Pre-theatre and after work specials are available daily. Petterino's location is ideal for business lunches as well as a break from shopping or touring in the nearby State Street and Millennium Park venues. Pre-theatre diners have the option of leaving their car with Petterino's while they attend the show and can then pick it up after the performance is completed.
Seated quickly, good food and had wonderful waitress
Food was fabulous
Very “Chicago like” atmosphere - we loved it!
Had a party of 7 before seeing MusicMan at the Goodman. The waiter was SOOOoo accommodating. Allowed some to have 2 starters instead of dessert in Fixed Price Menu. Kept everyones beverages fresh and flowing. Great filets all around. YUM. Even helped us identify faces on the wall! After the meal, we filled out claim check cards to pick up our doggie bags after the show!
Best place for pre-theater dining in the city!
Always a great experience and good food.
Our server was fantastic! We got to try their tomato bisque soup and he was very helpful when we didn’t know what to order. Since it was our first visit, he treated us with a free dessert which was amazing! He also sent us home with a bag full of their wonderful bread and flatbread! Get the crispy burrata and ask for extra soft bread to soak up all the extra sauce, pesto, and balsamic left on the plate.
I felt like our food was sitting in the kitchen awhile and did not taste fresh.
Excellent waiter who made the occasion truly memorable.
I was celebrating my birthday and was going to see Hamilton. Our waiter Dan Smith was awesome; he was so nice and funny and brought me complimentary desserts to celebrate my birthday.
I order Chicken Armando, which I have ordered before, and I just didn't enjoy it. The chicken was flattened and I think over cooked. I was so looking forward to my entree, but was disappointed.
This is the perfect place for pre theatre dining. Our server was excellent and responsive, plus very thoughtful to recognize that we were also celebrating a birthday with a treat. A beautiful evening was had by all!
The service was great the food was great, I would recommend this restaurant for any occassion
Great food service and everyone was friendly. Highly recommended.
Had lunch with a friend before the theater. The entire staff, including Daniel our waiter was very attentive, and the food was GREAT! Will definitely go back!
Predictable food with a limited menu. The only reason, given all of Chicago’s restaurants, for eating there is if you’re seeing a show at the Goodman.
The bar however is excellemt
It was so amazing. Will hopefully come back
Petterinos is our restaurant of choice prior to seeing a great Sunday production at the Goodman Theater.
I always make reservations because Sunday at 6 pm many patrons are turned away because of
a huge reservation commitment.
We were seated a bit earlier than our reservation.
Meal and service excellent and our server immediately asked if we were seeing
the 7:30pn show and adjusted to accommodate our timeline.
We had to get to a play, and Petterino's seemed like a good place to try. Being a Lettuce restaurant, we figured we were safe and that a place actually connected to a theater would ask and understand the urgency of ordering and serving. Our play began at 7:30, and we arrived at 5:45 for our reservation. Our server was unenthusiastic to say the least. It took at least 20 minutes to see him and have our orders taken. Our first course (appetizers, soups, salads) came out at 6:45. We reminded our server that we had a 7:30 sharp play and had to get a couple of blocks away. Despite that, our food finally came out at 7PM. At 7:15, those of us who had desserts had to inform the server that - as the desserts actually came out plated, we would need those to go. We got to our show with 2 minutes to spare before they closed the doors. Very, very disappointing. We were seated toward the back of the restaurant (near the door to the Goodman), but that shouldn't mean that we were forgotten. We were. You may want to inform your server and hostess that you have a show to get to. Who knew that a 5:45PM reservation wouldn't guarantee making a play 1:45 minutes later...
We arrived for dinner after a Sunday matinee. We had reservations, but arrived early. We were seated after waiting about 15 minutes. From the start it just looked like the staff was a bit overwhelmed by the crowd. Everyone seemed to be running around. Our waiter was friendly and took our drink orders promptly. Then came the first hint of trouble. Our waiter came back twice to our table to tell us that he was still trying to get that drink (a beer), but the bar was too busy. Finally on the third try he returned with the beer. That episode took about 20 minutes. He took our food order at this time. I ordered steak frites, medium rare. The first course, salads, arrived after maybe 20 to 25 minutes after ordering them. I thought this pretty slow, as I am sure there was still a large pre-theater crowd.
More than half hour passed between salad and the arrival of our main course. The rest of the party had no complaints about the food, just me. The steak arrived, a grayish lump sitting in a puddle of grease. I cut into it, and immediately saw that it was not medium rare. There was only the faintest hint of pink to be seen. I have had over cooked steaks in the past. In fact a few weeks ago at Wildfire I received a well done steak, instead of medium rare. That is was where the similarities end. The one from Wildfire was still tender and delicious. I ate it without complaint. This one from Petterino’s was neither tender or delicious. I would say it was of similar quality to a steak one would get from a Denny’s. By this time it was so late, we had been there over 2 hours at this point, that I didn’t bother sending it back. I was not prepared to wait another hour for a subpar steak, even if cooked as ordered.
As no one ever came by to check how our meal was, I eventually flagged down and waiter and told him the issue. To his credit, he did ask if I would like another one. As I mentioned above, I declined. The steak was taken off the bill...And I am out of space.
The Maryland crabcake appetizer was yummy. I Also had the Irv K chicken Dinner salad.
Delicious food and incredibly convenient before the theatre. Salmon was out of this world. Best peppermint ice cream ever.
Service was so bad. We kept having the wrong dishes sent to us...and both tables next to us experienced the same. We were there for 3 hours simply because of wrong orders and bad service
Petterino's is a great restaurant! The food is always excellent, the ambiance is wonderful. The only issue which is a sign of how good the restaurant is, is when they get busy they get really busy! When a show gets out of the Goodman or there is a show nearby, the place is running flat out to serve you! The servers, the bartenders, the waiters bust their buts to get your your food and get you on your way! Next time your downtown, stop by Petterino's!
Had dinner before The Music Man was a wonderful night
Pre theatre brunch. We let server know and it worked out fije
The most horrible service I have ever had. I will not be returning. Used to be such a wonderful place. I was embarrassed taking my mother there
Terrible service. The waiter was rude and ignored us for the most part. We tried to get his attention on several occasions but he simply ignored us.
I enjoy Petterinos, but I would appreciate the wait staff acknowledging a food allergy more than just saying "well, then you know what you can and can't eat on the menu". I thought this comment was rude and dismissive. I believe the staff can at least point out items on the menu or acknowledge that some items can be tailored for a gluten allergy. Also, my eggs in purgatory were supposed to be poached and clearly they were hard boiled or at least by the time they were served to me they were a rubbery mound of eggs. Disappointing visit on a Sunday morning when the restaurant was not yet very crowded.
A wonderful brunch before Goodman Theatre. Sitting outside on a wonderful summer afternoon. Our server Edgar, was the finest server I have had in 10 years. Wonderful place and staff, as usual.
Great food from a varied menu, which was referred to as American but had a broad mix of types of food including Pasta & Risotto dishes.
Fried calamari starter was delicious. One of our party had stuffed mushrooms which were also very flavorsome.
Would recommend the Parpadelle Bolognese which was pork with Italian sausage - very tasty.
Tables available outside, which although next to a reasonably busy junction was more pleasant, given warm weather, than sitting inside with potentially cold air conditioning.
Staff were very friendly, although I only marked a 4* because I thought the service was a little slow at times for obvious things like refreshing water glasses or drinks, rather than food;
We have been to Petterinos often, the three of us order the
Good food, good service, good prices, and great location for theatre dining. Handy and price-fixing valet parking.
Food and service was outstanding. Kudos to Trish, our waitress.
Daniel our waiter was the nicest waiter I have ever had. He gave us sorbet, moose cake, and 2 waters for on the go to keep us hydrated before we went to the taste of Chicago.
The staff made us feel special as we celebrated our fortieth anniversary. They brought out three champaign flutes on the house. They were attentive and refilled our water often. We love this place.
Lunch before the theatre with good friends was the special occasion. We allowed plenty of time and were paced appropriately. We were in a booth which was conversation friendly and our food was very good.
Waiter was very sad. Tried hard to relate to him but he just seemed sad.
Manager picked up some of our needs.
There was confusion about menus, waiter forgot dessert menu after we asked for one.
We always enjoy dining at Petterino's and each time have a delicious dinner and great service.
I'd like to compliment our waiter, Adria, for the fine service she provided during this visit. Some
of our party was late due to heavy traffic, but she made sure that we never felt rushed. Our
meals were served with time to enjoy them. She was cordial and helpful and even produced a
birthday cake on short notice! We heartily recommend Petterino's and will dine there again soon.
Everything top notch. Our server Daniel S. was incredibly helpful when it came time to decide on our meals. Food portions very generous. If you’re going to a show or out and about and cannot take leftovers, they will hold in the fridge for you until you can.
Late getting food out to us which delayed us getting back to our offices.
We had lunch in the bar because the dining room was slow to give us a table. Salads were terrific. Wait staff was friendly and helpful despite being very busy. With small bar tables, we could hear each other easily.
Restaurant is located in theater district, so it was a COMPLETE MADHOUSE at lunchtime with people trying to go to matinee shows and the restaurant could not accommodate the crowds. They had enough tables, but not enough servers. Waited 10 minutes before anyone came to the table to take a drink order. Reservation DID NOT WORK through LettuceEats app, so I will never use that again.Food is fine, but a bit overpriced. Not worth the effort.
