Pigeonhole Ratings and Reviews
Several servers and a bartender touched our table — none were knowledgeable. The bartender was unfamiliar with the wine list, and the servers did not know the ingredients in the dishes and gave incorrect information. I am celiac and one server thought flour and gluten were (always) the same thing. Additionally, the portions are tiny — there were maybe six (unshelled) mussels in our mussels appetizer. Pretty disappointing, training staff on food and wine knowledge is clearly not a priority.
Great wine and food selection. Waygu tartar was excellent
Menu has lots of good options and some not so great options. Defeiently try the cabbage and the dumplings!!
Good food and very fun atmosphere. Service was amazing!
Delicious food and even more amazing wine list.
This restaurant is definitely on our “favourites” list. Everything about it is outstanding.
The music was too loud and it was difficult to carry on a conversation with my dinner guest. I find that more and more and it could just be a reflection of my age. However, as far as the food is concerned, most of the plates we tried were very good. The schnitzel was an exception....plain, very expensive and nothing special. The walleye was disappointing as well, just battered fish with a nondescript sauce. As the other plates we tried were good to exceptional, I was very surprised that these two dishes even made the menu. The golden beets, warm kale salad, red kuri squash and mussels were all very tasty. The apple toffee cake for dessert was also very good and quite unique. Overall the food was good. We did go at New Year's and the special invitation on the booking inferred there would be champagne but that didn't materialize. Be sure to contact the restaurant to clarify any details and don't be afraid to ask for a more detailed description of a dish in question.
Excellent pre-ny's dinner with neighbors. Everything was excellent on the coldest night of 2017!
Our small family took my brother who lives in Toronto out for a delicious meal experience and we were all glad we chose Pigeon hole. The service was friendly, and accommodating. Our server who guided us on our culinary adventure explained each dish in detail and highlighted some of the unique flavours we could expect in each one. My brother who has had some experience with some of Canada’s most renowned restaurants was impressed. Thank you Pigeon hole for such a great experience.
4 of us went to Pigeonhole for a work Christmas celebration and it was fantastic. We were looking for a fun interactive tapas style place where we could still chat and socialize while eating and it did not disappoint. The menu was fantastic, everything we ordered was delicious and our server Justin was great!
We will most definitely be back!
Amazing food and amazing service from Justin. Will be back to see him ASAP! Loved the Pappy Bourbon recommendation from him.
A really great experience! Service was amazing. Will be back!
I found the server did not give good advice on portions so we over ordered, almost double what we needed. The dishes had promise, but with additional sauces and toppings were too Rich, aside from the beet salad which was perfect, dressed lightly and interesting combinations of beets.
Ultimately, we left Disappointed and empty of pocket leaving behind doggies bags of food we couldn’t face taking home
Went with some friends. The food was fantastic. We ordered the cabbage because I had read in several reviews that it was good. It was delicious! We also had the ricotta dumplings, raviollo, short rib, beets, and sourdough bread. The entire meal was delicious.
Nice ambiance but a little too noisy for quiet conversation. Kept asking my wife to repeat herself. Food was good but not great. Would have liked it to be a little warmer. My wife enjoyed it more than I did. Service was excellent! A pleasant dining experience.
Sarah and the staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. Service was on point. Keep up the great work. Team work makes the dream work
Pigeonhole never disappoints! Thank you to our server and the bartender for accommodating our cocktail requests that weren't on the menu.
Amazing food and amazing service. Truly one of the best restaurants in Calgary.
Good food, lots of vegetarian choices
Absolutely fantastic. A very busy and high paced atmosphere but still somehow so relaxing. Feels very casual but the attention to detail here is of note. Food was 100% on point, this is what fine dining should be like in my opinion.
Always great to go back to pigeon hole and share it with friends who hadn’t been before. The charred cabbage is the star as always but the duck pancakes came in at a close second for best bites
Our waitress was exceptional. Food and wine were excellent. Our only concern was the noise level. They turned up the music at 9:00 PM making it impossible to have a conversation. It always makes we wonder why restaurants do this. When having a dinner party at home, you would never have the music even half this loud. We cut our evening short because we couldn't talk to each other.
Absolutely phenomenal! Loved our meal and can’t wait to come back!
I loved the ambience of the restaurant but was disappointed with the food. The charred cabbage dish was the biggest disappointment....a mountain of cheddar cheese was piled on top of the delicious cabbage. Unfortunate because the food is not cheap.
Great atmosphere, Tasty food but small portions. I am getting tired of the small portion scene in Calgary.
Great food and service as always.
Pigeon Hole was phenomenal and the cabbage is a must have. We will definitely be back for more. Ambiance is good and the service was prompt. Sometimes can take a while for your order to be processed, but we didn't mind the wait.
This is an excellent restaurant on 17th. The menu is always fresh, interesting and original. The staff are well trained and knowledgeable. Excellent atmosphere is what one notices right away, with amazing food.
The cabbage and mimolette dish: why was the mimolette so soft? It's supposed to be a very hard cheese ... the mayonnaise inside the dish made it way too rich for us. We could not finish the other dishes. But we loved the wagyu tartare !
We will come back. Cool atmosphere, decor friendly service. The bar was a bit smelly... better look into that.
Awesome. All around!!! Food, cocktails, wine and service. And our waiter went out of his way to find the perfect wine for us. Ae really felt taken care of.
Pigeon Hole had the cutest ambiance and best food. The golden beet dish was amazing!!
We had a most enjoyable meal. The menu options are interesting and the wine list has some unusual choices. The service was excellent. Would definitely dine here again.
Food and service were incredible!
My first visit to Pigeonhole was absolutely fantastic. Love the atmosphere and design of the restaurant. Very cool and trendy. I was entertaining a friend from out of town and she was very impressed. We had the fish tacos, ricotta dumplings, flank steak, charred cabbage and beets. Everything was fantastic. The ricotta dumplings were definitely my favourite! The charred cabbage was delicious however our only critique was the presentation (covered in shredded cheese and didn't match the the delicateness of the other dishes). Overall, amazing experience and will definitely be back!
First-time at Pigeonhole and it was great! All of the sharing plates we had were fabulous! Service was great, our server was knowledgeable and made excellent recommendations. We’ll be back!
The food was good. Service was excellent. The music was too loud and seats were very close.
If you don't like the Pigeon Hole then you're pretty much an idiot who shouldn't be allowed to go and eat in nice places.
Amazing, creative cuisine and extraordinary knowledge from the server (Sarah) made this a truly great dining experience. The kitchen completely nails combining exciting tastes, as well as textures, with the good choice of dishes - whilst retaining class and grace. The extensive wine list (with awesome advice from Sarah) was always going to have something to cater to the palette and compliment our culinary choices. The dining and restaurant space itself is super-cool, but not trying too hard to find a style or create brand. It does't follow any trend or pattern which makes it interesting and unique to be in. It is a tiny bit quirky and maybe a little bit eccentric, but not junky or goofy, remaining tactful and precise. It is well laid out, but doesn't feel regimented. And the open kitchen space creates amazing atmosphere coupled with the great track list from the record player and sweet art pieces. An easy, pleasing space to be in whilst being served brilliant food.
Sarah was one of the best servers I've had, I hope you are lucky enough to have her host your meal when you visit this place (because if you don't then you may as well idiot yourself into the bracket that I opened with in this review).
Food was fabulous and very unique. Our server Sarah was outstanding to help with ordering appropriate quantities for our ladies night which included one GF diner. The one small problem was the music being a little bit too loud for visiting. Fortunately the tables are small and intimate to make visiting still possible. Well worth the effort to deal, with the 17th road 'destruction'.
Fabulous flavours. Great recommendations. Will definitely visit Pigeon Hole again.
A great room, very congenial service at the bar counter, for food and recommendations. A menu for sharing .
