Closed Sunday and Monday
Enjoy this neighbourhood restaurant, friendly staff and good food and wine.
Great value in a very intimate setting. The house red (Montepulcuano) was outstanding!
This is our go to restaurant for Italian food. Love that the salads are served on cold plates, the hot food on warm plates. Food is fresh and very tasty. Tables are quite close together and when full the restaurant can be quite noisy.
We were so glad to see that Portobello was open again and were delighted with the excellent food and service! We'll be back before long.
Portobello is our go to Restaurant prior theatre. If we lived in the area, it would be added to our favourite comfortable restaurant. When mussels are on the menu, you know they are fresh and tasty. If their homemade cream lemon is available for dessert- lemon affectionato’s must indulge. In fact, these comments define all their food choices.
Wall decor changes with images from local artists.
A wonderful Italian dining experience.
Most enjoyable evening will definitely be back. Food is excellent.
Great food with a good selection.
Service is friendly and meals are served in a timely manner.
There is no rush so you can enjoy your dinner.
Great dinner with superb service and memorable food
This was a cozy restaurant - very pleasant atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and excellent food for reasonable prices.
We happened upon this little gem several years ago when we were visiting Vancouver and staying within walking distance. We were thrilled that we could get a reservation on a Friday evening as this is where my wife wanted to celebrate her birthday.
Like our previous visit, the food was freshly prepared and cooked to order. The four of us each ordered something different and everyone was delighted with their choice.
A definite place to eat!
The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, but it has great food!!
Great food as always.
Portobello never disappoints. The food is always excellent and the service is friendly.
The pasta was very good, but a little too skimpy on the clams.
We have been attending the theatre for many years now and have never tried this restaurant. It's now #1 on our list of places to go for dinner before the show. It is the best Italian food I have had in years. Each of the 4 people in our party had different meals and desserts and every single one got rave reviews. We'll be back!
Very accommodating varied dish for my granddaughter
The food and service here has always been great. The staff are invested in the restaurant and have made for a consistently lovely experience.
Varied Menu. Something for every taste.
Good atmosphere and great service.
Service was good by servers who have been at this restaurant for a very long time. Meals were very tasty and ample servings.
Going to see Mama Mia
A little decorating would go a long way; a few nice paintings or photos of Italy, some plants and maybe change the seating configuration, too much like a schoolroom.
When in Vancouver we always go at least once to Portobello. Fantastic Italian food.
The food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. The chef came out and asked us how we were enjoying our meals, which was a nice touch. The decor is a bit dated. They are definitely not trying to attract the hipster crowd. It feels like an established restaurant. Being right on Broadway is a bit unfortunate. But really, none of that matters if the food is good. Would definitely go back and recommend this place.
Wonderful risotto di mare - well worth it. We enjoyed it a lot.
The food as always was excellent. Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals from the crisp Caesar salad to the rhubarb and strawberry compote. My veal Marsala was outstanding. Highly recommend this restaurant.
We enjoy this neighbourhood Italian eatery.
Family atmosphere and wonderful food.
The gnocchi is "the best" ... and the house red is great.
Great food and great service, very authentic Italian restaurant. highly recommended
The Food: was AMAZING, one of the best places that I've had real Italian cuisine.
I'm usually hunting good Italian places.
The 'burrata' is incredibly excellent.
The pastas were on point 'aldente', the portions were abundant, they can even make a half portion for children.
The sauces on the pasta were the right amount and thickness, not watery, or dry either thick.
There are vegetarian options.
Rosa is the person who makes lovely and delicious desserts. She came to our table few Times to make sure everything was right.
The place: small, cozy but abit dark
The service: was Superb 👌
We visit often and enjoy the family atmosphere.
The pasta is wonderful and the house red wine superb.
Our dining experience here was very far from Italian. The food was not prepared in a Mediterranean manner. The antipasti was very oily, consisted mostly of pickled vegetables and then some cold salami and prosciutto. No genuine feel to it at all. Following this we all had decent dishes - ossobucco, veal, meatballs, and pasta Carbonara. Most of it was rather tasteless, not bad, but simply very far from the real Italian kitchen. Maybe if you have never been to Italy and actually tried the food there this restaurant could be ok, but if you expect something genuine, I suggest you head somewhere else. The service was nothing special, but ok.
As always, a pleasure to visit! Such good food, and good atmosphere.
Great neighborhood authentic Italian place with friendly service and delicious offerings. No air con which made it very warm one day but I’d still be back for the above reasons!
Lovely Mother’s Day meal. Friendly but professional servers. Attentive and friendly manager. Overall good experience.
Great restaurant. Close to the Stanley Theatre. Food is authentic and tastes great. Restaurant staff are very accommodating and efficient. Been there many times and will continue to be a patron.
Simple Italian food. Good service. Fresh ingredients. My 8 years old girl loves the clam pasta. Will go back!
This was our first night in Vancouver. We had a wonderful day and a wonderful dinner here. We would certainly return on our next visit.
Always a pleasure -- delicious food, lovely family-owned place!
This has been a favourite of ours for over a decade. It's fabulous that the owners are always right in the restaurant. They know us. Their food and service is personalized and exceptional. Our main fear is that the next time we pass by there will be a "for lease" sign on the door, indicating yet one more local business will be driven out by expensive condo developments. And we hope this will never be the case.
Had the 3 course special meal and enjoyed it very much.
We went here for dinner before going to the Theatre and it was "ok" overall. We had a variety of appetizers and pastas and salads in our group. For the most part everyone liked their food, however I think it was a little too oily and not as refined as an Italian restaurant should be. Our waiter bumbled through service and didn't really know how to time the ordering and drinks. It's also very cozy so it was awkward for him to maneuver around our table. Overall it was overpriced for what we got. Unfortunately there aren't a lot of options in this theatre district so we may be back, however only out of need for food before entertainment!
