by both.
We visit Toronto quite often and a meal at O&B is always on the agenda...wonderful service, good food (selection and imagination) and ambience...And I have worked out THREE of the t-shirts slogans
Made a lunch reservation, weekday for out of town relatives for lunch. It wasn’t overly busy and although we were inside, so much light it felt like we were inside. Excellent vegetarian options alongside jerk chicken and other meat options; also great desserts, have the carrot cake ! Good downtown choice that felt casually elegant enough but not stuffy or fussy. I recommend it.
Went for Summerlicious 2018 dinner.
I inquired about the Vietnamese Ginger Beef Noodle Bowl regarding the broth as I have a seafood allergy, and I was puzzled when our server let us know that after she checked the “label”, that there could be trace amounts of seafood. I was disappointed that the restaurant, specifically an O & B chain, didn’t make the broth from scratch, and that they ran out of two of the feature desserts, Upside-down Peach Muffin and the Lemon Square. They did offer an optional dessert choice from their regular menu. Overall the food and service were good.
Very nice experience and affordable. I went with my children and they like it as well
Overall poor experience in all aspects
The Canteen offers a very reasonable 3-course dinner fo3 33 $ ("Summerlicious"). Everything was very delicious particularly the green gazpacho and the fish taco. We like the service and will definitely come back.
Overall experience was good. I had the Winterlicious menu. Falafel appetizer was dry. Salmon main was very tasty, except asparagus was disappointingly overcooked and hard to eat. Mousse dessert was delicious. It was super busy; maybe consider more serving staff, as service was a bit slow at points.
The food here is delicious and well prepared. Service is warm and friendly - while still being efficient. Now serving a Summerlicious three course menu that’s really fun.
Tried summerlicious dinner and every item was bad - falafel was bitter, gnocchi was burnt and felt frozen (they replaces it with grain bowl which was ok), dark chocolate mousse was yogurt with bad cocoa powder - which burned my throat and stomach all night. I ate it to be polite but should have left it. I will never return.
Service was quite slow, had to follow-up on order a few times.
While the ambiance (we sat outside) and service were very good, the food was disappointing. We had a "Summerlicious" three course meal. My starter, a green gazpacho, was outstanding but the main course was awful and the desert only so-so. My husband's main course was stone cold and he sent it back. The meal was a big disappointment on our anniversary. Luckily the show we went to see afterwards made up for it!
I ordered the Chop Salad and other than greens there was literally no other ingredients. Very disappointing
Super friendly service. Delicious food. A happy place to spend some relaxation time.
The restaurant was nice. Hip and cool without trying too hard. I enjoyed all the food I ate on the summerlicious menu - my only dislike was that the tahini sauce that came with the falafel app was too thick. The restaurant didn’t seem busy but it took around 20 mins for our first course to get to us but our server checked up on us to apologize for the wait which I appreciate. All in all a good experience and I would go back.
both salmon entrees were overcooked - i didn't bother to complain b/c we didn't have time. it tasted fine but too firm.
drink order sat on bar counter until i asked a server to bring it. drinks came after appetizers were served
we were never offered refill of ice-water on a very hot evening
dessert was fine - weird serving of mousse in jar was hard to share.
Had dinner before the show at Royal Alex. Enjoyed the Summerlicious menu choices. Food was very tasty and server was attentive and very pleasant. Enjoyed the dinner immensely.
Food was very good, portions on the small side. Wine and beer selections were quite limited. Very good for gluten free options including french fries which is a real treat.
