Service was great, but high tea was mediocre. I have tried many high end high teas and was not very pleased with this one. If your standards are not as high (lol) you might enjoy this one though.
Such a great experience. Even in light of a pandemic, it was such an enjoyable afternoon. Amazing tea and food. Also, the staff was so kind and I didn’t feel rushed at all.
Some dishes signed, most tasted good. To put in comparison, I had just visited Vancouvers finest bakeries and cafe and this was definitely not close to that level in terms of tastiness but it costed the same
We went to celebrate a very belated graduation for uni. We were the first guests for high tea and were able to be very far away for the subsequent arriving guests.
The food was as great as I remembered it and there was such a variety of sandwiches. There were two types of scones and they were warm and fluffy! You must slathers yours with the cream and jam provided.
As a special treat for the grad the server brought out an extra special treat! How thoughtful.
I’ll be back for that next special occasion.
The atmosphere is nice and quiet, however, I had more expectations for their afternoon tea.. everything seemed stale and old like it was left out for days. Very disappointed.
Smaller serving size than they used to have. There used to be 5 sandwiches and 5 sweets, now there's only 4 of each. They used to be bigger too. The cream was not clotted. It was too airy, like whipping cream. The food was very delicious though. Especially the roast beef and horseradish sandwich. It melts in your mouth.
Had afternoon tea in the past in other countries and this was by far the most sub-par experience to date so not sure if its just a Canada standard thing? Wife has had afternoon tea in Toronto and said it was a much more satisfying experience. This is all being said based on the value of the experince as high tea is usually pricey but $333 after tip for 4 people does garner some expectations. The service was good so def not the staff's fault I'd say.
A unique experience that is a must for high tea enthusiasts!
It was an amazing experience. Would come back again.
Very expensive for what was served... service was attentive... wish you still had the same room
The scones were great, chintzie on the Devonshire cream and fruit.
The bread on the sandwiches seemed a bit dry.
One of the desserts was too hard to eat.
I was totally disappointed.
We have attended the afternoon tea at the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel (Notch 8) many time and the experience has been second to none. Today was not the same. To begin the online booking system could not accept more that two people and took multiple emails and phone calls to reserve for three. The afternoon tea itself was not held in the usual beautiful space (I wish we would have known that) and instead was held in the bar area. Instead of a Royal, English Tea, white glove afternoon this was a bar setting with large screen hockey on tv’s. - very unimpressive including the Re-used coasters with random phone numbers on the back. The service was acceptable but the food was far less than usual and of much poorer quality. White bread had a slight staleness to it and overall the menu was marginal. The reason we attend afternoon tea at Notch 8 is for the overall experience and today the experience was completely sub-par. I really home Fairmont brings this back to what it used to be.
Excellent service! Very friendly and helpful server.
Excellent afternoon tea almost too much to eat but we managed. Great idea to allow boxes to take home excess food
Our server was lovely! She was incredibly attentive
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for rating your recent Raincouver Afternoon Tea experience. It is an absolute pleasure to hear that the warm and attentive service of your lovely server was the highlight of your 5-star experience. Please join us again soon, it would be a pleasure to welcome you back. Yours sincerely, Brad Bilick General Manager, Notch8
We had afternoon tea at Fairmont Hotel in Victoria so we expected something similar in Vancouver. The Raincouver theme was pretty unique (the raindrop shaped macaron was so cute), and I love the ambiance of the Umbrella room. I wanted to have Earl Grey Cream tea, but they didn't have one. I had Lavender Earl Grey tea instead and it was quite nice.
The service was not too bad overall but it wasn't outstanding either. One of the servers missed our table but checked on all other tables to see if everything was okay for some reason. I didn't take it personally but thought it was a little strange.
For the price, I'm not sure if it's really worth it. Some of the sandwiches were super dry and stale while some of the sweets were a bit too sweet and dry. If I get to stay at Vancouver Fairmont next time, I don't think I'll try the afternoon tea again.
Dear Mistyped, Thank you for visiting and for reviewing your Raincouver Afternoon Tea. You are right, our city’s often dreary weather forecast was the inspiration for a playful twist on a classic menu. I am very sorry to hear that the service was not attentive and the quality of the sweet and savoury delicacies failed to delight on this occasion. Please trust that we are actively seeking to improve these aspects of the tea service. Yours sincerely, Brad Bilick General Manager, Notch8
But must check menu first. To have Bison and Venison in a Tea was very masculine! What happened to cucumber sandwiches with sprouts! Further, the scones were one scone and one bun. Not very satisfactory.
Dear AnnS, Thank you for joining us for Afternoon Tea. You are quite right, this is not a traditional tea. Chef Peckham has taken our city’s often dreary weather forecast and used it as an inspiration for a playful twist on a classic menu. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the citrus brioche and blueberry scone, please trust I will discuss with the culinary team. I hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you again soon. Yours sincerely, Brad Bilick General Manager, Notch8
The theme for afternoon tea was interesting. Service was good. However , the food was very boring. Everything tasted like the same bread, the sweets were meh ( the rainbow cookie was the worst). The tea options are quite boring too ( the most common green, earl grey, etc). It’s not a worth for $65+ a person.

The food was WAY too salty. The desserts were too sweet. This is my second time here and I was even more disappointed this time than the last. The service was good, and the woman serving us for very kind and attentive.
Dear Jennifer, Thank you for joining us again for Afternoon Tea. While I am delighted that you enjoyed the warm and attentive service, I am very sorry to hear that the flavours of the sweet and savoury delicacies failed to delight on this occasion. Thank you for your feedback. Please trust that we see this as an opportunity to evolve our tea service to better serve valuable guests such as yourself going forward. Please join us again soon. Yours sincerely, Brad Bilick General Manager, Notch8
My waitress was very attentive. Good food. Good tea. Nice ambiance with the rain themed decorations. However I wish I was able to select more than one tea from the menu. But overall very nice experience! I would come here again.
My two daughters and myself all agreed we would definitely come back. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves !

It was way too loud during our sitting..

The amount of poor reviews is ridiculous. This place was amazing. The restaurant was fully decorated for the raincouver theme. And the service was stellar. We were well taken care of and the food was superb. Definitely value for the exquisite items you get. The main problem are probably the people eating at the establishment. I sat next to a table with two girls who kept scoffing at me and giving me dirty looks when I took a photo of my tea set. But then did it themselves. I was honestly quite mad at our neighbours the entire time. They got their food set and suddenly said they can’t eat seafood to the server. So they got extra sandwiches but they ended up eating their salmon and crab. How ridiculous it was. I noticed all the tables around us never really finished their food yet there’s so many low star reviews for this establishment, honestly I’m so confused. I think this place is doing everything correctly, the poor reviews just reflect on the type of people that expect royalty food served on a silver spoon. I’ll be definitely coming back.
Dear CTBallet, Thank you for joining us and for your kind words regarding Raincouver Afternoon Tea. I am thrilled that you enjoyed the stellar service and array of delicacies. We love when you photograph the whimsical treats, please share your photos with us! I am sorry that your neighbours affected the experience. Please connect with me directly upon your return, it would be my pleasure to ensure you are seated by any neighbours you wish. Yours sincerely, Brad Bilick, General Manager, Notch8
It was wonderful. Great food and service. Cool way to spend the afternoon.
I felt we were rushed out and didn’t have enough time to finish our set. Our reservation was at 1pm but we were not promptly seated at 1 o’clock but were given the bill at 2:45 because our table was reserved at 3 according to the waitress. Overall food and tea was not amazing but the price is on the higher end compare to other tea places around town. I didn’t feel it was worth the money. The ambience and decoration was nice though.
Dear Lila, Thank you for joining us and for sharing your feedback. Please allow me to express my sincere apologies for the failure to clearly communicate the seating times, we have taken steps to arrange to better communicate these details via OpenTable. I am very sorry that you did not leave with a keen sense of value, and hope that you will connect with me directly prior to your return, so that I may ensure your experience is unparalleled. Sincerely, Brad Bilick General Manager, Notch8
The overall experience was wonderful and the service was spectacular. Each individual food item was good but only few were great- which is generally true with high tea. Overall this is a great special occasion spot.
Dear Lisa, Thank you for joining us for Raincouver Afternoon Tea and for sharing your thoughts. I am delighted that you enjoyed the service and both the good and great treats. Please share with us which ones were your favourite, we would be delighted to hear! Thank you for your kind words. Please join us again soon, it would be a pleasure to welcome you back. Yours sincerely, Brad Bilick General Manager, Notch8
For the price, the value wasn’t there. We don’t eat meat. So, that may have been part of the issue. But, the selection of food was not very good. The service was fine. However, the ambiance was nothing great.
Dear AnneH, Thank you for joining us and for sharing your feedback. I am very sorry for the disappointment in the food selection. We are delighted to offer options to guests with vegetarian dietary preferences, it seems that there is opportunity for us to improve how we communicate this benefit to our guests upon reservation. I invite you to connect with me directly prior to your return, so that I may ensure your experience is unparalleled. Sincerely, Brad Bilick General Manager, Notch8
We attended the "Raincouver" themed tea on Sunday Feb 2 at 1 pm. The sweets were amazing. My share was gluten free and the sandwich bread was very plain and dry but the fillings were all delish. Loved the themed decorations and the service was outstanding (thanks for singing me "Happy Birthday"!). It's a little more pricey for high tea here than some other places in Vancouver, but you feel like a celebrity and the themes are done very, very well.
Dear Bdayboy64, Happy birthday, and thank you for celebrating such a special occasion with us over Raincouver Afternoon Tea. It is such a pleasure to hear that the sweets, decorations and service were highlights. Please trust that I will share your comments regarding the gluten free savoury's with the culinary team. Please join us again soon, it would be a pleasure to welcome you back. Yours sincerely, Brad Bilick General Manager, Notch8

Thank you for your recommendation. Please join us again soon, it would be a pleasure to welcome you back. Yours sincerely, Brad Bilick, General Manager, Notch8
I’ve been to many afternoon teas- this was mediocre at best. For such a high price tag the food could have been a lot better. There were a lot of doughy fillers that weren’t that good - this brought down the overall quality of the tea. I would not recommend this high tea with so many other wonderful spots it town.
Dear CherN, Thank you for joining us for Raincouver Afternoon Tea and for taking the time to share your feedback. I had very high hopes for high tea at the Fairmont (image wise - it seems higher end, the nutcracker theme seemed very cute, it's the Fairmont!) but I left very disappointed.
The food was very average.
The tea itself was fine but we were only asked about water refills within the first 15 mins of getting our tea. With two pots of tea for two people, it's not like we needed refills that early on but still appreciated being asked. I thought that level of service was going to continue throughout, but our server never came back around to offer us a tea refill. We sat there for the full 1.5 hours and only in the last 10 mins did we manage to flag down our server to ask for more tea. Then he came by and left the bill and machine, and I had to tap and tear off my own receipt since he never bothered to come back around. Considering it is $79 per person pre tip/tax, it's at the high end for high tea and it def wasn't worth that price. I would not consider going back and would never recommend it. What a disappointment.
Dear JTTC, Thank you for joining us for the Nutcracker Afternoon Tea and for sharing your perspective. I understand that the food and service were not to expectations. First let me say it was ghastly. There aren’t enough negative words to describe. Secondly, and what matters most, is the chef very graciously made it right by comping our tea. A review is not necessary: we will never go back.
Dear Bonvivant, Thank you for joining us for the Nutcracker Afternoon Tea. Chef, myself and the rest of the team are grateful for your gracious feedback and look forward to the opportunity to make adjustments to our Afternoon Tea service to more precisely meet the dynamic tastes and preferences of our valued guests. The notch8 at the fairmont hotel always sets their standards high. This nutcracker tea is no exception, the treats were beautiful & the staff is always friendly. Everything was fresh & we were checked on regularly. I do feel the price is a little on the high side compared to many other afternoon teas especially considering champagne/bubbles are not included. That being said the level of detail & the atmosphere of notch8 does surpass many other establishments.
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for joining us for Nutcracker Afternoon Tea and for taking the time to share your feedback. Nutcracker Tea was extremely disappointing.
We weren’t sure if the bread was stale or dry. The deserts too sweet. The same tea leaves topped with hot water throughout the two hour tea.
The soup was however delicious and the service was very good. Not worth the money.
