Our server was outstanding we had a great experience. The food was had great presentation and flavour. Overall it was a great dining experience and I will be returning and would recommend for anyone looking for a fun dining time
Excellent food and service. Reasonably priced and worth the visit
A great place to eat. Great food, good selection and friendly staff.
Very nice meal, the tacos were very tasty (both kinds) and we enjoyed the meze board. Loads of other great sounding things to try - we will be back!
Food was amazing. The chef cane by the table to check on us and make suggestions as they were short staffed that night. The service was perfect. Love the complimentary tasting of dessert at end of meal 👌
Excellent service and food was great! Tasting menu is a perfect way to try many dishes! Great variety and fabulous attention to details!
The Food is soo Good! Love how they change up the menu. One of my fav restaurants in Halifax !
Food is always great.....
We had the family style Mediterranean meal offered on Monday nights and weren’t disappointed. The chef happily made the menu vegetarian and even checked in with us a couple of times to see if we were enjoying the food. And boy was the food delicious! Great price. Lovely waitress. Cozy space. Definitely my new favourite. And an added bonus for all you craft beer lovers out there - Afrite is the ONLY restaurant serving Tidehouse exclusively. Oh, and you have got to have the tahini cheescake for dessert! Do not forget the cheesecake ❤️
Service was good, ambiance was excellent but some of the food was mediocre and others were good but very small for the price. In particular I would remark on the eggplant appetizer. I did expect it to be a warm appetizer but that aside, the egg plant was rubbery and I would say in total there was about a half a teaspoon of filling. The salt cod cake was very tasty but very small for the price and while the sauce was extremely delicious at first taste, it was very rich for anyone to finish.
Went with my daughter on a Friday night. Great online reservation system. Warmly greeted, quickly seated. Server really explained menu items well, as I wasn't sure what some were. Food was delicious, we really enjoyed the sharable/small plate experience. It's a small space but you aren't overcrowded with too many tables making conversation easy. Nice selection wine/beer/cocktails.
Will come back again.
Good food. The pork belly on a steamed bun was awesome. Singapore noodles were bland. Blue cheese duck confit was delicious, and the fish fritter was pretty good. Tasty mezze board but overpriced for what you get- very tiny portions of dips and no meat (which is fine but we thought was overpriced). Also, small pours on the wine.
Nice ambiance, good service, great selection of rich dishes.
Always a great experience at A Frite. One of my favourite places.
We went to aFrite for a New Year's Eve menu. It was a great casual venue for an informal evening, followed by watching the fireworks at the Halifax Oval. This is our second time at aFrite and we will return to finish tasting the interesting items on the regular menu.
Chef Andrew went above and beyond to meet my dietary needs (vegan). The food was absolutely incredible, the service very welcoming, and great ambiance. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in a heartbeat.
Nice atmosphere. A few vegetarian options but not many vegan options and very little preparation on behalf of the staff to have suggestions ready ahead of time-despite noting 1 omni and 1 vegan guest in our reservation. Small venue but good layout.
Food was excellent.
Had the Shrimp Tacos (these were our faves), gnocchi (very tasty, although rich, and carmelized onions were a bit overpowering), truffle frites (awesome frites! Just a tad too salty towards the bottom of the pail), french toast burger trio (I loved this, however my wife found the pork a little chewy for the burger) and a small sample of the tahini cheesecake with date molasses (quite possibly the best dessert I have ever had at a restaurant).
We did not partake in any drinks, as we found the cocktails a little pricey, although there looked to be good pricing on beer/ciders. When trying a new restaurant, I prefer water anyway to keep the palate as uncompromised as possible.
The waitress was excellent, attentive without being suffocating, friendly, and answered any questions we had. There was only two other tables occupied, so it was not busy.
All in all, an excellent dining experience, we would be more than willing to come back, perhaps to try the "Taste the menu" experience with some friends.
We did the Eat the Menu! Amazing value for an incredible and memorable evening of food and service. Will absolutely go back.
Only complaint was music was headbanging hard rock at times which made it difficult to carry on conversation and detracted from the atmosphere.
Great little spot but the venue is a little awkward only because there menus are posted to the wall. If you happen to be seated in the opposite direction you must turn around and stare at wall while you decide... which also means staring at the patrons seated below the menu- a little strange for both parties. Once the food and drink decisions are made everything else is great! Personally I had cherry chicken and sangria and both were delish!
We arrived on a Friday night in August, we had a reservation. The weather was warm outside, the door to the restaurant was open to outside and it was even warmer inside. If there was air conditioned they weren’t worrying about it because the door was open. We felt the best option was to sit outside however it was extremely loud because of the location on Water st. It was interesting to watch the people. The service was great. The appetizer was good but extremely small, not shareable. The entree of scallops and cauliflower seemed to have all of my favorite tastes in it but was very bland. I was very disappointed for 34$.
We loved our food and the service was great. My only comment would be that we would have loved to order a dessert and tea/coffee but they don't offer any. I was willing to spend more as the food was amazing. We will go back!
AMAZING! Each and every aspect. Service, drinks, food - all top notch. The meze board was a delight. Heard rave reviews from the chicken and waffles as well. What a gem of a restaurant. Go here!
Talk about flavour! The food was amazing. We had the 1000 chicken ppoutine to share and the gravy was packed with flavour. I also had the chicken schwarma salad which was incredible.
Hubby had the cherry fried chicken and it was amazing! I had food envy :) I had the gnocchi and it was good too but just not as bold and delicious as the chicken. Service was stellar!!
Enjoyable food - the burger was a big hit. Were a bit disappointed in the size of the mezze appetizer for the price. Very nice wine selection.
Fabulous service; limited but excellent menu; located near the all the action. Great little patio.
Service was great and food came out quickly. Great presentation and it came out piping hot. The beer menu is local but my husband likes a hoppier beer and there was no option for this. Overall, we enjoyed it and will return.
Amazing food. I had the “Chef’s burger and frites”, and it was the best burger I have ever had. My friend had the Shawarma Salad, and it was also divine. Well done!
We ordered the masala polenta and found it to be more like a Chinese fondue bouillon with a slab of polenta and large pieces of bland tofu. The waitstaff were not able to describe the dish when requested, prior to ordering. Had the dish been described, we would have avoided it.
We have been here before and really enjoy the food and atmosphere and were disappointed to leave food unsatisfied this time.
We enjoyed our food very much. Nice spot and pretty restaurant.
Had a wonderful experience at aFrite. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Server wasn’t the most knowledgeable, but the food made up for it, especially the appetizers from “in the lab.” They were fun and tasty! Have already recommended aFrite to family and friends. All the best,
Our first visit and won't be our last1 Great food and the waitress was knowledgeable and very friendly.
If you want creative, inspired, innovative and tasty cuisine then aFrite is a "must go to". Inspired by his mothers cooking the chef/owner Andrew Al-Khouri has the menu written up on a wall in the restaurant which changes according to good fresh ingredients. We dined twice for dinner because the food was so brilliantly devised and cooked. The staff were really friendly and attentive. This is one star Michelin food that has not made it on the Michelin radar.
Went to AFrite for Mother's Day brunch ... our first time having brunch. The food was amazing as always! The flavours were fabulous.
Service was outstanding. Food a little overpriced for portion/quality, but very good presentation.
This is s true gem of a restaurant! Will be returning to see the menu and enjoy the great ambiance for sure! Thank you for a great experience.
We received a warm welcome by Andrew, the owner who chatted with us and told us how he had built
the gorgeous seating himself out of church pews! Andrew has a passion for food and
customer service. The restaurant has a casual ambiance and a fun vibe. The food is
delicious, the service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Would definitely recommend aFrite.
On April 26th my girlfriend and I drove into the city for our reservation at 830. Upon arrival we were informed there was an event being held and that we would need to buy tickets at the cost of $75 per person. We were also told that reservations were supposed to be closed to avoid this from happening. However, our reservation was made and no attempt to accommodate us was made. This a major inconvenience for our as we drove into the city specifically for this occasion and had been looking forward to coming to your restaurant for months. This was very disappointing and I am doubtful we will make an effort to return.
Liked the place a lot. Portions were small but tasty. Great ambience
