Had high expectations going here and it did not meet my expectations at all. It took over 10 minutes to be served water upon being seated. The server had "misheard" my order and instead of bringing 2 avocado toast he brought one. The avocado toast was gross. On top of the disappointing service and meal, they charge a COVID surcharge as their gratuity so I couldn't even opt out of not tipping for the horrible experience.

Food was excellent and the outdoor patio is lovely. The garden isn't as lush and beautiful as it used to be but nice nonetheless. With the southern exposure, more umbrellas would make seating more comfortable. Music overly repetitive, but other than that, a very enjoyable brunch.

I didn't know of this place until recently. Me and my boyfriend came for lunch. Nice patio space for a sunny day. European vibes. Pretty small and expensive menu. I ordered the Tomato and Mozzarella Sandwich. I give that 10/10 it was really good. My boyfriend ordered the chicken bowl. It was good but chicken was greasy because it was cooked like a Thai bowl. Small portion compared to other things in the menu.

We did see the brunch plates and looked really good and big portions. We wanna come again for the brunch. I think brunch is one of their strengths.

The new patio is amazing. We really enjoyed sitting outside and the couches look comfortable. I had the steel head salmon and it was one of the best salmons I've had, cooked perfectly

Vancouver Art Gallery on Robson square, nice west coast menu selection, what could be off?
We were the only guests, the room felt of an American gift shop/coffee shop rather than a bistro.
Our server wore jeans and many facial piercings, but was polite and responsive.
Oysters, sable fish and beef all nicely presented, and quite pleasent.

We had a very good meal and glass of wine on the patio. The sunny weather added to the ambience created by your renovation and reorganization.

The 1931 Gallery Bistro is a welcome option in the midst of Covid limitations. Opening days are challenging for the venue but despite the overlong wait for our food and a problem with the bill which started at a very high amount and when fixed was much less, we look forward to going back - especially when the outdoor patio can be open. It was raining and cold on opening day of the Art Gallery. The young servers are polite and eager to be helpful, Covid protocols are clearly being observed and the limited menu offers excellent lunch options - for example, the cauliflower bowl and the tuna bowl.

It was a great location, great food and ambiance. However, seats were too hard, they need some sort of a cushion.

We had a reservation but didn’t need one! Due to Covid-not many people are dining out. They have an awesome patio area, but it was looking like rain so we sat inside.

They turned down the music on request as one of our party has hearing issues.

But as for the food: we had the salmon main- and this was one of the most wonderful dinners I’ve ever had. The salmon was cooked to perfection, the risotto creamy, the veloute sauce perfect and the fennel and greens were subtle. Every bite was exquisite- excellent array of flavours and combinations. Had it with a side salad that had the best vinaigrette dressing! (White balsamic?)
If you are a foodie-you have to check out this place!

The location remains great, and the ambience is nicer than in the restaurant that previously occupied this space. The service is okay, at best, and the food we had was so-so.

It's a nice bistro situated in the Vancouver Art Gallery. It's on the second floor overlooking Granville and Norstrom area. The bistro is quite and very suitable for friends gathering, girl dates and just hanging out with your buddies or even a light a business meeting. We went there for brunch. The brunch menu was standard offering - eggs benny, waffles, savoury selection etc. Their prices are fair considering it is in the heart of downtown. 1931 Gallery Bistro provides good value (cost vs food performance and overall atmosphere). The place is chic, clean and classic. The cuisine was what you'd expect from any brunch place. The portion was on the smaller side. I wish the portion could be bigger. Regardless, it's a nice place to check out for the curious diners, and I'd definitely recommend it to my friends and family.

Nice to be in the refreshed Art Gallery restaurant space. They are now have table service. We loved the previous cafeteria style, but this was nice and relaxing. The food was good with generous portions. Good value. The service was great!!

Maybe...I don't think there is enough range in the menu for those we might want to come in for a salad, or soup and coffee. I am afraid we came to love the array of choices that the Gallery restaurant offered before.

There are still some issues to resolve. Our food was taken by another staff member or not done at all. A very long wait for a simple meal of sandwiches.

My second time at 1931. The first time both meal and service were excellent. However this time food mediocre (as if a less able chef was making the recipes set by the originator).

We had our first dinner at the new Bistro' we were regulars for lunch at the previous tenant. The noise level seems higher than it used to be at the restaurant and it took nearly 25 minutes for our meal to arrive although wine came at once. The server was pleasant and the food was excellent. The portions are generous and indeed one is large enough to feed two if they wanted just a light meal. The idea of providing two six ounce glasses of wine to accompany the $45 Dine Out special was attractive although we did not take advantage of it this time.

I would but definitely not for dineout at $45.00. The food is ok maybe for $35.00 and under.. i usually loves eating creme brulee and choco mouse. But it was a disappoint this time.

My husband and I went for dine out vancouver the other night and everything was pretty good. I know they’ve recently opened and are probably ironing out kinks still so would definitely return again for another try. The issue for me was the fish I ordered came out like mush. I’ve never seen such a thing before! They had to redo it twice before they were able to get an edible piece to me. This one had nice flavor. They did comp just the entree portion of my meal, but it sucks watching your partner finish their meal long before you get yours. The bison ravioli was super good once I took off the olives that were stealing the show flavor wise. Dessert was an amazing, wintery creme brûlée.

We went here for lunch today to try it out for the first time. My husband‘s quiche was a tiny piece and it was burnt, and it came with some very lackluster potatoes on the side. Nothing else on the plate to garnish it, and not really very appealing at all. I ordered the shrimp sandwich on gluten-free bread which came with a very small salad, and it left a lot to be desired. The shrimp mixture was tasty, but very skimpy, and the amount of cucumber put in it amounted to maybe 1/10 of one slice of cucumber overall, and I’m still looking for the two kinds of lettuces that were supposed to be part of it. While it’s very nice to have a sit down option for lunch there with table service , the food was very disappointing compared to other places in the downtown area. Perhaps other choices on the menu are better, but this was nothing special at all.

Went to this place twice in one week - once for hot chocolate during off-peak hours and once for lunch during peak hours. Service was abysmally slow both times. This was particularly egregious during the off-peak visit. The food is fine but not so outstanding that it makes it worth suffering through the poor service.

A modern clean renovation of the much-loved “old” Art Gallery Cafe. Food was great! Our biggest worry is how popular will this new Bistro be during patio season. The former self-service style made it easier and cheaper!

An interesting experience. The restaurant was definitely in the style and fashion of a bistro. The food was excellent, but the service needs polishing. For example, the time between finishing our appetizers and getting our main course was almost 50 minutes. The server never came back to ask us if we wanted refills on our wine - we had to ask him ourselves rather than him offering to get new wines for our courses. However, the server did top up our water whenever he walked by. I would think, from a business point of view for a restaurant, you would want to be selling the alcohol and making sure the libations are adequate for the table.
