   Bread was a let down for the sandwiches it tasted and looked like a supermarket brand. Ordered a Bath Gin and tonic - no gin had to choose another. Soft drink ordered didn’t have it had to change. Pictures and advertised on traditional stands and it came out on plates Scones looked quite well done and so a lot of icing sugar or something was dusted over the top. Mostly macaron type pudding not a lot of variety Big party in so was quite loud Not recommending the afternoon tea

   Perhaps as a hotel dining room, they're only really set up for breakfast. Certainly we seemed to take them by surprise at lunchtime - even though we'd booked in advance. The service was perfectly friendly but very slow. Half an hour after placing our order the waiter came back to tell us that the chef's special had changed. The fish and chips were dull. The special 'tomato and prawn' pasta had a huge (and unadvertised) amount of chilli in it. To the waiter's credit, our drinks were knocked off the bill - but, at least at lunchtime, I'd give this one a swerve.

   It was Mother’s Day . Service was poor until the second half of the people that served us came along . Ordered 2 coffees and a bottle of water , first person got 2 out of 3 wrong Good design throughout restaurant and hotel in general but it seemed like it was a pain to serve us . Staff eating on duty ! Food was ok , as a bath resident I would suggest anyone staring at this hotel to go elsewhere for breakfast .

   Found this very basic. Booked it for a bride to be and there were no nice touches whatsoever. The afternoon tea was very basic indeed . The sandwiches for the non vegetarian some had just a piece of cucumber and another a tomotatoe and oepper well that to me is vegetarian. No effort put in whatsoever and I booked this over a month ago . Would not recommend or visit again so so disappointed and let done for my daughter in laws to be special day

   Lovely afternoon tea with my girlfriend. They very kindly gave her a glass of champagne on the house. The service was excellent throughout and the hotel itself is has a great look and feel.

   Good selection of food. Endless tea and coffee included which was much appreciated. Only reason not given 5 stars was that it would have been nice to have had three of everything as there were three of us. Great place to meet up would definitely recommend.

    I was asked to wait at the bar area, after waiting for around 15 minutes I asked what was happening only to be told my table had been cancelled because the chef hadn’t turned up…. Complete waste of time, definitely do not recommend. I also booked my table over a month before the date.

    We booked for 7.30 at 8.45 no meal. Waitress told us they didn't have one iofthe meals we ordered. 9.00 told no food coming out of kitchen and that the chef wasn't talking to anyone! No one who had ordered after 7.00 had any food. We were told if we could get in anywhere else to do so! The other table ordered Deliveroo! Felt so sorry for lovely waitresses!

    Only ones dining until Christmas group of woman came in, who were loud but it removed the silence and quite funny at times. Until then zero atmosphere. Door to outside kept being left open by staff making the room feel instantly cold. Different staff just wondering backwards and forwards constantly. Staff were dressed very casually like they’d just walked off street and didn’t look like they would work there. If we were not going to be charged due to a booking deposit we would have left before dinner. Food was ok but very limited menu and the whole experience did not feel value for money and felt disappointed with ourselves for spending so much on a meal and experience that was really nothing special and what was hoped Staff who waited on us though were good so can’t fault that

    This was a really nice experience with the exception of already opened and used jam pot on the afternoon tea plus a pot of marmalade instead of jam? This was rectified very quickly by staff and the service was excellent.

    Nothing like the photo on the website. Sandwiches made with all white sliced supermarket bread and must have been left out before serving as the bread had gone crusty (stale). Dirty cup and tea pot, sticky patches on the table. Scones were dry and only enough clotted cream for one (table for two). One of the cakes was very unpleasant (Victoria sponge - how difficult is it to get that right). If I hadn’t have paid in advance I would have sent it back. This should have been a special occasion for a sister who traveled almost 200 miles to visit. Very poor food, nothing like it was billed on the website and not worth the money paid. Avoid - queue for one of the other afternoon tea options rather than booking this in advance.

    It was fine, service wasn’t amazing. When we arrived had to go looking for someone to seat us. Our drinks took quite a while to arrive. The waitress kept on saying they were really busy when the restaurant wasn’t full at all. Overall the experience was fine but wouldn’t book there again.

    It was a disaster; there was absolutely no record of my booking even though I had the confirmation so that was an embarrassing start. We ate in the art bar which had a much nicer atmosphere than the restaurant (which was stark and empty) but the service was awful. It wasn't rude service, in fact I felt sorry for some of the staff. It was more that there weren't enough of them. Hard to get served, even to get a cocktail menu, waiting for orders, delays, run out of food. Halloumi with horseradish blobbed on one part of a bagel was not good. Then a leak in the ceiling. This was a 50th birthday celebration but it really ruined our evening and I felt awful because I had booked it. Very disappointing when it could have been so good.

    I wasn't able to book a table for 10 so had to book two tables of five. The reception staff seemed shocked that we had booked for food as if they didn't realise they did food and suggested we ask in the bar. A male at the bar took our details and said he'd let the kitchen know. 20 mins later he hadn't come back so I went to find him only for him to deny having ever spoken to me. We were eventually seated, in an otherwise empty dining room so they were hardly rushed off their feet. The food was hit and miss some we had to send back. The surroundings were lovely but the staff were clueless. Would not recommend.

    Very nice friendly service, plenty of offers of more tea and coffee. The afternoon tea was generous in quantity and the sandwiches were fine and the scones very nice but the rest of the items (a selection of cakes and an 'Eton Mess') were all very disappointing and we didn't eat them. The cakes were all very dense and tasteless (shop bought rather than made on the premises I think) and the mini 'Eton Mess' was just a glass of sweetened cream with one strawberry on top. The dining room was a big dark and depressing.

    Food was very mediocre for afternoon tea. Rough sandwiches varying in shape, scones microwaved to the point of hardened and had to be returned deserts barely defrosted and whipped cream rather than clotted. Tea was twinnings everyday no options offered. Other people walked out. Waitress was really nice and we felt sorry for her

    We had the afternoon tea, which was delicious, great choice of sandwiches and cakes. We were given a complimentary glass of Prosecco as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. It was quiet and relaxing in the bar which had beautiful decor and interesting works of art. Would highly recommend.

    We had a fabulous meal for our extended family. Tasty, great fresh ingredients, something for everyone and it was both delicious and hot! I cannot praise the Abbey Hotel Kitchen highly enough for our lovely meal. The staff were brilliant and we will most definitely be returning in the future

    To be honest I was a bit disappointed. It seemed a bit pricey for what it was. Beautiful surroundings and great service but food that was a bit ordinary. Perhaps Covid has had an effect with the amount of choice available as well.

    I booked the afternoon tea for myself and my mother who I was treating to a few days in Bath. The tea that was served bore no resemblance to that advertised. It was Sunday afternoon, so perhaps the advertised tea things had run out and been substituted but no effort was made by serving staff to explain this. Frankly, £23.00 per person for a small pot of tea which was served in chunky unsuitable cups, (we had to ask for a refill since no one checked if we wanted one), 2 slices of bread each to make 4 finger sandwiches, a burnt scone and selection of mini cakes that had been cut in half to make them go for two people, no lemon posset, apple gel, blackberries, chocolate brownie that had been advertised- I have never felt more that I was sitting in a tourist trap. I never complain because I try to find the positive in every situation but paying £46.00 for this non-occasion has forced me to write in the hope that the Abbey Hotel will look at ways of improving this tea. Clearly staffing was an issue and I don’t blame the waiting staff for this which is why I didn’t bring it up at the time Some training about talking customers through omissions or substitutions would be helpful. Perhaps we just caught the hotel on a bad afternoon….

    Had a great afternoon tea at this hotel. Service was amazing, v friendly. The quality of the food was supered! The scones were out of this world. We were celebrating a double birthday which the hotel acknowledged with a free glass of bubbly,! This is a real gem of a hotel in a beautiful city, will definitely return.

    We really enjoyed the afternoon tea. The sandwich selection was good, egg and cress, salmon cream cheese, cucumber and ham and rocket. Enormous fluffy scones with jam and clotted cream. Mini Eton mess, brownies, Victoria sponge and Bakewell tart and truffles -all delicious. Would recommend. The staff were lovely. Copious amounts of tea, coffee and hot chocolate for my daughter who doesn't drink tea or coffee.

    We came here for a Birthday celebration and mentioned this on the booking and I was given a glass of Prosecco and a pretty cup cake with a candle in it which was a lovely welcome. We had great service at a corner table inside which changed to bar service late afternoon but we were notified we just just stopped seeing any staff at our table - was not a problem it was just strange. The food was fine, we just ordered some nibbles and bread. Cocktails were great and they were happy to make cocktails that weren’t on the menu too. We had a great afternoon and would go back because of the great service.

    I am not sure what this restaurant is trying to be. As Allium, which I remember fondly, it was stunning but now it seems to be a sort of weird cross between expensive (and I suspect pre-frozen) small plates and sort of middle-Eastern -meets- European cooking in a very odd mix. What the hell is the point of a Flatbread Margherita - which turned out to be a soggy flatbread topped with a sloppy mixture which I think contained some tomatoes mushed up with a bit of mozzarella and possibly a bit of anchovy, with mozzarella, fresh tomato and a few basil leaves on top - it was tasteless and had the texture of a dishcloth. The staff were lovely and incredibly pleased to see me - the only diner in the place - and I honestly felt like running out (having paid much too much for 5 panko breadcrumbed prawns and the aforementioned pizza/flatbread mess) yelling that nobody who likes food should ever go there … and only restored myself with a welcome gelato from the wonderful proper Italian ice cream parlour just around the corner. Sorry, but this restaurant has really lost its way and needs to do a major overhaul, find its identity and stop wasting a stunning position in this beautiful city.
