I enjoyed the presentation , the quality of food and variety.
Some of the desserts were too sweet and less quality then I had previously.
The food was not worth the price. The food did not taste that great.
Very friendly, attentive and efficient staff. Great atmosphere. Room is beautiful with high ceilings and tables nicely set. Wonderful selection of salads, soup, main courses, desserts and fruit. Our party did not feel rushed and we ended up staying for 3 hours. Definitely would return.
Excellent dining experience. Delicious food. Awesome selection.
The Ukrainian Christmas buffet at Old Mill surpassed my expectations! Impressive abundance and variety, and everything was fresh and flavourful. The seafood station was a standout especially the salmon with a thai sauce and mussels with honey mustard sauce. The white balsamic salad dressing was so yummy I was scooping it up with a spoon! I don't think I have ever done that before. ;) Other favourites were the kompot, borshch, mushroom gravy, sauerkraut varenyky and prime rib. The desserts were also outstanding especially the yule log, chocolate mousse, nut tart and bread pudding. I will definitely return.
There was so much variety on the buffet it was hard to choose! We were fortunate to sit in the terrace room which was bright, inviting and perhaps quieter and more spacious than the main room. The staff were very pleasant and organized.
We came to the Old Mill on New Years Day for dinner. We were previously there a few years ago. This time we were extremely disappointed with the food. Roast beef was extremely red with blood running out of it. Made me sick. Needed to be cooked a lot more! Lamb was exptremely spicy. Was not worth the money I spent. Very disappointed and will not be returning.
Great service from pre-dining (phone conversation) to dining... all 5-star services. Foods are normal but the dining room and the service are good.
Didn’t disappoint...as always food is delicious and the restaurant is so beautiful. Highly recommend for brunch.
No Prime Rib Roast beef on offer. Very disappointing considering price paid for the buffet. Buffet much better in past years.
It's such a beautiful place to have dinner with friends. The building itself is a treasure.
The food is always delicious and presented nicely.
As always, the Old Mill never disappoints; incredible food, unmatchable ambience and royal service! It’s a special place for my family as my wife and I had our wedding reception here, however, it’s like our first time there every time we go.
Very bad experience at the old mills Christmas buffet. It was the worst experience I have never had. It was like a community centre free dinner
The items on the buffet could have been faster replenished.
Christmas dinner buffet was very good - wide selection, frequently replenished which kept everything nice and fresh.
Good service to remnove dishes and replenish drinks.
Very well done
Very busy on Christmas Day, but we found a quiet seating location, yet still clearly heard the carolers.
This was our first experience at the Old Mill on Christmas day. We had heard about the great food and ambience and I guess we set our expectations quite high. We had a 6 o’clock reservation. When we got there we were told to go down four flights of stairs to a sub basement. There was no elevator. My husband has trouble walking and we were told that they could take us down thru the kitchen. I was very amazed that they couldn’t accommodate a disabled person other than going through the kitchen. That was not something that I nor my husband desired to do.
Getting into the banquet hall was like entering a food court at the Eaton Center. The noise level was unbelievable. Carollers were virtually unheard. When we were finally able to get to the food, the choices were very minimal. They just couldn’t seem to keep up with refilling the trays. The salads were few and far between. The main dishes were unappetizing and the desserts were well picked over. All in all it was a disappointment. For a place that seemingly has a very good reputation I felt that the Christmas buffet was just a hogfest. With the food not being replaced on a consistent basis it felt like we were all grabbing at anything that came out. It took over 25 minutes to get our bill due to them not being able to find a slip of paper. The serving staff were all lovely ladies who were very apologetic when we asked for water, a salt shaker, coffee and the bill.
When we left the 7 o’clock seating was getting ready to go in however the lineup was unbelievable. It was already 7:20 and we could barely exit with the crowd of people on the stairs and the small waiting area. All I could think of was “hope there isn’t an emergency as we would get out”.
The description of the restaurant on the website and the reviews suggested something very different than what we experienced. It was a huge noisy, crowded room with both piped in music and carolers at the same time. The servers seemed frantic and scattered. It took forever to even get water. Tables and chairs were being carried on and out of the room throughout the evening. It was more like going to a mess hall at camp than having a Christmas dinner. Won’t make this mistake again.
Very disappointing for Christmas dinner. The service was non existent, no one to greet us as we sat at the table. We sat for maybe 10 min before I got up to look for a server to at least get some water. Finally, got some water then some time later a server came over and asked if we had selected some wine, except no one had given us a wine list. We then proceeded to the buffet. No white meat just dark available at the time.
The appetizers were very nice. If the restaurant had bothered to hire more help, we would have had a cocktail before dinner as I'm sure others would as well.
This was certainly not like a traditional home cooked Christmas dinner but rather a mass production event with little thought for authenticity.
Beautiful place to spend a Christmas dinner with family! Food was fabulous and service was really good.
Drinks from the bar are very over priced- Ceasers and Mimosas were $12 and $14 for very small glasses. But that was the only negative thing!
We went for the Christmas buffet service beginning at 1:30 p.m. The selection on the buffet was outstanding - there was so much stuff that I didn't even get to have some of everything before I was too full to put any more in my piehole. We were seated in an upstairs room where it was much less crowded and much quieter. The lower level was much more busy and louder. While being upstairs meant having to go up and down to get to and from the food it also meant that I didn't have people bumping into my chair/table on their way to and from the buffet. The downstairs area seemed much more festive though. You have to base your assessment on what you want and don't want on your visit. The wait staff was attentive to my needs and I didn't want for anything. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Thank you Old Mill chefs and staff. Excellent job.
We went to the Old Mill on Christmas Day expecting a Christmas meal. Failure! The plates were cold the vegetables, mashed potatoes, green beans and carrots, not a roasted vegetable to be seen. I asked for a slice of ham and got a 2" by 2" lump of fat and gristle. The Christmas pudding tasted fine, the texture a bit strange, the sauce was excellent but cold. My family enjoyed the fish table. All in all a most unappealing meal, and one which will not be repeated.
Occasion - Christmas. Put us in the Brûlée Room which was very large and was like a huge dance hall. Very loud and not homey at all. Never the way I remember the intimate setting at the old mill dining room. Dinner line ups were too long turkey stuffing was horrible. There was no squash or peas. Not sure whether they were trying replicate plum pudding but it was sure terrible. No Christmas cake, . No brandy sauce for pudding. No minced meat tarts. Deserts were not appropriate for Christmas.
Wait staff did not want to give us separate bills. We ordered a bottle of wine and they simply dropped the bottle of wine on the table and walked off. I’m not why I gave them a good tip. I guess I did because it was Christmas.
Enjoyed the meal, but it was chaotic and disorganized We were at table 39 which was next to the kitchen and the staff were always standing in groups talking close to our table. Trying to decide if we will go back next year.
Christmas Day was magical you felt like you had stepped back in time the atmosphere was warm and inviting, christmas carollers dressed in period costume was the finishing touch.
We arrived early and were seated immediately, we were having brunch, our table had no complaints over the food. Although it was busy the sound level was low. All in all an experience to repeat.
Food was OK.
Service was good.
Nice Christmas Day 2019 Buffet
Overall the experience was great although when asked if there is a mobility issue and the answer is yes, then you should be seated accordingly by the ramp not in the centre of the room to make the buffet accessible
We were placed in their main hall and not the restaurant. It was like sitting in a wedding. The restaurant is what they are known for (cozy & warm feeling). The meat was over cooked to the point that the beef was very chewy. The seafood was very nice as was the rest of the hot food. The desserts were "Okay" and nothing worth mentioning.
I like the Old Mill and have enjoyed many brunches at the dinning room. However, today we were seated in the Brule Room C and my family and I did not like it at all. The table and chairs were very cheap. The room can benefit from better lighting. The food was good.
We were placed in a banquet hall, which was not what we expected. We would have had a better time in a Swiss chalet, which we would never go to. Very disappointing.
Christmas dinner was always a tradition at Old Mill and ever year gets busier. Unfortunately quality of the food and selections have declined over time. A beautiful venue nevertheless and a lot of room for guests as they have multiple rooms for the event
The perfect Christmas Eve buffet we could have imagined. They kindly placed us at a table for two at the balcony which is a very cute spot overseeing the main dinning area.
We were there for the Christmas Eve dinner (buffet). Although the place was quite full, our table was ready when we got there.
We don’t have a single bad thing to comment about the dinner, everything was amazing: food options, taste, presentation, temperature... everything.
I wasn’t really expecting to be this good, it easily exceeded our expectations.
It’s difficult to comment about the service when you are in a buffet, since you don’t really need assistance from your waiter/waitress too often, but they did ok. It was a bit difficult to get the check, they said only one person was handling the bills and because the place was full it took well over 10 minutes for the check to arrive. We didn’t stress too much and didn’t change our perception of the place.
Will definitely go back and recommend others to try.
Terrible Christmas eve dinner
The Old Mill for Christmas Eve dinner was great! We loved everything from the food, decor, carolers, etc... My husband and I frequently visit the Old Mill for Sunday brunch and other events. However we were disappointed with how our reservation was handled. We received a phone call 9 days after the initial reservation was made on open table and were told that our Christmas Day reservations were being cancelled due to an over booking because of a glitch with the system. Not ideal, but we would have understood had we received a phone call within a day or two but over a week later, not okay! We had to completely rearrange our schedule with family and friends to accommodate a new date.
Food was good. Lots of variety. Roast beef was excellen! We got seated at the back in a small room with other 3 family friendly guests which was okay with us. We would prefer closer to the buffett next time for the ambiance. Inside the room just felt like a regular Chinese Rest. (LOL); but outside feels more like Xmas with the singing Carols and all (but a lot noisier). If your child has special needs (the rooms are quieter and better for them). On the plus side, we got one on one optimal Service. The next morning, we had a complimentary breakfast . Our experience here on Christmas Day was phenomenal due to Excellent Customer Service. Especially from an an elder , european waiter with a mustache or beard? He brought my husband an espresso (not asked for); and my husband was super delighted! Our kids (a teen and Grade 3) really liked it. They want to go back! Overall, we will return again for our Christmas tradition. Thank you Old Mills for making our Christmas Dinner and Hotel so special!!!!
Very disorganized. Not enough staff. Chaos was getting to the few staff who were working; frustration was showing, no one seemed to know anything that was happening, one older man employee was extremely rude to several customers. After being told to stand in a very long line if we had reservations, we were then taken to have dinner in the Brulee room instead of dining room. We cleared our own plates and had one glass of water each as the servers ran past us to larger party tables. Finally was able to order a drink as the meal was almost over only because my husband got up from the table and flagged someone down. We then waiting 20 mins for our bill as the server ran in and out of the room several times. Was very disappointed with our experience for Christmas eve dinner and will not chance a repeat next year.
