Sadly, we are not fans of the new menu. There are not enough choices, no specials (other than one cocktail special). Judging by how sparse the crowd was on a Thursday night, I have a feeling that this restaurant will not be around for long.
Lovely little place, very cozy. The food is outstanding, you have to try the agnolotti. Portions on the smaller side so order lots. Happy to have discovered this place.
Returned to experience the "new" restaurant. The evening was wonderful. Great conversations with the people of Adesso, wonderful food and a pleasant room to be in.
Friendly, efficient service, interesting and delicious food options (can work as share plates or solo) and cozy ambience add up to great place to try!
Having been a regular at adesso and its predecessor since 1982 I was dismayed at what had happened when i visited last summer. It seemed to have lost its way. Last week the owner sent an email announcing the new menu and staff changes. I chose to give them a second chance. What a worthwhile experience this was. The menu is brilliant. Every item, every flavour has been delectable selected. Front staff is charming and impeccable. I am back home. Can’t wait til the patio opens! Congratulations! Mille grazie!
The atmosphere here is really beautiful. It's tucked away from the bustle. It's been nearly 20 years since I've been to this location, formerly a martini bar. Unfortunately, that's as good as it gets on this review. I investigated the menu in advance, as I'm a vegetarian with some food allergies. They dropped the menu item I had come for, but I felt relieved when the menu stated that vegetarians and celiacs could be accommodated. I asked the waiter if this was the case, and he said it wouldn't be a problem. He came back, suggesting the steak or the Cornish hen. I explained again that I was vegetarian. He told me only the starter salad would work for me. This was the beginning. I had to go through a manager who did not know the menu. He sent a second server, and I ate the salad in the end. It was a disappointing choice on a cold rainy day. I could really go on... The three others at the table were not wowed by their meals, either. Portions are small and lack creativity. It was a Saturday night, and we were wondering why it was so easy to get a table. Next time we visit Vancouver, we'll go a block North to Tavola for a delicious Italian meal with good service. Luckily, my company was amazing and the conversation carried the meal. Also of note was the waiter dropping off the machine at the table, then disappearing. Literally, running away. I've never had that happen before. I really wanted to love this place, based on the room. Too bad!
I found the food creative and interesting, but busy. Given all the great tapas places, I would not return for the food. Still a great atmosphere and the service was friendly and efficient.
New chef who is very creative making amazingly delicious food. Glad Adesso is back!
Adesso has always been a favourite, so were anticipating a good dining experience but were blown away by the new cuisine. Both the food and the service were absolutely outstanding, and we can't wait for an excuse to go back.
Delicious food and drinks, great atmosphere and exceptional service! We will be back for sure.
Dinner was a bit slow coming from the kitchen but because it was so good we forgave them!
Love the ambience and the neighbourhood. Well worth looking for a place to park.
It was a fabulous meal we enjoyed at Adessa Bistro. We had a wheel chaired elderly person with us and she enjoyed the meal tremendously also. John the server was perfectly attentive yet un-intrusive. The food was great and the service superior! We will return for sure!
We love this place. It gets better every time we go. Great food and really good value. We will be back for sure
So very delicious! Walking distance to our hotel in the west end. Quiet, tucked away location. Feels cozy inside and did I say the good was delicious!
I went to Adesso on Valentines Day, 2018. The ambience was reletively good, but the lights dimmed all of the sudden, rather than gradually, which threw me off a bit. The service was good for the most part, but the waiter changed three times, and got confused if we had had our meals yet or not, and almost brought them to a different table. While eating, we noticed the table across from us had the same problem. The food was really good, but the portions were tiny. At first I thought maybe they would slowly get bigger, but it wasn't the case. I left feeling hungry! When we got the bill, the machine didn't prompt for a tip, which was strange so I told the waiter. He didn't know why that happened, so maybe it was just a malfunction. All in all, the experience was pretty good, but not anything over the top awesome. probably wouldn't go back, even though the food was really good.
Loved the restaurant, the food, the service. Might have been a one off with two large parties being there, but it was extremely loud.
Food was fantastic
Great service and lovely food! We had an amazing time!
birthday for my sweetie. Adesso was wonderful as always. yumm!!!!
I love Adesso Bistro. I've been often and bring friends. I also take my 99 year old mother who has dietary restrictions and a walker - they accommodate both. They're always so nice. On top of which, I'm a vegetarian. It's so nice for me to be able to go to a restaurant and find not one, but a few vegetarian dishes, that aren't just pasta with tomato sauce. There's a cauliflower risotto that I love and even my meat eating friends have adopted!
We came for cocktails and dessert at 8:45pm. Our server was clearly angry that we weren’t ordering dinner. The restaurant was NOT full and we told the hostess we weren’t having dinner before we sat down. Due to our servers clear disgust at our order of cocktails we decided to only have one cocktail and not order dessert. I would recommend everything except her service. Not friendly. Not welcoming. Not endearing me to return.
We were brought to the inner end of the restaurant near the kitchen, and when the staffer walked past the kitchen my chair felt shaky. Well we were then re-seated somewhere else, but the initial impression was not good. Everything is a bit salty, nothing has a wow factor. The only good thing is the cozy setting, which is kind a waste together with the less than impressive food.
We chose this restaurant because we had enjoyed it very much on a visit to Vancouver in March 2017. We were disappointed on this return visit. We understand the restaurant has new owners. The gluten free menu is limited; several of the wine selections were not available; the particular server we had was not helpful or attentive. The bus staff member was pleasant and attentive. There was a tour group of 24 or so -- so the noise level was higher than usual.
The old owners (management) made this great pizza fungi. It’s really the deciding factor on whether or not I return. The new management still has the pizza on the memu; however, the oven was no working the night I went or the night prior. No one thought about phoning me to inform me; Nor did the staff tell me until it was time to order. At 7:15 on a Saturday night is it easy finding a good restaurant without reservations? No it’s not and unfortunely I had no other option but to stay. While the food is excellent and the staff is friendly....I expect a higher lever of customer service from a boutique bistro. While I left a average 20% tip...I was deeply disappointed Adesso bistro didn’t value my repeated patronage by informing me prior to my arrival that the kitchen was not fully functioning and thereby giving me an option of making other arrangements or ti

This place has new owners, and it was a big disappointment. We used to love this place, but now the menu is way smaller, tons of wines weren't available, no more valet parking (which is necessary for handicap patrons in the West End), and my food was SO SALTY (and normally I love salty food). Won't be coming back, unfortunately.
On recommendations of a friend, we decided to have dinner at Adesso Bistro. We were very disappointed with service by staff, food quality and wine selection. Will not be going back!
We booked Adesso for a b-day celebration and our table was very satisfied with the food , the server was very knowledgeable about the wine and menu. The overall experience was excellant and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The salmon and ling cod were fresh and done to perfection. These dishes would be welcomed by the vegetarian crowd, however not sure about the gluten free options. In short it was an intimate dining experience and we would go back again for another special occasion.
We got there during happy hour before the main menu opened up. The happy hour menu was great and the Bravado is a great drink! Excellent service!
We chose Adesso based on Open Table and TripAdvisor reviews. We were a little skeptical when we turned onto a residential street with no other commercial establishments. Doubts were somewhat erased once we walked through the door and were shown to our table.
Any lingering doubts evaporated once we tasted our dishes. The mussels were incredible as was the Bolognese Pappardelle. Personal, friendly service was the order of the day.
Terrific experience would not hesitate to return or recommend!
Great setting, limited menu. Food was flavorful and well presented, steak was very tough. Service very slow at the beginning which is frustrating and sets the tone for the rest of the evening. Get a drink in our hands and we're happy.....but make us wait 15 minutes spoils the fun.
We did warm up to our waitress by the end though. Need to have a better bar seating area....we like to start with a drink at the bar. Reservation system gave the impression the place was packed. It was the opposite. We wanted 7 could only book for 8. We arrived 730 and the place was almost empty
We go here every time we are in Vancouver. The location is in a residential area with an outdoor patio area as well as an indoor dining area. It is a real gem for the West End as it is frequented by locals and not the usual Denman tourists.
Our food was wonderful; fish was cooked perfectly, presentation was perfect. Good wine list and great service.
If you arrive early, you can take advantage of the HH and stay for your meal.
I haven't been to Adesso Bistro for a couple of years. I used to love going to that restaurant, being greeted by the owner, his wife and staff. I didn't know that it was under new ownership. It has changed unfortunately. Although the staff were courteous and affable, there were some efficiency issues.
The major disappointment was the food. We ordered the "Fritto misto" which used to be so good, an assortment of fish, deep friend in light batter. We got dried overcooked calamare!!! They tasted like cardboard. The main course was also quite ordinary. It is unfortunate, I hope that they raise the bar and improve the quality as there are a lot of good restaurants in Vancouver to choose from.
we ate twice at Adessos during our 8 day stay in Vancouver. the courtyard dining is spectacular. the fish is cooked perfectly, the antipasto plate has lovely cheese, capers, salamis. our servers were all great. this place is a gem in a quiet neighbourhood. highly recommended.
My son who lives nearby suggested we try Adesso for dinner....as I am from Kelowna, it was a great & convenient choice. The menu & wine choice were perfect for pairing.....we enjoyed the pear salad & the lamb & bolegnese dishes & the chocolate mouse! Can't wait for my next visit to Vancouver & Adesso for dinner! The service was superb!
Mediocre experience. Food was average and a bad experience with the striploin my wife had. She thought it was rancid. I thought it might have been a dirty grill. In any case it tasted awful. To their credit they removed it from the bill. Waitstaff was ok but basically inexperienced
Won't go back
Food was average. Service was absolutely terrible. Almost every table had to ask several times just to get water or bread, main courses arrive before appetizers, have to beg to pay, etc. etc. lovely setting, but would never go back.
outstanding location was pleasantly surprised once we were seated. food was fantastic but the service was slow. over all highly recommend going
Only had appetizers and drinks but overall was delicious and service was great. The patio was excellent.
The ambiance at the restaurant is great. When you step in you could be in Italy or any number of romantic places. The Happy Hour menu items are very large. Easy to make a meal with a couple of them. Just a gem.
Adesso is a neighborhood gem. The perfect quiet location and -- with the new ownership and chef -- wonderful food and drinks as well. Always service with a smile.
We got very good advice for the wine. Food really good.
