What Insiders Are Saying
Piccolo Sogno is a classic Italian restaurant complete with candlelight, white table clothes, and pure romance.
Great Food and service. The location is great and the outside garden is special.
Crowded, popular, noisy - good atmosphere and food. Feels a bit rushed - feels like you are second class if not a regular.
Outstanding meal! Can't wait to come back and have the Paglia e fieno again.
Food and service were excellent. Highly recommend to anyone that is looking for an authentic Italian dinner.
Fantastic all Italian wine list...grateful had done research before dining - because guidance was not offered by indifferent waiter. Brussel sprout app tasted like a Caesar salad good but not special...pastas were okay. Not a memorable experience but a nice dinner.
The entire experience was amazing, especially the entire staff. I can’t hardly wait to come back in the warmer months to sit in the charming outdoor area too! A perfect dinner out catching up with family...thank you Piccolo Sogno!
Exceptionsl food from a super chef, wonderful service. Highly recommend
Excellent food and service. Initially our waiter was rushing us but after a while he got the idea and backed off. Looking forward to summer dining outside!
Always a wonderful experience at Piccolo Sogno. Truly never disappoints, from the greeting at the door, to the service at your table, and the food is always amazing. My recommendation- pick your menu for the evening, then let your water pick the wine. They always do a great job and never choose an outrageously priced bottle!
Very salty pasta
Despite noting in my reservation that I was dining for a special occasion, I was brought to the ONE table that was practically IN the kitchen. Our table was lit not by candle light, but by the harsh fluorescent hanging lights in the kitchen, and I couldn’t hear my date over the sound of shattering and clanging dinnerware from the dishwashing station behind my chair. I paid my $220 bill, and will never be returning.
Fantastic meal with clean flavors, more of the type of foods I eat when back in Italy.
We were late and just made in before the kitchen closed. The salads were very good but the main course just so so. I had the pasta with rags and it was so salty I couldn't finish. Not only was the kitchen closing, which I understood but we got our order in on time and then they just rushed us with the whole meal. We asked if they would rather have us cancel but they said no as long as we could get our order in on time. In hind site we should have left.
Food was phenomenal, and the service was even better. We told them that we needed by 7:15 to catch a show, and they got us out of there at exactly 7:15. The team of servers did an amazing job, and everyone at our table was impressed. Unfortunately for us, we weren't able to sit out on the patio due to very bad weather.
A very good upscale Italian restaurant. Our full tab was about $160 for two including wine, appetizer, two mains and dessert. The bread tray included both fresh local off white and cornbread, both delicious. The spaghetti neri appetizer portion was al dente chewy with tasty seafood. The ahi tuna was seared and nicely complemented with various veggies. The short rib was also first rate. The panna cotta could have been a bit more custardy and less gelatinous. Served with fruit it was a nicely balanced dish. Overall a top notch experience!
Fantastic as usual.
Next restaurant in chicago. Amazing Italian food with homemade pasta. Not too much sauce or cheese or huge portions. Great service too!!
As always my Chicago favorite. Share dinner with friends who have small appetite. We shared several half portion pastas and everything was great. Service was spot on, not intrusive and still sensitive to our needs
Everything was great from beginning to end. Great bread with a special added touch being the balsamic in the little bottle. We ended up buying a couple to take home. Burrata and prosciutto was great. All of our entries were very good and the dessert as well. Service was great and it was overall just a very nice experience. Only problem is that it is typically hard to get into but this time we went early early on a Sunday evening and I made reservations a week in advance. Would definitely recommend it and would go back. And did I mention that I am Italian and picky about where I eat Italian food?!
Food was very good, service was excellent. Might be just a bit to pricy, 4 people with only two drinking wine by the glass...$300+. Good place.
The food was good and the service was excellent. However, we won't likely be back anytime soon. It was so loud and the acoustics are incredibly poor in this restaurant. Everyone around was was actually shouting to their dinner companions and the sound bounced around like they all had megaphones. I'd read the reviews about the noise, but I didn't realize it could be so bad. We went across the street to a busy Irish Pub for an after dinner drink and it was much quieter in there.
Was very nice except being sat too close to the kitchen. Would recommend to anyone! Food is amazing!
excellent food! great calamari. very good service.
Great service, best branzino in the city, can’t wait for the amazing outdoor patio to open
This restaurant usually has good food but our last dinner was a complete miss - from food to sevice. We sat down and ordered our drinks and appetizers with the intent of reading the rest of the menu. Our waiter must have come by 5 times in 5 minutes for our entree order and was then gone for the rest of the night. He could not have been more impatient. Never asked if we wanted another round of drinks. I flagged him down for another Diet Coke and he told me refills were not free. This seems very cheap for a restaurant that is not, but I still wanted another. I was at this restaurant for lunch a few weeks ago and don’t remember this to be there refill policy. Our waiter just seemed annoyed. I had the flat ironed pork special that our waiter recommended and it was just plain not good - really dry and flavorless even though it had sauce over it.
Good service and good food! I have already recommended this restaurant to others.
We were visiting Chicago for spring break. Decided to visit this place to celebrate our daughter's 13 bday. Beware that if you are not dressed well the service is gonna be pretty bad. Since we were on a road trip we were mostly carrying jeans, tees, fleece. The service was very poor. We were still working on the salad when the server got the main course and just decided to take the half eaten salad without asking. The server got the check and when we paid it he came and quickly grabbed it. When we saw the tip was just 10% he made it obvious that he was not happy. Overall a bad experience after spending over $150 on a meal.
Really great meal. Everything was fresh and the service was great!
Very nice place, we will be back soon
Everything about this place was wonderful! There are so many places to choose from in Chicago but this one is a gem.
Service felt rushed right from the beginning. Food was good, not great. Very noisy now that they have crammed as many tables they possibly can into the space. Just not a comfortable dining experience. There's much more out there to choose from for the money.
The food and the environment of this restaurant are very nice. I have only had lunch hear so I do not know about the place for dinner. The service is quite good and friendly. The location is a bit out of the way but convenient for parking as they have their own parking lot. I would recommend this restaurant for very good Italian food.
Great, friendly, professional service and the food is always spot on. Can't miss bringing out of town guests here. Always impressive.
Very welcoming. Hearty and seasonal food.
Love all there.....SANTA goes there.....
I'd been wanting to go here since I saw it on Check Please! years ago. The salads were delicious and the pasta did not disappoint! The short rib and rabbit were slightly dryer than we would have liked, but the flavors were wonderful and made up for it. Save room for dessert. The restaurant was a little loud for a business meal, but great for a group of friends. Service was great. Our waiter had great recommendations including a better bottle of wine that was a great value compared to what we originally ordered. I will definitely be back to check out the patio during the summer!
The food was awesome—-almost like being in Italy!! The service is impeccable!!
Went to Piccolo on Saturday 3/26/2018 for an anniversary dinner. The host was friendly and seating was quick. When we sat down we were immediately thrown off by the servers welcoming. He had asked for our drink choices and when my wife said she was having a sprite he immediately swiped her wine glass and when I said I was still browsing he turned around and walked away. I had flagged him down to place my drink order and get a side of cheese for the oil. He looked at me strangely and then walked away. Minimal to no interaction. When he came back with the drink he had told us about a special on the menu and we had asked to place an order for an appetizer. He told us that since the food takes a while to make he would rather us order everything at once. He then said I’ll give you a couple of minutes and just walked away. It was more of a demand. The reason I decided to walk out of this reastaurant after this is because the table next to us was treated extremely different in a similar scenario. They had told our same server that they would like to enjoy their wine and appetizers without any pushback or hesitation from the server. As a younger adult compared to the older people next to me I felt discriminated by my age and not taken seriously by the server. At the end of the day Italian reastaurants are supposed to be invinting and welcoming. My money was just as green as the people next to me and all I felt was the server was just trying to turn us around and out the door so he can get a new table.
Love Piccolo every time. Favorite place in the city for any occasion.
