R&D Restaurant - Toronto
At R&D, eastern dishes meet western style in the form of modern Chinese sharing plates, where classic ingredients are given a vanguard treatment. The eclectic menu features bite-sized dishes like Grandpa's Fun Guo and CSB (char siu bao), and sharing plates like the Best Duck in the City and Laksa Seafood Chow Mein. An innovative and vibrant selection of cocktails complement the bold and playful fare.
To secure your order for the "Best Duck in the City" please make a note in the "Special Request" field when making your reservation.
Peking duck was amazing! The only critique I would have is value for dollar. For example bunch Mei was $12 and it was a slightly over toasted bun. The server was also slightly indifferent to our needs. Overall though great food and a nice place to bring a gang of people.
Very friendly service, great energy, and good food.
It was my first time eating at R&D and I immediately felt right at home.
The location was great and easily accessible. Upon arriving, the first thing I noticed was the music that set the tone perfectly, very upbeat and fun. By mistake, I made a reservation for 2 people when in fact we were 3. To my delight, the staff was very accommodating and arranged a table for us immediately.
Our server, Rio, was this extremely friendly and charismatic woman. She made our night with her beautiful smile, her entertaining stories, as well as her great drink recommendations.
The food didn't take too long despite how busy the restaurant was, which was a pleasant surprise. Food was great considering the price. By the end, we were all full with food to spare.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
An anniversary tradition for my wife and I. Amazing hospitality from Eric and his team at R&D. Thank you for taking great care of us!
A spectacular meal of elevated Asian cuisine, will definitely be going back.
The table beside us ordered the duck, and it looked amazing - will be ordering that next time (be sure to pre-order)!
Service was beyond great!
Food was delicious and interesting.
Drinks were different and tasted great!
Great duck - big enough for four!
We had a fantastic evening! Food was delicious and everyone was really kind! They even celebrated us!!!!!
Great food, service, and staff. Ill definitely return to this restaurant again. The fried chicken was delicious, the seafood chowmein was okay.
We celebrated my wife's birthday there. Spencer was amazing and helped us to have such an amazing experience. Unfortunately Chef Eric was away that night but we still have a great time. Definitely going back.
Great service, lovely staff, appropriate flirting with fit barman Spencer
R&D is my husband and I favorite restaurant! We’ve been coming here since we started dating. We always come here for a special occasion. The food is the best and the atmosphere is good. The service is exceptional! Highly recommended!
The ambiance (and the duck) of R&D makes the restaurant a must visit in Toronto.
Been there a few times. Loved it everytime. The food is excellent. My only comment today was the food was rushed. We ordered a few dishes and they just kept on coming out too fast. At time it felt like we could enjoy and savor it.
Excellent service from Michael and we were treated great by the entire staff. Amazing food and it was great spending time here with company for dinner.
Great evening at R&D. Service as always was impeccable. Food was excellent, we actually ordered more of the same at the same sitting LOL. Great spot for date night, business meetings or friends.
The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is great.I will definitely go back.
My husband and I had an incredible anniversary dinner at R&D. Spencer was one of the best servers I've ever had. Food was excellent and reasonably priced, given the quality.
Overall our experience was mixed. Some dishes were great -- creative, unique flavour, well presented. Others were bland or overdone (too much sauce or spice). In some cases it came across as though the chef was trying too hard.
Service was quite attentive, noise level was a bit high at times.
Not sure we'll try R&D again. For the money the value doesn't seem to be there.
Excellent! Explosion of flavours with every dish. Highly recommend it.
I was not impressed at all with the food, had much higher expectations from the reviews.
The service was perfect. Felt like a very welcomed guest. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Some of the best I’ve ever eaten. I will definitely return and I highly recommend. I found the prices very reasonable for both the quantity and quality of food
Genial. Buena cocina y presentación en ambiente moderno y cálido. Buenos cócteles y servicio atento. Muy recomendable.
CSB, Slaw, Octopus, teokpokki and Fried Chicken. The Icarus, Lychee Cocktail and West Indian Orange Sparkling Water.
Wish you success with the under 30 crowd! Noise factor impossible!
One of the best meals I've had in a long time...
Asiatic Fusion cuisine in a nice modern environment. Service is good.
This was our first time at R & D. We had been meaning to try out this restaurant for a while and it definitely got our thumbs up! Loved the CSB ( cha sui boa). Infact was the best we have had. The food was sooo good. Service was excellent and it was nice to have Eric Cheong come to our table (we had been a fan of him from his Master chef days). Can’t wait to go back. Next time we want to try the duck.
Food was disappointing, overly spiced without proper warning and the featured Peking duck was a huge disappointment
Some of the dishes were amazing, but others were completely bland with no originality (seafood chow main - why is this on the menu???). Service was rushed. Prices were high for the plate size.
They ran out of half the items on the menu. Service was horrible and slow.
I can't remember our servers name but he was a slim tallish white guy may have been blonde working the back left corner on Jul 26. He took very long and was less than pleasant once he realized we had questions and didnt want to order the way he suggested. I came there for the crab and he said he thinks its unavailable, we asked him to check and he never got back to us so two of us were pretty disappointed as the menu doesn't say limited quantities. The popcorn shrimp was bland, Beef cheek coleslaw was unseasoned and overall we weren't impressed with the food minus the one with Japanese rice cakes.
My friend was so excited to go there for her bday but sadly none of us will never be back.
Amasing Wok Lobster!
OMG! We just loved this place! The food was so interesting and exciting! As was the cocktails! If I lived here in Toronto this would be our regular hang out. The chef here is brilliant, as is the bartender!
A must for anyone living or visiting the Toronto area. We will miss you!
2 of us went for Summerlicious 2019. It was hit and miss throughout the meal. Some dishes excellent, some mediocre and some completely missed the mark. All in all a bit of a disappointment, and not one where I felt I received value for money spent.
Everything about our dining experience was fantastic, particularly our server Arthur was wonderful and made the experience very special.
Loved the food and service at the restaurant, the $6 cocktails were delicious too. Tried the summerlicious menu which had a nice variety, the crispy tofu dish was my favourite.
Amazing food!!!! Great service! Reasonably priced for summerlicious, would definitely go back and recommended to family and friends already!
I went with a friend for Summerlicious. We got great seats at the bar where we could watch the chef prepare the food. The servings were larger than I expected, which was nice, and everything tasted great! We had the bao and the shrimps for appetizers, the beef brisket noodle and the clams for entrees, and a Vietnamese coffee cake and a sort of tofu pudding for dessert. Great for sharing! My only complaint would be that the waiter, although he provided excellent service throughout the meal, was really pushy about getting my friend and I to order drinks. We only had water and he asked us (almost felt like he was pressuring us) 4 or 5 times to get drinks. Overall though it was a great experience, and I will definitely go back to try their Peking duck which looked delicious.
Great little spot on Spadina around the corner from home. Interested in coming back to try the duck which was being served at the next table and looked incredible. Very comfortable feeling and nice to try a new(er) O & B restaurant.
