Executive Chef Domenic Tudda spent his childhood years learning of Italian cuisine while his family owned and operated Stromboli's restaurant in Calgary. He furthered his education by undergoing extensive culinary training in Italy and has been able to continue his parent's legacy of bringing unique and incredibly authentic Italian dining to Calgarians. One of the most revered of these ventures is Ristorante Pulcinella, where Domenic first earned distinction when his international training crossed borders and entered Calgary in the spring of 2006. One of the few APN (Associazione Pizzaioli Napolitani) certified pizzerias in the world, Domenic has been able to showcase his culinary skills, incredible wine knowledge, and passion for Italian cuisine to provide Calgary with a truly artistic, original and delicious experience not soon to be forgotten. Certainly not your classical North American pizza, it's definitely different, but definitely delicious.

Pulcinella Ratings and Reviews
The food and wine selections were delicious & service was friendly and efficient. The noise level was so high that it was hard to hear each other at our table at times, so I definitely wouldn't recommend it for a romantic dinner or a first-date where you're trying to get to know someone - at least on a Saturday night.
The food prices weren't bad and the wine-by-the-glass prices looked pretty good, until I realized they were for a 5 oz. glass, which made them on the higher end for casual dining in my opinion.
Food is amazing (as is the wine). Service was great as well. We sat up stairs and the room was quite cold and the booth was a little awkward. All around a great experience.
After making a reservation and finally finding parking we go in for the reservation and there is a wait...guy at front kind of laughs when we said we were there for it... defeats purpose of reservation. If we did not have somewhere to be and had extra time we could have waited I guess.
Based on other reviews wishing we could have tried this place but ultimately there are many options in Calgary and not overly concerned as many great places that accept reservations when you make them and do not overbook.
We love Pulcinella, go there fairly often. Love the pizzas, the ones with tomato sauce,
love the pastas, salads and appetizers. I frequently make my dinner from the delish, spicy calamari and the arugula salad 'cause it has melon in it, too. Salad and good protein, it's
my kind of meal! Can't offhand think of fave pizzas, but pretty much any of them do the
trick, love the Neopolitan crust, too. Nice people, always cheerful and helpful. And very fun, you can tell by looking at the other diners that they're as happy to be there as we are, and that's always a good recommendation -- a restaurant filled with happy diners. It can be a little noisy with lots of happy people laughing and having fun, but we like happy noisy!
It was noisy hard to have a conversation. The pizza"s were all soggy in the middle, service was flow - this restaurant was average at best.
Amazing service and food. I'll definitely be coming back. Ingredients were fresh and the gelato was authentic -rich and creamy. Our server was wonderful and friendly. Thanks for a good night!
Friendly service until I sent back my pizza. The wild mushrooms seem to be from a can and not tasty. Said they would redo and I got the same thing boxed. $24 bucks for a medium take out pizza. Way better pizza and better value elsewhere in the city. Famoso and cibo for example. The other diners with me enjoyed their pasta and pizza.
Amazing food. Amazing service. Can't wait to go back!
While the pizzas and calamari were very good when adding the cost of beer and wine, which are both expensive we could have gone to a more upscale place and not spent any more.
Wine bottles are over priced.
That's it .
Other than that I'll be back!
Consistently good quality and service
My go to pizza and pasta spot in Kensington
The margarita pizza was a little underwhelming but everything else great. A little noisy for ongoing conversation.
Would I recommend Pulcinella to a friend? Depends on who's asking. We're a family with three kids who visited pulcinella on the advice of a blog which noted the restaurant as one of the "family friendly" places in town. Our experience was a mixed bag. Our own server was fantastic, friendly, and understanding of what it's like to visit a restaurant with 3 little kids, as were the chefs who worked around the oven making pizzas. But the host/hostess were nearly robotic in their interaction with us. We were also given the "who do these people think they are, bringing kids to a restaurant" face by the table next to us. So, if you're looking for an adult place to have drinks/pizza with friends before a night on the town, or a relatively romantic night out, this place is great. If you're a family looking for a friendly place to eat, Pulcinella is hit or miss.
Friends from the US were in town for the evening, staying in Kensington. We wanted something casual within walking distance. Pulcinella's was just the ticket. Friendly staff, welcoming ambience and an excellent, casual cuisine. Will definitely go back soon.
Would not return.
Great spot with great service and fantastic pizza!
The food was very good. Meatballs are enormous. Pizza has a great crust. It is busy, noisy and service can be slow.
Everything was "good", but nothing was outstanding... that said the prices were fair, the service was prompt, attentive and efficient.
This is my favorite place in Calgary. They are so proper without being pretentious. Food is always amazing! Ask Deven to help pick your wine if you're not familiar with Italian wines.
Excellent Pizza and Pasta! Excellent service. I will definitely go again! Good selection of wines and beverages. Nice and elegant ambiance.
Another wonderful meal at Pulcinella! The meatball appetizer was delicious and our entrees were amazing. Great service on a very busy Sunday evening.
Did not like the taste of calzone or the pizza- not to my liking; the fettuccini tasted aweful...again have tasted better...the calamari - did not like tomato sauce...unfortunately I have tasted much better dishes at other Italian restaurants. May just be my own (and my family's preference) but for the money I would rather go to PZA than here!
excellent overall experience, very welcoming and friendly!!
Lyndsay was great serving us 4, great work by all!
I am not a pizza lover but the pizza at this restaurant was great. Very helpful staff and attentive. Noise level was decent considering the openness. Nice friendly environment. I would visit this place again on my next business trip.
I love the place but the last time it was so noisy you couldn't hear yourself speak. Unusually it was a below par experience.
I come here every few months. best traditional pizza in the city. Excellent service and I love the room and I love walking through Kensington to get there
Awesome Pizza again this visit. I did not think that the pizza could get better but it has. The crust is always perfect and so is the gluten free crust my friend attests.
We visit often and the service is always excellent. We enjoy our time there.
The only downer for us is the noise level. However, we do ask for a table around the perimeter or in the bar which is best. The upstairs is closed but that would be a great option. We will be back often.
The food was disappointing...out of four meals, only the tortellini was really good. The thin crust pizza was mushy and the pesto pasta was bland.
Food was great. Server friendly. Noise level was high. Made it more difficult on a first date.
A friend and I booked for an early supper before Phantom of the Opera. Perfect location. Awesome food. The calamari dish was sprinkled with red pepper flakes and when the server found out I can't have spicy food, she brought a new serving. Delicious! My friend had the spicy one and loved it. It does get noisy with all the happy people enjoying their food and drink. Go earlier to avoid the noise if that's your preference. I will definitely return.
The service was outstanding. The food was amazing. The passion for the food shines through from the moment you walk in.
The food was delicious. I loved their dessert pizza.
The park that ruined the ambiance was that there was a hostess working who was perhaps newer and she was trying very hard, pleasant, helpful etc. Some of the staff particularly our waitress was being quite rude to her.
It's disheartening to see people being bullied in any environment.
Food is so good! Had the tortellini and margarita pizza. 👌🏼
Great lunch in a great setting! Our group of four enjoyed the food and the hospitality. Peter was an amazing server. Thanks!
Service was excellent. Attentive and always there when we needed it but never intrusive. Food was delicious. One of the best pizzas I've had in the city! And the Calamari was outstanding!
Great service. Pizza was fantastic. Watching pizza artists work with pizzas in wood fired oven great addition to ambience. Great wine selection.
Good food, great service (Peter was super nice). Even though we had a group of 12, we didn't wait long for anything. Definitely will go back. Thank you for everything!
As always, we were treated well and attentively. The food is well presented and delicious. There were a few new items that we were able to try. We still miss the Parmesan Tempura, but were happy with the salad special and other tasty options. The wine list is extensive and varied. Rob, our server, was very professional and intuitive.
The service was outstanding. All our needs were met and we had two babies with us.
