Promenade Cafe and Wine
French comfort food and local ingredients is the basis ever-changing seasonal menus. Our restaurant menu focuses on Winnipeg's local and French community in our restaurant menu.
The inspiration for the dishes range from local ingredients, tradition of the Francophone French Community of Winnipeg and comfort food preparations.
We are dedicated to utilizing local and regional products wherever possible in our dishes. The is nothing premade in our Winnipeg restaurant including all of our scratch made desserts. You will certainly see this reflected in the freshness and quality of our French cuisine.
Beef bourguignon was like an "ordinary" stew, beet jce ran into other vegetables, not very appealing!
Pate appetizer was fantastic.
Unfortunately the chicken dinner was raw. The server asked how we would like to resolve the issue, but I think that it should have determined by management themselves. It is a huge concern when food is prepared in a manner that could pose a health risk to the customers. I am pregnant so to be exposed to such risks are highly concerning. I feel that this is a matter that should NEVER have occurred. I will not be returning.
Waitress was very accommodating
This place keeps bringing me back every time! L'ambiance, la cuisine, et le service sont extraordinaire!
Our meals weren't as good as we remember from previous visits but still pretty good. Our server was very good, friendly and efficient. We particularly like that it's quiet enough to visit easily. We were surprised how cold it was and it took a long time to warm up, something we are likely to remember next time we choose a restaurant; false economy.
We sat in the section by the door and found it pretty cool. I had the French Onion soup and it was just OK The Reuben was pretty good but over priced. I’ve had better for cheaper. The soup of the day was real good. My wives mussels were just OK too. Mike our waiter was very nice and helpful. He was the highlite of our lunch.
the fish with rice and cauliflower is served cold, the fish is hard and overcooked. Food taste is not good at all . The only thing that is positive is the waiter that served us. It’s a joke to call it French Restaurant. They need to hire a chef!!
In the reservation we asked to be seated with a view... had hoped this would be in the main dining area, as there seemed to be lots of time available for reservation. And this is where we've been seated in the past with these special requests.
But we were seated in the Front space near the kitchen. It was noisy and we were seated at a table that did not even have a window.
Just a bit disappointing.
The food at this restaurant usually leaves me wanting more but not this time. Had the trout which was too soft. I have had this on many occasions at this restaurant and this was the poorest offering.
This restaurant is terribly overpriced for what you get.
The food was not great, the tortier tated burnt and was dry, the rest was bland, except for the brussel sprouts, they were really good. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I definitely expected more. Our waitress was out of sight for most of the evening, even when I was trying to get the bill to get out of there. The view was beautiful though, which was the best part of the experience.
party of 6 mid morning weekday
Rez and seating was on time and/or early - water poured right away
5/6 orders placed and coffee delivered promptly (one person late)
Food was cold /just warm and bacon and ham burnt.... offered fresh ham, but diner requested whole meal at same time.... after it was delivered, the service did not check in to see if everything was ok.
I think there were just 2 servers but the place was not full, and certainly before lunch crowd arrived.
Sound in lePromenade is not the best but I’ve always enjoyed this establishment and food/coffee - a little bit of follow up could go a long way
Well prepared and tasty entrees.
Haven't been disappointed in many visits.
Everything was great from start to finish. Greeted warmly at the door like we were friends and a goodbye and thanks for coming in on our way out. Our business felt appreciated. I had the french onion soup and mentioned it was so hot I couldn't eat it yet and was so hungry after a long day at work and the waitress returned with an ice cube for me! What a nice touch.
The only complaint is please keep a traditional creme brulee available at all times. I am not a fan when you add flavors.
Wait staff were very substandard. We had a reservation and had to wait well beyond our set tome despite empty (but uncleared) tables being available. Once finally shown to a table we were left with a single menu and eventually I got up to get one myself from the front. Tea came quickly but the waitress then disappeared and we ended up asking a clearer what the specials were. She was unsure but asked for us. When the waitress finally came back to us I asked about the ingredients in the quiche and she had to check. Mote waiting. Food took long considering it was just a quiche and an omelette. Getting the bill took a long time too. If it had been busy I would be understanding. But it wasn’t. New, more efficient and knowledgeable staff is needed.
Our server was so kind and accommodating and while there was some chatter in the dining room it was not disruptive. The Ambience is always very cozy and comfortable. One of my top picks in Winnipeg!
The food was very tasty but was served lukewarm
Didn’t feel rushed
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Meal was lovely...I had the quiche. Salad was fresh. Waitress was very efficient and accommodating. I think good value for meal.....however, wine list a little on the pricey side. I thought the $15 for 6 ounces of Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio was a little ambitious. However I would definitely go back
Finally me and my husband received a good table overlooking the city for our anniversary. The food was great, and we will definitely be back.
Underwhelming. Mediocre food and service made for a disappointing evening.
Great food, as always
The food was delicious, service was good. The waitress was slow to bring dessert, but it was so delicious I didn't care. The parking situation is not great and the parking lot had a giant pot hole. I would go back.
Very nice lunch. Only complaint was a few bits of old slimey lettuce bits hiding in my salad. Otherwise excellent.
Everything was fine but for some reason
They installed a window in the dining room during lunch hour
This should never happen
Service was very disappointing. Our server ignored our table all night to the point of embarrassment. This was a Birthday dinner and it was ruined by his total disregard for us! I will
Not be coming back!
Promenade Cafe is just over the pedestrian bridge from The Forks to the French section. It is in a small strip mall. There are two parts - one a little more formal. The decor once was nice, but is getting old. Needs paint and some sprucing up. That said - the food was outstanding, the wine list very good and the chef very entertaining and accommodating. There were a few large groups there and everything was ready and yet our small group felt cared for as well.
The restaurant was recommended for lunch. We had not been there before and really enjoyed it.
Service was really good and food was really good. Will certainly return back again, perhaps for supper the next time.
The Promenade is always a fun experience. I have celiac and have never had a reaction. I do find their scrambled eggs are slimy with an oily texture and never fluffy. This has been the same on 2 occasions. Next time avoid the eggs. Their food is consistent.
Wine is very expensive...over priced. Needs more main course selection.
An amazing dinner, all the food was delicious and so beautifully presented - and the service most excellent (thank you, Michael, for being so entertaining and efficient!)
Food was excellent but the wine was way too expensive. $55 for a carafe and $20 for a 6 oz. glass of wine was a little outrageous. Everything else was fabulous, even the wine. So hard to feel bad. But there are other venues out there where we can get 6 oz. glass of wine for half that price. That is my only beef and perhaps they may take notice if more favourable feedback is given to other potential customers.
Always great food and service. The French onion soup is really good, and the salads were also very good.
I had a lovely lunch at Promenade Cafe and Wine on August 22. It is a lovely place in which to eat. It’s nice to find a restaurant where you are not trying to talk above the “background” music!
I came for lunch with a friend in a wheelchair. The servers thought that the bathroom was “probably” wheelchair accessible. Indeed the wheelchair fit in the bathroom but the toilet was not readily usable. The food was OK - the servers needed to be reminded about certain requests such as dressing on the side, eggs on the side. The noise level was very high at the beginning as the restaurant was busy but quieted down later after 1:00 pm. As a short person, the chairs were extremely uncomfortable - we had quite a long lunch and my back was achy at the end. It would have been helpful if a server had volunteered to hold the door open when we left.
My new favourite restaurant! Devine food. Wonderful attentive service.
A welcoming and comfortable setting for a group of friends who hadn't seen each other in three years. Delicious food, drinks and dessert. Fun memories were made that night thanks to the terrific service.
very slow service, and the food came out for4 people piecemeal over 3-4 minutes. I ordered my eggs basted with medium yolks. They came cold and overdone.
3 out of 4 meals were over cooked. 2 ordered the pork tenderloin medallions which had nice flavour but were dry & tough as the pork was over cooked. Another had the tourtiee & it was very dry even with the gravy & it seem like the meat was almost burnt. Very disappointing as we had been here in several years.
Had higher expectations but overall good experience. Bread with herb garlic butter (menu item) delicious. Overdone shoestring fries with so-so mussels (daily special flavour). Bison tourtiere decent; beef bourguignon good; vegetarian dish so-so (portobello list in rice creme brûlée and blueberry cheesecake excellent.
It was awesome as usual. Love this place for Sunday brunch!
