An enjoyable way to spend a day out. Lovely surroundings on a sunny day when the picnic tables outdoors looked inviting. Friendly and efficient service at a fairly busy time, but with a relaxed atmosphere. The menu was varied and interesting. Lovely flavours in the tarte tatin with red onion, pear, and feta cheese, though not sure that it needed to be 'deconstructed' intriguing though that was! A good glass of Argentinian Malbec was a great accompaniment. And the apple and bramble crumble was indeed delicious. A one-off local event on the day made for a busy lunchtime slot with the result there was some queuing for the toilet facilities. Altogether it was a good experience I would be happy to repeat.

We go at least once a month to the Allanton Inn. It has great food (all sourced locally),good selection of ales and wine all served by a friendly team

Off the beaten track, the pub is certainly aiming and hitting the gastropub market in terms of quality of food and service. However, a distinct dissonance in the look and feel of the property. It is perhaps in hand and a more fitting backdrop for the food may be coming - this will not be soon enough. In addition, we ate on a quiet, out-of-season, Monday. The silence of a dining room with just three couples was far from calming! We felt we were eavesdropping and vice versa. A great food experience, nonetheless

Nice setting and friendly staff. Having eaten here on many occasions, felt the food was not as good as on previous occasions. The sirloin steak was pretty chewy in parts and all agreed that the chips were too small, hard and had several black parts visible. Everywhere has an ‘off night’ now and again, hopefully this was a one off and we were unlucky on this occasion.

We arrived early so had a drink in the garden and enjoyed the lovely view across fields. The guy behind the bar was very helpful and personable and the food was outstanding . Good choice , well cooked and prompt service.

What a great place. Main food menu was great with plenty of choice and using local produce as well. We had a look at the outside area as well which looks fantastic. Pizzas looked amazing so we'll definitely be back to try that menu.

Fabulous service from the moment we walked through the door. Born Brewery Blonde was the beer on tap and hit the mark perfectly. We shared a Fisherman's Platter between three and had the fish and chips, burger and sea bass, all were delicious. Would highly recommend for food as well as just a drink.

The menu is varied, and with excellent quantity food, almost all locally sourced. The dishes are expertly cooked and attractively presented. I would particularly recommend my choice from yesterday: Starter of : Beetroot-cured Scottish salmon with garden chive yoghurt dressing and salad; Main course: Braises spiced Scottish lamb stew with chickpeas, to,atones, butternut squash and apricots, served with couscous, aubergine fritters and Tahini dressing.

Excellent food. We had 2 lunch courses -main and sweet. Couldn’t have a starter as well as I was full up. Portions could be slightly smaller. It is okay if you have a big appetite but smaller amounts could be offered as well.
