Limited menu. Only 2 choices of seafood. It’s Tofino for God’s sake. COD was tasteless with a very small portion.

Overall, quite disappointing. In an empty restaurant, as a couple, we were seated next to a large and rowdy group (no slag on them - they were having a great time but the restaurant was empty so why not seat us away from the group?). The food was well cooked but under seasoned. Server knew nothing of the menu and was unable to answer most questions and those she did answer, she answered incorrectly. Our bottle of wine was spilled all over the table and chair and never wiped or cleaned up by the server. Desert, a skillet cookie, was a small cold and stale cookie, plopped into a hot skillet - not what we anticipated. For what it was, it was very expensive so generally poor value. We went based on this restaurant being short listed for En Route’s best new restaurants and were sadly disappointed and would not return.

We also went to Shelter and Wolf in the Fog the same weekend in Tofino and were thrilled with both experiences and would highly recommend both of those establishments for exceptional food, well crafted cocktails, beautiful service, and lovely spaces.

The "dinner" that I got was just an appetizer. Tiny piece of cod and some fondu. There was only one person ahead of us and we still had to wait over 45 minutes for our meal. We were told a 20 minute wait.
We hated the RAP music.

NOT impressed. Will not be back.

The food was excellent , we had coho and black cod , apple cobbler for dessert . I had never had black cod before but i tell ya if it wasn’t cooked on a cedar plank i would have licked the plate 😀 top notch five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ .

Our table was perfect and the food was good once we got it, but the service was so slow (we were the first and only people there for at least 15 minutes) and our food took so long that unfortunately the good food was not enough to compensate and we would not go back.

We were greeted by Oliver, a friendly informative host. Much to our dismay we were shunted off to a waitress who appeared to care less about the guests and service. We had to track her down for everything we needed. The bus person actually cleared our table because she thought we were finished—we had no food or drink. We had been ordering food each time we finished a couple of sharing plates. My son and his partner’s wine was finished as well. We wanted to try another plate and a dessert to share. While the food was so delicious we are not sure we want to attempt another disappointing evening. As the evening progressed my son became more and more upset because this was supposed to be a special time and the event was ruined.

Everything about 1909 Kitchen was outstanding, from booking through to arrival and dining experience.
The extensive wine list provided a lot of choice and all of the food options were absolutely outstanding. I adored the watermelon and feta as well as the broccoli dish.

2/5 dishes were very good, two were okay and one (pea shoots) had an unpleasant tasting creamy sauce. We would have sent it back if someone had come by or we could flag someone over. There were only two servers who easily became overwhelmed with a full room and little control on how plates became available from the kitchen. A youngish fellow (manager or supervisor?) did attempt to assist and became more of a problem, saying something offensive to our server, dropping swings for a table change and making things worse. Recommend you loose him, add a third server and support them properly. They have the right skills and personality for your business.

This was a very cool eatery. The watermelon and feta salad was outstanding and the pork meatballs not far behind. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that our pizza arrived cold. They very kindly rectified the situation though. It was great but not too fussy.

We were lucky enough to see a short write up about 1909 Kitchen in the Air Canada magazine and were going to be in the area so we booked it for our Anniversary dinner. We weren't disappointed. We had a great meal. We recommend it highly!

Beautiful setting and great ambience. Two of the four dishes we ordered were under-seasoned, making what could have been great just OK. The server was friendly but neglectful. Unfortunately not a standout experience.

Wow! This place is amazing! We loved all of our food selections but stand outs were the cauliflower, the broccoli, and the smoked salmon pizza. We enjoyed sharing dishes and getting to try so many items on the menu. The service was some of the best I’ve ever experienced, friendly and attentive without being annoying or hovering.

Halibut overbooked
Poor service Server never inquired about our meal
It took far too long to clear our dishes and only after being reminded; same long delay for bill
Our complaint about service and over cooked halibut was received flippantly
We observed that many diners were kept waiting too long for heir meals.We also met a very unhappy couple that actually left after waiting too long for their main course

Great unique menu (seafood/ local unique preparations and pizza?) all very good! Service was slow to start but improved as meal went on.

Went for lunch and served by Jennifer. One of the best experiences with a waitress. Extremely helpful, new the menu perfectly, helped my wife with all her allergies. Decided to book dinner. Again the best experience with the staff. Jennifer again served up and was spectacular, a second waiter attended sour needs and was fabulous. A waiter from Germany. The manager then attended our table and was so helpful. The food was extremely good there was no rush in getting us out even though it was busy. A great experience and will be returning and recommending to anyone we know who will be travelling to Tofino

Made reservations a few weeks ahead of our stay at the Resort/Marina. When we arrived, seating was no available - so instead of cancelling and heading into downtown, we accepted seating on the deck patio. Service was slow as they were over-booked. When drinks and food finally arrived, the evening improved.

Second night at Resort, we ate at the Hatch pub, attached to the 1909. Service was great, food was really good... next visit, we will pass on 1909 and head to Hatch instead!

Menu is a series of small plates. There is plenty for any culinary persuasion. All of the food was top quality. Wines available by the glass were excellent. And then there’s the view over the harbour - stunning

Great and inventive new kid on the block. We had the pleasure of eating at 1909 (Celebrating the year that Tofino became a town) after circumstances resulted in us cancelling a second visit to another notable restaurant in town. I can only say ... WOW what a surprise. There were a few glitches in our seating etc and the room is a bit spare, but the energy and enthusiasm of the staff made up for a rough start as well as the knowledge of the sommelier and the flexibility of our waitperson. The food was inventive, well prepared and served up efficiently, but not too fast. Timing is everything and this meal was definitely well timed with Kudos to the Chef for executing a perfect mise en place. The restaurant is up for an Enroute (Air Canada) award re best 10 new restaurants in Canada and honestly this comes as no surprise to me. Tips.. oysters good but not perfectly shucked. Wood burning pizza excellent, a meal for 1 or an appetizer for 4. We had the market fish (1 lb halibut in an achiote rub) perfect to share and da bomb. Small but well curated wine list with the Joseph Phelps Chardonnay as a perfect pairing for the Halibut. Food very fresh. Will definitely follow the course of this fledgling gem and return on our next trip to Tofino.

The food was good but didn’t seem worth the price and small plates. You need to order at least 2-3 plates per person so it’s about $50-70 pp for food. The gastropub has good food by the same chef so we ate at 1909 and went next door.

This is the best restaurant in Tofino. Worth every dollar spent. One of the signature dishes, halibut, was superb, the sides recommended by our waiter were just perfect. The dessert was perfect. An interesting wine list, even the modest priced were delicious.

Food was fantastic but server helped with portions which was definitely not enough for number of people in our group. Did not have enough food but did love the place and look forward to going back. Will know better next time!

Beautiful restaurant and great waterfront location. Food was good but the service was slow because is shared a kitchen with The Hatch. Hope it continues to thrive. Would’ve liked it to be a bit more busy.

It was my wife's birthday and they gave us a nice table in the window. We had mushrooms to start, which were delicious, followed by the 'catch of the day', halibut, which was just superb. We were offered dessert, but we're already pleasantly full, so declined. Service throughout the evening was attentive. A lovely night!
