Food was good but the room was cold and the red wine a similar temperature both of which significantly impacted the experience. The room was three quarters empty and yet the restaurant has a tendency to seat customers right next to each other affording little in the way of privacy. Need to consider closing off some of the restaurant in that instance.
Servers started preparing for breakfast at 10pm - another reason to consider splitting the room or placing a divider. Server was unavailable when required bill or when was considering coffee to combat the cold. Overall disappointing😥
What on earth has happened to this restaurant? Arrived, was seated promptly. Was ignored for 10+ minutes and then eventually caught the eye of a waiter, Waiter 1. Came over took drinks and food orders. Then another waiter arrived to take our drinks order, Waiter 2. Drinks arrived. Waiter 2 came back and asked if we would like to place food order, we told him we had already. Some time after, starters arrived AND all of our main courses all at once. I asked why, and the waiter just shrugged and continued to overload the table with dishes. Ridiculous. The table behind us, had a glass of red wine knocked over by a waiter. It was like a scene from Fawlty Towers Comedy. Food was ok, but not fabulous. Finished meal. Waiter 2 came back, took plates away. Came back and asked if we would like to see the desserts menu - by this time, we'd had enough! ONE was once fantastic years ago, but sadly is tired looking, cramped (tables so close together), over priced and very poorly staffed, such a pity.
Terrific service but the quality does not justify the price other than it is trendy
We just dinning at One Restaurant!
The food was amazing and so was the service!
Our favourite! We can’t wait to go back!
I expect veal to be from a young beast but the veal I got must have been from an old cow.
They were friendly to us and were toddler friendly. Thank you to the staff.
Food is mediocre compared to restaurants of a similar level. The USDA sirloin at $72 was undercooked, dry and disappointing. It did not meet expectations based on several previous visits to other Mcewan restaurants like North 44 and ByMark. While ONE is not a steakhouse, the prices are similar to other Toronto steakhouses such as Jacobs, STK, Barbarians, etc. and the quality is no where close to those establishments. The mushroom fettuccine was ok but lacking seasoning. Bone marrow appetizer was average but crostini was very burnt and needed to be sent back. The cookies were ok.
In addition to mediocre food the restaurant has a serious problems with flies. There were many fruit flies and house flies buzzing around our indoor table. I could understand this problem if we were on the patio but it is unacceptable indoors. I had a fruit fly floating in my scotch which needed to be sent back.
I would not recommend this restaurant. Overall it is simply a lazy effort by all those involved from the hostesses to the servers to the cooks. We will not be back.
Lovely and beautiful restaurant with an eclectic twist to most dishes. Loved the lobster spoons in the vermouth butter, but we were only two people and 3 spoons each was a bit much and monotonous. The yellow tail was pretty good, but not amazing. Oddly, where they really excelled were on the side dishes. The grilled broccoli with the tahini sauce is amazing and the truffle fries were incredible. Fo rmain courses, the black cod in miso was great. On par with a Nobu. Did not try desserts, but I bet they were fabulous!
the restaurant was not busy at all when we were there, and then in the middle of dinner our server just vanished, which is why I am grading them lower. We had no one attending us for a while, and then we got a new server when we were finished eating. That being said, both servers were really nice and knowledgeable, but we were left hanging for a good 20 minutes.
Our burgers and fries were very bad. Under cooked. Not what we expected.
We came into restaurant and there was only one other table of two seated nonetheless no one came to give us water or take our drinks order. Staff was going back and forth to the outside patio passing us each time but not stopping. We then flagged down a very nice young man who proceeded to help us but then another server took over who was not good at all. The food honestly was not good, not nearly as good as the time we had previously eaten there. The food was not hot nor well prepared.
It appeared the staff was off after TIFF and a large party the night before. Very disappointing!
it was a lovely day...and we sat outside...the food was super...and the service excellent.
this restaurant is expensive...but the value is definitely there! i had not been for a while...
will return soon
Great place, probably the best for a business lunch downtown. Staff are uniformly excellent, food is always good, service is impeccable. Favorite spot, never let me down!
Dover sole extremely expensive $90 understanding market price a little too much, when we asked had a frown from the waitress!
For a restaurant like ONE customer service expectation should be a lot higher, service was okay!
Do like the ambience!
The full breakfast is exactly that.....Full!
Inside dining was alittle to dark. Very noisy.
Always excellent - service, meal and ambiance. Great for meetings and social.
Our brunch food was great, as usual. Our server was always busy and inattentive. He had to be reminded 3 times to bring cream for coffee as it got cold. Water was not refilled until we asked. We were disappointed with the service.
The host told us that she can sit us only at the patio even though we reserved 3 weeks before the visit. When we asked for a manager, the host found the table inside where many more tables were empty. A bottle of champagne opened by a waiter for the nearby table gushed and splashed on guests at two tables barely missing us. One of our water glasses was dirty with sticky gooey residue resembling mucus which became visible only after drinking half of the water. Absolutely disgusting. Waiter did not even apologized, just said that she will bring another one. May be if they had better lighting, the staff would be able to see what they are doing. We also noticed people struggling to read small font of the menu in the barely lit room. We ordered only 7 dishes and a waiter forgot about one of them. An appetizer was ok, the main dish scallops were burned and drenched in sour & sweet sauce to the point of not being able to taste anything else on the plate. The place is not even close to a high end dining experience it tries to be seen as.
This is the restaurant we most often choose when struggling to decide where to go. The food and the staff are awesome. Big tables, great cocktails it’s perfect for date night or a family dinner. Can’t say enough good things about One.
Horrendous service, a terrible wait and food that tasted as if it had been poisoned. Not to mention an insipid, overpriced wine.
nothing to add. nothing to add. nothing to add. nothing to add.
Great food. Great service. Competent and friendly staff
The service was pretty poor, the waitress took a long time to come and kept forgetting items, also took a very long time for us to wait for her every time we needed something, even longer to bring the bill. Also her look didn’t meet expectations form a high end restaurant.
We picked this restaurant because the menu online had a main that my wife could eat (vegetarian). When we get there, the menu is significantly different and the dish is not on it. After considering going elsewhere, we opt to order apps instead which were great, except the hummus comes with whole pitas which we had to cut ourselves. Makes more sense for them to cut them before serving them. Lastly, me and my wife decided to split a Lumarche for dinner, her's without the bacon. Her's was fine, on mine the bacon tasted plasticky, so I stopped eating it.
Terrible service. They were so rude and did not take care of the table. Brought coffee no cream for 30+ minutes. I don’t recommend brunching here at all. It’s like every waiter hated working there and dreaded a customer coming in for brunch. The patio was nice but spoiled by the service. My eggs were ordered over medium and came out over hard.
It was my birthday dinner, they did an amazing job.
We came for a special occasion. We all enjoyed it very much. It helped that we sat outside and the weather was just right.
This was an amazing restaurant. The food was great and the service was well worth it. You pay for what you get which is great service and food.
A lot of mosquitoes and it was very tight. Table leveling and balance need adjustments.
Sadly, not as good as it used to be :(
The food (Octopus, Carpaccio, and Dover Sole) were mediocre and the dessert (Warm Chocolate Cake) was a non-event. The patio was lively and you can’t best the people watching but the food just isn’t up to par.
Nice patio. Food was good. Service was fine. A little overpriced for what you get but it definitely was a good night!
Great location and patio - wine list is great, food is always really, really great. Apetizers of stuffed zucchini blossoms were great, Black Cod was unbelievable and were sides....only low point of the meal was the Orata..was just meh - I'd go with any other main on the menu
Great job amazing lunch
Ambience was perfect, no better patio in the city. Beautiful people every which way. Most impressive, the manager stopped in to welcome us and helped select an impressive bottle of champagne that suited everyone’s taste level. 10/10 can’t wait to go back.
We made a reservation over a week ago and still were seated around the back at an under table like we were walkups. Tables all around us had reserved signs and we didn’t get one. Had to complain. We did get moved to a better spot but shouldn’t have to go through that when reserving in advance.
Otherwise the service, food and ambience was impeccable.
Fantastic brunch menu!
The food/ambience was great, but our server dropped the bill very fast (while we were eating) and I got the feeling she wanted us out. We were there for an hour and ten minutes total (I checked) so I think the abrupt cheque-drop was a little unnecessary. Good in other ways, though!
Another McEwan success story and this time in Mid-Town T.O. (Trendy Yorkville).
Mark and his Staff have certainly transferred their culinary skills and knack for providing superb service, from their other fine establishments, to this "ONE".
Exquisite Food and Superb Service tend to showcase this 'Yorkville Gem'.
Both, the Organic Irish Salmon and the Tiger Prawns were fresh and cooked to perfection.
An impressive wine list, with prices ranging from the affordable to astronomical; yes, something for everyone.
An awesome patio that is great for outdoor dining; especially at night (By candle-light) and a series of heaters that are very subtle in compensating for those sudden dips in temp..
Many of our Mining Clients are opting for the Hazelton Hotel (Which is part of the complex), in lieu of downtown accommodation (A nice twist)
With TIFF 2019 coming up; this will be one of the venues for 'Star Sightings'.
Thanks Mark, for another enjoyable visit.
Black cod to die for ... delicious. Had to share!
Quality of the food is not worth the price. Location and service great
