Alpina Restaurant at Villa Eyrie Resort
This is a must do restaurant where you will be treated like royalty and tempted with a menu that doesn’t fail to deliver!
Our meals were inspired using the freshest ingredients with unexpected twists of creativity . From the moment of arrival you know you are in for a special evening!
The slow cooked short ribs were a little dry but the seafood lasagne was great. Excellent service and the view is hard to beat
While the food was consistently good, but nothing was exceptional. There were plenty of gluten free options that the kitchen handled effectively.
We had the tasting menu and the wine pairings were excellent and wines we did not know.
Hostess was great.
Service was fine although it felt like they were down a server. Plenty of bar help and bus staff but the timing of food with wine was irregular and spotty.
Good value, especially if paying in US dollars.
I planned a surprise dinner date with my wife for our 1 year anniversary. From the moment I made my reservation to paying the bill the service was outstanding! I requested to have a table with a great view and Alpina didn't disappoint. We got complimentary wine for our anniversary and the food was phenomenal. The chef was able to accommodate my wife lactose allergy which speaks a lot in how they take care of their guests. All in all a wonderful evening spent with my wife and we will definitely go back for a weekend retreat.
Thank you to Alpina Restaurant and their staff.
Excellent place to dine and enjoy a spectacular setting.
Two good things - the food was great and the views are incredible.
But the food doesn't make up for everything that wasn't great about this experience. We noted in our reservation that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and asked for a table with a nice view. (at no time was there any acknowledgement of our anniversary, even though I saw it noted on the reservation sheet.)
Instead we were seated in a table next to an empty table with a great view, so at least we could imagine how nice it would be to have the good view. No one was seated at this table for the duration of our visit...and the restaurant was only about 1/3 full.
Secondly, the service was very poor. The server seemed like a very nice person, but forgot to tell us about the specials, didn't bring out any (or therefore explain any courses) of our meal, and we saw her cough right into her hands on the restaurant floor. (gross.)
The worst though was the cocktail service, which set a very bad tone for our meal. We ordered cocktails very soon after sitting down ($17 cocktails! which is fine is they are good.) About 10 minutes layer we ordered our entrees. Still no cocktails. A server (not ours of course) brings out bread. Still no cocktails. Then, our entrees arrive! And still? No cocktails. We had to ask for them again, and they arrived about 2 minutes later. The server said the bar was busy, but there is no excuse for a 20-30 minute wait for a cocktail. And to get them after the entree arrived? Completely unacceptable. We were planning to pair wine with our meal but didn't get the chance. (I was hoping the cocktails would be comped at least, to make up for the insanely long wait, but no.)
Finally...there were giant flies everywhere. So many flies.
This is a place trying to be a nice restaurant, but the back of house is being let down by the front of house. If I'm going out for my anniversary and spending $$$, I expect better. Way better.
We chose this restaurant because it was our anniversary and we’d stayed at the Eyrie many years before. Views were as outstanding as ever. Food and service was exceptional. The only negative I had was that we were charged for a beverage we hadn’t asked for and that we were told was “complimentary.” We didn’t want to be petty, so we paid the bill anyway, but it was a detail that shouldn’t have been overlooked. I would highly recommend this restaurant anyway.
we stayed 2 nights at the resort and we were quite excited to try the restaurant, as we had seen many good reviews and the menu posted online looked delicious. Unfortunately, the restaurant was very disappointing. The menu was changed from the version that is posted online, with many of the dishes we had wanted to try being changed to other, less appealing dishes. The tuna crudo that we decided to share as an appetizer was tasty but tiny, thus we each got approximately 2 bites of it. The short rib was fork tender but the barbecue sauce was too sweet and the plate was covered, and not attractively arranged, with edamame. The broccolini served with the short rib was tasty. The “special” was a pasta dish with short rib, spinach and cheese that the server pronounced as “porkerino” - my friend said was quite tasty. The bite that I tried tasted like potatoes. Our second dinner was a bit more successful, but (yes, but!) we ordered a dish of scallops that were served to us at a mediocre-warm temperature. They were served with a tasty, warmer orange-ginger sauce and the large-sized scallops were seared but definitely not hot enough. The tenderloin steak was delicious and cooked as requested. My friend had the short rib this time, requesting the barbecue sauce “on the side”. She enjoyed hers. We ordered after dinner lattes that were very poorly made, mostly milk. We decided to just not have coffee and returned to our room with our wine, which was discounted for “Winesday”! Our booking included breakfast in the restaurant, which was very good both times. The service both for dinner and breakfast was not great, very slow and somewhat uninformed. We'll pass on this restaurant for any next times ...
This is an exceptional location and you are left with an amazing experience.
Gorgeous views. Great food. Definitely a place to visit
Great service. Creative food presentation and quite delicious. Very impressed.
The most beautiful view ever! Expensive dinner but worth every dollar. Seafood lasagna and basil strawberry drink was delicious. Madison was fantastic!
Really really enjoyed our experience. Wayne our server was fantastic!! Thanks for the great anniversary we shared with you!!
This was probably one of THE best culinary experiences we have had anywhere .. we were in the travel industry many years and have travelled the world. For the most part we find often we are disappointed with many fine dining establishments as we both love to cook and find we prefer to cook at home for the most part with ‘farm to table ingredients’ .. particularly seafood which we have an abundance of here on Vancouver Island. Not so at the Alpina . not only are the views breathtaking, the staff were most welcoming, knowledgeable and friendly . Our waitress , April, particularly made our dining experience that much more special with her recommendations and extra attention to our preferences. Our menu choices and accompaniments were amazing ..we had the starters - beef carpaccio and roasted bone marrow (like no other) .. mains seafood lasagna and rack of lamb ..the lamb particularly was unique and beautifully presented. We could not resist the S’mores homemade marshmallow ‘roast’ on an open flame with melted chocolate for a most decadent dessert .. have never had anything even close to that anywhere. We are so happy we chose to spend the night at the Villa Eyrie Resort as well.. beautiful location .. highly recommend this experience .. even if you live , like us, here on the island , you will not be disappointed . We did not want to leave and cannot wait to return for lunch another day soon .
Excellent! The size of the dishes were not what we expected based on the price.
The quality and the taste were great but not enough.
Our waitress was delightful. The Risotto was disappointing with 2 avg. size and quality prawns, and 2 clams. The saffron flavour was a bit too strong. The Caesar salad was overpriced and the flat iron steak was tough. The coffee was not good quality. The view was spectacular and the room was very pleasant. I think the restaurant should have provided complimentary bread rolls.
Best food and value in the area...views amazing...we love it...and look forward to going again...
Wonderful views Outstanding food!
Michael behind the bar and the rest of the staff took great care of me.
Wonderful ambience, sitting on the patio overlooking Finlayson Arm, with divine food, for the price equal to a meal in town!!! It's a fifteen minute drive from our home, close to Wilkinson and Interurban - the same commute to downtown for us, and definitely worth the short trip!
Truly one of a kind experience, the food was amazing and the atmosphere and staff in the restaurant were so positive. Our waiter was exceptional and filled us in on the scenic aspects as well as all the dishes, he also offered to take pictures of us with the view in the background. Would definitely recommend anyone to stay here and I hope to come back soon.
Delicious and creative food. Very attentive staff and quiet ambiance. The view is spectacular!
Great food, service, ambience, and views . A world class gem 30 minutes from Victoria.
Creative preparation that tasted even better than it looked.
The tasting menu was a delight for a celebratory lunch.
A totally enjoyable experience.
Perfect in every way! We'll be back again soon. Food, service, and atmosphere are wonderful.
Outstanding views and meal. Will be going again. Highly recommended.
Gorgeous restaurant offering gorgeous views to go with your beautiful and delicious prepared meal. Just go!
We were there overnight and attended a Wine Dinner. Food incredible and excellent service. The view is stunningly beautiful.
The food was perfect, and our server, Wayne, took excellent care of us from the moment we sat down. Impeccable.
Our server (Wayne, I believe??) was magnificent - made us feel welcome, comfortable, and shared good conversation. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, as were the cocktails. We’ll be back!
World class location amd ambience.Good selection on buffet table..dessert table really good. Servers were pleasant however perhaps some additional training required..eg..bill was presented half way through our meal..server should wait until we ask for bill..
Professional, knowledgeable and courteous staff; excellent service. Delicious white wine from Oliver, BC. Meal was beautifully presented and divine. Beautiful views on summer solstice!
Wonderful experience. The food was delicious and service top notch. The real show stopper though is the incredible view. From the beautiful landscape of the Eyrie, the Saanich Inlet to the Olympic Mountains, it doesn’t get much better! An amazing little paradise hidden away at the top of the Malahat! You will be blown away!
A perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary - incredible view, wonderful food and the service was fantastic.
Fantastic meal for lunch of a Pasta Vongole dish and a Cobb Salad (the best chicken I have ever tasted!), on the balcony overlooking the unbelievable view - for the same price as a meal in Victoria, but with the amazing view included!
As always great food, view and atmosphere! It’s one of our go to breakfast places!
I brought 3 other couples there in January (during the World Jr. Hockey in Victoria) and it was so awesome from every aspect (food, ambiance, service) that I had to bring another couple who are friends that I wanted to have a similar experience. The January visit was over the top, mainly thanks to Wayne who looked after the 8 of us. It was everything Jewel looked after us on this visit and she did a nice job. It was also great to catch up with Wayne who was looking after a large group of graduates that night, but he remembered us and made us most welcome. The food, view, service are world class. If you haven't been here recently, you must try it, especially if you want a special night out and want to feel you are in a European country with a view to die for.
We took friends to Alpina at Villa Eyrie to thank them for some special services. We had the lunch special with 3 courses and wine pairings and we found each course delicious and beautifully presented. Our friends who are from Calgary were absolutely blown away by the food, ambience and service. We lingered and took many pictures! Perfect day!
The food, view, and service were all equally incredible. Thanks for making our anniversary so memorable!
Had a wonderful, slow meal at the Alpina Restaurant. Breathtaking views. Friendly service. Great food. Recommending this place to all our friends and family!
