Our reservations were taken by OpennTable but when we arrived at the restaurant was closed. The man at the hotel lobby didn’t give us a good reason why it was closed on a Saturday night or why our reservation was taken. My wife and I were all dressed up for a night out but with nowhere else to go because every other restaurant was booked and we had no reservations except for Allegory. Majorly disappointed both in the restaurant and in Open table for wasting our Saturday night.
Made it on time for my reservation on Sunday 11/7/21 at 1:00pm for brunch as stated on the website and on Open Table and when me and my friend got there were weren’t greeted for a good 5 minutes but was stared at by an employee at the bar that whole time and never said anything to us…until we were greeted by two confused staff members from the back when I asked to be seated and they asked me “what I was here for ?” and i said “I have a reservation for brunch” and then they turned to the guy at the bar who previously ignored us and he claimed that “brunch ended at 12:30 and it’s buffet style” which makes no sense because i’ve came there a few times and brunch was never like that but anyways. Then I said that I was able to make a reservation for 1pm and then he says “brunch is from 8:30 to 10:30, i’m sorry we need to update our site because you were the third person to come in here and we had to turn away” but didn’t he say that brunch ended at 12:30?? clearly there is some miscommunication among the staff. I was very disappointed with my experience.
If you are thinking about doing brunch there, I would make sure to call ahead before actually making a reservation and wasting your time!
The one waiter had his hands full, and yet it wasn't crowded. Had to ask for stuff several times. Never got a coffee refill.
We were not impress with the overall visit to Allegory. We had reservations but the "dining" area was very crowded and loud. The young lady at the desk asked us if we would like to go to the roof top and we said yes. After being seated the manager came over to us with menus and said what ever we wanted all we had to do was go up to the bar and order it and our drinks. He did say if we wanted service we could go on the Roof Top and we did. After getting my wife's drink wrong and insisting she got what she ordered we finished and left. And don't get me started on the garage.
Horrible experience, didn’t even get to have our meal. the front desk told us they don’t accept reservations and they don’t have outdoor dining - when we told them we had a confirmed reservation they said they don’t care and they don’t do that. horrible.
Online they had full brunch menu including drinks. Once we got there, the brunch was a buffet style and we were told the a la carte menu was gone. And that they don’t serve alcohol until noon on saturdays but that they close at noon. So why offer it as a brunch option?? Disappointing.
Burgers were raw. Sent them back and got beyond well done. Different chef and food quality has gone down hill.
Loud dance music.
Good for city view and drinks only.
Menu was sparse and food was just ok very disappointing
Our morning was wasted trying to eat at Allegory. My husband and I made a reservation for 11am. We showed up at 10:30 and were told that because of a wedding party, we’d have to come back at 11. Ok, no problem. We come in 11 and are seated. 10 minutes later our waitress comes out to take our order. A few minutes later, she comes back out and says “The manager wanted me to let you know that the wedding party is still working on their food. The wait for your food will be about 45 minutes.”. Disgusted, we decided to leave. Our time had been wasted. My question is, since the wedding party was already seated at 10:30, why wouldn’t you tell us at 10:30 that there will be a wait on food? Why wouldn’t the manager themselves come talk to us? That is a move of a coward! My husband and I are no strangers to fine dining. I’m not sure what kind of manager hides from their responsibilities.
Server was friendly. Food was overpriced and overrated. $27 for cheese and grapes. Vodka drink was weak.
I will never return to this restaurant. A party of 10 for brunch is not a big deal. We sat at a table for 20 minutes without a server. When the server finally came he had a horrible attitude. We waited another 15 minutes for the coffee, tea, and juice to come and placed our order. After an hour and a half we asked for a manager and were told there was not one there. Magically after another 10 minutes a manager appeared. He laughed in our faces so we decided to get up and leave without eating as our food never came out. Completely unacceptable customer service
just don't wast your money. have a drink on the roof then go to a better restaurant on Bloomfield Ave.
Excellent food and drink and service! Just don’t understand why the music has to be so loud - making it difficult to hear each other speaking.
The gentleman that served us was very nice, but took a long time for service and food delivery. Good had good flavor, but menu is limited and food was cold. Not worth ordering dessert. Probably a great place for drinks at the bar.
This was my third time coming to Allegory and probably the worst experience of the three times. To keep it short, my girlfriend and I ordered the burger (well done) and it took about 45 minutes to come out. When we cut into our burger it was cooked to about medium temp so we had to wait another 15 minutes for new plates with burgers at the correct temp.
The lack of service and noise was overwhelming. The music was so loud we couldn’t talk- even outside . The table was dirty - so we were moved inside. Still super loud. No one came to wait on us- so we left— very disappointed. The hotel looks beautiful. I’ve been to the bar on the roof before and it was lovely .
We didn’t get to try anything- so the review is only based on the service- cleanliness and intense, loud music.
Eggs were out of this world.
Took awhile to place my order but the food was amazing!
It was not clear that the Rooftop opened at 2. That’s where I thought that I was booked. That info needs to be clear. The service was extremely slow although it didn’t see to be that busy.
This is our second time here since the new chef. The first time was excellent, but we were very disappointed this time around. First, we booked an outdoor table but then were told when we arrived that they only had indoor tables available. No apologies. The house music inside made conversation challenging (and it was early, no one was at the bar). We were also told only after we sat that the menu was abbreviated. Only 3 entree choices. I got a burger with fries and the fries, while hot and crispy, tasted like melted plastic. Not an exaggeration. After a very quick dinner we left and sadly we likely won’t be back.
Terrible food service over priced awful
Made aware of an extremely reduced menu 5 minutes before our reservation. Food was bland, to say the least. Service was really bad.
The service was fine but the food was awful. The deviled eggs tasted like vinegar - very briny. The risotto was basically a bowl of white rice topped with mushrooms. Absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Go here for drinks on the rooftop but eat somewhere else.
Slow Service. Bartender was rude when I requested paper menu for my 2 guest that were in there 80's. They could not read off the phone for the menu. Overpriced for the service we got.
We went here for predinner drinks with friends, but I would absolutely come back for dinner! The drinks were very well made, and the house cocktails were creative and delicious!
We came here when it first opened a couple of years ago and said we’d never return. But we heard that they brought in a new chef so gave it a try. And we are so glad we did. I’d love to recommend our favorite dish, but everything was delicious. But if I had to pick…Start with the Meyer Lemon salad and then have the Salmon. As a cocktail, go with the Poloma. Or order anything else and you’ll be just as happy.
This was our first time here. The hostess ignored us and we did not get seated for 8pm rsvp until 8:45pm. Our waiter was great, but we received our main dishes and were almost done with them and our appetizer came after.
Excellent experience at Allegory. The brunch was delish.
Brunch was delicious. Service was great. They split plated two entrees for us to share. The spicy chicken salad and the egg and pork belly sandwich. Highly recommend. The ambiance is a little cold and lacking energy or warmth.
We had seen the middling reviews, but figured it's a fancy new restaurant in town, so we should check it out ... and it was middling. The room has the boutique hotel ambience, as best as they can at limited capacity. The food is pretty good, not great, not awful -- but not memorable at all. (And they ran out of brussels sprouts. How do you run out of brussels sprouts?) Great service could have made the difference, but ... servers were cheerful but not attentive. They should be able to start a conversation about the menu. They should anticipate needs. But in both Allegory and later upstairs at Alto, they just took orders. I should add -- the supervisors in sport coats were exactly the kind of on-point and always-on experts you'd expect in a top restaurant. I wish the rest of the staff could follow their lead.
Great job to the chefs. Flavorful and well presented.
Great location, nice decor but terrible food menu options with limited drinks.
Service was good but I wouldn’t hurry back!
So much potential but fell very flat. Get someone in there to whip the ambience into shape. Train your servers better, they’re not elevated enough. Could be so good.
Nothing wrong with the visit. Food was overpriced and average.
They never answer the phone so when we wanted to change our reservation from 4 to 7 people, we couldn’t do that and open table doesn’t allow more than 4 for this restaurant. We had to make 2 separate reservations and ask them to combine the tables when we got there. It was obvious that they could but the waiter had to check with his manager. The service was very slow. The bread tasted Smokey which none of us liked. My son’s Mac and cheese was severely undercooked, not al dente. The Bites menu which is on open table was not available either.
The wait staff is very poorly managed - not attentive, took 1 hour to get our food, the venue is extremely noisy - also they don't wipe the table down with disinfectant after use
In COVID TIME: Ambiance was lacking but only because all the furniture was moved out for social distancing. Food was EXCELLENT. Service (mostly hosting) was haphazard because the poor people had to mind the upstairs bar and be away from the host stand which was not efficient. A bit hard to get the waiters' attention but we assumed they are on a skeleton staff since they are unable to be open at full capacity. We still had a nice experience. THE FOOD was worth the other nuisances.
Amazing experience! From the moment we walked in top notch service!
Valentine’s Day menu was HORRIBLE. Very strange food and left still hungry
I had a lunch date here for Valentine’s Day and it was perfect. We were seated immediately and greeted by our waitress soon as we sat. All employees were accommodating and adhered to the COVID-19 protocols. The food, and it’s presentation, was good (side note: they give you a lot of fries!) as well.
