Paying homage to Oakland history-about 100 years ago there was a lounge and club called the VARSITY LOUNGE located in our same location, who knew! In digging up old Oakland memorabilia, we found an old menu. To our surprise-they were well known for two things the Varsity Martini and Conga Lines!! While we aren’t ready for a conga, we are ready for the Varsity Martini, and to celebrate it’s only $5. Come join us in our downstairs café Monday through Friday after 2 o’ clock for $5 martinis and other drink specials.

Acre was delicious. Everything was great; service, food and ambiance. Upstairs is a little expensive. However, the best part about Acre is David Jacobson, the pizza chef. The dough is absolutely perfect, wood fired cooked to perfection. The best Pizza ever!!!

The food was delectable and our server was so nice and efficient. The only thing is we didn't quite have space for plates of food on the table. The busser didn't bus the table very efficiently either, but such a minor thing... Overall we loved it.

We liked the atmosphere and the dishes served at acre. There were definitely some interesting offerings and the cocktails were fantastic. our server however was terrible. Our dinner ended up being 2 1/2 hours for only three people we were constantly waiting to order the next thing and we rarely saw our server. We even had to ask a different server to help us take our order and there was never an apology or recognition for the fact that he was absent. I had also mentioned it being a birthday but they did nothing.

We had a fabulous meal at ACRE. We were pleasantly surprised (as Oliveto is a hard act to follow). Every dish we had was creative, impeccably prepared and absolutely delicious (like licking the plate delicious!) We don't eat meat or dairy but there were plenty of great choices for us. The server was attentive, knowledgable and extremely professional (nice job ACRE with hiring and training!!) It was an all around exceptional dining experience and we can't wait to go back!

Everything on the menu sounded delicious so the hardest part of the evening was narrowing down our choices. We were a family of four and tried different starters and mains. All the mains were absolutely delicious but the trout with puréed pumpkin, pomegranates, greens and the Chicken were standouts. You can’t go wrong with roasted Brussels sprouts but we all agreed these were some of the best we’ve had. We ended with Straus soft serve ice cream topped with olive oil and sea salt. There were other more traditional topping options but this sounded so interesting we had to try it….amazing!!! This was one of the best and most enjoyable dinners we’ve had in a long time.

We had a wonderful dinner here a few weeks back but lunch wasn’t the same experience. It was much louder downstairs and colder too. The salad was lacking, though soup and pizza were good.

Server was horrible. He was too busy to bring tea because he was "waiting on four other tables". The idiot did not know how to issue separate checks and had to be chased down to get the bill. Pizza bottom was burnt. Noise level was horrific.

I hosted a business dinner at Acre and the service and food was AWESOME. My guests were very pleased with my choice. My only complaint was that I was not able to reach some on the phone to increase my headcount and answer a few questions I had prior to me arriving. The good news was that they were able to accommodate my additional guest and answer the questions upon arrival. Highly recommend it for both a personal or business event.

Arrived promptly for our 5:45 pm reservation for two. The hostess took us by at least five vacant lovely tables for two and seated us in a dark corner near the bathrooms. I asked if we could change tables and she said we could not. She claimed that we should have specified which table we wanted on our reservation. We had never been to this restaurant before and have never heard of such a policy. We sat down for a moment and then decided we would go elsewhere to a place that was more welcoming. We didn’t sample the food. If you are going to Acre, I suggest that you make it plain that you do not want to sit at the four tables in the dark area near the bathrooms. I personally will never go back there. It was probably the mist unwelcoming restaurant I’ve ever walked into.

We were at the downstairs cafe and it was cozy by the pizza oven. I’d say it is up scale casual. We were looking for a comfortable spot where we could catch up over a tasty lunch and glass of wine. It delivered. This is my second visit and the food was excellent.

I recently dined at Acre with high expectations as it was highly recommended, but unfortunately, the experience fell short of what I had hoped for. The service was not the best, and our server had a lack of attentiveness and a sense of disorganization. While some dishes were decent, others were too greasy and heavily salted. The presentation of the food also left much to be desired. The lighting was too dim where we were seated. I found the prices to be on the higher side for the quality of food and services we received.

There are too many tables on the right side wall. It was a rude squeeze through to access. Take one out! The hostess was borderline hostile one of the plates was cold. Otherwise tasty. Waitstaff excellent

We had very good service from Roy. Our group of 4 people had garlic shrimp, olives and salad to share. For entrees, steak was good, both swordfish and halibuts were good. For dessert, cheese cake was light and good, but the tiramisu was average. Also, the bottle of red wine was good and still matched up with the fish and of course beef. Overall, it was a good evening.

I was told ACRE was "hit or miss", but had to try it. And that pretty much summed it up. Gnocchi with ox-tail sugo had great potential, but it was way over-salted. I wanted to send it back, but waiting for another dish to appear would have meant that our party wouldn't be eating at the same time. Pizza was excellent - thank goodness the downstairs pizza oven is still cranking out high quality pies. The wait staff seemed bored. Not sure why it was busy on a Monday night, but when we arrived at 7, almost all tables were booked.

I've eaten in the upstairs restaurant several times and it was good. This review is for the cafe downstairs, which is on the same reservation system and has similar (if not the same) menu items. Service was really inattentive and inexperienced. I'll share just one of several examples: we spilled a full water glass and no one noticed or offered help - even seeing the cloth napkin spread out over the table to absorb the water - nothing mentioned. I *did* appreciate the birthday card and cake candle. The pizza was really not good - the crust was very soggy. Just disappointing all around. I won't go back to the cafe.

Excellent service, we had the best girls night and the staff didn't kick us out even though we stayed way past the restaurant was empty. They were super nice and accommodating, I really appreciated it.
