Old Surrey Restaurant
The interior has a crisp, clean aesthetic that is enhanced by hardwood floors and the enlarged photos of historic Surrey that adorn the walls. There are five distinct dining areas on the top floor (including a cozy library) and a banquet facility downstairs. The cuisine is French with a splash of West Coast flare. A treat for new and seasoned guests alike are the signature dishes that are prepared and flambeed tableside.
The restaurant is family owned and operated since 1975. Since 1984 the restaurant has entered into a partnership with the family farm in Ryder Lake overlooking Chilliwack from the nearby mountains. The Old Surrey is well known for its free-range lamb and veal allowing customers to enjoy fresh organic ingredients.
Server was present but not in your face. BEST steak ever in a restaurant ! Will come back again and again
Chefs scallops were amazing, chicken parmesan was cooked perfectly but a little too much tomato sauce, while rack of lamb was perfectly cooked, sauce was weak in flavour. Also, prawn appetizer lacked flavour—boring. Given our visit on a slow night, the service could have been more attentive. We left slightly disappointed.
Old Surrey Restaurant is our favourite restaurant for special occasions.
This time it was for my husband's birthday and we had our eight year old grandson with us.
It was the first time he had ever been there, and we let him know good manners would be expected.
Since he couldn't stop saying "Awesome" right from walking in the door, there was no doubt that he loved the experience.
All of the staff are so friendly and welcoming, and it seemed as if they enjoyed having a younger person there.
We adults had the Big Red special and a bottle of the Kettle Valley Merlot that is the house's signature wine. It was a perfect choice; the fresh warm bread and amuse bouche set the tone for the meal right from the start
The steak was perfect and the lobster was so tender I could hardly believe it. The preparation of the Caesar salad and then the Nitro ice cream at the table side was wonderful, and everything tasted incredible. (Our grandson loved his pizza made specially for him.)
My husband said it was the best birthday dinner ever.
Thank you, Old Surrey Restaurant, for making it great!
My husband and I went out for a rare dinner without the kids to enjoy out 5th wedding anniversary and 20+ years together.
The service was attentive and informative. Food fantastic.
Highly recommend if your looking for a beautiful dinner.
Spectacular Anniversary special!!! Excellent food. Service was also excellent. There was an unfortunate disturbance from another table near us and the staff handled the unpleasant customers as quietly and diplomatically as they could.
Our meal was prepared to perfection! We had the steak and lobster special which was so delicious. Our waiter was attentive and filled our every need with out being obtrusive. My husband and I enjoyed ourselves! It certainly was a treat..definitely a 5star
Always great service and great food! We tell everyone we know to go to the Old Surrey Restaurant.
The restaurant itself represents an attitude of fine dining, sometimes the ambiance would outweigh the the food.
We went there for my wife's birthday as she always wanted to go to this restaurant and we had heard great things. The appies had no flavour and for 18$ and 17$ we had 6 shrimp on a plate with a diced tomato and not much else. The bread was great and the little amuse bouche was good. The main courses were ok, I had ordered a pepper steak but it was not encrusted with pepper corns or even have pepper flavour. The meat was done perfectly but the sauce had no taste. It was the same for all of us. The cuison was perfect for everything but we probably should have gone to the Keg or WAG in White Rock as it would have been cheaper and we would have had great atmosphere. Lastly, I had a refill of my ginger-ale and was charged for a second pop. This is not common as I am the DD for the family and usually there is only a charge for one pop. I can understand if I had 6 pops but a can of pop is very cheap so almost 4 dollars for a pop is not correct.
We found that the atmosphere was stale, there was no ambient music and the decor was quite old. On another note, the service was great, the place was very clean. Sorry but we will not be recommending this restaurant to our friends.
Wonderful ‘old school’ elegant dining. Menu was great, food was amazing. We ordered the steak and lobster special and found it to be beautifully prepared(loved the tableside preparations of the Caesar salad and the ice cream). Steaks were perfectly cooked and portions were generous. Excellent value. Service was very friendly and attentive, staff seemed to be happy and proud of the food they were serving. Would definitely return.
This is one of our favorite places to go. The quality of the food is outstanding, every course was done right. The service is impeccable, you get a fine dining experience. It's a great place to go where you can enjoy the company you are with because you don't have to yell over the other diners. Highly recommended.
We have been going to Old Surrey Restaurant for years. We started going for special occasions only but we now go at least once a month. The food is always excellent. The service is top notch. It's nice to see so many young people now enjoying this lovely restaurant.
This restaurant never disappoints. Big Red meal is a great value. Highly recommend.
We have been going to the Old Surrey Restaurant for over 40 years and have never been disappointed. It’s our “go to” place for celebrations or when we want to spoil ourselves.
We quite enjoyed our meal at the Old Surrey Restaurant. I was served one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The waiter was professional and well skilled.
Lovely setting in old house. Service was excellent, food even better.
I have been coming here for many years. Quality and service are excellent every time. It’s a superb old style restaurant experience.
Perfection! The meal was perfection, the service the same! It was my first visit here, but by far won't be my last!! The food was so good I wanted to cry!! AMAZING!
Dining at the Old Surrey Restaurant was a special event. The prices reflect the outstanding food, ambiance and service you will receive. Linger and enjoy it!
This is one of the most amazing restaurant s I have had the pleasure of dining at.
Food was good. Had the seafood platter, it was a little on the cold side but otherwise very good.
My girlfriend and I had a delightful time. We found the setting to be at once both elegant and cosy, and the staff were likewise both formal and friendly. The food as well was top quality, and the nitro Ice cream was a real show at the end.
We sat down at 730pm at our table. Nobody approached us to take our order, by 8pm we had to call a waiter over to order. Our food arrived 1 hr later at 9pm.
Food was good. But not worth waiting that long.
Not inexpensive but is great value. Excellent quality ingredients very well prepared.
One small small service delay (most of the tables in that small room needed a little attention - perhaps all the staff that cover were tied up in another of the several rooms in this "house") otherwise was prompt and proper. Many of the staff have been there many years and all are professional.
Many items still finished table-side; "theatre" throughout the restaurant with lots of flames, even specialty after-dinner coffees are still prepared old school table-side and billows of 'smoke' from the table-side nitrogen ice cream preparation.
A great venue especially for a romantic evening or special occasion. Come all together in one car as parking is tight and no nearby street parking.
A hidden gem! We had the steak and lamb chops- the food was excellent.
Absolutely FANTASTIC! Excellent food, service, atmosphere....there is not one thing they can improve upon. It was outstanding!!! First time here and we will be back. Highly recommend this gem!
An old school French dining experience! If you’re new school and consider table side flambé , and ceaser salad passé then this may not be for you , however if you’re like me and the nostalgia of crepe Suzette flaming away a foot away from you is impossible to pass up then go ahead , you will not be disappointed!
Food was on point I started with some local oysters that were fresh and the vinegar mignette with a hint of spice precluded me from having to ask for the Tabasco jar and supported the oyster all the way through then traditional rack of lamb for me done right , subtly herbed to let the meat shine and steak au poive for my date done to the point where I was a tad jealous with every bite she took.
Only bad thing I can say is our waiter seemed new however he was backed up by a barrage of check ins from more senior staff to make sure we were treated well and wanted for not.
The wine choice was ok but thoughtful, standard pulls from the shelf that don’t offend and prices well enough that if you do find a favourite in the list then a bottle purchase won’t send you to the mortgage broker.
Crepe Suzette let me have my fix of table side pyro and were yummy to boot !!
Overall pricing was decent the bill did not surprise and was actually a bit less than I expected.
There was nothing re invented here , but this would be very new to the sub 4O’s and very nostalgic to us ....distinguished crowd ..
Worth it , will be back with my mom as my date very soon !!!
My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVE this place! The food is outstanding, the service is amazing and the ambiance is perfect. This is our "go to" restaurant for special date nights/anniversary/valentines, it never fails. The service is amazing, the staff get to know you and engage with you in such a personal level. I've never had a bad meal here ever! My go to dish is always the rack of lamb, and it is always as good as the first time that I've had it. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who is looking for an amazing meal with a fantastic experience.
We celebrated our 50th anniversary with our friends. My only complaint is the parking lot which had not been cleared from the snow. One of our friends who is 82 years of age Slipped and fell on the snow. Other than that it was a delightful evening. We plan to come next year for our 51st anniversary.
Because of an impending snow storm on Valentine's Day we decided to risk getting to the restaurant earlier than our reservation. We were taken to a table right away with no problem.
That evening was a four-course selection and it was very hard to choose as everything on the menu looked delicious. My date started with the Jumbo Prawns sautéed with garlic, tomatoes and red onions.....he declared it a winner. I had a cold seafood martini with crab, baby shrimp and scallop ceviche. Delicious!
Next course: Cream of potato soup with bacon and scallop; asparagus salad with greens and candied pecans. Both were hits!
Main course: Filet mignon and lobster tail...the steak was cooked to perfection; chicken breast stuffed with cream cheese and spinach, topped with crab and Bearnaise sauce.
Definitely no complaints.
Dessert: Strawberry Romanoff; Creme Caramel. Perfect way to end the meal
Old Surrey is first class, all the way. The dining experience is one to slowly savour and you won't be disappointed. Our server was attentive but not too much so. Our meal was perfect and the noise level was quiet so you could enjoy a conversation, even though the room was full.
Old Surrey never disappoints us and we're very glad we picked it for our Valentine's date!
Great food, relaxed atmosphere, great service, did not rush us! Clean, welcoming, cozy feel with a historic touch. Will definitely go back again.
The food was great. But the service was not even close to a high end restaurant.
Almost everything was perfect, and we had an awesome experience. Will definitely return.
The only downside was that we were seated at the table directly behind an opening (interior window) by the main entry desk where the restaurant phone was located, and as a result we were forced to endure a dozen or so one-sided phone conversations between restaurant staff and people wanting to make reservations and the like. I think this would be easily resolved by putting some heavy glass to seal off that opening. That would be my recommendation.
Really great environment. Fabulous food, and attentive service. Will definitely be going again.
My favourite place to go for date night! Never disappointed!!
It was an awesome experience dining in Old Surrey Restaurant. There was a showcase of ceasar salad preparation and the nitrogen ice cream creation right by our table. The ice cream was sooo good! The filet mignon was grilled to perfection (i had mine medium-well). Their servings are quite big and the price is very reasonable especially for the quality you are getting. It’s a good place for celebration!
It was my second time at the Old Surrey Restaurant, and for the second time I was in awe of this establishment. The service is wonderful, everyone is very welcoming and attentive. My water glass was never empty and plates that were finished were immediately removed from our table. They ever run a fine brush over the table cloth to remove any crumbs before starting your dessert! The food there is unbelievable and worth every penny! My boyfriend and I's steak and lobster were cooked perfectly and they even gave us a complimentary extra lobster for my father in law. The caesar salad is make from scratch at your table by a very talented and friendly server. Our server had a quick wit and good banter with us. Our dessert for the night was ice cream with chocolate and pecans and fresh raspberries. It too was made from scratch at our table. They used liquid nitrogen and created quite a beautiful show for us. I would recommend this restaurant a thousand times over and feel confident that whoever I sent there would receive the same magical experience as we did. The restaurant it self is also stunningly beautiful, with perfect lighting. Candles every where, a fireplace, real roses on the table that smelt wonderful. A huge thank you to the Old Surrey Restaurant for making our visit so enjoyable.
A wonderful dinner, as always. Food - superb, service - excellent, atmosphere - cozy and inviting.
Very enjoyable.. will try again . A wee pricey..
