1909 Kitchen – Tofino Resort + Marina
Amazing location on the water in Tofino. Great views of the inlet and fishing boats coming in. The food was so Fresh and tasty! Very creative dishes using fresh seafood, plus a real fire pizza oven.
Very much enjoyed our dinner. My wife and I celebrated our 41 st anniversary with our son and his wife at 1909.
The staff was knowledgeable and helpful in our menu choices. We really liked the tapas style of plate sharing to experience the very special tastes on the menu. The wood fired steak with morel mushrooms was prefect!
We also had a great breakfast the next day. 1909 is a welcome departure from other dining establishments in the area.
Pizzas were outstanding. Crab was way overpriced and they were out of crab forks so they gave us regular forks to scoop it (seriously?).... Dessert was average for the quality of restaurant. Appetizers were interesting, original and pretty good but not outstanding. Environment was nice but during sunset the sun can get in your eyes (depending on where you’re sitting) and there are no window coverings. Bottom line: next time I go I would focus on the outstanding pizzas; the best thing on the menu.
Wonderful food. Fantastic view. Chef Paul Moran even came to our table to surprise my daughter. Glad we came to check it out!
Loved it! Food was fantastic. Thanks Chef Paul!
Excellent food. A visit worth. We were there for dinner. Seafood great platter for two.
Vacation in Tofino! Food was excellent. Easy dining and good healthy options for children too! Our youngest daughter wants to be a chef- so meeting Paul Moran who was making homemade pasta that evening was a special treat! Fantastic decor in a beautiful bay side setting!
We stayed in Tofino during a 3 weeks trip in Canada from San Francisco. We were looking forward to dine at 1909 kitchen since Paul Mauran is a well known chef. We were very disappointed and I am ranking our diner the worth we had during our trip. I was not expected to say that the best dish we had at 1909 was the pizza that was not even special! The lamb kebab was too dry and a lot of different spices and flavors added to it that we could not feel the taste of lamb. The desert list was boring; we ordered the peanut-chocolate warm cookie with ice cream on top. The cookie was not better than the one I am baking from frozen dough at home.
Anyway I think this chef is overrated and seems bored of his own food.
Awesome spot. Will definitely be going back. Sea food perfection.
Good food and good service but a little pricey. It was nice to be in a location that overlooks the water.
Birthday with Family
Not to be missed in Tofino ! Un repas mémorable dans une belle ambiance.
It was so good the first night that we returned to eat there the second night. Very fresh fish and seafood. The Tuna bites are a must as is the crab. Pizzas were very creative as well
Location and decor of the place was pretty awesome. We had breakfast reservations for a table of 4 adults and 4 young kids. It took 45+ mins to get our food and by the time we got it the food was cold. The taste was good and fair size portions, but waiting that long plus they got the kids meals mixed up was a little displeasing. Maybe it was an off morning but definitely wasn’t a good first impression. Can’t say I’d return for their breakfast but possibly for dinner.
It was delicious but really slow. It look almost an hour for kids pancakes and then they mixed up our food.
Good food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, all ingredients for a good dinner
Really great dinner from the appetizer to the Main - an excellent menu and to offer Black Cod is a clear indicator of just how knowledgable the chef and kitchen is - clearly a destintion if you like to eat well.
Checked this out because of the executive chef’s reputation. Good service on a busy holiday weekend, we tried a number of dishes the best of which was the black cod, melt in the mouth and perfectly cooked as well as the baked sweet potato . Biggest miss was the squid stuffed morel which had a nice and crisp but rather bland. Overall great food, decent service but prices were very high.
Restaurant has stunning views and the food was 👌. With local cherries in abundance and being a huge cherry fan I ordered the Cherry Salad. Sweet juicy cherries beautifully balanced with slightly bitter Trevisio and salty Parmesan. Ordering this again when I return for a 2nd time tonight. Also Margherita pizza topped with a lovely Burrata cheese.
Outstanding food and service. One of the best meals my wife and I have ever eaten. Unique menu, every dish was masterful.
Food was outstanding on all levels as you would expect from one of Canada’s top chefs. Menu was diverse and very creative featuring local fare.
Service was very strong and the team was friendly, efficient and responsive. Hard to beat views across Tofino harbour.
All in all a fantastic experience and I highly recommend it.
crazy good food...fresh, creative, interesting flavor mixing...also, we had an amazingly knowledgeable waiter...loved the experience
Staff were very accommodating and attentive to our needs. Meal portions were inadequate, too small. We had the fish, which I doubt would be a shortage of considering the location. Tofino needs a few fast food chain restaurants to keep restaurant owners honest.
Hostess seemed annoyed that I booked a reservation online as they had no tables available but could “make something work” outside on the patio. The Food was excellent, to be expected by Paul Moran & team. Overall was a nice visit.
Amazing experience. Very original and tasty meals, we didn’t try the pizzas but they seemed excellent. We ate outside on the patio in front of the water. Service was great. We highly recommend, we’ll come back for sure!
Vacation in Tofino. Wonderful meal and great views!
The food was great, but the waitress we had was terrible. Close to 30 minutes before we saw or first set of drinks. She visited neighboring tables 2-3 times as often.
Food was great, but the service left a bad sour taste.
All around we had a wonderful memorable experience Celebrating at 1909 Kitchen. Plates were beautifully plated, Oysters were lovely, very accommodating to our food sensitivities, and meats and fish were seasoned to perfection. Surprised to see some overlap of elements, but overall food was delicious. Our server Irwin gave us great attention, very calm disposition despite a busy night at the restaurant. The view was spectacular. Great punctuation to our stay in Tofino!
Some of the items we had were salmon with a scallion and ginger relish, warm green legumes with sautéd fennel and Gala apple salad with aged cheddar. All excellent. We ordered one of the craft cocktails. We had not heard of many of the ingredients in the cocktails and asked about them. Management might have provided more education on the ingredients in the drinks for the wait staff. Our waiter was very willing to get whatever info we asked for though. He even got us a sample of one of the liqueurs I asked about. It was a great experience!
Really enjoyed the food. The view was great. The setting sun warmed up the space but it got a bit too warm at one point. We needed to leave for some fresh air. The prices were steep but I guess that’s what you get charged in Tofino in the summer.
I debated whether or not to post this but I feel I have to so that hopefully service can be improved.
I made a reservation as it was my partners birthday and he is a huge Top Chef fan. A week before our reservation I sent an email saying it was his birthday, noted a few allergies and asked if chef Paul Moran would be in the kitchen that evening. I never got a response.
2 hours before the reservation i called and the woman I spoke with confirmed she had my email and read back the details to me. She said we would receive a free dessert and it would of course have a candle to celebrate.
Upon arriving, a server greeted us wearing a dirty tshirt and gave us a drink menu which she then took back saying she "gave us the wrong one". She then read off specials that clearly had the allergens I noted and I reminded her of that and she said she would write it down.
I saw chef Paul visit many tables but he passed by ours multiple times which was right in the middle of the dining room.
Towards the end of the meal, I spoke with the hostess (not the same woman I had spoken to on the phone earlier) to reconfirm it was my partners birthday and requested a candle in his dessert. We ordered dessert and it came without a candle. When the server came back to clear our plates I asked her what happened and she said she was never told. She offered free champagne which we did not want and gave us a discount on our bill which we didnt request.
Worst of all, chef Paul never even stopped by once.
I've been to Nightingale a few times and Chef Phil personally delivered a few dishes. While I didn't expect that here, to not even have a hello from Chef was disappointing to say the least. Especially since I mentioned my partner 's birthday and that he is a big fan.
To me these are basic requests that any restaurant should be able to accommodate.
The manager called me afterwards and tried to make things right but unfortunately I don't think there was anything that could be done to fix this.
My experience started out on an odd note with the initial call from the restaurant to confirm my reservation. When they called the girl oddly asked” are you still coming ?” It was a bit off putting - almost felt like they didnt want us to. I have never had a call this abrupt before. However we did come. The food was ok. Really just average and very small portions. It is a sharing plate restaurant but that being said we ordered about 2/3 of everything on the menu and were still hungry. No quality check on the food until after we had eaten. I guess had just higher hopes with the recent win on Top Chef.
One of the best meals we’ve ever had in a beautifully designed space with gorgeous meals. All the staff were attentive and friendly, and our Waitor Ollie was fantastic. Great way to celebrate family, 80th birthdays and cancer survival. Only compliant is that you’re not in north vanouver 😊
Amazing service!! Amazing food!! Amazing chef!! Amazing view!! Amazing location!! What more to say for a dinner at sunset in June on the waterfront deck
Fabulous harbour setting and views.
Great food, cocktails, service, staff
Will be our go to Tofino restaurant
The restaurant is gorgeous and the view is fantastic. The service was friendly and engaging without being intrusive. The food was expensive for the sharing portion sizes, and not the most amazing food ever. Overall, we loved the atmosphere and view and had perfect service, but the food itself left us wanting a better experience.
Birthday for my husband. Was acknowledged and we had a window table.
The best fresh oysters I have had in years! Great service, good wine list and creative menu. Loved the Gala apple salad!
Wonderful!!! Congrats Chef D! Excellent!!! And to Danielle (I think that was her name?!) she was so personable, friendly, and efficient! It was a lovely evening! We will be back!!!
Very disappointing meal. It’s hard to mess up fresh local seafood, but they found a way. No flavor at all in the fresh seafood platter (oysters, clams, mussels and crab) that tasted like it was cooked in boiling water. Served it with a mignonette that was just red wine vinegar and cocktail sauce from a jar. Did not live up to the local hype and reviews at all.
