Following a visit to the art gallery we took our friend to the AGO Bistro for dinner to celebrate her birthday. From the moment that we entered the restaurant we found the service to be professional, warm and very, very good. Our waitress, with her knowledge, attentiveness, suggestions and personality really added to our enjoyment of the evening. The selection and preparation of the meals was very good. Initially we ordered from the Happy Hour menu and enjoyed the excellent cocktail of the day. For the mains two of us had the braised beef cheeks which were delicious. We will return.
Excellent food, interesting menu, attentive service.
I just love going to the Bistro at the AGO for lunch and on occasion, dinner. The food is delicious, the service wonderful, and the ambience great. I work nearby so it’s a perfect place to go for lunch with a colleague when you want to get away from the gazillion restaurants in the area that serve so-so food. It’s a real treat and I’m glad it’s here!
Food selection was very limited and there wasn't much there that was very appealing. It felt as if the menu was trying too hard to be "in".
A very bright and friendly restaurant to visit in harmony with the AGO splendor. Good place to unwind after an absorbing visit to exhibits. Perfect for conversation as the noise is reasonable and the menu itself is interesting and varied. The service is very good and observant so overall it was an excellent choice that I will certainly repeat.
Our waitress Elaine was amazing. She anticipated our every need. Awesome service. Good food and choices
Inside the AGO - good food quality - limited menu - not inexpensive for lunch.
We have just become members of the AGO this past year.We have had lunch in the Member's Lounge before but we wanted to try the Bistro for lunch until we realized that they also serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, which turned out to be perfect.
The service was friendly and attentive from the moment we got there. Right away asked if they could take care of our coats and it just got better from there. From the mimosas to desserts, it was simply delicious. The eggs Benedict were probably the best we have had anywhere. We will definitely go back.Great menu!
The only thing I'd like to mention was that it might have been a tad loud.
Always enjoy the menu associated with the exhibit.
The Flemish menu was excellent, Flemish fish stew and figues and orange bread butter pudding or stout chocolate ice cream for dessert, you might never taste this unless you are in Antwerp....
Took my 98 year old mother to the Rubens exhibit. When she was tired, we came for a glorious lunch and then went back to finish the exhibit. Great day! Wonderful lunch and great staff
I had reservations and we were seated quickly and our resequest first a quieter space was accommodated as much as possible
Our waiter was attentive, gracious and seemed to anticipate our needs.
The food was delicious
Great cocktail selection ( artist motif of course), amazing salad and delicious burger
Attentive staff and elegant decor
This time, the food taste was just okay, not special, as usual. I would say the service from Nicholas and our servers were excellent. I am willing to come again on a weekend, that isn't a long ome, so we have the regular chef.
Very embarrassing - It was a business lunch. I had a reservation and was given one of the worst tables in the restaurants. I had to ask that we be given one of the better tables near by. I am also an AGO member.
We always have lunch at the Bistro when we see a new show. The food is always interesting and beautifully prepared and presented. The service is always impeccable.
Really enjoyed the Flemish Fish Stew. Great Service as always.
Excellent service and a delicious fish soup for lunch. Very good.
Food and ambience was perfect 😍😍
Servers were amazing 😍!!
Great food and service. The happy hour is nice for a quick snack.
We loved the new menu. The Eggs Bennie with Truffles were the best we have ever had.
While the prix fixe is a great value, there is a very limited menu; not even a basic mixed greens salad. My bad, I should have checked first. Root veg salad was interesting, but the dressing was overpowering and heavy, and the "root veg" content was mere slivers of a roasted or pickled beet. I'd come again and make different choices, unfortunately my guests, a teen and a senior, who are not a picky eaters, found it very limited and I'd have to agree. A simple mixed greens salad, an interesting veggie wrap or a chicken wrap would have saved the day without adding a ton of ingredients to your mis en place. Service was great.
The menu on the webpage was different than the actual menu when we arrived, which greatly
disappointed my guests.
Had a great brunch! Thank you!
Fast service, great food and very attentive. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful server who I wish I got her name or was around when we left. Excellent customer service; we felt catered to which inspires more visits to come.
Worth a visit when you're at the AGO. Just wish they served draft beer.
My 'go to' restaurant.
Super, delectable offerings.
The servers serve knowledgeably, they do not talk down at you, the interaction is mature and most significantly they don't have an (obnoxious) attitude.
And I can hear what my guest has to say, when I'm dining alone I can hear myself think.
The AGO Bistro is a rare gift to the city of Toronto.
Through the OpenTable application I requested a well located table, and this was fulfilled by the host, I liked the attention. We went for the grilled aubergine and hen, outstanding dishes that I would recommend. Overall is a great place that I am looking forward to go back to; the noise could be reduced, but it really didn't bother us.
The food was very good but our server did ot take the time to engage with me or my son. He was efficient but not personable.
the food felt like it was trying to hard and only managed to reach mediocre
My guests were very pleased with their lunches. One raved and thought it was the best "liver and onions" she has even had, and it is her comfort dish. thanks!
It was one of the best dinner experiences we’ve had . The food was simply yummy.
I took my daughter and granddaughter out for lunch at the Bistro last Thursday. I really enjoyed the buffalo meatloaf and potato leek soup and they ordered the soup and a salad. We all had different desserts that were delicious. The food was excellent as was the service. Lynn Clark, Grimsby, Ontario.
I really like the cafe but this time we didn't enjoy the choice we made - which was the grilled eggplant.
It was really not a tasty dish and neither my guest nor I enjoyed it. The eggplant was oily, the leek fritters overdone and dry and the pickled cranberries, while pleasant, didn't provide a sufficiently moist contrast either to the palate or the eye.
Interestingly the waitress, who was otherwise excellent, didn't ask us how we were enjoying our meal.
I feel sure that the Bistro could prepared a much more tasty vegetarian option than this is.
It's a lovely place and the service is attentive. Next time I will be sure to choose more carefully.
Corn soup and Ahi tuna salad were excellent. Fish and chips, mediocre. Expensive/
Another great meal, very nice ambiance and service.
Deliciously inventive dishes, excellent service and a great location. What’s not to like?
Cost for food was fair in regards to the mains but not for the tapas style appetizers (these are the ones on a separate short menu). Would rather come to sit at the bar for a couple drinks after walking around the gallery but not for a meal. Atmosphere was pretty quiet on a Thursday late afternoon and seating is dim with a more intimate vibe.
I enjoyed lunch at the AGO’s Frank restaurant (I prefer the original name). The chicken liver pâté was especially good. I wish the menu selection had been wider. Service was excellent.
