Get here before the sun sets for an amazing view from any table. While the wine pairings were perfect, the chef's menu left a little to be desired - there is only so much pickled cauliflower one can eat! But I've been here before and had incredible meals. This may have just been an off night. A wonderfully romantic spot for a drink, brunch or a special dinner.
Place was stunning! You can’t beat that incredible view. The food was delish and the space was clean and enjoyable.
Thanksgiving dinner was delicious. Ron made our evening enjoyable with his fantastic service. The view is spectacular. All around...great time shared with some of our family members.
Amazing views, coupled with a spectacular menu made this a great overall dining experience.
Amazing service, food, views. The complete package!
We have often been to the Summit and wanted to try the new Alpina. Same wonderful location, very good service, but we were disappointed in food. The mushroom bisque was pricey but excellent. Caesar salad was very ordinary and ridiculously priced at $21. Cheese plate was also not very exciting and was served with butter and cheese pieces that were hard and cold right out of the fridge. Bread was stale. OK perhaps at half the price but not what you expect from a "Michelin" chef. You wouldn't get a lovely soft-ripened brie served that way in France.
The view itself is worth going for. The view is absolutely amazing, stunning. On top of that was wonderful food. I had the 3 course chef lunch which included the best risotto I ever had. I look forward to going there again.
The view and ambiance are amazing!!! The service is excellent.
"Three-Course Lunch Prix Fixe" with wine pairings $49. Food quite good but the pairings did not match at all. Wines not interesting or appropriate. Wine pairing option is not recommended. Choose your own wine(s).
The dinner menu is much more interesting.
Best dining experience on South Vancouver Island. Highly recommendex
We have been several times and spent special occasions there overnight! Today we brought friends from Manitoba and they were in awe at view! The fog broke and sun cleared way down Finlayson arm! We had great corner table and two eggs benny and two Alpina breakfasts! Eggs cooked perfectly toast quite hard so asked for another and brought out quickly! Coffee excellent service attentive! Seniors rate always appreciated!
Although the new Reno is nice, I liked it better before 😀
Decent food, great views! Staff are pretty attentive but food a bit pricey. A bit of a drive from City and back.
Great view, great food. A perfect spot to enjoy a special celebration.
Fantastic spot, we have made this our family brunch restaurant for the past couple of years. The renovations look great and the addition of the west coast art is lovely.
Starters....scallops excellent, iceberg wedge just ok . Main seafood lasagna 👍, tenderloin very good served with innovative cappuccino potatoe served in coffee cup. Desert was a fun interactive tasty S’mors for two....a must try if you like something different.
Great View!!! Excellent food and the service provided was top notch.
This is a fantastic restaurant to go to for brunch or breakfast. The staff are accommodating, friendly and helpful. The food was very tasty and the view is absolutely amazing.
Unfortunately it was overcast the day we had brunch there. So the distant views of the Atlas mountains with secured by low hanging clouds.
The food was very very good. I had the Tuscan poached eggs and my wife had the eggs Benedict with wild mushrooms.
Our server, a woman who has lived in the area her whole life, was very helpful in giving us suggestions of places to go to for a hike and generally describing the area to us.
Outstanding value for the ambience and quality and portion size and service.
Would have been excellent if it wasn’t raining and all fogged in. No view that evening, and that’s a big part of the dining experience
This has been a Jekyll and Hyde experience. Tonight the bartenders were competent and very cordial. Our table was wonderful and server friendly and attentive. The food was decent thought rather flavorless. Total different experience from last night.
It felt like the Twilight Zone. Bartender had robsbly never made a drink. We got NO service. Kept asking if we wanted free champagne while we waited. We had had enough to drink. We were put at a table far away from everyone. Setting is gorgeous though.
We celebrated our one year anniversary here and the team at Alpina went out of their way to make it special by serving us a free glass of sparkling wine and taking a photo for us outside with the lovely view. They were very friendly and the food was very good. The only thing was that the service was a bit slow to the point that we decided to skip dessert and they seemed a bit confused with my dietary restrictions as they tried to serve me fish and gluten which i stated as my allergies several times. They said they’d bring out gf bread but they never really followed up with that or have a non fish option on the amuse bouche. They just took it away and that was that..
Always consistently good.
We enjoyed the overall experience immensely and have recommended to our daughter to celebrate her first anniversary there.
We celebrated my wife’s birthday. The food was superb, the view extraordinary, the service attentive and caring.
My husband and I were fortunate to have had the pleasure of spending two nights celebrating our 30th Anniversary at the Villa Eyrie enjoying every aspect of the experience. The Alpine Restaurant was a big hit.
The obviously highly trained and experienced staff went out of their way (Thank you K.K.) to make our two expertly prepared evening meals (thank you to your fabulous Chef) especially delightful with extra touches that truly touched our hearts. Thank you to all of the Eyrie Staff for their friendly professionalism. It was an experience we will remember forever. We are spreading the word!
Probably the best food I have eaten - particularly the dinners - for a very long time. Superb chef.
Great relaxing comfortable setting, with excellent high end food and service.
My wife and I, along with her sister and her husband, went to Villa Eyrie on August 24th to celebrate her 60th birthday. We also went there last year to celebrate my wife’s 59th birthday, and had a great experience, including recognition of her birthday with a special dessert. This year, I mentioned several times that we were at the restaurant to celebrate a birthday. I mentioned it in the online booking. I also informed Host Wayne when we were being seated. And I also informed our waiter Ron when he was nice enough to take our photo on the patio. Unfortunately, at the end of our visit, no recognition of my wife’s birthday was given and we left disappointed. Especially after spending over $250 for the meals. We may now have to reconsider coming to the Alpina restaurant at Villa Eyrie for future celebrations.
Great view, ambiance and most of all the food was great. Waiters very accommodating.
Beautiful views and very friendly and attentive staff. I came there solo just to try it out and would love to come back some time with a friend. The food was great, much larger portions than I had anticipated.
This is a must do restaurant where you will be treated like royalty and tempted with a menu that doesn’t fail to deliver!
Our meals were inspired using the freshest ingredients with unexpected twists of creativity . From the moment of arrival you know you are in for a special evening!
The slow cooked short ribs were a little dry but the seafood lasagne was great. Excellent service and the view is hard to beat
While the food was consistently good, but nothing was exceptional. There were plenty of gluten free options that the kitchen handled effectively.
We had the tasting menu and the wine pairings were excellent and wines we did not know.
Hostess was great.
Service was fine although it felt like they were down a server. Plenty of bar help and bus staff but the timing of food with wine was irregular and spotty.
Good value, especially if paying in US dollars.
I planned a surprise dinner date with my wife for our 1 year anniversary. From the moment I made my reservation to paying the bill the service was outstanding! I requested to have a table with a great view and Alpina didn't disappoint. We got complimentary wine for our anniversary and the food was phenomenal. The chef was able to accommodate my wife lactose allergy which speaks a lot in how they take care of their guests. All in all a wonderful evening spent with my wife and we will definitely go back for a weekend retreat.
Thank you to Alpina Restaurant and their staff.
Excellent place to dine and enjoy a spectacular setting.
Two good things - the food was great and the views are incredible.
But the food doesn't make up for everything that wasn't great about this experience. We noted in our reservation that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and asked for a table with a nice view. (at no time was there any acknowledgement of our anniversary, even though I saw it noted on the reservation sheet.)
Instead we were seated in a table next to an empty table with a great view, so at least we could imagine how nice it would be to have the good view. No one was seated at this table for the duration of our visit...and the restaurant was only about 1/3 full.
Secondly, the service was very poor. The server seemed like a very nice person, but forgot to tell us about the specials, didn't bring out any (or therefore explain any courses) of our meal, and we saw her cough right into her hands on the restaurant floor. (gross.)
The worst though was the cocktail service, which set a very bad tone for our meal. We ordered cocktails very soon after sitting down ($17 cocktails! which is fine is they are good.) About 10 minutes layer we ordered our entrees. Still no cocktails. A server (not ours of course) brings out bread. Still no cocktails. Then, our entrees arrive! And still? No cocktails. We had to ask for them again, and they arrived about 2 minutes later. The server said the bar was busy, but there is no excuse for a 20-30 minute wait for a cocktail. And to get them after the entree arrived? Completely unacceptable. We were planning to pair wine with our meal but didn't get the chance. (I was hoping the cocktails would be comped at least, to make up for the insanely long wait, but no.)
Finally...there were giant flies everywhere. So many flies.
This is a place trying to be a nice restaurant, but the back of house is being let down by the front of house. If I'm going out for my anniversary and spending $$$, I expect better. Way better.
We chose this restaurant because it was our anniversary and we’d stayed at the Eyrie many years before. Views were as outstanding as ever. Food and service was exceptional. The only negative I had was that we were charged for a beverage we hadn’t asked for and that we were told was “complimentary.” We didn’t want to be petty, so we paid the bill anyway, but it was a detail that shouldn’t have been overlooked. I would highly recommend this restaurant anyway.
we stayed 2 nights at the resort and we were quite excited to try the restaurant, as we had seen many good reviews and the menu posted online looked delicious. Unfortunately, the restaurant was very disappointing. The menu was changed from the version that is posted online, with many of the dishes we had wanted to try being changed to other, less appealing dishes. The tuna crudo that we decided to share as an appetizer was tasty but tiny, thus we each got approximately 2 bites of it. The short rib was fork tender but the barbecue sauce was too sweet and the plate was covered, and not attractively arranged, with edamame. The broccolini served with the short rib was tasty. The “special” was a pasta dish with short rib, spinach and cheese that the server pronounced as “porkerino” - my friend said was quite tasty. The bite that I tried tasted like potatoes. Our second dinner was a bit more successful, but (yes, but!) we ordered a dish of scallops that were served to us at a mediocre-warm temperature. They were served with a tasty, warmer orange-ginger sauce and the large-sized scallops were seared but definitely not hot enough. The tenderloin steak was delicious and cooked as requested. My friend had the short rib this time, requesting the barbecue sauce “on the side”. She enjoyed hers. We ordered after dinner lattes that were very poorly made, mostly milk. We decided to just not have coffee and returned to our room with our wine, which was discounted for “Winesday”! Our booking included breakfast in the restaurant, which was very good both times. The service both for dinner and breakfast was not great, very slow and somewhat uninformed. We'll pass on this restaurant for any next times ...
This is an exceptional location and you are left with an amazing experience.
