Lovely afternoon tea experience. Make sure you review menu and make any special requests / substitutions prior to date, as it’s difficult for staff to make substitutions the day of. Great service, in particular from Hasan.
The overall experience could have been so much better. First time. The server came and asked for our tea orders. We were just left looking at the menu of teas and then we asked what to expect. He asked if we were there before to which we hadn’t and then explained how it worked. This could have been so much better rather that an old guy try to do a mediocre job. When the food tiers came out one of them had a shorter leg by 1/2 once and this kept dropping. We informed the bus boy who dropped it and he said don’t worry it will tilt but won’t fall. So it was okay for them to serve this on faulty appliances. It was stressful wondering if the tier would fall and crash into the other one essentially preoccupying our whole tea time. We asked for water - a few times. Finally I had to get up and cause the sever down for water. Then he asked how many. Seriously? There were 5 of us - just bring us water. When I want the bill god forbid someone make eye contact to wave down. I even said called out ‘excuse me’ while he rushed by not make eye contact to no avail. Bottom line is service needs ti be really updated. Get younger hipper livelier people and get tiers that aren’t wobbly and stressful. Food was fine but the experience really sucked.
Beautiful location and incredible food.
Went after Christmas to avoid Holly Jolly Menu because we preferred regular menu - ended up with Holly Jolly menu - enjoyed it but somewhat disappointed by the change in options due to dietary preferences
Food is not great. Taste is meh and selection is rather poor. Only the scones and the english cream were great, the rest of food was cold, tasteless and nothing special. The price is way over for what you get.
Cold decor with no connection to a festive afternoon tea ambiance. The hall was devoid of festive cheer and felt quite barren. The service and food were adequate but not worth the $44.00 per person price tag. It was not the festive treat that we were expecting and overall the experience was very disappointing.
We were actually quite disappointed by what we hoped would be a memorable and delightful experience. Decorating everywhere was minimal, tables were plain white with nothing festive on them at all. One person in our party only likes plain black tea, took several attempts to catch the attention of a waiter to ask for black tea, it finally arrived as we finished eating. The waiter told us he had to search all over to find a bag of plain tea. The sandwiches were yummy, but the sweet selection was not nice - none of us liked any of them. Overall a very expensive adventure that failed to deliver on its advertised promises.
Christmas tea with friends. Lovely ambience. Great selection of teas. Sweets and savoury delicious.
Very pleasant servers. Overall a delightful afternoon with friends. Well done Old Mill.
My daughter I have had a Christmas lunch or tea for years. We both have to eat gluten free so were delighted to find that The Old Mill could do a gluten free afternoon tea for us . It was beautifully presented, the ambience was lovely but the service was not as good as it should have been, the scones were too sweet and several of the desserts was not very good. Overall a good but not wonderful experience.
Service wasn't ideal. The scones were really good, and the sandwiches were decent. The desserts were nothing to write home about.
Beautiful venue. Staff diligently followed public health protocols. Food was very good. Service exceeded my expectation! Looking forward to returning soon!
I made the reservation online with Open Table and the confirmation said $39/pp plus Hst and service charge. When the bills were brought for each of the 5 at our table they charged $44/pp plus Hst and service charge. I showed the waiter the confirmation with the $39/pp and he brought a lady to the table saying the price is $44/pp and we refused saying we had written confirmation with $39/pp. She went away then came back and said Ooen Table made a mistake and they would honor the $39/pp but took away a small box of Old Mill tea they gave each of us. This was embarrassing and extremely petty to behave this way towards us. Not to mention extremely embarrassing. This kind of treatment when we did nothing and had confirmation is disgusting behaviour to our party. I will not be going to Okd Mill again unless we get an apology for their behaviour towards us.
Great afternoon tea. However, the brioche bun sandwiches with chicken were rather stale. The filling was very good though. The croissant sandwiches were lovely.
The whole experience is great. The vegan sandwiches were lacking. Deserts
good. It is expensive for the food you get but in the end you go for the beautiful
Holiday atmosphere and the excellent service. Nice they give you a box of
Old Mill tea and little jam jars. Tea was excellent.
The Old Mill delivers an overall excellent Christmas Tea experience. A holiday tradition with two dear friends, we've tried every other location in the Toronto GTA, and beyond, and return here, every time. The setting, the food, the tea is all special. This year, with the added stress of Covid, I was a bit surprised by the full, noisy room. I expect that will now change.
We'll be back again next year!
Service was poor, the interior dingy and worn. No longer a place to go for tea. It has seen its day.
It was a nice festive ambiance with a three tier menu including an expansive tea selection. Food items were very filling and they provided guests boxes to take home leftovers which was a nice touch.
Delighted to bring my mother-in-law for her birthday.
Food was stale! Limited choices and overcrowded room! Only 1 choice of tea was given!
Slow service for our table with our tea and then we had to ask for our tray as all others had theirs for a bit of time before we asked.
I was disappointed that despite having confirmed with the hostess on the phone that it was my daughter’s birthday that they would place a candle in one of the desserts to celebrate they did not fulfill this request.
Great service! They gave our free holiday teas
The sandwiches and deserts in the afternoon tea were quite stale, and the flavors weren’t great. The service was not great and everything seemed to take a very long time.
This was a wonderful experience.. food was great... staff friendly, accommodating. The only disappointment was that they were out of any kind of black tea... lots of green, chai, jasmine... but no black tea
The vegan option was terrible - bland, dry and no flavour
Water wasn't hot enough to steep the tea
Fantastic time with the ladies this afternoon spent at Old Mills for afternoon high tea. Every Sunday should be spent this way. Good selection of tea and food.
Waiters are kind and very much professional with the services.
This is a decidedly mid-range place to have afternoon tea / high tea. The venue itself is lovely. Our server was good but overworked (he was covering too many tables). The manager who greeted us when we first came in was quite brusque, which started the whole experience off on an unpleasant note.
The food wasn't as fresh as it could have been. There was lots of it though (two of the three of us couldn't finish everything they served). The scones were served with butter, not clotted cream. The tea was a teabag in a pot (not looseleaf).
Their cancellation policy seems a little draconian (they charge full price if you cancel within 48 hours).
It was lovely to be able to attend afternoon tea again at The Old Mill. It was held in the garden room, off the main dining room, which is a beautiful location. I was sorry to see that there was no longer cream served with the scones - only whipped butter and jam. The service was very attentive but I felt rushed to pay the bill at the end.
Nothing bad to say about afternoon tea at Old Mill. Everything was amazing.
My husband and I were married at the Old Mill 41 years ago and we love attending the Sunday Brunch on a regular basis. Prior to the pandemic my daughter and I experienced an afternoon High Tea and loved it. At that time there was a specific menu for gluten free customers and it was excellent. I was very disappointed with the menu I was given on Sunday. There is no longer a gluten free menu but only one for vegans. There is a very distinct difference between a gluten free diet and a vegan diet. Gluten free includes meat as well as dairy and I do not like milk substitutes and the lack of smoke salmon and other meats. I brought 3 of my closest friends to the Old Mill as my special treat because I have not seen them since I began chemotherapy treatments. Fortunately their food was excellent and they were kind enough to give me a piece of smoke salmon from their serving tray. I am very saddened to have to find another restaurant with an actual gluten free High Tea.
This was rated as the best afternoon tea service by our group. The food was delicious and a great mix of sweet and savoury. We were well treated by the staff who were efficient and very busy. They were positive and helpful. We may be back!
Great experience at The Old Mill; great service and delicious tea and food.
Need for options for vegetarians. Lot of fish on the menu.
Val our waiter was wonderful. The atmosphere was delightful and our food delicious.
Overall a great expereince, the savory vegetarian sandwiches were not good but everything else was great. Server was nice but it took a while to get our bill at the end and they had us select our tea before another server brought over the box used to select them.
For my birthday, we made our first trip to the Old Mill Restaurant. Service was satisfactory, and COVID-19 requirements were monitored carefully and efficiently by our greeter. Our server could have exhibited a little more warmth; however, her visits to our table were the right amount. Overall, this upscale eatery met expectations, yet it's a bit pricy to go there regularly. However, we will return for special occasions because of the food.
Lovely afternoon tea celebrating a family birthday. The portions were substantial. The food was yummy. The service was fantastic!
Mother 88 bday
Came for the afternoon tea and had a lovely time! Everything was delicious. Cute room great atmosphere.
Three women decided to do afternoon tea at The Old Mill. After being seated I was very disappointed to see that there were very generic banquet style white cups and saucers. I said okay hopefully the tea comes in a beautiful pot. While I was wrong the tea also came in a very generic banquet style pot. For me this just ruined the experience and not what I would expect at the type of place. We also found that the waiter seemed very rushed. Again not what I would expect from this experience.
