The vegan option was terrible - bland, dry and no flavour
Water wasn't hot enough to steep the tea
Fantastic time with the ladies this afternoon spent at Old Mills for afternoon high tea. Every Sunday should be spent this way. Good selection of tea and food.
Waiters are kind and very much professional with the services.
This is a decidedly mid-range place to have afternoon tea / high tea. The venue itself is lovely. Our server was good but overworked (he was covering too many tables). The manager who greeted us when we first came in was quite brusque, which started the whole experience off on an unpleasant note.
The food wasn't as fresh as it could have been. There was lots of it though (two of the three of us couldn't finish everything they served). The scones were served with butter, not clotted cream. The tea was a teabag in a pot (not looseleaf).
Their cancellation policy seems a little draconian (they charge full price if you cancel within 48 hours).
It was lovely to be able to attend afternoon tea again at The Old Mill. It was held in the garden room, off the main dining room, which is a beautiful location. I was sorry to see that there was no longer cream served with the scones - only whipped butter and jam. The service was very attentive but I felt rushed to pay the bill at the end.
Nothing bad to say about afternoon tea at Old Mill. Everything was amazing.
My husband and I were married at the Old Mill 41 years ago and we love attending the Sunday Brunch on a regular basis. Prior to the pandemic my daughter and I experienced an afternoon High Tea and loved it. At that time there was a specific menu for gluten free customers and it was excellent. I was very disappointed with the menu I was given on Sunday. There is no longer a gluten free menu but only one for vegans. There is a very distinct difference between a gluten free diet and a vegan diet. Gluten free includes meat as well as dairy and I do not like milk substitutes and the lack of smoke salmon and other meats. I brought 3 of my closest friends to the Old Mill as my special treat because I have not seen them since I began chemotherapy treatments. Fortunately their food was excellent and they were kind enough to give me a piece of smoke salmon from their serving tray. I am very saddened to have to find another restaurant with an actual gluten free High Tea.
This was rated as the best afternoon tea service by our group. The food was delicious and a great mix of sweet and savoury. We were well treated by the staff who were efficient and very busy. They were positive and helpful. We may be back!
Great experience at The Old Mill; great service and delicious tea and food.
Need for options for vegetarians. Lot of fish on the menu.
Val our waiter was wonderful. The atmosphere was delightful and our food delicious.
Overall a great expereince, the savory vegetarian sandwiches were not good but everything else was great. Server was nice but it took a while to get our bill at the end and they had us select our tea before another server brought over the box used to select them.
For my birthday, we made our first trip to the Old Mill Restaurant. Service was satisfactory, and COVID-19 requirements were monitored carefully and efficiently by our greeter. Our server could have exhibited a little more warmth; however, her visits to our table were the right amount. Overall, this upscale eatery met expectations, yet it's a bit pricy to go there regularly. However, we will return for special occasions because of the food.
Lovely afternoon tea celebrating a family birthday. The portions were substantial. The food was yummy. The service was fantastic!
Mother 88 bday
Came for the afternoon tea and had a lovely time! Everything was delicious. Cute room great atmosphere.
Three women decided to do afternoon tea at The Old Mill. After being seated I was very disappointed to see that there were very generic banquet style white cups and saucers. I said okay hopefully the tea comes in a beautiful pot. While I was wrong the tea also came in a very generic banquet style pot. For me this just ruined the experience and not what I would expect at the type of place. We also found that the waiter seemed very rushed. Again not what I would expect from this experience.
Good experience. A treat for our party and some new to the afternoon tea experience.
Lovely afternoon tea. Ample amount of a nice variety of delicious afternoon tea treats. And a good choice of teas - we enjoyed being able to make our choice based on the aromatic selection box. The Heavenly Cream black tea was an unusual but delightful.
My friends and I took a long needed day off work during the pandemic to enjoy a quiet and relaxing day and we decided on Old Mill.
The service, food and ambience during our visit was amazing.
Thank you for making our day out so memorable.
The food and teas were great! The room we were in was a little overly enclosed, I would have preferred to sit somewhere with more of a view. The grounds and nearby river are all extremely pretty. Slightly pricey for what you get, but I would still give it 3.5/5
Everything was great! What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with my mom!
As avid afternoon tea patrons, we were disappointed in the food. There was far too much and the portion sizes were huge (except for the sweets) The tea sandwiches were fine but the large buns, with little filling and the huge croissants were not tea size. The scones were not really scones and rather heavy and dry. We would recommend less quantity and more variety. We are not sure if we would return.
We had a disabled person who could not get up into the tea room. However, the service people quickly set us up in another room which suited us very well.
The food and tea were exceptional! The The servers were nice and hard-working. However, Afternoon tea is a time to relax and enjoy the experience. Usually the Old Mill has jazz music or sometimes classical music as background music. This time they had obnoxious pop music playing which distracted from the experience being as good as it usually is.
In addition, we went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were mystified when we told the server we were there for anniversary, yet near the end of tea he brought out a piece of cake on the plate that said happy birthday and asked whose birthday it was … strange, but at least the cake was delicious.
Excellent service and ambiance. Pandemic restrictions meant slow processing before getting a seat. The food items were delicious and plentiful. We will be back!
Beautiful afternoon tea place! Great assortment of pastries.
The food and service was fantastic. The only item I might mention is the music was loud and seemed to me I’ll suited. It was modern… Top 40…. Seemed out of place for the atmosphere and the type of occasion. Was a bit distracting and took away from the occasion. But everyone has different tastes.
For $40, the offerings were not creative, lacked colour - brown scones, brown croissant, brown brioche; no greens or veggies as an accent to taste, or as an enticing visual. The paltry beet specks with the roast beef was embarrassing, to say the least , an insignificant presence, as well as sprouts mixed in with the chicken. The tea menu was nice, but only offered one type of tea. We had 2 raspberry jams and an citrus offering - offering a choice for each guest would be preferable.
Our waiter, Akil, Was a delight with a jolly demeanor and excellent timing.
The old Mill has sentimental value...since 1971 for many occasions ! would like to continue to frequent the restaurant/venue, hoping that comments are accepted as thought for improvement as I share our experience with others.
Our experience at the Old Mill Inn was amazing. We went there on a Friday afternoon and were promptly escorted to our table after the COVID screening.
Tea and food was served promptly. It was a lot of food and selection of tea was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the selection of sandwiches and pastries/desserts. My personal favourite was the warm blueberry scone. It was so soft and delicate.
Also the decor and ambience was amazing. And the servers were very attentive and were coming and checking upon us even though the restaurant was very busy.
Overall we had a great time at the Old Mill Inn and will definitely be returning.
an enjoyable afternoon
with unobtrusive service permitting conversation to continue
suggest a vegetarian alternative to beef and chicken choices
Servers were not attentive. They did not check on us until we had nearly finished teh meal. No on came to re- fill our pots with hot water. One server dropped a fork on my lap as he was cleaning the table. Food was mediocre at best. Roast beef sandwich was stale and the beef was not well prepared. Salmon presentation was nice but not enjoyable to eat.
I really liked the food, especially the sweet level on the top. It was a very pretty place and fancy.
I strongly prefer the seats by the gardens versus the interior of the restaurant. Table spacing was okay, but might benefit from a little more distance. To take it up a notch, consider introducing live music.
Afternoon tea was such a wonderful way to celebrate my grandmas birthday! She absolutely loved it. The food, service and ambience were excellent. We will definitely be back again!
The high tea was delightful. Highly recommend for a quiet leisurely afternoon.
Because of traffic coming from Barrie, three of us were late getting there. It didn't seem to be a problem for you and we enjoyed our time together. The service was excellent.
Our high tea was not as accepted. The sandwiches were stale. We felt rushed by the servers and a few teas on the menu - that we wanted - were not available. We had anticipated the tea was going to be in the gardens but it was in an old room with no music or ambience. We wasted our money and I would not recommend it to anyone.
I was able to get a custom vegan menu which was delightful!
They accept online bookings, and both the website and voicemail indicates open to serve tea on the patio. When arrived, unpleasantly surprised to learn closed.
The ambiance was great and the distancing very well planned out between tables. Highly recommend.
Place wasn’t memorable wouldn’t go back.
