Our bread is baked in a wood fired oven from our own stone milled red fife wheat.
We choose local farms and use only sustainable fisheries.
We work closely with our friends at farm + field butchers.
Pleasant and small restaurant. My small plates were nicely prepared and very flavorful. A good foodie experience. Not a big pile of food, but elegant pallet pleasers.
Food options were generous, with vegan and gluten free available. Had four course meal and chef was creative with flavors and textures. Excellent!!!
We went to celebrate Valentine's Day. As with most smaller restaurants now the tables are quite close together. We were tucked into a corner (at my request, thank you) and it was fine. One of the first things we noticed was the seats were hard. Not horrible but also not very comfortable for a nice restaurant. The food was different, an adventure really. There were not many items on the menu to my taste but I went in ready to try a few things. My husband tried the duck and pork skin and really enjoyed them. I don't eat duck but tried the vegetable on the plate. The charcuterie was lovely and the brussels sprouts were really good. The description for the salmon didn't mention it was not cooked (only cured) and it wasn't to my taste. When I mentioned it to our server she offered an alternative. They ended up taking the salmon off our bill which was unexpected.
Service was great! Very knowledgeable about the dishes and wines and very attentive without being overly so. All of the servers were also very forthcoming with information to us non-foodies without being condescending or snooty about it.
We did find a couple of dishes we would definitely order again and will return. We will probably ask a few more questions while ordering and sit at one of the cushioned seats.
Lovely evening, enjoyed the tasting my
Best breakfast in Victoria and you can make reservations so you don’t have to wait in line for an hour!
One of our favorite restaurants not just in Victoria, but anywhere. The quality and service are unmatched, and the food is phenomenal. An evening at Agrius is a must every time we go up there. We also go to Fol Epi (the attached bakery cafe) for pastries and coffee in the morning, and grab a couple sandwiches for the trip home.
This is the third time we have eaten at Agrius.....every time we’ve enjoyed the experience...
Having the restaurant in our building is a bonus...
A truly enjoyable experience. Local food, organic ingredients, CREATIVITY, CREATIVITY and PLANTS!
A nice add-on to the food scene in Victoria. Great ambiance and VERY knowledgeable servers. Such a delight :)
We went for Dine Around Victoria and had the 50 dollar 3 course menu ... even if they priced out the fish ( cod) entre at 30 dollars we still paid 10 dollars each for a starter of 3 pieces of squash and a dessert that was a deconstructed carrot cake... too much
I Agrius is one of my favourites, but I was rather disappointed with the Dine Around meal. I will definitely continue eating at Agrius, but I wouldn’t go for the Dine Around event again.
Dine Around, wonderful meal and service
Food was excellent and service attentive - very much appreciated being able to cross the dine around menus
Had a wonderful dine out meal with perfect wine pairings!
Great first experience here! The atmosphere was ideal, the noise level was definitely a highlight. I would have liked a more prominent by the glass BC wine selection, but overall a nice variety of worldly wines. New server did a great job reading the table and food was brought out in great time! Food was fantastic, bread with butter and salt reminded me of my time in France.
Friendly staff, excellent food. We had a really lovely dinner here as part of Dine Around Victoria.
Dine around was so good. Will definitely be back.
My friend and I had the xo fried rice and it was delicious! The balanced flavours of salty, sweet, and sour were spot on. Another great dish to add to my favourites!
I went to Agrius with a group of friends during Dine Around and while it's a nice time to get a taste of a restaurant, I wouldn't recommend it to a friend. I don't think the set menu gives you the best impression of this restaurant who is great at small plates and things to share family style, and not as strong on one-person entrées. The portion sizes varied a lot across dishes for the same course and while they all felt like an okay value, one of us was still hungry and one couldn't eat the dessert because there was so much side with the main. I loved the desserts we had at our table, the carrot cake in particular was so good... the tiny cakes meant every bite had a golden, crisp bite, and the pickles were unexpected and just the right tang with the semifreddo.
The service at Agrius is friendly and charming with our table, but noticeably icy when we were heading out the door and noticed a mouse running around the bakery. When we pointed it out we got a quick, "K thanks, bye!" and no explanation or apology. For all I know every restaurant in town has mice and that's normal and you just try to keep them contained, but your clients don't want to find out, and if they do, maybe send them home with an extra dessert or a gift card?
Overall I like Agrius as a place to share a lot of plates and the thoughtful wine menu, and I'll probably go back. Just not during dine around.
As a parting note, the plants desperately need pruning/watering.
Excellent food and service. Will be back again soon!
Such a treat to have so many caring food and beverage people in one place. Will be back ASAP wen in Victoria again.
Well worth a visit . Very accommodating hostess when my reservation time was missed and sure glad we made it . Food was first class and service top drawer . The three courses my wife and I had were expertly presented and promptly delivered . This small restaurant is a great choice in downtown Victoria and I would return again
Kale & Mushroom Benny was fabulous! Soup was healthy but needed seasoning or herbs and might have been better pureed.
Excellent service. The server answered all questions and was especially solicitous regarding food allergies.
Love agrius, it’s my favorite place for breakfast in Victoria!
Agrius' menu is seasonal and always amazing! Great cocktail options as well, plus great service. I always recommend it to my friends.
Our reservation was for the first night they re-opened after a holiday break. We practically had the place to ourselves. There was a larger table next to us for a while and we found it pretty loud. Not sure what it woudl be like with a full seating in there?
Service was excellent. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Nice selection of island wines. We did the Agrius Kitchen Menu with the beverage pairing. Everything was outstanding with the exception of the cod. Nothing wrong with the fish, just not as exciting or tasty as the other dishes. The dessert was a little dull - a deconstructed apple crumble-type dish. Not a fan of warm fruit desserts, so that is possibly informing my impression of the dessert. The cheese plate was also a bit underwhelming - Alpindon cheese (something we eat at home regularly) and rye crackers (which were very tasty). The meal was accompanied by generous servings of Fol Epi bread (the best bread in town IMHO).
All in all, a very good meal. Expensive, but we went all out for my husband's birthday. Oh, and I was bummed to discover they've removed the lamb tartar from the menu! REALLLLLY hope that circles back at some point. We'll be back. Interested to check out the lunch and brunch menus.
Excellent food! Service was aloof at the best of times and rude when present but perhaps we were there on an off day.
Agrius maintains the highest standards for taste and service. I am always happy that I chose it!
Excellent ingredients combined in ingenious ways. Delicious meal.
Strikes a perfect balance between creativity, satisfying portions, price, and breadth of flavours. Absolutely worth the trip.
(Had: Smoked beets 5/5; Pork cracklin' 3/5; Kale salad with herring duck breast with rye and orange 5/5; hangar steak w/XO sauce 5/5).
Had a fantastic meal at Agrius with family. We ordered a kale salad, oysters, octopus, pork rinds, smoked beets, squash, duck, cabbage and various drinks. The server was very friendly, patient and professional. She answered all our various questions about the menu which was nice. The food came out at the perfect time and everything was cooked perfectly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves so much that two of us came back the next morning to try the bakery side for breakfast.
Always guaranteed fresh, hot and delicious fare. Service is great!
Delicious food, creatively prepared and beautifully presented. We took luck of the draw with the tasting menu - and three of four dishes were fantastic. That's good enough odds to go back again. There's nothing else like this in downtown Victoria.
First time at Agrius, a lunch with business friends. Limited menu which is good, so they can focus. Everyone
enjoyed their meals, although my broccoli and eggs and salad was a bit skimpy (but tasty). i will probably go back.
We have dined at Agrius several times for brunch, lunch, and dinner. Food and service are always excellent. This visit was a surprise for my husband and I requested no menus at arrival and preordered drinks and the tasting menus. These requests were executed flawlessly. We always enjoy our visits and hope to be back soon.
We had an excellent experience! The food was unique and well prepared. Some of the best flavours I’ve experienced. Service fantastic. Even something as simple as a small charcuterie plate was elevated with fantastic pickled vegetables and locally cured meats. Can’t wait to return!
Agrius continues to be my Number.1 restaurant in Victoria! The service is friendly and consistent, the food always fresh, local and delicious. I love that the menu changes regularly. Their bar program; cocktails and incredible wine, is also a huge draw when I'm looking for a drink and a light snack as opposed to a full meal. Thankyou to Ashley for looking after me and my colleagues for our Business Holiday lunch. Ashley is always incredibly friendly and engaging, as are the rest of the team. Thanks for being incredible and keep up the good work!
Good service, inventive menu, moderately expensive.
Disappointed. Have dined there previously (prior to their switch to more small plate styled) and much preferred that approach.
We ordered the tasting menu and it was great to just sit back and relax to let the chef surprise you. Dishes were well presented and wine pairings were unique and BC local. We found there was too many whites though and would’ve liked a heavier red (I think they stopped at the Pinot). The first few courses were lovely but I wasn’t much a fan of the duck, it was a bit too rare for my taste. The service was okay, seemed a bit too casual for a tasting menu, but it was our first visit so we’ll see if it is more polished for next time. A nice addition to the Victoria food scene.
