I don't think they read the notes we leave as to if it's a special occasion. When I thought about it, we had been blinded by the food and the service and I forgot to ask! We were celebrating my adult son's birthday, but he was not having dessert anyway! still fantastic!

I was incredibly excited to try Ambar while visiting my hometown of El Paso. I will certainly return but should mention there are a few things that still need to be worked through. There was no host to greet us for several minutes when we arrived…to the point there was a line of people waiting to check in for their reservation. Once seated, the restaurant is beautiful. The food is delicious however, our order was missed by the kitchen so we waited a considerable amount of time after the appetizers. Our server, Jaime, was attentive and apologetic. While there was a manager present on the dining room floor, he never once checked in on our table. Overall…food scored an 8. Service scored a 5.

Went there for Thanksgiving Dinner buffet (served on the 2nd floor). The food was outstanding, including some dishes that are unique to Ambar (such as the Huevos Benedictos). Hopefully I'll be there next year for Thanksgiving Dinner!

The food was excellent. The service by Ben was superb. The only con I would say was that we were sitting next to the speakers and the singer sung the whole time so it was really hard to have a conversation with my family. The singer did have a beautiful voice, however, it was just a bit too loud for us to talk and hear each other.

Our server was very young and a poor communicator and was a bit overwhelmed I think. Cocktails and wine remained empty for the majority of our dining experience. She was very kind and trying her best so we all just let it happen and went with it. I think our experience would have been much different over all had we had one of the veteran staff as our server.

During our inaugural visit to this establishment, we encountered a disarray in service. Despite having reservations and being the sole patrons in line, our seating process lacked organization. The Arrachera steak, our chosen dish, arrived cold, and the accompanying two Sprite beverages were disappointingly flat. Despite bringing the issue to the attention of our waitress, the replacement drinks mirrored the previous lack of effervescence. Regrettably, the water provided exhibited a discernible resemblance to untreated tap water. The utilization of a $30 credit voucher further contributed to a somewhat perplexing experience. The separation of the check into two transactions, with the credit deferred until checkout, added an element of confusion to the overall dining encounter. In the company of my parents and daughter, the concluding segments of our visit were marked by a sense of discomfort. For a more gratifying culinary experience, I would recommend opting for Cafe Central instead.

Our initial impression wasn’t the best. The hostess would not seat us at one of the two available booths. After talking with a manger there didn’t seem to be a problem doing that. Our server was great. She was polite and had great energy. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and answered all our questions. While it took almost 20 minutes to get our drinks they were delicious! Highly recommend the smoked tequila old fashion. It had the perfect balance of flavor with the smoke and spice from the ancho reyes liquor. The spicy margarita was tasty as well. The carnitas were delicious. My favorite item we ordered. The flavor was great and the meat was so tender. The torta ahogada wasn’t what I imagined it would be but very tasty. Then we had the Mexican opera torte for dessert. It was dry and didn’t have a lot of flavor. I would try something else.

We were eating before going to a play so we wanted somthing light and had the torilla soup which was good but thicker than we are used to ( but that is not bad) The appetizer of artichoke hearts were more than plenty and we probably only ate a 1/3. A little bit salty but an excellent value. Shrimp taco good but either needed pickled onions or a sauce as it was a little dry. Waitress was fantastic. Seating across the kitchen is best for atmosphere or around the bar.

Everything was delicious, unfortunately my steak was overcooked and it took like 50 mins to get to the table, that’s why I didn’t return it, I wasn’t going to wait another 50 mins to have it replaced. A little bit expensive but it’s worth.
