   Menu is predetermined. Alice is very responsive to any allergies and will prepare dishes without those items. so everyone enjoys a creation with slightly different ingredients. EG sunflower seeds rather than pine nuts Staff are engaged , knowledgeable and a pleasure. Menu is brilliant and each offering had an intrigue of its own. Great. evening to share with freinds

   Outstandingly creative, imaginative and delicious food. Not many chefs can create dishes that are beautiful to look at, vegan, and delicious at the same time. It takes a lot of skill, imagination and precision to pull it off to this level. It's a mystery to me why they don't have a Michelin star. Only complaint? Music choice and volume was annoying and fought with the experience.

   Very delicious vegetarian pairing with wine and non-alcoholic fermented drinks. A few of the pairings brilliantly capture the smell and taste of Nordic wilderness that hints of Ikea in the best way.

   Going in I was skeptical, I rarely eat vegan/vegetarian dishes, but their ranking on the top 100 inticed me. I got the wine pairing my friend got the non-alcholic pairing and we sampled both. The wine pairing was spot on, the courses enhanced each wine cutting away sharp and abrasive notes and allowing some incredibly flavors to come through. I was personally impressed by every course, except for the celariac and barley course. The deconstructed bagel opener, the main mushroom course and the sourdough donut were particular highlights. Overall it was an incredible experience, and definitely opened my eyes to the possibilities that vegan food can be. I would recommend any `foodie` in Ottawa try it at least once.

    Alice is a unique dining experience from the moment you enter the restaurant. Excellent service with very knowledgeable staff, the food far exceeded our expectations, and the owner/chef was available and visited every table. We enjoyed the 8 course menu and wine pairings, which ranked with any Michelin rated restaurant. We highly recommend this restaurant.

    We had a lovely time at Alice. Definitely a food forward, interesting journey of flavors. The service felt very personal. We loved seeing the chefs come out and explain the dishes at our table. Be prepared to be hit with some unfamiliar words with long complex descriptions. Most of the time we would look at each other clueless at to what was just said. It might be beneficial to research some of the common terms used here like "yuba", "amazake", "XO sauce" etc. The front of house staff definitely went above and beyond for us. When we left our table to use the bathroom, a server would swoop in the fold our napkins. Our tables were crumbed and waters refilled after every course. The food was delicious, curious and playful. We especially enjoyed the tempeh tacos and the yuba and yeast broth. Overall there was a definite "Asian" flavor palate here. Expect lots of umami, sesame and rice flavors. Dessert was excellent however we did not enjoy the fermented hazelnut milk that was served with the donut. My fiance gagged after taking her first sip and we had a good chuckle about it. The reservation experience was pleasant. We noticed that returning patrons were greeted with a "welcome back" which is a thoughtful touch. We were called around 3 hours prior to our dinner to confirm as well as being told about the prices, allergy concerns etc. It was at this point I requested a private table which they happily accommodated. Ambiance was warm, and well lit. Music was somewhat loud and somewhat "pop-y" but not offensive. At $185 per person, we definitely feel like we had a worthwhile experience. We appreciate the months (or sometimes years) of preparation that went into our meal last night. My only critique is that usually at this price point, we typically have more elaborate service. Examples would be; letters from the chef, take home favors, optional cheese service. On food alone, this restaurant blows every other Ottawa restaurant out of the water. It's not close

    Our only real disappointment was that we were not provided with written descriptions of the very technical accounts of each dish that was provided verbally by the servers. That would have helped make the meal even more memorable.

    We did the 8 course tasting menu with the wine pairing. 5/8 courses were delicious, 2/8 were solidly okay (definitely not worth the money), and 1/8 was actually pretty gross (and I am not a picky eater - neither of us finished that course). The wine was all good. The staff were fantastic. Overall, the price reflects a restaurant that should have better food. $800 for two people means 8/8 dishes should be incredible which just wasn't the case.

    We had a very memorable dining experience, and the chef is truly talented. Her creativity is pure art, and her ability to blend so many diverse and unique ingredients together to create "Wow - this is amazing!" reactions is a true gift. Her fermented drink pairings are also very unique, and the only thing I wish she'd consider is making them alcoholic in the future (not sure if this is possible though without a license?). Regardless - her wine pairings are also unique and well chosen. All around - fantastic!

    Incredible experience at Alice - the food was extraordinary. We also had the wine pairing - for a special occasion would 100% recommend but it was pricey and the food would have been just as enjoyable without. The ambience is spot on - not so quiet that you feel uncomfortable but intimate and relaxing. Really enjoyable evening!

    If you take away the beautiful presentation, the 8 course tasting was rather boring. Similar flavours in each dish, with much too much smokiness that overpowered most dishes. Service was good, other than the fact that we were rushed out immediately after our tasting, as another table was coming in.

    Dinner was spectacular in every way. Beautifully presented, complex flavours, delicious and filling too!!! After tasting the intro beverage, husband opted for matching fermented drink pairings instead of the wine (he's usually very much a wine guy) and quite enjoyed it. I do wish the Menu that we were given at the end was more detailed. The description provided by the server had FAR more info than this menu list. We will likely return when the menu changes.

The only item to bring-up is the music level, when sitting at the chef's table, is a bit loud for our liking; but certain that sitting at the other tables in this lovely little restaurant, the music level is probably very acceptable.     Outstanding menu and fermented juice pairings as always. I've been on two other occasions and have never been disappointed. My food sensitivities were taken into consideration and I felt at ease to enjoy my meal. Possibly the best mushroom dish I've ever eaten.

    We had a not so pleasant experience at Alice for a birthday celebration. Please note that this review doesn’t focus on food because we couldn’t fully enjoy it, so it wouldn’t be fair to the food. Some background, my partner has Retinitis Pigmentosa, which makes her legally blind. She has night blindness among other symptoms, so we always bring a small table light to dimly lit restaurants to help her see. It’s always set to the lowest of six settings, pointed down at the table, in order to minimize disruptions to others. After being seated, we turned on the light so my partner could read the drinks menu. After the drinks were served, the server asked if we could turn off the light when the food arrives. My partner explained that she is legally blind, and the light helps her see, so the server went and discussed with the head chef. The server returned and asked if we could move to a different table by the edge, which we did. We asked if we could still use our light, and the server said yes, then asked if we could turn the light dimmer because “it’s just too bright”. So although we were permitted to use our table lamp, their attitude had already made us feel unwelcome. My partner felt bad for using the light and only used it to see the food when her poking around blindly with the utensils didn’t work out too well. It’s heart-wrenching to see her trying so hard to still enjoy her food and experience after being discriminated against because she felt guilty that this happened during my birthday dinner. Overall, the food was probably great, but we could not enjoy it. It felt like any deviation from the “standard” is heavily frowned upon. I also agree with other reviews in that the service was indeed lifeless, almost robotic. Perhaps the atmosphere is a reflection of the meticulousness of head chef, which I do respect. The details of her food was immaculate, for those that can see clearly anyways. Please look else where if you require any accommodations.

    Un pur délice! Le titre de meilleur chef au Canada est pleinement mérité. Quelle belle harmonie des saveurs et que dire d’une présentation recherchée et soignée. L’attention aux menus détails est omniprésente pour chaque service. Sa belle équipe est hyper professionnelle. Pour conclure le tout, la cheffe elle-même vient présenter et expliquer le dernier service. Can’t get better than that!! Kudos all around!

    Once again, Alice has completely exceeded our expectations. This was our 5th visit to Alice and we were blown away by the service and the creativity of the dishes. Chef Briana Kim is one of Canada’s best chefs and never fails to impress. If you are looking for a special night out, Alice is the place to go!

    Such very thoughtful dishes and you could really see the care placed into each dish. Her mushroom dish was my favorite as well as the soup. The sweet dessert in the shape of a forest seen was visually incredible. Very whimsical and creative. The ice cream was excellent and flavorful but the chocolate and other layers lacked flavour. Maybe because there was no extra sugar added? We had the juice and tea pairing and it was excellent. You could see the thoughtfulness and time it took to make these drinks. My friend was also impressed with the pottery and glassware used. Very unique. The servers were top notch and very professional and attentive to our needs. Overall, this was a wonderful evening of great food and drink in an unpretentious space. They were able to accommodate our request to be seated at 7pm.instead of 815pm. You should go!
