Grab & Go Hours:
Service very slow though place was only about 1/3 full within an hour of us sitting down. Heavy grease smell in the air. Steak for kids grisly and tough. Broccoli bland and limp. And the place is not cheap
good restaurant for pre theater dining in busy theatre district in Toronto
I always enjoy it here. Service and food are very good /excellent. Very noisy during the dinner hour, a bit difficult for conversation. I always ask for a table by the window as we do not like being at the tables set separately in the middle of everything. Each time we get there they have assigned us a badly located table, even though I request a window table in the reservation. But they are always gracious in finding us a more appropriately located table. It is a very busy restaurant and I do appreciate the restaurant’s regard for their bottom line - but in my opinion and experience there are too many tables jammed into the space and that does take away from the enjoyment of the dining experience. I think in future I will try to dine there at other than peak times.
Food was great, numerous vegetarian and gluten free options.
Meal was tasty, but too expensive for portion size.
Canteen is my go-to for all get togethers, especially out of town friends. Great food guaranteed, location is fantastic and the vibe is fun casual but feels grown up. Love Canteen! They change up their menus so I never get bored. Been for brunch and dinner and I'm impressed by both.
We visit Toronto quite often and a meal at O&B is always on the agenda...wonderful service, good food (selection and imagination) and ambience...And I have worked out THREE of the t-shirts slogans
Made a lunch reservation, weekday for out of town relatives for lunch. It wasn’t overly busy and although we were inside, so much light it felt like we were inside. Excellent vegetarian options alongside jerk chicken and other meat options; also great desserts, have the carrot cake ! Good downtown choice that felt casually elegant enough but not stuffy or fussy. I recommend it.
Went for Summerlicious 2018 dinner.
I inquired about the Vietnamese Ginger Beef Noodle Bowl regarding the broth as I have a seafood allergy, and I was puzzled when our server let us know that after she checked the “label”, that there could be trace amounts of seafood. I was disappointed that the restaurant, specifically an O & B chain, didn’t make the broth from scratch, and that they ran out of two of the feature desserts, Upside-down Peach Muffin and the Lemon Square. They did offer an optional dessert choice from their regular menu. Overall the food and service were good.
Very nice experience and affordable. I went with my children and they like it as well
Overall poor experience in all aspects
The Canteen offers a very reasonable 3-course dinner fo3 33 $ ("Summerlicious"). Everything was very delicious particularly the green gazpacho and the fish taco. We like the service and will definitely come back.
Overall experience was good. I had the Winterlicious menu. Falafel appetizer was dry. Salmon main was very tasty, except asparagus was disappointingly overcooked and hard to eat. Mousse dessert was delicious. It was super busy; maybe consider more serving staff, as service was a bit slow at points.
The food here is delicious and well prepared. Service is warm and friendly - while still being efficient. Now serving a Summerlicious three course menu that’s really fun.
Tried summerlicious dinner and every item was bad - falafel was bitter, gnocchi was burnt and felt frozen (they replaces it with grain bowl which was ok), dark chocolate mousse was yogurt with bad cocoa powder - which burned my throat and stomach all night. I ate it to be polite but should have left it. I will never return.
Service was quite slow, had to follow-up on order a few times.
While the ambiance (we sat outside) and service were very good, the food was disappointing. We had a "Summerlicious" three course meal. My starter, a green gazpacho, was outstanding but the main course was awful and the desert only so-so. My husband's main course was stone cold and he sent it back. The meal was a big disappointment on our anniversary. Luckily the show we went to see afterwards made up for it!
I ordered the Chop Salad and other than greens there was literally no other ingredients. Very disappointing
Super friendly service. Delicious food. A happy place to spend some relaxation time.
The restaurant was nice. Hip and cool without trying too hard. I enjoyed all the food I ate on the summerlicious menu - my only dislike was that the tahini sauce that came with the falafel app was too thick. The restaurant didn’t seem busy but it took around 20 mins for our first course to get to us but our server checked up on us to apologize for the wait which I appreciate. All in all a good experience and I would go back.
both salmon entrees were overcooked - i didn't bother to complain b/c we didn't have time. it tasted fine but too firm.
drink order sat on bar counter until i asked a server to bring it. drinks came after appetizers were served
we were never offered refill of ice-water on a very hot evening
dessert was fine - weird serving of mousse in jar was hard to share.
Had dinner before the show at Royal Alex. Enjoyed the Summerlicious menu choices. Food was very tasty and server was attentive and very pleasant. Enjoyed the dinner immensely.
Food was very good, portions on the small side. Wine and beer selections were quite limited. Very good for gluten free options including french fries which is a real treat.
Summerliscious special seemed pretty small plates. We were there fo 2 hrs that should have been 1 hr. Food was decent but not outstanding. They forgot the sauce on the beef noodle dish. Not likely to return anytime soon
The food was great. Unfortunately the service was awful. Could not get our servers attention once the order was taken. An hour after getting my first glass of wine I stopped her to ask for another and it never came.
Summerlicious before theatre was great! Doors open for a nice breeze inside
Our server was difficult to track down and sent the wrong dessert home with us, it was not a very pleasant experience.
Appetizer and entree were good, chocolate mousse was terrible. Server was excellent despite it being Summerlicious.
The Canteen is our #1 choice to go to before each symphony. We always enjoy the new, varied and creative menus. The young people serving are always a "10", pleasant, knowledgeable, sincere and professionally trained. We also enjoy Summer/Winterlious events...........keep doing what you are doing. Location, menu variety/excellence and ambiance make Canteen a Toronto winner!
Completely enjoyed our lunch at O&B before attending Come From Away on June 28. Quickly seated and served, and finished our meal with 20 minutes for the leisurely walk to the Royal Alex. Have eaten there before, but not with these friends, who were completely satisfied with the experience.
My husband and friend enjoyed the spicy tomato soup , the jerk chicken and the shrimp spaghetti. I on the other hand tried your burger. Even with all the toppings the beef was tasteless and had to add lots of salt for flavour. I thought the place would be a little more special than it was. We had lunch there before the Royal Alex production.
The waitress was very nice but I would not recommend this restaurant. I guess the name Canteen should have told me.
Overall great experience. The waiter checked with us immediately to see if we were going to the theatre and what time our show started. Great beginning except the GE sort of disappeared! We managed to get served and made it to the theatre on time but the experience was not as relaxed as it could have been.
A great place to garb a bite before Books on Film..good menu chioics, great servicde
Came to celebrate a special occasion. Staff made us feel welcome and made great effort to take special care of us even tough it was busy night for them. The Mexican Street Salad was exceptional - the presentation beautiful, the blend of spices delicious. Our steaks were cooked perfectly. Highly recommend you to try it if you haven’t been yet!
Fun dinner was seated immediately. Lots of choices for my vegan daughter. Noise level very high as all areas of restaurant are hard surfaces and the noise rebounds as well as traffic noise.
Able to talk and hear fine.
They make a really nice Caesar salad! Nice balance of flavours and not at all too garlicky.
We came for lunch on a Saturday afternoon thinking that both the brunch menu and the regular menu would be available. The brunch was the only menu available, but the staff were very accommodating and made it possible to order a couple of things from the regular menu to accommodate my friend who is vegan.
I've been here several times before and it's an energetic place with good menu.
Nobody on desk for several minutes and then took a while to find my reservation.
Busy but staff managing flow of orders with pleasant service.
Steak done as ordered.
Doors left open with AC on. I love to go inside for cool air but this wss a waste of resources.
Tables too close together that made a problem getting in and out of seat without disturbing things on neighbouring tracks.
They could improve but they'll get business anyway so they probably won't bother.
WHERE IS THE PIZZA?!?!? I made the reservation for my dad and I solely because you made my favorite pizza in the city and it's GONE. What we had was yummy but I was super bummed. You guys had a good thing (and there's still pizza photos on your website btw:))
Congrats to TIFF. You have it all. Great space and fab little spot for a reasonably price meal with a fun vibe. Staff is excellent.
