this is a fabulous sunday brunch, something for everyone. The best scones that i have had in years.
[SUNDAY BRUNCH] After hearing about the legendary Old Mill for many years, I was there for Sunday Brunch with a friend visiting from abroad. I regret it coz she deserves much better. Everything is less than I expected. Super crowded, food not up to par with price, and it's awfully dark inside.
Parking is available just across the street with reasonable fee $2/hr. A staff checked us in on a tablet, done in just seconds. Our table was wobbling, but our waiter came for rescue before we even noticed (Thanks Allan!) He's very helpful and attentive throughout our meal.
THE BIGGEST problem is the lighting. It's just DARK!! Buffet area was a bit better, still lacking, but dinning area was horribly lit. It's even worst coz my seat was facing windows from a far so my friend was back-lit. I couldn't even see her face clearly. The bright sunlight from outside and the darkness at table area created an extreme contrast of brightness. Every time I moved my head it took a while for the eyes to adapt. At times, I didn't know what's on my fork but just put it in my mouth anyway. Come to think of it, I finally understand why I can only find a few photos online when researching. It's strange coz most people likes taking pictures of food nowadays, but I couldn't find any at Sunday brunch (most from afternoon tea). It's too dark for taking pictures.
Food variety is alright, so as taste and quality. But it feels more like homemade style buffet than from restaurant (not to mention hotel). It's absolutely not up to par with $39 high price. I'd say $19.99 max. My whole dinning experience didn't even come close to causal family buffet places like Frankie's Tomato, Dragon Legend, or even Mandarin.
If you only heard of this place and have never actually eaten here, you can still try, but don't do Sunday Brunch. By the reviews and photos I saw, I imagine afternoon tea is more "reliable".
Good - Parking, exterior/outdoor, people
Fair - Food variety/quality, atmosphere
Bad - LIGHTING, PRICE
Very much enjoyed our experience. Service was a little slow. There seemed to be a delay in receiving our entree. Had to ask where the washrooms were. There was a larger party who were not mindful of sharing the dining room with other guests.
The food variety is less. Since the inn is quite dark, so for having buffet which is supposed family friendly，doesn't fit the ambiance. In overall, it's not kid friendly, cos giving us terror feeling in evening. However, I know Old Inn provide brunch and afternoon tea. So I think it would be better than having buffet dinner there, cos it's daytime and actually the Old Inn has beautiful nature view around.
Open patio very pretty but the inside is looking tired. Salad bar and desserts good. Hot food terrible, very disappointed. Probably will not be back. We used to love it.
Everything about the experience was great, except for the lingering smell of gas which gave me discomfort at times.
In town visiting family and chose this place for the historic building and proximity to river paths for a walk after the ample lunch buffet. Service was top notch; not intrusive and not rushed even though we dined past 2PM. The banana foster tart was a highlight and I'm still dreaming of it several days later.
Excellent, dining experience experience. So many good, quality buffet dishes to choose from for a very fair $ price. The decor is superb and the service for friendly and considerate.
Possibly...Would like more choices on the buffet. Choices were a bit basic but desserts were good.
Perhaps more seafood
Food was not the best. Our table was slanted and not strong - one part kept breaking.
Shrimp should be peeled and larger waffles should be soft all the ones we had we could not even cut them with a knife never mind eat them you should have a station that makes omelettes you should bring back lobsters and crab legs
Always enjoyable...........a bit disappointed no to be able to sit in the sunroom, but not the end of the world.
I love the place for their lovely brunch. There are many delicious options.
Was there inquiring about banquet facilities. Decided to stay for lunch. Glad we did as we decided not to book a function there as the food was of poor quality.
Decided to try the summerlicious for my husbands birthday. Great options and food was delicious. Service was fantastic and was surprised with an on the house dessert for my husband. Will come back again
Service was good. Not outstanding but ok.
Food was not tasty at all- the summer salad lacked dressing I mean I don't want my salad swimming in dressing but the salad was just so bland. Then comes the buddha bowl which didn't have any taste at all!!! I am not even sure why it was included in the menu.
This is were we got married so I thought it would be nice to celebrate our anniversary but the food was terrible. I was very disappointed.
We had a Fabulous Family Fun Time. I will definitely bring my family again to the Old Mill.
The food was refilled promptly, but the overall food variety was not impressive. If they can add fresh made omelette, soup, it will add more value to the brunch.
Amazing buffet selection
Service was fantastic
Beautiful location and garden
Many of us who came for dinner have eaten at the Old Mill many times, some even got married there. SO we thought, why not visit here for Summerlicious. We were all very disappointed. The waiter was abrupt, did not say hello and welcome us to dinner. Water, drinks and bread was not offered while waiting for the rest of the party to arrive. We all had streak, except one and were not asked how we wanted it done, mine was "blue" and sent it back. Took a long time before he came to check on our meals. We were not asked if we wanted separate cheques and when one bill didn't not have a coffee on it, he came over and said rudely, "someones bill is missing a coffee, whose is it." There are better ways to approach it. We split the tip with the table and when we were done he complained out loud what a lousy tip it was, three times. Unprofessional, good waiters get good tips. Food- appetizers were bland, salads weren't finished. Main meal was okay but veggie medley was soggy. Desserts were very good-saving grace. Cocktail drinks were nothing special and very expensive, $15 for ketel vodka with pear juice and soda (or something) is definitely not worth it. The other drinks, the waiter had to go ask if they could even make it, if it's on their regular menu, you would hope they could. Also $14 for something that resembled a Mojito (which is wasn't supposed to be) is too expensive. Never mind $3.25 for a small cup of black coffee? Yikes, could have gone to Starbucks for less. Unfortunately, not our best Summerlicious experience and we've gone and tried many restaurants over the years.
The summerlicious menu sounded like it might be good but wasn’t. Food that should’ve been spiced was bland. I would not recommend it for summerlicious. The building itself is interesting, service was ok.
The reason for the celebration was an adult birthday which I specified when I initially made the reservation. There was no indication that this was acknowledged. Is there a proper procedure to follow for future reference?
Exceptional service and food here. Recommend everyone to try it if you never been here.
The place has become a bit "dated", a bit musty. I find it totally overpriced. And to be honest, the food isn't "all that". For those prices you should be able to come up with more interesting menu items. Just an example....a literal bunch of lettuce and 3 little mounds of prosciutto with ceasar dressing? That shouldn't cost any more than $5.00 at the most. If you're charging for the "ambiance" of the pretty gardens in an old tudor style inn, than just charge a cover fee.
It was a great way to start your day. Next time we’ll try the afternoon tea
Overall good, unfortunately warm foods were not that tasty. Service was good.
great place to celebrate birthday, anniversary etc... a bit pricy though
1. Food should be replenished more often with bowls sitting there nearly empty.
2. The lady washroom was awful with people not flushing it and with puddle on the floor. I have never experienced it in a 'classy' restaurant.
This was my first buffet at the Old Mill. It was for Father's Day and as expected very busy. Considering it is a buffet, I was surprised to see servers were not clearing tables very quickly. We weren't asked if we wanted a second drink, coffee, tea, and I had to ask for the bill after sitting at the table with a dirty plate and an empty glass for some time.
It wasn't awful but I don't think I'll be back for a buffet. Also, the food stations are very close to each other and it's difficult to move around with that many people.
The food was delicious.
Dingy place with dirty old carpets that need to be replaced. Washrooms are old and need updating. The ham was delicious, pasta and salmon were tasteless. Very mediocre. I would not go there again. Very over rated. The service was excellent. Even the Mandarin was better and cleaner. I was very disappointed. The whole place needs to be cleaned out. Dirty.
This was our fourth (and final) visit for Father’s Day Brunch. For an 11 am seating the dining room was full and it was necessary to wait in line a long line for the buffet. Every year we have felt more and more crowded. The salads were delicious and fresh; however, when you finally reached the hot food it was ‘acceptable’ but no different from your average cafeteria style food. Disappointingly, the desserts were the worst we have ever seen at a buffet. We are sad that we will not return because we did look forward to this outing every year.
We were very disappointed with our experience with Father's Day brunch at the Old Mill. We reserved about two months early, we requested a round table with a nice view for 10 people. We arrived and the message was relayed that our request was being granted. Only to find out, that the table was given out to someone else and we were seated in an older room looking out to a wall. Very over priced for what we received. Very disappointed.
Great spread for brunch! And excellent service
It was excellent!
Excellent dining experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The setting is classical and pleasant, and the food was delicious.
I've been to the Old Mill for afternoon tea, which isn't that stellar for the cost.
This time I went for the brunch buffet and was blown away at the quality of the food for the price. Especially for someone following a keto diet, there were many options to have without feeling like you were left out. The only thing I would change would be the chocolate fountain. Dark chocolate goes so much better with strawberries than milk chocolate...
food quality and selection less than the value. we paid more
Servers and food were very good. However we were disappointed that they started taking the food away when several tables were still having lunch and not finished. I had to scramble to grab some fruit with a spoon (serving cutlery had already been removed) before they took the tray away. All the mains and salads were gone too. Very inappropriate given that it was during Babies at Lunch, which means parents take so much more time to be able to eat their meal given that they have to take care of feeding the babies first, doing diaper changes, etc.
we were so impressed with everything about our brunch, no complaints!
