   Highly recommend eating out at Aleph Middle Eastern Eatery. Incredibly delicious food accompanied by an excellent cultural escapade from everyday city life (without hopping on an airplane!). We were a group of 7, and were lucky to have a reservation for the evening. One-of-a-kind experience where food is prepared with LOVE within a minimalist interior design so to focus on the social nature of a meal with loved ones!!

   I so love this small but mighty restaurant. The food is wonderful and innovative, the staff are wonderful, informed, friendly and the decor is inspired and beautiful. I also love this part of the city - and that this gem of a restaurant is tucked into this particular city block. LOVE this place!

    What a hidden gem! The food here is delish! We are both meat eaters but didn't miss it at all because the flavours were so dynamic and lovely. Everything we ate was spectacular but the favs were the bao buns, the cauliflower bowl and the brussel sprouts. The house made hot sauce is not to be missed!!! The vibe could have been a bit warmer with a playlist and cozier seating. I will absolutely go back.

    We had high hopes for this. We did the tasting menu and were a little underwhelmed. For $65 each we didn’t think the value was worth it. Food was fine but over priced for hummus and cabbage. Additional $35 for 3oz of wine pairing. Service was nice but I would’ve liked a little bit of time (5-10 mins) before the last course as we were over full. We asked but were told another table was coming in a few minutes. Our server was nice about it and we suppose it was NYE which is a busy night but didn’t get to take our time to enjoy the desert. I would give Aleph another chance with the regular menu maybe…but overall, it wasn’t worth it.

    It brings me great sadness to report that Aleph has changed. The food and service that my wife and I have come to expect and enjoy over the years has notably deteriorated and we will not be back. A quick example comes from one of Aleph’s signature dishes (and a crowd favourite) “The Silk Road” which is now but a mere shadow of what it once was. This appetizer at $13 used to contain 10 ingredients (including pomegranate seeds and honey) and was accompanied by the most amazing house made Chinichurri Saj bread I have ever tasted. (There are lots of old reviews that share this sentiment). Imagine a Middle Eastern bread that is made right before your eyes in an open kitchen, which is served fresh out of the oven and lined with delicious mouthwatering spices and oils. What we were served last night was still called “The Silk Road”, at $18, but is whittled down to just 4 ingredients, and the homemade bread is now replaced with 4 small pitas that clearly look like they came from Costco. Once we learned that they removed the bread oven from the premises, we realized that the heart and soul of this style of food was gone. The waitress did tell us in advance that the bread has changed, but that assured us that “we’d still like it”. I assured her after the first bite that “we did not still like it”. The Costco pitas were tough and gummy like, and the once sweet and delicious dipping sauce was just a bitter and oily bowl devoid of the character that used to embody the signature dish. We sent it back after our first bite and which point the waitress said “shall I just bring you your bill then?”. I suggested to the waitress that perhaps we should not pay for this as we were disappointed by the food and did not want to eat it, however she scolded us by reminding us that “she told us that it was not the same, and yet we ordered it anyway”. Essentially saying it was our own fault for ordering the item. To this mean server I say, “message received”. We will not be back.
