Old Surrey Restaurant
The interior has a crisp, clean aesthetic that is enhanced by hardwood floors and the enlarged photos of historic Surrey that adorn the walls. There are five distinct dining areas on the top floor (including a cozy library) and a banquet facility downstairs. The cuisine is French with a splash of West Coast flare. A treat for new and seasoned guests alike are the signature dishes that are prepared and flambeed tableside.
The restaurant is family owned and operated since 1975. Since 1984 the restaurant has entered into a partnership with the family farm in Ryder Lake overlooking Chilliwack from the nearby mountains. The Old Surrey is well known for its free-range lamb and veal allowing customers to enjoy fresh organic ingredients.
We sat down at 730pm at our table. Nobody approached us to take our order, by 8pm we had to call a waiter over to order. Our food arrived 1 hr later at 9pm.
Food was good. But not worth waiting that long.
Not inexpensive but is great value. Excellent quality ingredients very well prepared.
One small small service delay (most of the tables in that small room needed a little attention - perhaps all the staff that cover were tied up in another of the several rooms in this "house") otherwise was prompt and proper. Many of the staff have been there many years and all are professional.
Many items still finished table-side; "theatre" throughout the restaurant with lots of flames, even specialty after-dinner coffees are still prepared old school table-side and billows of 'smoke' from the table-side nitrogen ice cream preparation.
A great venue especially for a romantic evening or special occasion. Come all together in one car as parking is tight and no nearby street parking.
A hidden gem! We had the steak and lamb chops- the food was excellent.
Absolutely FANTASTIC! Excellent food, service, atmosphere....there is not one thing they can improve upon. It was outstanding!!! First time here and we will be back. Highly recommend this gem!
An old school French dining experience! If you’re new school and consider table side flambé , and ceaser salad passé then this may not be for you , however if you’re like me and the nostalgia of crepe Suzette flaming away a foot away from you is impossible to pass up then go ahead , you will not be disappointed!
Food was on point I started with some local oysters that were fresh and the vinegar mignette with a hint of spice precluded me from having to ask for the Tabasco jar and supported the oyster all the way through then traditional rack of lamb for me done right , subtly herbed to let the meat shine and steak au poive for my date done to the point where I was a tad jealous with every bite she took.
Only bad thing I can say is our waiter seemed new however he was backed up by a barrage of check ins from more senior staff to make sure we were treated well and wanted for not.
The wine choice was ok but thoughtful, standard pulls from the shelf that don’t offend and prices well enough that if you do find a favourite in the list then a bottle purchase won’t send you to the mortgage broker.
Crepe Suzette let me have my fix of table side pyro and were yummy to boot !!
Overall pricing was decent the bill did not surprise and was actually a bit less than I expected.
There was nothing re invented here , but this would be very new to the sub 4O’s and very nostalgic to us ....distinguished crowd ..
Worth it , will be back with my mom as my date very soon !!!
My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE this place! The food is outstanding, the service is amazing and the ambiance is perfect. This is our "go to" restaurant for special date nights/anniversary/valentines, it never fails. The service is amazing, the staff get to know you and engage with you in such a personal level. I've never had a bad meal here ever! My go to dish is always the rack of lamb, and it is always as good as the first time that I've had it. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who is looking for an amazing meal with a fantastic experience.
We celebrated our 50th anniversary with our friends. My only complaint is the parking lot which had not been cleared from the snow. One of our friends who is 82 years of age Slipped and fell on the snow. Other than that it was a delightful evening. We plan to come next year for our 51st anniversary.
Because of an impending snow storm on Valentine's Day we decided to risk getting to the restaurant earlier than our reservation. We were taken to a table right away with no problem.
That evening was a four-course selection and it was very hard to choose as everything on the menu looked delicious. My date started with the Jumbo Prawns sautéed with garlic, tomatoes and red onions.....he declared it a winner. I had a cold seafood martini with crab, baby shrimp and scallop ceviche. Delicious!
Next course: Cream of potato soup with bacon and scallop; asparagus salad with greens and candied pecans. Both were hits!
Main course: Filet mignon and lobster tail...the steak was cooked to perfection; chicken breast stuffed with cream cheese and spinach, topped with crab and Bearnaise sauce.
Definitely no complaints.
Dessert: Strawberry Romanoff; Creme Caramel. Perfect way to end the meal
Old Surrey is first class, all the way. The dining experience is one to slowly savour and you won't be disappointed. Our server was attentive but not too much so. Our meal was perfect and the noise level was quiet so you could enjoy a conversation, even though the room was full.
Old Surrey never disappoints us and we're very glad we picked it for our Valentine's date!
Great food, relaxed atmosphere, great service, did not rush us! Clean, welcoming, cozy feel with a historic touch. Will definitely go back again.
The food was great. But the service was not even close to a high end restaurant.
Almost everything was perfect, and we had an awesome experience. Will definitely return.
The only downside was that we were seated at the table directly behind an opening (interior window) by the main entry desk where the restaurant phone was located, and as a result we were forced to endure a dozen or so one-sided phone conversations between restaurant staff and people wanting to make reservations and the like. I think this would be easily resolved by putting some heavy glass to seal off that opening. That would be my recommendation.
Really great environment. Fabulous food, and attentive service. Will definitely be going again.
My favourite place to go for date night! Never disappointed!!
It was an awesome experience dining in Old Surrey Restaurant. There was a showcase of ceasar salad preparation and the nitrogen ice cream creation right by our table. The ice cream was sooo good! The filet mignon was grilled to perfection (i had mine medium-well). Their servings are quite big and the price is very reasonable especially for the quality you are getting. It’s a good place for celebration!
It was my second time at the Old Surrey Restaurant, and for the second time I was in awe of this establishment. The service is wonderful, everyone is very welcoming and attentive. My water glass was never empty and plates that were finished were immediately removed from our table. They ever run a fine brush over the table cloth to remove any crumbs before starting your dessert! The food there is unbelievable and worth every penny! My boyfriend and I's steak and lobster were cooked perfectly and they even gave us a complimentary extra lobster for my father in law. The caesar salad is make from scratch at your table by a very talented and friendly server. Our server had a quick wit and good banter with us. Our dessert for the night was ice cream with chocolate and pecans and fresh raspberries. It too was made from scratch at our table. They used liquid nitrogen and created quite a beautiful show for us. I would recommend this restaurant a thousand times over and feel confident that whoever I sent there would receive the same magical experience as we did. The restaurant it self is also stunningly beautiful, with perfect lighting. Candles every where, a fireplace, real roses on the table that smelt wonderful. A huge thank you to the Old Surrey Restaurant for making our visit so enjoyable.
A wonderful dinner, as always. Food - superb, service - excellent, atmosphere - cozy and inviting.
Very enjoyable.. will try again . A wee pricey..
I am going to celebrate my birthday in this place, for sure!
I highly recommend this outstanding experience to all my friends!
everything is really good, from the service to the food
We had a wonderful meal and great service. We will definitely go back.
Celebrated my daughters birthday. Staff was attentive, courteous, very helpful and prompt to our needs. Table side service was great because me 9 year old grandson watched closely how the caeser salad and nitro ice cream meals were made.
First 2 times were awesome. Love the server but the food was just not as flavorful. Also undercooked.
We always enjoy Old Surrey Restaurant for a special occasion. It is nice to have some dishes prepared table side. On our last visit the restaurant was very busy but the food and service were both very good.
Food a bit pricey and quality
and quantities are not quite
what it once was.
Seasoning was not up to par.
My wife and I shared the Steak Au Poivre and Medallions of Beef...both were excellent!!!
First time to be here for my birthday. Ordered the set menu for two, the price was affordable with pretty good potion. Good experience with the food, salad and ice cream is fresh made right in front of your table.
The Old Surrey Restaurant's has been a favourite of ours for years.
Their "Big Red" fixed-price menu is a gourmet meal and an absolute bargain. In its latest iteration, chef Aguirre has evolved a previously near-perfect offering further, adding lobster tail to the filet mignon (both flavoured & cooked exactly right) and taking homemade ice cream (prepared tableside) to a higher level of delicious. Calling their portions "generous" is a serious understatement - skip lunch before dining here.
Service and atmosphere is excellent: fine-dining standards including the almost-lost art of tableside preparation delivered with friendly, unpretentious service.
Always nice at Ild Surrey! 👍
The Big Red Special 4 Course menu was of interest and we both had the menu offerings, though some improvement is needed in the table-side preparation of the Caesar Salad as it was too wet and was heavy-handed with the amount of vinegar used in it’s construction! Overwhelmed a usually very good salad.
The crab cakes were quite dry and there was a struggle to find a nice crab flavour from such a delicate dish! Would not order them in the future.
The beef tenderloin and the lobster tail were done to perfection and could not have been better prepared!
My favourite restaurant. It never disappoints.
Best restaurant in my area...wonderful, personal service. Staff remembers people from previous encounters at the restaurant.
Love their food.. and ambiance. Waiters know what they’re doing.. chef and cook are good.. it’s just that I think the tables are so close to each other... but I understand.. as place is not that big..
Interiors and decorations are nice!
We will be back! Really enjoyed the evening, food was excellent!
Love this place!
Been going here for over 40 years for all different occasions. Never disappointed.
Great food , great atmosphere and fantastic staff.
Definitely a gem. I always knew it was there but never gave it a chance. I would defiantly recommend this place and we will absolutely be back
Love this place. Food is great and prices are reasonable. Can’t wait to go back
I have been to Old Surrey many times . The service is always good. And the food is consistently good.
I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
We had a wonderful meal with superb service. Being New Year’s Eve the restaurant was full and it was a set four course menu. There was plenty to choose from and each course was excellent. Would definitely go back again. There was a party of 6 seated next to us and they were quite loud but apart from that we had a great experience.
