Alice is a fermentation and vegetable focused restaurant in Ottawa, Canada by award winning chef Briana Kim. Our food is inspired by Canadian landscape, and traditional and modern techniques of fermentation around the world. Due to the nature of our fermentation focused menu, some of the components are prepared in advance and we cannot accommodate all allergies and preferences. Please contact us prior to booking at info@alicerestaurant.ca to confirm. Alice offers one dining option; an 8 course blind tasting menu at $185 per person, and natural wine and fermented juice pairings at $135 per person. Each reservation is booked for 2 hours. We have an intimate dining room; we kindly ask that bookings be dedicated to adults and older children only to ensure a timely service and quiet atmosphere.

Culinary experience is outstanding and you discover flavors and pairings that are really unique. Service is very good and fluid. I think it's a must to try at least once but the overall price makes it difficult to justify going again when you consider the other options in town.

Staff was nice, explained the food well. Chairs are very uncomfortable and the base of the tables makes for awkward foot placement. Extremely expensive for the portion sizes/what goes in to the meals, bottle of Beer was $18.00, Wine pairing is equivalent to about a 1/3 of a bottle at a cost of $135.00, Tea was $15.00 (South Beach Miami offers better value for your buck and that's saying alot). It was a different experience, can't say I will be rushing back.

While the start was worrying, the rest of the meal just kept getting better and better. What I refer to as the start is the fact that you are served two slices of bread and some infused butter unfortunately, the slices are really thick and a bit impractical to eat and the butter does not have anything special. The rest of the meal is a real experience with flavours that are unusual, surprising and really a signature from the chef who serves some dishes herself which is a pleasant connection. Service is smooth, no wait and the time goes by nicely. As usual with some of the locations in Ottawa, the acoustic of the room could benefit from some sound proofing. The interior design is nice and inline with the cuisine style of the chef. Will happily recommend.

It was a very enjoyable evening at Alice's restaurant. The food was incredibly and very interesting! Amazing the taste sensations that can be created with a vegan diet. Everything was delicious and the wine pairing was outstanding. A truly unique experience!

This is our second visit to Alice. Last year’s experience was amazing, this year’s experience is exceptional. Chef Briana produces elegant menu to surprise our taste buds. Whenever we come back to Ottawa, Alice is the must revisit restaurant.

From the road, the place looks almost sketchy, but inside the atmosphere is great, and well decorated. It was a very creative meal. Extremely tasty and great presentations for every service, and very original dishes. I'm not a vegetarian, but enjoyed every plate. One of us had the fermented juice pairing and the other the wine pairing, and this was the weakest part of the meal. Several of the wines were simply 'ok' and could be improved. The fermented juices were original, but by the end weren't different enough from each other. Quite pricey though for the meal.

WOW This was the best meal of our lives. Since my partner and I began eating plant based, we’ve missed fine dining and tasting menus as the experiences are so limited. This exceeded any meal we’ve had before and it would be very tough to top! Every dish blew our minds, the 2 hr service was the perfect length to be repeatedly delighted and mesmerized on all sensory levels. We had the cellar menu with juice pairings and it is a meal we will never forget. We went home almost delirious with what an artful, joyful, almost healing experience this meal was. It is very expensive, and this is the most I’ve spent on a meal for two. While I have no regrets at all, it’s not a price I could usually justify for one meal, but consider this a 2 hr adventure in awe that will create a core memory!

Music was absolutely great. Decor was nice but sparse and a little too white, chairs were just OK comfort-wise. Neither of us are fans of having each dish described verbally. Much prefer reading such descriptions. Every dish was very tasty and nicely presented. Although one dish was served in a shallow bowl but with a thick edged wooden spoon, making it nearly impossible to scoop up everything in the bowl. Also some of the crusted dishes were very oily and the first dish that was served after the delicious bread was scorched with a blowtorch and unfortunately we could taste the propane a little on the seared parts. That said the broth was truly a standout. The mushroom main dishes were absolutely delicious, yet would have been even better if the mushroom pieces were slightly smaller so you get more of the cooking flavours, and if we had a little more mushroom to enjoy. The mead we had was fantastic. I was originally sceptical about the pine branch frozen in the ice cube but it actually made perfect sense once it thawed and its aroma blended in. Quite frankly though, while everything was very tasty we walked out still feeling a wee bit hungry. Unfortunately we were both extremely gassy once we left and so we walked toward Elgin for a good 35 minutes to let the gas pass and then stopped somewhere for a few tapas. While the experience was generally very nice we didn't quite feel like we got our money's worth and feeling so gassy upon leaving wasn't exactly something we expected from such a dining experience. One last thing, while we are both open to revisiting Alice in a year or two, the threat of potentially being billed the entire amount for a cancellation or a no show was extremely off putting.

We had the Cellar Menu at Alice this June.We had come earlier years in April and wanted to see if there was a different menu. As before, we were stunned and greatly impressed with the whole experience from entering the restaurant, being welcome and visited by servers and the chef herself when they brought the plates and explained what we were being served, to the closing of the evening with a beautiful dessert. Not only is the food beautifully plated and each plate telling a story of ingredients and fermentation, but the flavours and the textures are a complete wake-up call to all your senses. We had the wine pairing but also tried one order of the fermented juice pairing. Wow. Unique tastes and wonderful, harmonious combinations. I wish we had the Michelin star system in Ottawa. Alice deserves that sort of recognition.

We had a marvelous experience at Alice - with every course we had trouble deciding if this was our new favorite - so we ended up agreeing that "the winner" was our taste buds and left it at that. It was all delicious, beautifully presented and original.

A very thoughtful food experience with a very unique menu. Staff were attentive, friendly and quick. Service was moderately paced. Ambiance was cozy, good view of the kitchen and the head chef occasionally comes to present the dishes herself. If this is in your budget it is a must try.

It was simply a lovely and amazing experience. The staff are extremely nice and professional and it was lovely to chat with chef Briana. The food was delightful, creative, flavourful and surprisingly filling (in a good way). Each dish was simply beautiful and it made you to want more. That’s how food should be, it should be unique and it should excite you and give you delightful feeling. It was a dream come true to go this amazing restaurant. Everyone was so passionate. From now on I think I will be going each season so that I can try their menu every season.

Menu is predetermined. Alice is very responsive to any allergies and will prepare dishes without those items. so everyone enjoys a creation with slightly different ingredients. EG sunflower seeds rather than pine nuts Staff are engaged , knowledgeable and a pleasure. Menu is brilliant and each offering had an intrigue of its own. Great. evening to share with freinds

Outstandingly creative, imaginative and delicious food. Not many chefs can create dishes that are beautiful to look at, vegan, and delicious at the same time. It takes a lot of skill, imagination and precision to pull it off to this level. It's a mystery to me why they don't have a Michelin star. Only complaint? Music choice and volume was annoying and fought with the experience.
