   We sat out on the patio near the road. That’s the only reason the noise level was a little high. Otherwise, we had a wonderful dinner. The service was outstanding and the food was amazing. This was our first time here and we will be back.

   All of us live in the neighborhood and were excited to try 1417 for the first time. We all agreed we loved the food and our waiter Elijah and we will definitely return! The only negative was the cocktail and wine flow from the bar. It was noticeably slow and we all commented on it throughout the night. Hope this is helpful and see you next time!

   This is the second time I’ve been there. The first time was great. This time was great except my eggs were over cooked. I ordered over medium, but they were over hard. No yolk for my very dry extra crunchy toast. Other than that, it was great!

   Always will stop in a French Brasserie if I see one. Having worked for many years in France, I really just love the vibe and food of French inspired places. So I finally tried 1417 French Bistro and it did not disappoint. The menu was on point. I had the steak frites (only issue was the steak knife was not sharp enough to cut into the medium rare filet), and my dining companion had the duck confit. She loved her choice as did I. We also tried a side of the macaroni and cheese and the french onion soup. All in all it was a great night. Our server was great as well. Will definitely return as there were so many menu items I wish to also try. Yay for Austin having another great restaurant choice for this food lover.

   I liked this restaurant and appreciate what it's trying to do. It just did not quite pull it off. It took what was the prior Sway location and turned it into a French bistro, but didn't quite make the full transition and so now it looks a bit like a hybrid of those spaces. We were sat in a great location. We liked the menu and it had an interesting and fairly unique wine selection. The server was quick to come to our table initially. The salad and french onion soup were very good, as were the fries. The steak with the steak frites, however, while done to a proper medium rare, was tough, hard to cut, and largely flavorless, which is hard to fathom. It didn't make any sense to try to send it back though because it was cooked correctly, but the cut itself didn't seem to be very high quality. And as this was the main course that we shared, that kind of left us unimpressed overall. I've simply had much, much better food and service at this price point.

    They were out of mussels, could only cook the steak medium rare or well done, were out of the dessert we ordered- twice. Our appetizer was forgotten/ lost by the kitchen. It came out with our dinner after we asked our waitress about it. This was on a Monday for a 7PM dinner. I felt so bad for the waitress who had to keep coming back to tell us they were out of what we ordered. Everyone that worked there was really kind but the food we did get was not.

    Steak can only be prepared either medium rare or well done. No in between. The food overall is nothing to rave about so I most likely would not return. The ambience is nice.

    Everyone that we met was an exceptional help in making a memorable Mother's Day for my Mom. Val at the bar, Kaitlyn (sp?) our server, the very fashionable host whose name I didn't, the women who accommodated my Mom's flowers and found a vase for them when I had forgotten one. Every dish we ordered was delicious, but the stand-out was probably the beignets with blue cheese and pear chutney. I could not have asked for a better experience. Thanks!

    They do happy hour Monday-Friday! The drinks on the HH menu didn’t really appeal to me, but all the appetizers were 50% off which was amazing! Everything we ordered was superb- the escargot and deviled eggs were my favorites.

    Very poor representation of French food, all fronts. The escargot was dry. The bread was thin and dry, black salt was too large. Bone marrow was overly gelatinous and cold and bread toasts over uttered for such a rich item. Steak tartare was chopped too thick, stringy and tough. Steak frites cooking option too limited, fries were room temp. Decor inside was fine, porch set ok, far too many round tables. The outside brick should be refreshed from the old Sway colors - missing an opportunity to liven up the outside for a refreshing, fun feel. Lots of missed opportunities here, hope this helps.

    Not a restaurant I would recommend… nothing like any French bistro or brasserie pizza have ever been to. I lived in Paris and London and have eaten and many French restaurants. The place smelled dusty and we sat at the back… ac didn’t reach us. I think the aim was to reinvent a French artist attic atmosphere … nope doesn’t work. Service ok but nobody seemed to care at all or take much interest in you. We reserved for an anniversary dinner but nobody mentioned it. Food just average if not below! Salad too much sharp dressing and yes I have eaten salade verte many times! My husband had fish that was cremated, swimming in oil and very salty. My chicken was ok but very salty. We ordered a side of pommes frites and sent them back! The chef must love salt as everything is very very salty. No salt and pepper on the table. No bread offered. Please note the waiter did comp the fries when we complained but we gave up bothering to complain about everything else! Drink… wine was enjoyable but my Husband’s margarita was not good… he felt very unwell that night. So unfortunately our anniversary dinner was a total flop and was extremely pricey. The menu is very very limited so no excuse for the food to be as bad as it was. Sorry but I won’t be returning!

    Wow. So impressed by 1417- the entire experience was phenomenal. Best dining experience I’ve had an Austin in years! Service was excellent, portions were beyond satisfactory, flavors were unique yet familiar to French cuisine. Beverage selection was amazing. Almost don’t want to post this review because I don’t want it to become too popular :) they were so accommodating of our toddler!

    We had originally booked a table for 9.30pm but arrived early at 8.45pm. We booked this restaurant as they accepted late reservations. We were seated immediately which was great but by 9.15pm we had already had 2 courses served and told the kitchen was closing. We felt rushed, food was unavailable, soup arrived very late and in general it was very overpriced for the food. French Bistro is a loose term. Highly underwhelmed for $400.... Too many wonderful choices available so I won't return.

    Went here after my courthouse wedding with friends and family, we had a reservation but it looks like you can come in and be seated right away. The waiter was so accommodating and even gave us a free bottle of champagne to celebrate. Very attentive and the food was really good. Would definitely come back again! Thank you!
