Old Surrey Restaurant
The interior has a crisp, clean aesthetic that is enhanced by hardwood floors and the enlarged photos of historic Surrey that adorn the walls. There are five distinct dining areas on the top floor (including a cozy library) and a banquet facility downstairs. The cuisine is French with a splash of West Coast flare. A treat for new and seasoned guests alike are the signature dishes that are prepared and flambeed tableside.
The restaurant is family owned and operated since 1975. Since 1984 the restaurant has entered into a partnership with the family farm in Ryder Lake overlooking Chilliwack from the nearby mountains. The Old Surrey is well known for its free-range lamb and veal allowing customers to enjoy fresh organic ingredients.
Had a great evening with my parents - very cozy house/restaurant - and the Anniversary menu was amazing for a great price. Looked after my wife very well with gluten free options.
Old Surrey never disappoints. Super friendly staff always makes me feel like one of the family. Fabulous food.
Our evening could not have been better. Perfect way to celebrate.
Everything absolutely perfect. And we’re from inner Vancouver used to pretty nice restaurants. Well done! Fresh roses and actual candles on each table. Old style charm. Spanish coffee and ice cream made right at table. Lobster for price half of vancouver.
A table in the library was requested however not available that evening. We were given a table by the window but the bright lights coming through the window were not pleasant.
We had to wait 20-30 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. I had to ask what the specials were and he spoke to me not the table and spoke so fast and quiet we did not really hear it all . When the lady came to take our order she was rude and if looks could kill my friend would be dead. We had the 4 course special and they forgot to bring the salad until after our meal which we had to ask for. On top of it all we ordered a 2nd bottle of wine and hey brought the one we ordered but charged us for a higher price different bottle which we realized the next day. Food was great but the staff and service not acceptable. I will be calling them to voice my concerns.
Food is always great, service is great too. Always a pleasure to eat at the Old Surrey.
Very nice atmosphere, not too mention the food and service which were outstanding!!
I'm writing this on behalf of my significant other.
Absolutely worst experience at a "fine dining" restaurant. Service was horrible from the time we walked in being rushed to our table while still having our coats in our hands waiting to be hung up. To sitting down getting lack lustre service until the time our COLD and OVERCOOKED food arrived. Our server came through our area three times while we still had our appetizers and did not come by our table to ask how the food was. Which at that point I would have said something, in addition to asking for side plates to try and enjoy what we at least had in front of us. Our table side ceaser salad came well after everyone else in the room although we had ordered before however I feel as though it should have been left out anyway as it was definitely inedible with the strongest taste of vinegar. After a few bites we decided we just couldn't eat it. When another server came to ask if he could take the salads away I told him absolutely as it did not taste well, he smiled and awkwardly laughed and took the plates away. Finally our server came to the table to bring our entrées and after I told her about our bad experience she just said oh, ok. From there we decided to just get our over cooked entrées to go. I made it a point to say I was going to pay for everything it's just our experience was ruined from the first time we came. She came back and said she would take the salads off and again walked away having someone else come and present us our bill. After leaving trying to get out of the parking lot was atrocious at best.
Overall you can see how bad our experience was, in addition to the fact my now fiancé was planning to propose to me that night almost everything was ruined but he ended up doing it at home which I'm glad it wasn't a total loss.
Terrific food as usual, the beef medallions were so tender and flavorful and they had the best Creme Brulee I have had.
Spiro does and excellent job and they had many helpers service was outstanding
We had an excellent meal. We ordered the table-side prepared chateaubriand for 2, with lobster tails, spinach salad for myself as an appetizer and my husband had crab cakes. The muse bouche was the freshest ceviche we had ever had. Everything was exceptionally prepared and delicious. Service was very good and responsive to our needs and requests in excellent time. Very good value and a lovely evening out. This is our 8-10th visit and it never fails to provide an excellent experience.
Great food and great service. Worth it to check it out!
Thank you for a memorable Valentine’s Day celebrations. Food was amazing and the service spectacular.
Simply: good food, great service, and quiet. The rest is just to take up the 50 word minimum
It was a nice romantic atmosphere. I took my wife to celebrate an early valentines date. We loved the seafood platter and the service. We would definitely come back.
We were there for our wedding anniversary so it was a special occasion and were prepared to pay a little more for dinner here. It was delicious, the staff were very nice. We LOVED the table-side prepared Caesar Salad and the Chateaubriand ... it was delicious. We chose (at the recommendation of our waiter) a nice BC VQA Pinot Noir.
We would definitely recommend dining out at The Old Surrey Restaurant.
Great service, wonderful food. Never fails to deliver.
First time experiencing this place. I've heard really good reviews from friends and finally have had the chance to eat here. The service was outstanding. The food was delicious, I only wish I had more stomach room because I was stuffed...will definitely come back in the future.
Overall Service was great. I was upset that no one had come over and asked me about a drink refill-it was non alcohol. As well I did inform them that it was husbands 60th and It was mentioned, they never sang the Birthday song as they did to other customers. This was our first time there. I explained to the server and she was amazing on how we felt. At the end of this they did give us a $50 card. The food was excellent and I would definitely go back there. Thank you for your understanding on our feelings.
The food was fine but we had some unfortunate experiences. One of us has a nightshade food allergy and he told the server so at the beginning. It was obvious that the server had no idea what that meant and our cousin had to repeat himself over and over just to be told at some point "there is just a little of it in the food, is that ok?" It was a rather frustrating experience for our cousin and he won't be back at Old Surrey Restaurant that soon.
For an established restaurant, the servers should really be informed about different allergies so they can help the patrons choose carefully rather than bring food and say "there is only a little inside" etc.
We enjoyed the experience very much. The food and service were excellent!
Impressive! Delicious food and great service.
The only picking I have is finger prints on my wine glass. Otherwise,
My wife and I were celebrating her birthday. We both started with Scallops which were delicious. We both had duck breast with a 3 berry cassis sauce - also delicious. Service, as always, was polished and friendly. Old Surrey is great for special occasions but also just for an excellent meal. We highly recommend it.
Table side service traditional Caesar salad service at table - the anchovies * Delicious ..Voulevant pastry filled with sauteed veg+ artichokes in a light creme sauce very generous portions ...also at the table full rack of lamb dinner that was very much enjoyed We will be back-of course ,why would you not eat here... the food , service and ambiance are all exceptional
Incredible foods (steak and lobster/rack of lamb). Wonderful, friendly service. Building is very
unique, relaxing. Wonderful evening.
Always a great meal at the Old Surrey Restaurant! Have never been disappointed! Been going there every year or two for over 30 years!
The crab cakes were delicious, but I did not get even a hint of crab in the cake. The garnishment and the sauce were delicious! The Lobster and Fillet were cooked perfectly and the Salad was amazing. The Ice Cream at the end was probable the best part of the "Show". Came to celebrate my Birthday, but will certainly come back soon!
The food and service was fantastic! Will definitely recommend to others. Thank you!
The service was impeccable, low noise (thank you!), and the food delicious. The table-side service such as specialty coffees and nitro ice cream were fun and entertaining. I've grown up in the area and the time finally arrived to try this lovely establishment for myself...great conversation and ambiance!
We have been to this restaurant several times for our family gatherings. Always great food and service.
Seriously one of the finest meals I have ever had. Beautiful service, beautiful setting, beautiful food.
We enjoyed our meal very much but found we were served more food than 80 plus year olds need. We probably should have ordered one entree each and left it at at that! Your menu looked so attractive for the anniversary meal but we should have been smarter.
The portions of the meal prepared at our table were quite an experience. The salad was very rich and could have served four people but the nitro ice cream was a wonderful treat!
Great night out with my wife
First of all, I have been at your restaurant a few times in the last few years and it has always been a great experience.
However , I think the price for châteaubriant, even for 2 people is definitely overpriced! I go out to fine dining restaurants on a regular basis, but I don’t think we have ever paid $ 90.00 ! for a main course! The service and the châteaubriant was excellent, but I was disappointed with the price. For that reason alone, I would not order that dish again. Maybe the price of $ 45.00 is to low for 1 person, but if that meal is not available for 1 person, why not make it e.g. $ 75.00 for 2 people?
Also, on the menu on your website, it does not mention that the price for châteaubriant is for 1 person only! I would suggest that you have to mention that on your website, as it will be a very disappointing surprise for many customers. Customers don’t like surprises.
We were celebrating our father's 92 birthday! A very special occasion! The service was poor, staff seemed to be frazzled, had to ask twice for butler, cream and sugar. We were very dsappointed, there was not even a candle or sparkler in his dessert to mark the special occasion. We spent over $800 dollars, and feel that our money would be better spent else where. We will not be back.
I've eaten here often and this visit was not good. Utterly chaotic.
A hidden gem in the heart of Newton. Food was extraordinary and service was top notch. Thoroughly enjoyed watching our salad and ice cream being prepared in front of us.
special menu meal - diet restriction was made by the chef was fantastic, exemplary service and lovely ambiance
