We felt as if we were eating in a dungeon. The whole tea area was tucked in a corner of a restaurant, with low ceiling, windowless, dated decor, or lack of it. It was over-rated, overpriced and poor food quality and quantity! Very disappointing!

After moving us from our previous cold noisy downstairs seat( the only uncomfortable seat there, close to the working area) to the warm upstairs seat, everything is perfect!

Food wasn’t fresh when we went. Sandwiches dry. Servers were slob ish, not the polished high end service you would expect at this price point.

The venue was quite noisy for a relaxing afternoon tea, I would've liked a larger tea selection but other than that it was fabulous!

Sat., Sept. 25. 2021
My mothers “91st” birthday… then momma shared a story of her and other 18-year-olds band playing on Hotel Vancouver roof top in 1948. Mom was playing trombone.

I had my grad dinner and dance at Hotel Vancouver in 1984.

She asked if their are any photos in Hotel Vancouver’s historic library? If so, I’d appreciate receiving copies to frame for Christmas gift. Leah 604 790 8135

In addition, dancing with Dal Richards band. This story telling and reminiscing has never been shared with me. What a wonderful afternoon of ‘quality time’ with my mother to create cherished memories.

Jaqueline was an AMAZING server-associate and treated my momma with Queen/like care. Jaqueline deserves administrative recognition for “optimal quality professionalism”!!!

When their is access to main stairwell to see chandelier and rooftop access for my mother to visit please let us know!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Warm Regards,
Leah Connell

Went for the afternoon tea and that was enough to have two of us filled up for the entire afternoon. The portions were better than any other afternoon tea location we have gone to in Vancouver. The food tasted fresh and so flavourful.

We know this is hard times for the hospitality industry, but considering the prestige of Hotel Vancouver and the Fairmont chain, we expected much better from the afternoon tea service. As customers who have experienced afternoon teas at other establishments, we expected the food to be of a very high standard. We were very disappointed with the quality. We paid $160 for two people and did not think the experience was worth the price.

The food was unrefined, unimaginative and overly sweet. We often wondered if the pastry chef had proper training. The scones tasted very floury and were dusted with icing sugar that made everything sticky. They were served with creme fraiche and not clotted cream. The waffle cone tasted stale and was filled with a too sweet pastry cream. The cone itself did not seem to be made in house. The macaron had a strange, marshmallow-style cream filling. The "rainbow" shortbread cookie looked like something a child made and was overly dense and sweet. The cheesecake was substandard. The blini was, as a previous reviewer described, a soggy pancake. The sandwiches were not bad, if not exceedingly ordinary –we could have gone to mom's house instead. Because it was our anniversary, we were offered two small complimentary desserts: a vanilla pudding and chocolate pudding that were both overly sweet. While we were touched by the gesture, we struggled to finish both. The cutlery, plating and teapots seemed old and scratched. The tea selection was quite small.

While the food and tea selection were substandard, the two shining stars of this experience were the waiters who were attentive and good humoured. We appreciated their service.

While my two guests (one having her 100th birthday) were the ones who got to enjoy this very fine tea party…I was told everything was above expectations, service, food and ambience…..truly an enjoyable day! Staff ever so attentive! A big thank you to all who helped to make this a birthday to be remembered!

Very delicious food. An interesting and unique experience. It was actually really fun to wave at people who passed by and bring a smile or confusion to their faces. Only thing that would have been nice is if the server offered to take at least one picture of us sitting in the window to remember our date and perhaps adverstise for you online.

Afternoon tea set at Fairmont Vancouver was a big disappointment for me. Savouries selection was ok. Nothing special, super simple look and average taste. But sweet part of the set was unfortunately awful. Salty, cold pancake with whipped cream on a top… saggy waffle cone with average pastry cream inside… regular shortbread cookie and cheese cake that you can buy at any store… i wasn’t impressed with it at all!
But i have to admit that scones and tea was amazing! Service and ambiance was wonderful as well.
I will come back to Notch 8 but definitely not for their high tea as its very overpriced and there are many much better options for that Vancouver.

We came here for my daughter’s 16th birthday. We have been for afternoon tea at many places over the years (including this one several times) the food and atmosphere at the Vancouver Fairmont have declined steadily over the years but this experience was terrible. The food tasted like it was not fresh, everything was bland and there was an excess of cream filings making everything taste very similar. The music was loud, the room was dreary, the table settings were uninspired. There was something floating in the cream when we arrived. The experience was reminiscent of an old school department store cafe After tea the girls went shopping and my husband and I came back to have a drink at the bar. Notch 8 was not busy. We were actually seated at the bar and had no interaction with either of the two bartenders (not even to ask how our drinks were or if we needed another). Another woman from a nearby table came up to the bar to order a drink and told the staff that her and her party had been waiting for someone to take their order for over 20 minutes

The cost of the tea for myself, my husband and 5 girls was over 600.00 plus parking Something that we were hoping would be a very memorable event for a special day. Needless to say it was very disappointing. We will not be back
